It's so frustrating because all these car companies are making over engineered junk that breaks after a few thousand miles, and yet I see them everywhere. When are people going to learn that if you want companies to make better products, you don't give them any money?
Scotty maybe the most important part that you should have mentioned is the tundra engines are locking up by dozens a day! Who would buy a truck that has a recalled defective engine???
All for 18mpg.!! My 1999 Siverado Z71 with tonneau cover would 18 mpg at 80mph (South Dakota speed limit) On tax hungry Iowa bumpy 2 lane roads at 55mph average I would get up to 24.5 to 23.3mpg. My wife used to get so frustrated that my "big" pickup would stomp our later model Trooper II V6. IIRC the avg hiway mpg with the Trooper II was 13 to 15 mpg. I explained to her numerous times that little V6 has to work HARD lugging that heavy Isuzu around. Hard work needs more energy. That's not a hard concept if you've done really hard work yourself in life. City people listening to CNN will never understand the simplest of reality concepts. FWIW I had a 1986 Trooper 2dr and 1988 Trooper 4dr. Both were simple and reliable. But bona fide scary with gusty side winds. Pulling a heavy duty trailer loaded with deer for 400 miles on I-90 I could get 29mpg. But no way at 80mph. LOL
Same reason I bought the last of the old style Sequoias. 2022 was final year of the V8. New one wasn’t the same size and compromised rear seating and storage. Then this engine ordeal…
I'll be keeping my 03 Tundra as long as possible.. When I have to buy, it'll probably be used. Or whatever truck has a good, non - turbo laden V8. Over engineering is going backwards.
I’ve got a friend that has a Tundra 5.7 not sure of the year, he keeps up with the maintenance as needed/ required, over the years he’s bought everything and I mean every major component of the truck, either new or rebuilt , he has a rebuilt engine, new engine components ps pump, A/C components, etc etc etc new transmission, new seats, carpeting, just about everything but a frame and body, when he gets 500,000 miles he has a friend that is now or just recently retired who is going to make him a new truck, he started buying these things when his truck was three years old , he just kept making “ a truck payment “ to a savings account, pretty soon he’ll have a new truck that he feels will be his last vehicle, already paid for using the “ truck payment fund” it’s a grey color right now but it’s gonna be the new green color that is on the brand new Tundra’s!
I've heard of laws being proposed that will make it illegal for mechanics to work on ICE cars. So, you'll be able to own an ICE car, you just won't be able to buy a new one or have the old one worked on.
My local dealership called me and offered me $18K for my 2014 Tundra 5.7L and I told them "sure! Don't forget the $10K mark-up so that'll be $28K because mine is in high demand... cash preferably!" shut them up real quick 😂 Glad I bought mines $32K out the door when they had to "move the lot" 😂🤙🤙🤙
My 08 Tundra get about 17 mpg, and about 12 when I tow with it. I knew it when I bought it. I have 237,000 miles on it, and it runs drives and shifts like new. And I still get compliments on how good it looks inside and out. No way I’d trade it for the New Tundra. All that change and complexity added just to get 1 more mpg??? No thank you.
The electric fans don't pump oil pressure through your turbo that is still spinning 80,000 rpm when you shut it off. Instant oil coked. Are we not going to talk about the engine failures from machining debris left in the engine during assembly? Screw you Toyota.
Possible Fix is addition of an oil accumulator with timed switch for preventing coked bearings. If I owned a vehicle with a Turbo, I would install a Moroso accumulator
@@scottmaness4449 In 1983 I was in the service dept of a Mitsubishi dealer. We performed a recall on four cylinder turbos. The factory sent us kits to install a run on switch timed to thirty seconds after the ignition switch went to off. It really worked out well.
Nissan don't make the titan anymore. Ford makes the 5.0 coyote and I think chevy still makes the 5.3 and 6.2 . If you step up to heavy duty truck you can still get a good v8 also.
100,000 tundras on recall for bad engines and more to come because the 24’s were supposed to be fixed and they are blowing up faster than the 22’s 😂🤣😂🤣 Toyota should be embarrassed with the stuff they produced in the last 2 years!
