Hey! Great review, thank you! I got the same card one week ago. The temperatures were pretty similiar to yours (especially during 4K gaming, hotspot ~90C), so I decided to undervolt it a little. Changed to 900mV and 2550 MHZ in MSI Afterburner. No big difference in performance, but the temperatures dropped to 75-80 for hotspot. Personally, for me, it's not loud at all (even at stock), also got no coil whine. Overall, great card and very happy about the purchase!
That's amazing! Thanks for sharing your thermal details and the recommendation to undervolt. That's incredible how much lower the hot spot temps are. I'll have to give it a try.

For me, I purchased it (not here yet) due to the fact that it is the only 4080 it will fit in a micro ITX case. I have one of those for my living room PC and this will become a hand of me down when I upgrade it. For now the living room one has a 4070 TI super. Had I known this card would have fit I would have purchased it in the first place lol. Oh well, 4070 TI supervised plenty fast enough for 4K and considering the fact that doesn't seem to be any negative impact on performance I'm okay with this for my main rig for now.
I used a ProArt 4070 Ti as my main GPU for six months.. it worked perfectly for my casual gaming (Diablo IV). You can also see my full review on that card here: ruclips.net/video/XVB718HgEHM/видео.html
I wanted to buy this specific model but ended up with a 4070ti super at launch instead because I couldn't find one at a reasonable price. Now this proart model is on sale for 50€ under MSRP plus a 90€ rebate and I'm very tempted to upgrade even though it's just ~18% stronger
Personally, I wouldn't upgrade unless you absolutely need to. I was using a ProArt 4070 Ti for about 6 months before I sold it in a build. It worked really well for all of my 1440p gaming with most high end games averaging 100fps. If you want 4K gaming, or more FPS, then upgrade, but given the 18% increase, you'll probably pay more than 18% to upgrade. Let me know what you decide.
@@JohnLCharette it's ultimately a minor upgrade, but I did also upgrade from 1440p to 4k in the meantime so the bump is more meaningful than it would be at 1440p. Giving myself maximun FOMO, the 50-series is not far away anyway so that is the rational part saying no for me.
Mines arriving the end of October, ill be putting it into a Coolermaster NR200, it looks like i could fit two slim fans in the bottom to help cool the GPU, ill be using it mainly for 4k gaming, but i also mess around with a bit of Blender 3d as a hobby.
Sounds like a perfect card for that type of build. I went to college for 3D animation, so I always have a soft spot for anyone trying it out. I wish you all the best!
Thing is half the size of the ASUS TUF 4080 Suoer OC. I had to remove a floor panel to make room for it to fit in my Tower 500. Almost sits on top of the PSU. Stays very cool though. Haven't been able to get it to break over 67⁰C at full load playing CP2077 at max settings
Im using this gpu for 2,5+ months and love it but since this is is my first massive gpu I forgot about gpu.brace, installed it today so everything good? 😅
Paid 936 USD today for mine. Looking forward to putting it under stress I’m content creation and desktop AI. Gaming is CIV VI so this card is a little over kill for that 🤣.
Yup, that's the only downside is that temps/noise can get higher/louder given the smaller form factor. Congrats on your first build. What case are you installing it into?
I'm working on an 8-week series on building your first custom computer. I'm done the first four.. but want to make sure I can get the other 4 done before I schedule them. Meanwhile, I may have a few iPhone case reviews happening soon. Is there anything in particular you'd like to see?
I just ordered this on Amazon, I didn't realize it was made for creator content instead of gaming. My question to you is, will I need to do any special trickery to get the gaming drivers to work? I already have the nvidia control panel installed, currently using the 3080 on the drivers from the nvidia app. Will putting the new ProArt 4080 in just pick right up on the current drivers I have or will I need to somehow prevent it from trying to use the creator drivers? Will this mean anything else for gaming? Does it still use DLSS 3.5? Frame generation? etc?
No need to make any changes. If you're already using the Game Ready drivers, it should just pick up the card. You'll continue to get notified for new Game Ready drivers. You'd need to manually switch to the Studio drivers. I had no clue Studio drivers existed until a year ago. This card will work perfectly for gaming, no concerns. And yes, you still get all of the DLSS advantages. There's zero performance difference as it uses the same GPU core. Enjoy your new purchase!
I actually haven't tested denoising in Lightroom with any GPUs. I've done the Puget benchmark for Photoshop and GPUs don't make a huge difference. Not sure if it's the same with Lightroom or not.
@@JohnLCharette 1 minute to denoise à picture with my old i5 7600k and now 40sec with my i7 12700kf. Both tests made with gtx 1080ti. Now id like to dp it faster, because i do weddings shootings. Then i dk if i should buy à 4080s or a 4070s. That s why im looking for infos. 40 sec is too much, d like to reduce to 20 sec max. May the power of rtx help me lol
From my experience with Photoshop and most video editing tools is that they are very CPU intensive. They only leverage the GPU when there are very specific tools that use them. Not sure denoising is one of them.
