This engine has been trouble free, wish I could say the same for the body. It has had some bodywork done and needs more now. I would take a lot to make me part with it.
We have a 2001 F350 with a 7.3, stick, and low profile utility bed. We pull our 5th wheel and get 12-14 mpg with the trailer having done a 5000 mile 14 states in 14 days trip (OR to ND to TX to WY to OR), a 7,800 mile trip (OR to PA to GA to New Orleans to KC MO to NE to OR) and just did 3000 (OR to Zion to Grand Canyon to Horseshoe bend to Winslow AZ to Petrified forest and painted desert to Quartzite to OR). Got it with 189k for $6,000 in 2018. Installed the fifth wheel hitch, running boards, and replaced the bench seat with a 40/20/40. It’s a work truck so manual windows and locks, no cruise, but simplicity rocks and doesn’t fail as easily. The only thing we’ve had to do besides routine maintenance is replace the clutch at 210k and we’ve now got 250k. A couple of years after I sold it I spoke to the guy I sold it to and he said it was still running with over 300k miles and still using no oil between changes. I owned a new 2003 GMC HD 2500 Denali diesel truck with the LB7 and have regretted the day I sold it ever since! I thought I was upgrading when purchasing a new 2019 GMC HD 3500 Denali with the L5P Diesel engine. While the new L5p supposedly has much more HP and torque, it also has a lot of emission controls (CAT, EGR, and DEF fluid) that significantly reduce the actual effective power and requires a lot more maintenance. I never had any issues in almost 15 years of ownership with the LB7, yet my L5 seems live at the dealership with issues and maintenance. LB7 is a Great diesel engine. If you own one, hang on to it !

I have an ext cab 2500 HD Silverado. I bought it to pull a 6000 pound boat she just had to have. That truck can pull that boat 85 mph like it's not even there. Thank God for the Allison transmission and the 4:10 144 bolt posi disk brake rear end. GM wasn't playing around when they built this truck. With 250000 miles on the clock, I wouldn't hesitate to take it to California and then on to New York.

@sidviscous5959 250k is the norm for every car these days. 500 is the new "attaboy" mileage. I've had 7 5.3 chevy trucks with between 330k and 480k never had a valve cover off. They didn't make it either. Toyota v8s in their 2000s trucks and Lexus ls400s from 90s, gm's 300 inline 6, there are a dozen engines that could be on this list, it's obvious from the way it was read and the photos that weren't right half the time it's AI generated, doesn't mean much
Jeep should have kept this engine and drive train, but they wanted vehicles to break down, so the owner would get it in the shop every other week for repairs or replace the vehicle. Stellantis 'motto is planned obsolescence
Nice informative narrative except AI glitches like 8-one hundred vs. 81-hundred. But the photo editing was lousy with V8 pics shown when talking about inline 6s and Ford trucks and Toyota trucks shown when talking about Chevys, etc.
Didn't Ford have a legendary 500+ cu. in. that was replaced by a v-10 ? I have an '03 v-10 coming up on 300k mi. I have read this v-10 successfully replaced the legendary (505?) that Ford ran in RV and heavy trucks.
Ford 6.7 power stroke is a discusssing messspend over ten months in the repairs shop in the last two years and cost me close to ten grand they still have not figured it out either just will not start
This must be AI written, the enging choices weren't bad, but the readers statements really make no sense sometimes, and the photos don't match the engine half the time. During the 8.1 segment we saw a bunch of supercharged engines, something with a factory valley turbo setup, not GMs 8.1. How many times did he say something like ", but what if you wanted more power and pulling force" then proceed to introduce an engine with half the torque and hp, and sometimes size? You guys should avoid car stuff unless you know car stuff
How the powerstroke is not at the top of the list makes me question just what this guy knows honestly. Agree that you can not go wrong with any of these motors. But which one will out work the 7.3 powerstroke? I would love to see it and not for one stupid contest for a day but over 10-15 years with a hard working truck owner pulling big loads and playing in the mud like it is designed to do. That said some of you have a lot to say about cusrom trucking. I will just say my afternarket suspension raising the truck up 3 in and on some 35's that have maybe an inch of poke will do eveything it did while stock but better. Big difference though is the girls that didnt use to look now want a ride. Since i am not alphebet army i kind of like to give them that ride if ya follow me here lol. My hands are far from soft but more like leather gentlemen. Just saying we aint all pole smokers lol
Nope pitting 33s a lift and using it as a truck. If you have soft hands or back in the day all you had to say is you too soft you shouldn't be driving or owing a truck might as well get a small suv or car I call those the dunkin donut vehicles because majority are women drivng them wanna be vehicles lol 😆 😅 and gay dudes lmfoa 😊😂 or LGBT whatever floats your boat 🚢 😅
I have an 06 trailblazer with the 4200 in it. 346000 miles on it and the only te i have to open the hood between oil changes is when the dang battery goes dead

22r was easy to kill put 35s on it and the thrust washers would fall out in the oil pan it was no super motor
Any top rated engine list that puts Cummins 5.9 at #10 is a waste of time to watch, if you think a 7.3 powerjoke is better why did so many of us toss a loud glow plug eating low power abilty engine in the scrap and get us a what Cummins 5.9 , #1 best engine built, many go a million miles and thr SIMPLEST to work on. This guy knows very little about the real world of truck engines . Go to any truck or tractor pull and 95% will be 6 in a row for a reason less moving parts and long strong connecting rods give you torque He named many fair to good engines in the video but his numbering best to worst of the ten was a total fail ,.waste of my time
Did he just put those anemic 6.2 and 6.5 gm diesels on this list?? He lost all credibility 🤦♂️. Gas burner 2v triton should’ve been on this list look at how many cab and cop cars ran those with thousands of idle time and they are known to last 400-500k miles routinely.