Scotty... I tow a 10,000 lb camper across the country and boondock where I want to. Having leaf springs does not make my 2021 truck outdated or old tech. My I6 Cummins 3500 8' bed mega cab can haul my ATV in the bed and tow the camper and still only sag 2" with no load bars while getting 19 MPG... I'd get 7 or 8 MPG with the Toyota V8... No comparison...
Any new/newer vehicle in my opinion is a bad choice to purchase. Overpriced, plastic, cheap thin frames and sub frames ready to crack and rust out at anytime and soon to fail electronics to just name a few----- No thank you!
I very briefly worked at a Ram dealership, and would hear about the “HEMI Tick”. The armchair critics would say they all do it, or that it was an exhaust leak. Then I bought a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with 180,000 miles on it, and yes, it ticked. I began a massive tune up on it, and two of the 16 plugs were corroded away. About four of the plugs were in only hand tight: this was why it was ticking! Original plugs? Sabotage? I don’t know. The crazy thing was with 16 new plugs, it still ran the same. I liked that truck so much I bought a new one and like it even more.
My boss bought a ford lightning and a few months later it drove itself into stopped traffic while using the adaptive cruise control. I prefer used cars where we know what the faults are
You know adaptive cruise is available on all Ford trims... Not just the ev. I've had a 94 Ford ranger. 99 F-150. 2005 stx F-150 and a 2021 F-150 5.0... I can personally say the adaptive cruise and blue cruise is amazing.
@brandonmacon3317 just because it works well for you doesn't mean it's a flawless system. And it changes over time with new vehicles coming out. Especially the most modern EV they produce. It literally caused a 3 car accident while the driver had all their weight on the brakes. I have owned a few fords and currently have an old crown Victoria, which I love. New cars haven't always had their issues uncovered yet.
Never thought I would see the day when someone would recommend NOT buying a Toyota Tundra. I completely agree. Toyota has lost the trust of many of us who were loyal to them for years. It will take a lot to get that trust back!
Thank you so much for your passion in calling out bad products in Automobiles! Never thought at 66yrs old I would ever see Appliances , Automobiles etc being made so crappy and cheap ! What's sad is my Toyota brand has become Americanized ! America used to have so much pride in their products and you could always depend on Asian brands but no more! I blame our Government for alot of this and Greedy Corporate Businesses !
WD40 isn't a lubricant. They make a full line of products including lubricants. I used my dirt bike's chain lube on my 70 El Camino's hood hinges. Worked great. I used it on the door hinges and anything else that needed lube including carburetor linkage. Good motorcycle chain lube is waterproof and won't fling off.
5.7 V8 Toyotas are King. I could buy a Defective new Tundra, but the old 2020 V8 5.7 TRDs are just so much better. Idc too much about 2-3 MPG, Especially if the engine will detonate.
I'll never own anything newer than 2005. Period. All these new rolling couches with touch screens and 50 onboard computers can suck it. Small engines in these trucks that are overworked and don't last anymore. You can keep it all.
So they do all of this crap, jack up the price 20k... for what? Slightly better mpg?! Put a NA V8 in it, let me keep the extra money, and I'll use that 20k for gas. I just don't get it lol. I'm guessing our government is worried about oil supply which is why they are trying to make vehicles "more efficient", but I wonder how much oil is used when transporting and drilling for the precious metals used in crappy electric and hybrid cars. Don't even get me started on emissions lol
My 2021 Tundra double cab with an 8 foot bed consistently gets 14 mpg with a 6 speed transmission. Makes me think they could have improved the v8 a little, mounted to the 10 speed and be in the same ballpark of fuel economy as their crappy v6.
Scotty still can't admit the Ford Lightning is better even after seeing all that power. 90% + of trucks have nothing in the bed so hardly anyone is hauling most of the time. Men buy trucks for the capability but hardly need that. They will sell more after they get the new model start up price down. $ .72 cent per gallon equivalent in charging at home gives you 4 or 5+ times the driving range of a gas guzzling truck for the same money. That alone sold me. Don't buy if you want a cross country long haul truck. Almost no one does.