What speed does the fan speed run at when gaming? Just so i can gauge how cool the 70ish degrees is. If its only 30% then bumping it up to 50% would presumably reduce temps a little bit more. Think my old 4070ti asus tuf ran at around 40% max fan speed and 65ish degrees
The fans spin at 66%'ish under the heaviest loads.. but that will depend on the game. Could you cool it more if you increased the fans even more.. absolutely... but it gets loud. Your TUF card has much better cooling capabilities due to the larger heatsink.
Correct. The one connector goes into the GPU, the other connects to three 8pin PCI-E cables from your power supply. Or, you buy a dedicated 12vhpwr cable that goes from your power supply to your GPU as seen here: ruclips.net/video/IpujnC1lGY4/видео.html
I had been using a ProArt 4070 Ti for 6 months before I sold it in a build. I upgraded to this one for the RUclips ;) I had no issues with my 4070 Ti. It worked great in all my games.
hmm, i clicked your gpu link and got a gigabyte card. Did find the proart but that thing is like $200 more than most all other variants and i'm still not sure what you get for that extra dough.
Sorry about the link. I’ll work on updating those so they go to the correct card. Yeah, I don’t trust some of the retailers on Amazon. For example, on Amazon, the ProArt 4080 Super is $1,899 CAD, whereas I can buy it for $1,499 CAD at my local computer retailer. It shouldn’t be $200 more than other cards. It should be priced identical to the Asus TUF. Search around and you may find one cheaper.
@@JohnLCharette I have one in my shopping cart right now at Newegg. I’ve been debating it for like the last week and then I see your review so I’m strongly thinking about it.
No dual bios, connector faces downwards is awkward to work with. When I got that card I had high hopes, but after receiving and realizing that and also it is loud, not as quiet I hoped for. I end up getting Dual 4070Ti Super virtually the same performance but in even smaller formfactor. Strangely the Asus Dual 4070TiS runs cooler.
Everything you said is correct about this card. If you wanted dual-bios or quieter, Asus has other GPUs that will do that. This is a very simplified card that works well for most. Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it. I have used Asus Dual cards in the past (3070) and it worked really well considering its size.
You're right. The driver set plays more into stability. If you run the Studio Ready drivers on your Asus Strix, it'll be more stable in applications. My point is that most people think it's a workstation card only, but it can be used like any other 4080 Super.
Hi, I have the same videocard and I can't find anyone who produces a compatible water block. Do you know what type of PCB it was produced with? Thank you
There aren't any waterblocks for the ProArt series GPUs, as far as I know. Asus designed the TUF and Strix cards to be waterblock compatible. If you plan on watercooling, I recommend the TUF card instead.
John i have another que, i ordered this GPU and today i'll get it. I saw that there are 2 types of Drivers, Which one should i instal? Ready for game or Studio somehting ^^ ? Thanks btw !!
Very exciting! It's very simple. What's your primary purpose for the GPU? Gaming or workstation apps like the Adobe suite, Davinci Resolve, CAD software? Use the Game-Ready drivers if you're a gamer, use the Studio Ready drivers if you're a workstation user. I use the Studio Ready drivers because I'm a very light gamer, but know that when I do... I haven't had ANY issues using the Studio Ready drivers for games. Most of the time, the Game Ready drivers help with brand new games by fixing small bugs/issues. I'm rarely playing games the day they come out, but if you are.. use those.
@@JohnLCharette Thanks again and always for your reply, and i have 1 more que. They are very similar cards, as far as speed. The difference is the cooling. The Noctua focuses on the best thermals with the quietest fans. The ProArt is much much smaller, but is much loud to keep the thermals at the same temps. What's more important to you? Thermals or design?
I prefer the ProArt 4080 Super myself. I like the design better and it’s smaller. It’s also much louder though during high loads, which doesn’t bother me but if you want a more silent card, the MSI is more quiet. Perform wise, they are the same. Which one are you leaning towards?

Oh well, 4070 TI supervised plenty fast enough for 4K and considering the fact that doesn't seem to be any negative impact on performance I'm okay with this for my main rig for now.
I used a ProArt 4070 Ti as my main GPU for six months.. it worked perfectly for my casual gaming (Diablo IV). You can also see my full review on that card here: ruclips.net/video/XVB718HgEHM/видео.html
@@JohnLCharette couple that with a 5800X3D and you can run Max settings at 4K on any game.
Agreed about the 5000 release. I read yesterday that they may release the 5080 before the 5090, so that may be even more approachable.
@@JohnLCharette Thanks Blender is a lot of fun.
How is the coilwhine?