Ford's 2.3l i4 in my 97 ranger has 230 k on it and after replacing the rear crank seal when I replaced the clutch at 190k it now doesn't use a drop of oil. Runs like a sewing machine. I've had three of these engines go over 190 k on other vehicles. The biggest pain is changing the timing belt every 10 to 15 years
The 22R is a very good motor but, I actually have to say, the Ford 351W is up there with me. I have a 95 F-150 that just rolled 403,000 miles....not kidding, no overhaul, just frequent oil changes and tune ups. I seriously am surprised how long this engine has kept going and it still uses no oil and runs fine.
HOW ABOUT THE OLD GM D478 & DH478 V-6 478CI... I HAD ONE IN A IH TRAVEL ALL 1975 WITH A NP-542? TRANSMISSION, PULL ANYTHING AND GOT 18 MPG ALL THE TIME BOTH PULLING OR EMPTY...
God I hate AI narration. Butchering iconic names like the three hundred fifty V8. It’s a freakin three-fifty. Throw in engines that are clearly labeled as being something different.
Chevy used to build great trucks and engines, but they are JUNK now especially the 5.3 V8 POS FORD also made tough engines that would run ,no matter what!!!!
It makes me sad how woefully behind the times this comment section is, right alongside the AI narration of the video. Lets see what the engines are 20 years from now? Time & technology tend to make things better, more efficient, more powerful, it just takes a little more time for the general population to catch up assuming they can open their minds.
😂6.2 litre gm diesel with the built in 2 piece crankshafts plasticene sheerpin between 6&7 even with meticulous maintence they could not crack 100,000km in any commercial service . 6.5 only service because it had less compression. they were only slightly stronger than the oldsmobile 350 diesel.😢

Toyota v8s in their 2000s trucks and Lexus ls400s from 90s, gm's 300 inline 6, there are a dozen engines that could be on this list, it's obvious from the way it was read and the photos that weren't right half the time it's AI generated, doesn't mean much
Your images don't match the video 😅
Well there are a bunch of you know video people reading a script. The 14-year-old who's editing the video has no idea about any of these vehicles.
Jeep should have kept this engine and drive train, but they wanted vehicles to break down, so the owner would get it in the shop every other week for repairs or replace the vehicle. Stellantis 'motto is planned obsolescence
Dodge 318
Nice informative narrative except AI glitches like 8-one hundred vs. 81-hundred. But the photo editing was lousy with V8 pics shown when talking about inline 6s and Ford trucks and Toyota trucks shown when talking about Chevys, etc.
Which engines do you think are the most reliable that were built in the last 10 years since 2014?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Didn't Ford have a legendary 500+ cu. in. that was replaced by a v-10 ? I have an '03 v-10 coming up on 300k mi. I have read this v-10 successfully replaced the legendary (505?) that Ford ran in RV and heavy trucks.
Ford 6.7 power stroke is a discusssing messspend over ten months in the repairs shop in the last two years and cost me close to ten grand they still have not figured it out either just will not start
The Aussie Barra
Also the Toyota diesel wasn't stateside BTW.
My 2004 gmc came with a 4.8 gen 3, it was a dog, I dropped a 364/450 Chevy performance gen 3 and now it’s a race horse!
Where is the 2uzfe??? Unimpressed
The order of this list is funny...
My 10,000 lb Silverado 6.6L is still strong at 265000 miles.
GM made overhead valve engines for over one hundred years.
Forget the showtruck wide tire look...leave the trucks alone and leave em' stock...we dont need a youth cruising movement here!
Amen to that 🙏
Nope pitting 33s a lift and using it as a truck.