23 tundra sr5 trd sport owner here (non hybrid motor). 75k miles, bought it with 6 miles on it. I drive all over the US for work, thus the high mileage. The turbo lag was definitely something to get used to but I dont even notice it now. I drive above speed limit (allegedly). Average 17-19mpg but if I go for best mileage I can easily do 21-22. Best I've done is 24mpg. Eco mode is less efficient than Normal, or even Sport. Mine does not govern out at 107 (allegedly).
EVERY time I go to Toyota, I tell them (and the workers in the maintenance dept agree) that fewer people are buying new Tundras largely due to their abandonment of the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid) by replacing a proven V8 with garbage, ESPECIALLY since they have a whole fleet of cars w/hybrid tech to increase the overall fleets mpg to appease the govt. They also ask nearly wkly to trade in my 2018 V8 with less than 54K mi. Their sales dept hears the same response...no way, I'll not consider until they at least offer a V8.
Yes the new hybrid tundras are better but I like the old 2021and older Toyota V8 tundras better still. You buy a truck not for gas mileage for hauling and towing that's what truck are made for.
Well I looked at all the GM pickups and used one's. So I got 2022 SR5 an 45000 on it . Know engine problems ! In the summer it gets an average of 20.4 this year ! In Minnesota winter the gas mileage will go down . The best milage I gotten is driving US 14 in SD is 28 mpg at 55 mph !
Every 2x4 WD MOPAR I ever owned was UNBELIEVABLE BAD when it comes to snowy, icy or muddy driving. Unacceptable for me in NH. MOPAR 4x4 does well traction wise.
Scotty, i’m genuinely curious what you think about the Datsun 720 with the factory SD22 diesel.. that’s if you ever heard of one. I personally own two and absolutely love them. 40+ mpg and it’s an old diesel!
I wouldn't expect more than 19mpg from a full size pick up. I can get 19 from my F150 Eco Boost 3.5 BUT you have to peddle it. No fast starts no 75mph cruising no none of that. Normal driving it gets 16-17 mpg.
I have a 2006 Toyota tundra sr5 4.7L V8 with 317k miles it doesn’t leak oil or burn oil, ac still blows cold 🥶 no check engine light 💡 plus it’s lifted with king 👑 coilovers in front and fox in back with original engine and original transmission I’ve replaced the radiator and a couple other parts but it’s running perfect and I hope I can get it to 500,000k miles just on fluid changes 💪🇺🇸🇯🇵😂

Scotty never runs out of oxygen, good set of lungs, ty♥️😊🙏
Moves his arms like a cheerleader shaking pom poms
yeah but he's right!
*But bad teeth*
@@bghoody5665over my mother in-laws dead body they better not
The problem is finding a good used vehicle will be much harder as the years go by
Way way too much tech nowadays! I’ll always buy older vehicles albeit I do like the Nissan frontier with the naturally aspirated V6
My local dealership called me and offered me $18K for my 2014 Tundra 5.7L and I told them "sure! Don't forget the $10K mark-up so that'll be $28K because mine is in high demand... cash preferably!" shut them up real quick 😂
Glad I bought mines $32K out the door when they had to "move the lot" 😂🤙🤙🤙
Maybe this explains why older trucks are going up in value.
Older recent Toyota's before the change over, yes. Just some random old Trucks, no.
Many more expensive things to go wrong, and they will. Often
Anyone who would get the new junk Tundra while many V8 Tundras still available is just looking for the status of “new truck look at me” kinda thing
@fromthebackofmymind Also driver training, which will never happen. Build oil pressure, drive, allow spin down, shut off.
@@scottmaness4449 In 1983 I was in the service dept of a Mitsubishi dealer. We performed a recall on four cylinder turbos. The factory sent us kits to install a run on switch timed to thirty seconds after the ignition switch went to off. It really worked out well.
Why not just have 8 cylinders regular truck ( no turbo)
@@fromthebackofmymind I had friends with Cummins in the Dodges that had aftermarket systems that did that. Worked well for them too.
Make full sized trucks great again
this man has a vast knowledge of automotive. legend
Love that attitude Scotty, "old dog, new tricks", don't ever quit.
Nissan titan still offers a great full size truck, with old school reliability
only a month change alternators
Nissan don't make the titan anymore. Ford makes the 5.0 coyote and I think chevy still makes the 5.3 and 6.2 . If you step up to heavy duty truck you can still get a good v8 also.
