Great video! And the contents of the next one will be important to stop anyone falling into the trap that i nearly did. I got my first plane build all up and running, and whilst testing things on the bench in manual mode i noticed the ailerons were reversed. This is where i made a big mistake, to solve the problem i simply reversed the output on my Taranis for the Aileron channel. Whoops! Yes, it all worked fine in manual mode, ailerons were working the correct way around. But, luckily, a bit of further testing on the bench using some other modes - FBWA for instance, revealed my mistake, my method of reversing the aileron channel was all well and good in manual mode, but useless in most of the other modes - the flight controller itself did not know that the aileron servos were reversed! Luckily i spotted my error whilst testing on the bench, otherwise it would have led to a crash the second i switched out of manual mode. Lesson learned - swap servo outputs in Mission Planner, not on the radio. :-)

Thanks for posting this - it's amazing how common that is despite it being in my other iNav and Arduplane series. If it makes you feel any better I've seen iNav builds where the radio setup was wrong from the get-go and they worked very hard to try and get the stabilising correction right and then were surprised when iNav spiralled and crashed the plane into the ground first time out. If you're interested - you can check out the rest of the series right now as all of the videos are in the playlist.. Happy flying!

I truly want to thank you for all of your videos that you suggested I view. I have a much better understanding of flight controllers, setting them up and believe I have the ability to do so. As advised, I will start by purchasing a basic system and add on additional sensors and item as I become familiar with the basic system. I am thinking a Cube set up. Can you tell me what is the latest generation orangecube/pixhawk, board, ardupilot, mission planner, etc. For some background info... the end game is to remotely and then autonomously operate my full size design of an advanced heavy lift, evtol., tilt rotor UAV. I have the scaled down version of the prototype constructed so all I need is an idea of the best system for my application, purchase it, install it and start learning how to set it up.
I really learned a lot from your videos with DSXR so I will be purchasing from them. Again, I really appreciate your videos, very well done.

    Hey Lee,
you skip on the ACCEL Calibration the Level Calibration and dont show it in a later stage in the video series. I've watched it several times but dont seem to find it. Ive maidened my plane and it tends to go nose down in FBWA. I think thats caused because of the missing level calibration. Can you show or explain what we need to watch out for on the level calibration ?

Nice explanation. I have got the feeling that you inversed the left and right side of the FC during accel calibration - or did I misunderstand something?
In my PixHawk Orange Cube, the USB plug is on the left side, so I thought that I would need to put the FC on this side for calibrating the left side...

Lee, I watched series on Omnibus and Waytek setup. Why did you have to use INav to flash them with ArduPilot instead of just using ArduPilot as you did in this Pixhawk setup? I am trying to learn this whole process for my first setup. I didn’t see anything in ArduPilot Wiki about having to use any special process on those FCs. Your series are a big help to newbies like myself. Thanks.

Hello, I have watched the 2020 videos and I think that I am missing something. In the radio calibration (setup in MP) everything calibrated successfully (red bars on all of the channels at their extents). The elevator is getting smaller readings when the stick is pressed up (I reversed it on the Taranis as suggested). In servo output (MP), the bars all move except for throttle. So, I watched the videos again. Everything looked right. I then reloaded the firmware to the Durandal and I created a new model on the Taranis. Watched the videos again and followed along. Same issue no throttle in the servo setup. I also noticed that the output is dependent on the flight mode that is selected on my radio. When I have manual selected everything except throttle works as expected. The throttle does not work at all (in servo output). What should I look for? Thanks, Don!
UPDATE! Just for fun I went through the rest of the setup. I armed it and then I saw throttle. Now I will install into my plane and see what happens.

Of all the pixhawk/cube variations available, which would you recommend as the best budget (under $200 US) option - i.e. the most capabilties balanced against ease of configuation?
