Very useful! I had not thought of using QGroundControl for firmware updating until I saw this video. Today, and not for the first time, I was having a major fist-fight trying to get Mission Planner to upload a pixhawk to the latest Arduplane version (4.0.5). I was getting the all-too-familiar errors - "board not recognised", "scanning ports" that never returns, etc, etc. Anyway, QGroundControl installed on my PC perfectly and updated the firmware with zero trouble. Many thanks for the pointer.
Thank you for this video. Starting with the steps in your video as my foundation, I have been able to progress all the way to having my Pixhawk 4 and Raspberry pi 4 companion computer (updated to the latest 5.10 Raspbian kernel 5.10) connect over 5G to Ardupilot via the Mavproxy/Mavlink communications link. I could not have started this project without the knowledge I initially gained from your video. I couldn't have done it without your video.
The Pixhawk is definitely where I'm headed for a larger build that will sport a camera rig (S500 or other larger affordable frame size). Thanks for another great video Lee!
hello friend, beautiful work, hard to find content on pixhawk in brazilian, I wrote here on the channel this week I realized that you are trustworthy and serious about the content addressed.
When I installed Ardupilot to my Pixhawk 4, I am unable to calibrate the Gyros and Level. When I switch back to PX4 I am able to calibrate. Any tips how to fix this?
Flash it using Mission Planner. That'll detect and load the correct version for the Pixhawk variant you have. See the common Pixhawk problems video and my full Pixhawk or Arduplane videos... best of luck!
Hi, thanks for the video, I already did all of the steps you showed, but external gps wont calibrate with ardupilot, it will do it with px4, I have the B/E light from the FMU flashing red, please help
I have followed your video and flashed the arduPilot from the link and did everything on the Pixhawk 4. However, I cannot complete the setup since ESC calibration fails all the time since there is an issue with ArduPilot with correctly detecting the PDB (PM07). I contacted a few people that know the Pixhawk 4 and they told me that it is impossible to use ArduPilot with Pixhawk 4. Can you please help explaining the problem and the proper ways to resolve this?
I was glad to hear you say you have had years of safe usage from the ardupilot. That is what I intend to use for my eventual happy days of flying my quad about a mile away and FPV'ing the coast (sharks and porpoises are there and visible from above). I will be doing this in a country I plan to move to called Freedom Land, where there is no big brother and I can fly however I want. That should stymie the amateur lawyers who would have chimed in "but you can't fly farther than you can see, etc. etc. etc." Now to my question. I intend to use rooftop antennas and view the fpv on a flatscreen on my workbench. I just don't want to use goggles. Is this do-able ?
Yes it is. You'll need a monitor with an RCA style input but that's kind of how FPV racers do it with a diversity Rx on a pole connected to their goggles.. Hope that helps!
if i have Arduplane installed and setup via Mission planner, can i still use the Qgroundcontrol to stream the live flight video, telemetry and navigation etc or no?, i ask because carrying a laptop in the field is a hassle and i have an android tablet which id rather use instead of the laptop
I'm so confused. Are pixhawk and ardupilot flight controller or are different things. I'm interested in a rover based in the Arduino platform but can't figure out which one is the Ardurover board. Please help.
Pixhawk, Pixhawk Cube and other flight controllers based on the Pixhawk (Durandal etc.) are only one option for the hardware. The Ardupilot family of softwares run on lots of flight controller hardware now... Happy flying
We were using mission planner 1.3.62 and in parameter settings we were using RC Pass through for the servos. When the battery is connected only one motor is responding to the throttle stick variation instead of all the four motors. Could you please give a solution!
I'd strip the setup back to basics so it's working (i.e. remove all the extra setup you've done like passthru) and then work from there adding each piece back until you find the one that causes the issue.. Best of luck!
After I flashed the Pixhawk 4 firmware with QGroungcontrol and go to APM planner I’m getting the Frame Unknown message. When I go to “Initial setup” menu and “Frame Type” there’s nothing selected neither I can choose. Do you know why that might be? Should I do the initial setup on Qgroundcontrol or APM Planner? Thanks for your help
Painless360 when you say to use misson planner and Ardupilot do you mean, flashing the flight controller with mission planner. Sorry for the noob question.
I just loaded arduplane 4.05 and tried setting up. No pwm output, armed or disarmed, fmu or io connection, just nothing at all. Does anybody have this flight controller working?
I would like to know after watching your two videos on the P4. I would like to know if this would be a good controller for a newbie? on a mid-size drone. About to order this one as it's new and updated
discuss.ardupilot.org/t/px4-vs-ardupilot-when-to-choose-what/14262 covers most of it. PX4 is 'newer' but Ardupilot had more years of testing and development. Most pilots have a view on it..
Thanks, splains a bit. On just 1 thing , wind. When I engaged loiter on my 42" quad it did not move. I had to pull full left right stick to move it and it jerked abruptly at 40 degrees and stopped dead in in its track. My bro's quad same board did not. I must have tweaked something accidentally on purpose that he didn't :)