Toyota has really dropped the ball with their trucks
Too complicated and way overpriced.
100,000 tundras on recall for bad engines and more to come because the 24’s were supposed to be fixed and they are blowing up faster than the 22’s 😂🤣😂🤣 Toyota should be embarrassed with the stuff they produced in the last 2 years!
Blame the EPA. I'm sure a company like Toyota would have loved to keep putting the old V8s in
People don’t buy the tundra, a friend of mine has the hybrid system, it failed. Even the dealer doesn’t know how to fix it
2024 tundra is on recall..bad motors bad transmissions and electrical issues😂😂
Sad days. V8 Victory
There was no transmission or electrical issue with the tundra. You’re talking about the Chevrolet Silverado 😂😂
Toyota is going to replace 102,000 Tundra engines.
@@Mr_Nobody-0-J false...
They suck
I'm happy with my 14 5.7L V8 Tundra. 👍
Same year same engine, she's a beast 👍
Toyota must hate their prior customer base. They’re turning into a clone of modern GM.
I have seen 0 Lightnings, several Foundation Cybertrucks, one red production Cybertruck, a few dozen Rivians, and thousands of Teslas.
Looking at that engine compartment, I’m not sure anyone can touch this thang. Too much technology: and plumbing, for me.
It is amazing how many people buy a truck to use as a car.
look at their bumpers!!! couldnt stop a shopping cart
Better than buying a car to use as a truck
It would be nice if Scotty would be more expressive with his arms. 😂
All this crap is getting too complex and unreliable....
Yeah I want twin turbo and hybrid.
Yeah right
yep...toyota is losing what made their brand good!
Yes. Over engineered cr@p.
We gotta save humanity from the climate
I'd never buy one
Too damned complicated, too damned expensive.
Straight piped Mercedes GL500 M278 V8 Bi-Turbo
I also loved the HEMI 5.7 in the 2013 Ram 1500 truck
"Toyota makes their own transmission so I don't expect any problems with them". Toyota's new 8-speed... Hold my beer.
Never thought I would see the day when someone would recommend NOT buying a Toyota Tundra. I completely agree. Toyota has lost the trust of many of us who were loyal to them for years. It will take a lot to get that trust back!
If you have an older car with manual transmission, consider it a treasure. It will run forever without any issues that an EV can cause.
I’ll take my Ford F250 or 22 miles to gallon 6.7 diesel any day
No chance I'd ever touch that Ford Lightening for $60k. I wouldn't buy that thing for $20k.
rather buy a van
Thank you so much for your passion in calling out bad products in Automobiles! Never thought at 66yrs old I would ever see Appliances , Automobiles etc being made so crappy and cheap ! What's sad is my Toyota brand has become Americanized ! America used to have so much pride in their products and you could always depend on Asian brands but no more! I blame our Government for alot of this and Greedy Corporate Businesses !
‘17 F150 with Coyote 8: 22 light city driving and 23+ at 70 mph. I’ll keep the Ford thank you.
If you have a Toyota Tundra with the 4.7 V8 or the 5.7 V8? Keep it, its not worth upgrading to the new version
Really like my 2022 Frontier. 310hp V6. Performance muffler and K&N drop in filter
Ooooooooo,cool filter ! 🙄🥱🥱🥱
Nice truck
@@modus_operandi2508 I’m 56yr old. No desire to spend heavily on upgrades. Good enough for me.
That’s a rag of a truck
Lmao! Performance exhaust 😂....does nothing but make noise
I bought a 2024 F-150 Lightning XLT for 43k USD. It's awesome. Americans dont want them but Canadians do, apparently.
I'll never own anything newer than 2005. Period. All these new rolling couches with touch screens and 50 onboard computers can suck it. Small engines in these trucks that are overworked and don't last anymore. You can keep it all.
I think I get 18-20 MPG in a 2003 f150. Has the essex V6 4.2. still goes down the road when I need it to.
Imagine how Scotty was as a child.
Truck makers have decided to make their products be replaced more often so they can sell more
So they do all of this crap, jack up the price 20k...
Kudos to the mechanics who do this! Tires Plus, Baxter, MN, Midland Auto, New Hope/Crystal, MN. They've got me out of jams! Sorted me out!