Grow a pair
6.9/7.3 idi
I have an 06 trailblazer with the 4200 in it. 346000 miles on it and the only te i have to open the hood between oil changes is when the dang battery goes dead
That's amazing mileage - it sounds like you've got a real workhorse!
That's amazing mileage - it sounds like you've got a real workhorse!
That chevy looks punched out lowered to the ground like that and those ugly wagon wheels and thin tires look totally stupid looking, which both lowerering it to the ground and those ugly wheels and tires ruined the looks of that truck completely.
first lb7s were a joke they had a ton of injector problems and it wasn't a collab it was isuzu motor Gm purchased
Some Californians could not evacuate because the Grid burned down . ELECTRIC ⚡
I thought for sure the 4.3 Chevy motor would be one of them
359,000 miles on my 4.3
3.6L Pentastar
LOL
We don't need a pimped out Chevy truck lowered so you could push a pop can down the street and hit every speed bump and ruin the undercarriage with a pothole
22r was easy to kill put 35s on it and the thrust washers would fall out in the oil pan it was no super motor
Wrong 7.3 Ford that would be the 7.3 idi that is known for reliability your welcome again. 14:54
I have a 2003 Chevy 4x4 6.6 Duramax LB7 Over 250,000 Miles. Did replace the transfer case.
Go to any truck or tractor pull and 95% will be 6 in a row for a reason less moving parts and long strong connecting rods give you torque He named many fair to good engines in the video but his numbering best to worst of the ten was a total fail ,.waste of my time
Six in a row ready to tow. 12 valve 5.9 all the way 👍👍💪
Did he just put those anemic 6.2 and 6.5 gm diesels on this list?? He lost all credibility 🤦♂️. Gas burner 2v triton should’ve been on this list look at how many cab and cop cars ran those with thousands of idle time and they are known to last 400-500k miles routinely.
They never made a v8 to out do an inline
Why are they showing a 4BT? Duh
The 351W is a legendary engine, and it's no surprise it's still going strong after 403,000 miles.
HOW ABOUT THE OLD GM D478 & DH478 V-6 478CI... I HAD ONE IN A IH TRAVEL ALL 1975 WITH A NP-542? TRANSMISSION, PULL ANYTHING AND GOT 18 MPG ALL THE TIME BOTH PULLING OR EMPTY...
My 01 gmc with the 8.1 has 326,000 and still going strong. Burned a quart of oil every 3000 since it was new, a common thing I understand.
God I hate AI narration. Butchering iconic names like the three hundred fifty V8. It’s a freakin three-fifty.
Throw in engines that are clearly labeled as being something different.
Chevy used to build great trucks and engines, but they are JUNK now especially the 5.3 V8 POS
FORD also made tough engines that would run ,no matter what!!!!
It makes me sad how woefully behind the times this comment section is, right alongside the AI narration of the video.
Lets see what the engines are 20 years from now? Time & technology tend to make things better, more efficient, more powerful, it just takes a little more time for the general population to catch up assuming they can open their minds.
I though the ford 6.2L V8 Boss was a very reliable engine, seems to be under AI radar...
I have 2 1999 RAM 1500 5.9l magnum. They're tanks.
6bt is great until the pin falls into the timing case
dont waste your time.
And the worst 10 truck engines from the past? I don't think the later engines can be included or they will easily take the top 10. 😢
The engine in the thumbnail is notoriously crappy....
I've heard that the 8.1 litre V8 is a great engine
Yeah, except it had enormous oil burning problems.
Its just a bored out 454
For the 8.1 a little oil consumption is a feature not necessarily a problem…
@@waggtech4883 I have known people who used 3 qts of oil during an oil fill interval. That is far from " a little oil consumption."
300 inline was a joke gutless oil burning couldn't even pull a boat up a boat ramp what a joke
A old toy,2.4,5 speed,4x4,with 31,, tires will go places big 4x4,s onlydream of, that little engine embarrasses big trucks with v.8s, period!!!
Too bad any new Toyota vehicle made after 2022 is absolute junk. Toyota has fallen.
Not my 24 Toyota 4Runner with the 4.0 litre 1GR-FE. The last of the NA Toyota V-6's
It's yet to be proven to me but I'm with you. I definitely don't like what they've done lately!
another load of BS the 496 metric motor had terrible mileage. Power that was lack luster
My 4.0 burned oil bad.
Not a fan of these Ai videos that mispronounce things
I've owned all rhe gas engines on this list save one. In my book, the 300 i6 is the best.
Triton V8
WTF
The 99-06 4.8,5.3 GM
Don't believe much of this video. Many of the problems with many of these engines were overlooked.
Toyota 5VZFE 3400
