Just a quick note: when I'm talking about CIRCLE mode at the end I mean LOITER mode. That's the one that uses the GPS.. Thanks to those who spotted that..
Video still very handy. I don't know about you, but air reckon I have built around 15 planes and copters over the years with ardupilot, I still run into things I can't work out and videos like yours save the day (like it did today). Thanks.
Than you very much for the video. Great instructor
Lee you are a true champion! Thank you!
Auto trim tip is awesome. I haven't played with that yet.
Greetings to you from turkey
Learned quite a lot. Love from toronto
Thanks for the video, looking forward to the next!
Great video series, thanks. The Nano Talon sure has a short tail coupling to the wing. Guess it doesn't matter much on something so lite weight.
Check out the original Talon. This layout has flown in much bigger versions.. Happy flying!
Just wanted to say thank you ...... ✈️
Very nice..looks great and most def...looks great
Thank you for the great video, quick question for the aileron and tail servos, when testing if they work does the cube have to be armed?
Check out my most recent Ardupilot plane build series. I show how to setup the outputs... Best of luck
Great Video. I'm following the whole series. Can you kindly provide the link to the video of "mechanically setting up the frame"
ruclips.net/video/53jbVcKATnc/видео.html or one of my INAV for beginners series.. best of luck
Thanks for the awesome videos! I have got into this for two weeks and am super excited about all the new knowledge that I am gaining here. I am planning to incorporate this knowledge with my programming skills and build real-life problem-solving builds. Although the general steps are clear, can you please give the list of all the equipment used for this build, including the battery used? This is going to be my first build and I would have to wait a long time for all the parts to arrive, so I want to be as accurate as possible. Thank you very much!
Links to the stuff I use is usually in the video description of the video linked. If you follow the series you can find everything with a simple search. The plane is a ZOHD Nano Talon, I'm using a PixHawk orange and ArduPlane. You need a radio, receiver and battery as well. You can also add FPV kit if you want to - see my FPV for beginners series. Best of luck!
Thank you very much! I have already ordered everthing and everything seems to correspond to your listed items. Except the Cube, I got the purple cube in order for it to fit inside ZOHD Nano Talon Evo. Thanks!
Where were you when I set up my first Pixhawk? jejejeje Highly recommendable to read Ardupilot's wiki, it's very complete and you really learn the operation of FC as well as the basics of how aircrafts work. Good video, thanks 😁
You must have missed my original Pixhawk series from summer 2015 and my Pixhawk Cube series from summer 2017 :)
@@Painless360Nooooooooo, but those 2015 videos I found after setting up the first one. That's how I found this channel and I'm still here 😀
I am working with a Christian Missionary group that wants to use autonomist fix wing gliders to deliver critical medicine (anti-venom) to missionaries on the ground. The location is about 100 miles from the airport. A plane would carry the glider over the village and release it. The glider would land in a pre-designated location (way point). The glider would only have a rudder and stabilizer. This would be a one-use vehicle so the cheaper the better. I was hoping that you could recommend 1) An off the shelf airplane or 2) Simple hardware and software to achieve this goal. - Thank you for your time.
That's a little outside what I do here on the channel. Most pilots doing that stuff use Ardupilot. I have lots of content on that... Best of luck
thank you
I have several questions regarding the servo output set up, first of all, why would you use channels 8 for throttle? Secondly, I followed your guide pretty closely up to the radio calibration, but on the servo out put, the fourth channel has input in it and can be move, while yours are empty, also in your 8th channel, you can put throttle there and has input bar on that, but mine is just empty, if you could help me, I would really appreciate. Anyway, amazing video, keep it up mate
I don't understand the question. Are you confusing RC inputs and Servo outputs? If you follow every step in the series you should be fine.. Best of luck
Thanks, great tutorial
Great video, thanks!
hey plz help me out,
i need to reverse the alierons and rudder on my plane but in this page at 8:10 (servo output) , i am not able to change any values or reverse them..the alierons and rudder r moving in the wrong direction
Make sure you're using the latest Mission Planner.. best of luck!
@@Painless360 yes i am using the latest 1.72 version..but still the servo output page not working..i reversed the channels in the radio caliberation page and it worked....
Do you have a video on how you get/make the body of the plane?