Too damned complicated for me.
I'm keeping my Cummins!
My 2021 Tundra double cab with an 8 foot bed consistently gets 14 mpg with a 6 speed transmission. Makes me think they could have improved the v8 a little, mounted to the 10 speed and be in the same ballpark of fuel economy as their crappy v6.
Nah, that's too many gears. Transmission will slip eventually. Leave it as is. Toyota knew what they were doing before the 3rd Gen.

Scotty: "The cows are whizzing by!" 😂
Love your VIDEOS. Love this one too
The only new truck that I would buy right now would be the F-150 with the V-8 and I wouldn't be too excited for that.
Simplify and don't overcharge
I could buy a new truck today for cash if I wanted too. I used to buy a new vehicle every 5 years, now I buy land instead.
Totally untrue I'll keep my gas guzzling super duty😁
Scotty my 2002 Ford F250 7.3 does better than all these trucks🤠
23 tundra sr5 trd sport owner here (non hybrid motor). 75k miles, bought it with 6 miles on it. I drive all over the US for work, thus the high mileage.
The turbo lag was definitely something to get used to but I dont even notice it now. I drive above speed limit (allegedly). Average 17-19mpg but if I go for best mileage I can easily do 21-22. Best I've done is 24mpg. Eco mode is less efficient than Normal, or even Sport.
Mine does not govern out at 107 (allegedly).
All the tech and energy put into this stuff, and an old V8 still works better and gets same gas mileage. Government intervention is useless.
"If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand." - Milton Friedman
⬆️ that's funny as hell but 💯 percent true lmao 🤣
I don't think that tundra is beautiful. Ùgly grill , ugly bumpers and bumpers are plastic. Turbos . No thanks.
Big work truck, V8, case closed.
Why not put a V8 and keep things simple and more reliable? It's a gas hog either way!
But you’re right , they’re not right switching a V6 for a V8 . Anyone knows that a V 8 is a good thing on a pick up
I'm a big Toyota fan as well, they are great cars etc 😎
The check engine light was on and scotty didnt address it?
I think the truck was in accessory mode.
I will never buy a Toyota truck today...they got lots of Trans problems
Enjoying my 2016 Tundra TRD PRO😎
I love my ‘05 V8 Tundra. 325,000 miles.
Good Video Scotty.
Scotty did your spraying the shock fix the noise?
Very informative! Thanks!
Could you visit the 2024/5 Ford f150 5.0 10spd is it trusted?
Thank You Mr Kilmer 🙏👍🐕🦺
I’m a fan of Scotty 🎉
Yes the new hybrid tundras are better but I like the old 2021and older Toyota V8 tundras better still. You buy a truck not for gas mileage for hauling and towing that's what truck are made for.
Well I looked at all the GM pickups and used one's. So I got 2022 SR5 an 45000 on it . Know engine problems ! In the summer it gets an average of 20.4 this year ! In Minnesota winter the gas mileage will go down . The best milage I gotten is driving US 14 in SD is 28 mpg at 55 mph !
But they laughing at Nissan......crazy work. Thai is coming from an owner of a 2006 Toyota Tacoma with 200,000+ miles!!!!
Every 2x4 WD MOPAR I ever owned was UNBELIEVABLE BAD when it comes to snowy, icy or muddy driving. Unacceptable for me in NH.
MOPAR 4x4 does well traction wise.
I miss the V8 too
THANX SCOTTY FOR BEIN REAL..I HAV 2013 F-250 SD CREW,,,NOOOOO SCREENS TO DIE OR BREAK..THOU THE 2 SPARK PLUGS PER CYLINDER HAS ME WONDERING...WDF,,
You shouldn't idle the new Ram diesels either.
Scotty, i’m genuinely curious what you think about the Datsun 720 with the factory SD22 diesel.. that’s if you ever heard of one. I personally own two and absolutely love them. 40+ mpg and it’s an old diesel!
Yes I have two z old gas motors in a couple of trucks! 27mpg
What full size truck would you recommend Scotty? If buying new?
Am I the only one freaking out while Scotty swinging the pry bar around the ram while talking to camera???
Thoughts on the corolla truck coming out next year?
