  • In the final instalment of Lucy's trip to Austria we dive into the pool and take a look at how Lucy has been able to begin introducing cardio work into her training - namely swimming, aquajogging & low impact plyo work!
    Lucy goes into some detail about how this has felt after taking a long break to heal her stress fracture, and the measures that are being taken to make sure this does not impact upon her healing whilst looking ahead to taking work out of the water in the future.
    Stay tuned for future updates in Lucy's recovery journey!

    I’m gonna get so much shit for this question but .. Lucy , what is ur weight today compared to Worlds in Utah? I went back and watch worlds and u have definitely put on serious muscle. Ur body today looks more like ur going for a podium at the Games in swimming. It’s seriously impressive. Is this the plan.. put muscle on while recovering then when ur given the green light .. go back to more cardio less weight training?

      @jimjamthebananaman1 2 года назад

      It’s probably because all she’s been able to do is lift weights since she’s been injured. She’ll probably drop the muscle mass once her normal training commences

      Hi Christian,
      You know you should never ask a lady her weight!
      But to answer your question, yes I have inevitably put on some weight from inactivity. I was and still am encouraged to eat well to fuel the recovery and healing process. Some of that is fat mass but also I have put on some muscle mass as the majority of my training has been upper body weight training and some lower body stability exercises.
      I was ~58kg in Utah when I won the world championships and I am ~ 63kg today.

      @@LucyCharlesBarclay u don’t have an ounce of fat on you. It’s all muscle. It’s seriously impressive. I only wish I could have done this when I was competing ‘back in the dark ages”.

Also loved the footage of your sports medicine team working with you, a dream job for many to be at such a high-profile institution! I wonder if any of your sports medicine team have been trained in Kinetic Control (Comera Movement Science), who are British! They've trained many top physios and sports therapists working in elite athletics. Best of luck with the rest of your recovery and looking forward to seeing you on the podium again!

    I have found these "injury" videos tremendously interesting. Now I am currently injured myself and can't run (and at my age injuries take for ever to heal!) I am finding them seriously inspiring. Trying to find ways of maintaining fitness while the injury (to the soleus muscle) heals, not sure whether aqua jogging would be looked on favourably at my local pool!
    Best wishes for your future rehab/climb back to fitness.

    Hi Lucy, will you be progressing to aqua-jogging without the belt, hip-permitting? I noticed the belt pulls your torso slightly back and upwards and knocks out the natural vertical body alignment. I’ve done quite a lot of aqua-jogging over the years when sidelined with injury and thought I ‘couldn’t run’ ;-) and found that once I had got used to it, that even though more demanding, I preferred it without the belt and found that I was much more reliant on my core which seemed to promote a more natural running form; hope that offers some further insight.

    • @LucyCharlesBarclay