Not really, best of luck
Hello painless great video as always. Your knowledge is amazing. I am building a bixler with VTOL and I was wondering if you have the set up for a tri vtol? I got all motors and servos in place and I am on the installing the pixhawk on the aircraft and I haven't don't this in a while. Thanks H
I've not tried it yet. I'm planning on using the quadplane stuff - ardupilot.org/plane/docs/quadplane-support.html
great stuff
hello there 1 ive built a fixed wing model and followed the whole steps and everything is right . but my control surfaces are not moving when i m moving the control sticks on my transmitter . im using a flysky fsi6s transmitter with flysky iA10B receiver. i dont know whats going on and ive been trying to fix this for months trying out different things . i dont know if its with the wiring or any other setting that ive done wrong. please help me out .
What troubleshooting have you done? Are you using a Pixhawk?
@@Painless360 I am having a similar issue, I am using an orange cube pilot
Hey Lee!! I'm attempting to switch modes from Stabilize to AUTO to start an autonomous plan, however the mode will not switch unless it is connected through USB to MP. How can I get around this without relying on telemetry(because I don't have it)? Thanks!!
You can't select modes like auto on the bench. It needs to be flying. See my videos on mission flying. Best of luck
Is not working for me. Could you help me? I have the big orange pixhawkboard and when its time to connect everything in the plane, I connect the servos and the motor esc to the board, but nothing works. I connected everything in the "main out" in the same layout that I had when using my radio. In mission planner it detects the radio inputs but there is no output, the servos dont move. All this, while being powered by a 12v battery. Im doing this for a university project, so it would ment a lot to me if you could give me a hand here. I can send you photos by email if you need.
Thank you.
Sergio
Check out the Pixhawk 2020 series for the latest tips on the building and setup.... Best of luck
I just love your work. Where can I find link for the video to make plane mechanically correct? Thank you very much
If you Google something like 'plane beginners setup painless360' you should find the content. I hope that helps.
Hi! thank you for your awesome videos! I'd like to see a video explaining hoy to use a joystick to control payload in the aircraft (i.e. a gimbal or any servo). Of course having a telemetry connection with the UAV (like wifi created by Herelink radio). I can't find good info in Ardupilot wiki...
Mission Planner or QGC?
How many channels can you use?
Mavlink 1 or 2?
Can I use any servo out of the Cube with this system?
These are some of the questions that I have... THANKS AGAIN!!
Already have a video on that. Check out the playlist... Happy flying
Nice one
Great Video!
Awesome Videos !! but i have a question. do you know what would cause one aileron to move more than the other? i followed ur tutorials but when i was done i was left with two issues. first the ailerons keep twitching. and the second is that my left aileron range up and down is like half of the right one. can you please help :)
Sounds like you're using a flight controller. Assuming you've not changed the rate of movement for one of them in the software, most common issues will be changes to how the linkages are connected to the control surface or the servo s are different specs... Best of luck
sir where did you buy this model from, can you please share the link.
Secondly what are these kinds of planes called. I mean I noticed it is made of thermapol so is there any specific name for that
Links in description. Check out the review of the model for links. Lots of places sell the ZOHD Nano Talon.. Happy flying!
What would you suggest pixhawk cube or matek for a quad?
It depends on what you want from the model. Most professional users will use PixHawk cubes for the solid performance and redundant sensors but the Matek boards are far cheaper and smaller for where those things are not needed..
Great video Lee and thanks for keeping me entertained in these trying times. Do you have the file for that FPV camera mount on your Thingiverse? Thanks again Lee and stay safe
That's not a camera mount. It's the ZOHD VC400 all in one FPV camera.. See my video on it Happy flying!
1. Pixhawk arms Green Light for a minute or so.
Thereafter I get "Blue light - yellow light" repeat (by website it means Gps checks failed) . Then have to I redo arming to set it to green light again.
2. I tried doing ESC calibration just using battery connection alone. Pixhawk doesn't light up in my 11.1 battery. Just keeps giving "tick tick" sounds under "battery only" connection.
I need to fix this to have a go on ESC calibration using battery.
Please type replies by numbering 1. and 2. For respective questions
What troubleshooting have you already done?
@@Painless360 I tried arming the Pixhawk to see if the constant ESC beeping ends. My Pixhawk has armed, the beeping ended but zero response in motor or servo.
Should I calibrate ESC for nano talon+Pixhawk 2.4.6 ? Or does it come armed
Is it necessary to have speed sensor to fly arduplane
No, all covered in the series..
Hi, can you provide the full list of items i need to purchase to implement this : Nano talon, Pix purple cube set etc . Also please let know how long it will take for a newbie to assemble the Nano Talon and Pix purple on it.
This is an ambitious build for the new pilot. Everything needed is shown in the series so watching it all will show you the pieces you need.. Best of luck..
Thanks for the quick response.
