      Darn, I usually confirm that but must have forgotten on this video. I just looked back through my recorded footage and don't see anything. Sorry about that. I'm going to pin this comment and hopefully someone else who still has the card can check for you.

    Great looking card. Fan layout reminds me of Founder's Edition cards. Refreshing to see something different. Vertical mounting makes sense with this one.

      Yeah, I think MSI did a great job with the design. I hadn't thought of vertically mounting it. I should get myself a vertical mount for my Corsair 5000D test bench system and show off both ways for people. Thanks for the idea!

    idk bro, 75C is not cool as cucumber, and while drawing only about 300W, i would expect better temps for how much it costs.
    i know you can set a custom fan curve, but still...

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  8 месяцев назад +3

      Yeah, it's a good point. I just compared it to the 4080s that I reviewed and most of them stayed in the 60s. Hmm.. to me, 75C still isn't bad considering it doesn't thermal throttle until 88C.. but still, it could have been cooler. Consider, those tests were done at 30% fan speed.

    • @Sakebo
      @Sakebo 8 месяцев назад +2

      It might just be the luck of the draw cause I just picked mine up the other day and my core temps depending on game are between 60-70 and hitting 75 when using Path Tracing in Cyberpunk. Hotspot is around 70-80 depending on my use and vram stops at 70c. Case is a Corsair 7000x and clock speeds are 2760mhz.

    I was a huge fan of MSI's evoke oc 5700 card from back in the day that had a similar look. Do you think it's worth getting this or holding out for the next series of gpus?

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  4 месяца назад +1

      I'd buy one of these used, to help save cost. They haven't applied any discounts on these cards yet, so I'd wait if you plan to buy new. I hear the new cards will be announced at CES in January, but we may not see cards for a few months afterwards. When the 3000 & 4000 series came out, it was quite difficult to get cards.. so that's a concern too. If you're in the market for a card, buy a used one for now and then consider upgrading again next year.

      I ran into the same issue. Performance was fine for a while, then the top exhaust fan stopped after normal in-game stress (I think I was playing Last Epoch at the time...nothing crazy). This was after about a week of use. I tried everything to get it going again. I called MSI for tech support, they had walked me through the standard stress test procedures. Nothing. The recommended returning it to the retailer, so I did. Ended up returning it to newegg,
      I later went with a different 4080 super. No slight on the MSI expert, as I believe there may have been just a few bad cards out there.

      Nah, some vendors do it. Others don’t. I can’t remember if that one did or not. Just make sure it’s pushed in all the way and you’ll be fine. I do recommend buying a dedicated 12vhwpr cable to clean things up. Those adapters are bulky.

    • @JohnLCharette

      Yes, in a traditional horizontal mount, it pulls air from the bottom and shoots it up towards the CPU.

    • @frantz4g63
      @frantz4g63 4 месяца назад +1

      It has 2 exhausts actually. In the orientation of this video, the left fan will exhaust it out of the left side, and the right fan will exhaust it directly out of the top. I have this card in my tower 300 build, and I use vertical orientation. Most of the heat is being dispersed through the side rather than the side that has the grill. That side is more cool air than anything if you're using this gpu as intake.
