A little hint. With this many people watching and helping. Hand-held air horns are a must. They can and WILL save a life. Someone sees anything wrong, one blast on the horn and everybody stops.
Love the guy standing under the raised backhoe bucket. We call a bucket being in the air for no reason an "Asshole Magnet", and they are. It's amazing how, out of all the room on a job site, some people are just attracted to the spot under a bucket or suspended load.
As I’m watching the beginning of this pull I’m looking at all those bodies that are standing in probably some of the worse places they could be standing in, should anything (like a cable or that block) come apart with all that pressure that’s being put on all those things!
All those Guys standing near the steel cable while pulling ? And the nomination for the Darwin Award 2023 goes to : "The grey hoddie guy with the Smartphone filming" !!
Grew up in a construction family with heavy equipment. Started working with my dad when I was 10 and when he had to use a cable he made sure me and my brothers knew the danger if it broke. He once took a piece of cable about 6 foot long and laid down a watermelon and swung it so hard it cut it in two. He then look at us and said, "That was child's play compared to how fast that cable will come at you if it snaps. Just think of that watermelon has your head" LOL We stayed clear.

Excellent piece of recovery, hope the engine on the excavator isn't damaged. I concur with what others say about keeping people out of the hazard zone if a cable/chain breakes.
@@Pulse87dotca Thought the exact same thing. Not sure why they wouldnt' all be ready when they decided to start it. I wouldn't have ran it any longer than absolutely necessary. Not worth pulling it outta there if it's going to cost more to repair it than what it's worth
I could not believe how deep it was in the water! you really know how to properly rig the equipment to be able to remove it from the water w/o damaging or tipping over. great job getter it done
3:50 That guy not only stands in reach of the cable if snapped, he also stands under the boom of the excavator, which is pulling the load.😲 This is amateur hour, that guy doesn't have a clue. And nobody notices it.... Unbelievable...🙄
A lot of Chiefs, an awful lot of Chiefs... i liked it when one of the Chiefs was yelling at the Excavator operator to shut her off, only to see the Excavator operator get it up and out of the water. Experts are generally only as clever as they assume they are!

You guys are scaring the crap out of me. I spent 20 years in the Navy and have seen many lines and ropes part. You had guys standing in the bite of the ropes, guys stepping over ropes under strain, guys standing directly in line with the direction of pull where a parted rope will travel, and guys in the work area who really did not need to be there. Please take more care in the future parting lines and ropes are no joke. They will literally tear body parts off. (before anyone makes a dumb comment, if it's made from fibers, it's line, if it's made of metal it's rope)
Nice job helping out a friend in need Brandon. He will be embarrassed about this accident for the rest of his life. That's why he kept at it when Dad was telling him to shut it down. Your buddy just wanted it to be over. Poor guy.
That was intense . Good job guys . I was worried about the guy running in toward the tight cable . That kind of power would cut him in half in a second .
Coming soon to an auction near you. 1 recently washed 892 excavator 😀. Good job guys. A few years ago a company was trying to clear a floating bog from behind a dam and swamped a similar sized excavator. That took a dozer and 3 heavy wreckers to pull it out
Now could you just imagine what it would be like with one of them new Volvo electric excavators, there would be no hope in hell of it starting unlike diesel power
Great recovery!! The 8 didn’t even have to pull hard! Y’all did an awesome job!! I also enjoyed seeing how smooth dad is operating!! Thank you for sharing!!
“Dead” MACHINE!! I am so relieved that your thumbnail wasn’t speaking of scooping up drowning victims… Enjoyable video though; I always gravitate to watching and doing work with mechanical advantage
It would have been much cheaper and easier to dewater this small lake if you were allowed to pump this water over the outlying area. Placing a containment around the machine would have collected all the oils.
So many people trying to die if that cable snaps on the first pull have been driving the tow tracker when this has happened the rollbar saved me with some quick reactions dangerous business well done getting her out
Holy crap he was determined to get her out. It sounds like when the piston dead headed it may have bent a rod, with all the smoke and clatter from the engine this little jaunt may hurt his behind.
Yikes 😳 that dude is standing in the line of fire!!🔥 that cable snaps! He would have been cut in half or his head!! Ouch! Glad none of them chains or cables snapped!

I have never heard so many people moaning about safety let these guys do what they want it’s their decision and just get the job done going by some of the comments that 360 would still be in the pond this time next year just get the job done
Excavators should NEVER, EVER, dig from water when there’s a crane on the job! Excavators don’t even come close to the reach of a dragline. Hopefully this excavator man has learned his lesson. It’s a lesson in “undermining”.
It is a very bad idea for this guy to stand next to a cable under tension, if that cable snap and get him, he will be dead and not the excavator. It is a good practice to throw a heavy coat or a wet blanket over the cable.
I have been a heavy equipment operator sense I was 14 yo. I run excavators on construction until I retired and I never done anything like this in my life. Common sense is uncommon. I always can sense a dangerous situation and avoid it. Know you machine and know your ground. Anyone who puts a machine in a mess like this can run the machine but is not a true operator.
A couple of guys were standing in a really bad place. They need to stay clear in case a chain, cable or something else breaks. God bless
Thought the same thing. The guy at 0:15:30 was rushing.
@@W1LLB0 yep, an idiot.
I couldn't help but worry for them to! This underscores the need for a mandatory team safety meeting of what's going to be done and what not to do
Even after the cable snapped there was no apparent sense of the real danger as to how bad that could have been. Fantastic video otherwise!
I couldn’t agree more. They can be deadly when they snap.
A little hint. With this many people watching and helping. Hand-held air horns are a must. They can and WILL save a life. Someone sees anything wrong, one blast on the horn and everybody stops.
❤🎉😢😮😮😅
They must agree on that honking the horn means stop and not floor it.
Headset radios best use for recovery.
The guy running toward the tight cable, waving his arms....Darwin Award candidate.
Totally. You should have been there in a lazy boy. Everyone reporting for duty directly to you oh great one. GTFO.
🤪😁🤪That’s funny.
Mistakes were made but they got it out. Suffice it to say my dad wouldn't have been happy if we did some of the things they did.

Because hydraulics never fail. Almost as dumb as standing next to a cable with that much tension on it. Because cables never break either.
this looked like the Three STOOGES at work = YIKES !

One does break at 8.44 by the sounds of it …
You should always stand directly beside a cable under tension...
they're old enough to know that!
That D8 is going to need some new grousers about 30 years ago.
Tracks loose as hell
New pins and bushings at same time

Awesome job and teamwork!!
It concerned me to see people standing in the arc of the pull cable swing.
They got back when I really pulled hard nice thing about cable is it don't really fly like chain will its goes straight and falls quick
This looks a little sketchy. Why was he even close to the pond 😩.....??
Yeah, nothing weird about your excavator being right in the middle of the lake....keep moving folks nothing to see here...
Guy standing under the excavator boom!😅😅😅

It is damaged for sure, they shouldn't start the engine.
The stuck excavator doesn't sound healthy. Hard to tell with all the other equipment running but I believe it is knocking. Great job getting it out.
I'm surprised they ran it that long with what was likely a crank case full of pond water.

No doubt it will be but I think we will see hydrogen powder excavators be for we see electric ones dominate the market