I'm interested in learning a fixed wing flight controller over 3-4 months. I had a tough time with soldering electronics in my previous build so I'm looking for something that doesn't need solder.
Please let know which Pixhawk is the best to begin
Is it true that ardupilot doesn't support smartaudio to change settings on the vtx? It seems so but it seems so basic to be able to control vtx power from the ground...
Yep, see the Matek build linked in the description as I cover this and the other limitations. . Happy flying!
what battery do i need for the pixhawk px4 with a 950kv brushless motor?
That depends on the weight of the model, what props you're using and how long you want to fly. See ruclips.net/video/DlQwOV3MD74/видео.html for some ideas... Happy flying
@@Painless360 like 12 in maybe and i don’t really care about flight time, maybe like 30 mins or something
You need to figure out the current the model will pull in the hover to know what battery you'll need for that flight time. To know the current you need to know the weight and prop you'll use.. See that video. Best of luck
Please make a video for rc heli set up
Series on quadcopter coming next.. Stay tuned tuned..
Everything works in my mission planner till 9:03, it recognizes my Transmitter movement on laptop. But zero response on motor and servo as ESC keeps on beeping. Any suggestions?
All covered in the video at 7:20. You need to setup what outputs are used for what control (esc, elevator, ailerson servos etc.) - best of luck!
I did that. I set throttle on channel 8. But the green bar keeps showing up in channel 4 though no channel is connected to it.
Please watch the entire series - sounds like you've missed something. Best of luck.
HI i am subhendu i want to make a Autonomous plane plz help me servo setup and parameters
Check out the various build series on the channel. I cover all the setup steps... Best of luck
9:05 : when I connect battery to my nano talon for the first time, the motor beeps continuously with a 1 sec interval.
All RC input responses are seen in mission planner but no motor or servo is moving. Just beep sounds in motor.
Any suggestions
Sounds like it can't see a valid PWM signal. I'd check your outputs in Mission planner.. Best of luck
I'm using PPM due to Flysky receiver. The mission planner values are changing wrt controller movement. But zero movement on the servo or motor.
@@ameto91 have you solved it? Having the same problem here!
Can you please tell if the following battery Is compatible with Nano Talon's ESC with Pixhawk :
11.1 V, 50 C, 5000 mAh Li-Poly.
Should be - it is essentially a 3S battery.. Best of luck!
It's strange. I've followed everything and it works on mission planner but no reaction on motors. I thought the battery is not compatible with ESC.
I would doubt that if the voltage is ok. Best of luck with it..
@@Painless360
Hey, I figured out my arming hiccups.
A solid green light glows now !
But arming happens only when it's connected via USB.
When I power the pixhawk via battery, I hear "click click" internal sound with no light radiating. Few tell me, this happens due to insufficient input voltage.
Mission Planner also shows "Battery Level = 0V" in Preflight Check.
No movement in motor too.
I'd check the battery and telemetry connections from whatever power brick you are using. Best of luck!
Anyone know if its possible to just buy the plastic parts to convert the old nano talon to the new evo version ?
I've not seen them for sale anywhere... If you find them then please let me know...
@@Painless360 Hi ya,if you look on bandgood for zohd nano, there is a listing for £7, which has some parts. Its called Spare Part Plastic Parts and Hardware Kit, i was hoping to just update my old version to the new. Mainly for the flat wing, as my original version had bad roll control, hopefully this might fix it.
Please make tutorial build VTOL plane
Video planned to the future... stay tuned!

I am looking for some help, I would be very grateful if anybody out there could assist me please. As part of a bundle Exchange I received this slope glider in good enough condition and with little Investments on my behalf, I really want to modify this aircraft into a power glider, preferably with a folding propeller at the front, I'm hoping that somebody out there could help me with the specifications that would best suits my needs. I have a 40 amp ESC both 3 or 4s compatible, I'm looking for an efficient motor and folding proppeler combination. Initially it will be on 3s lipo and depending how it behaves lithium ion 4S with a small flight controller will be its final project, I currently fly the Nano talon. I'm just looking for something else with different characteristics to improve my flying skills. I'm currently not in a financial position to be able to afford the *FMS Fox" or buy my dream aircraft "The Sting carbon scale 2.65m". So until that day comes around hopefully one day soon I am looking to enjoy the most that I can with what I have got, if anybody can help me with the ideas or the specifications or even a links to the best products I would be most grateful. Thank you, Tony
Please see my videos on motor and prop selection that were on the channel recently. I'd copy someone else's setup for minimum risk and hassle..