Zero coil whine! Darn. I forgot to mention that in the video.
Non-existent :)
I also have this card - very quiet , lovely sleek card!
Yeah, those TUF cards are HUGE. I like that Asus has created a comparable size in a much smaller form factor. How do you like that Tower 500 case?
Im using this gpu for 2,5+ months and love it but since this is is my first massive gpu I forgot about gpu.brace, installed it today so everything good? 😅
No worries, your card is okay. Thankfully ProArt are considered smaller cards compared to an Asus TUF or Strix. You're safe.
@@JohnLCharette uff, thanks bro!
🙂 neat looking card, just never try to RMA it with Asus if its a dud
Great looking gpu, the size is great! I'm about to build in a hyte y70 touch with a strix 4080 super oc gpu and a 14900k.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Very nice! That'll be a sick build. Let me know how it goes and post a link to any pictures.
Paid 936 USD today for mine. Looking forward to putting it under stress I’m content creation and desktop AI. Gaming is CIV VI so this card is a little over kill for that 🤣.
Good deal! Yeah, it'll crush Civ VI. Let me know what you think once you've put it through your stress tests.
got mine few days ago, first time build a desktop. amazing card, but temps looks a bit high, on benchtest max got 95c.
Yup, that's the only downside is that temps/noise can get higher/louder given the smaller form factor. Congrats on your first build. What case are you installing it into?
hoping to replace my 3090 with this, will go nice in the kzx1, set to make a portable powerhouse
Very nice! Yes, this would work really well in a KZX1.
@JohnLCharette how come no video in a while?
I'm working on an 8-week series on building your first custom computer. I'm done the first four.. but want to make sure I can get the other 4 done before I schedule them. Meanwhile, I may have a few iPhone case reviews happening soon. Is there anything in particular you'd like to see?
@@JohnLCharette nothing specifically, here for it all 🙂
I just ordered this on Amazon, I didn't realize it was made for creator content instead of gaming.
Nice review ;)
Thank you so much!
@@JohnLCharette and what about this card with lightroom in order to denoise pictures ?is it by farther better than 4070s ?
Will this GPU paired with a Ryzen 7 7700X be good and balanced combo för gaming?
Yes!! Absolutely. That would be an incredible combo for gaming.
@@JohnLCharette Thank you for answer 😊🙏
What speed does the fan speed run at when gaming? Just so i can gauge how cool the 70ish degrees is.
If its only 30% then bumping it up to 50% would presumably reduce temps a little bit more.
Think my old 4070ti asus tuf ran at around 40% max fan speed and 65ish degrees
The fans spin at 66%'ish under the heaviest loads.. but that will depend on the game. Could you cool it more if you increased the fans even more.. absolutely... but it gets loud. Your TUF card has much better cooling capabilities due to the larger heatsink.
The cable in the box has 3 connectors on one end, and one connector on the other?
Correct. The one connector goes into the GPU, the other connects to three 8pin PCI-E cables from your power supply. Or, you buy a dedicated 12vhpwr cable that goes from your power supply to your GPU as seen here: ruclips.net/video/IpujnC1lGY4/видео.html
Rock on!
I really wanted one of these, couldnt afford it. Settled on a 4070ti instead :/
I had been using a ProArt 4070 Ti for 6 months before I sold it in a build. I upgraded to this one for the RUclips ;) I had no issues with my 4070 Ti. It worked great in all my games.
Hey did you also undervolt the card?
I have not, but I hear it's common practice. Are you considering undervolting it?
Yeah i did. so far working great :)
hmm, i clicked your gpu link and got a gigabyte card.
@@JohnLCharette Oh yeah, i am searching :) no worries about that link - just thought to let you know.
nICE REVIEW..THANK YOU :)
Thank you very much! Are you considering buying one?
@@JohnLCharette I have one in my shopping cart right now at Newegg. I’ve been debating it for like the last week and then I see your review so I’m strongly thinking about it.
🤣🤣🤣
How many VRM phases? How many heatpipes and what's the diameter of the heatpipes?
Not sure on the VRM phases. Five heat pipes. I'd roughly guess 1/4" diameter.
i bought one yesterday
Congrats! What case are you putting it into?
13:17 which 4080 doesn‘t work in games and isn‘t stable in applications? I don‘t see the difference except the size and optic to any other 4080 tbh.
Im a gamer and only gamer xD so is this GPU good enough or its the lowest in their rnking system? ^^
It'll work perfectly for a gaming.. nothing to worry about.
@@JohnLCharette thank you John 😇
I got GPU today and i have Corsair RM1000x now im using GTX 1080ti so i know how to plug i mean which cable but when it comes to 4080S i dont know which cable and where, i need help/advice please ^_^ somehow discord or some video ;P
I'm quite confused between the 4080 SUPER Noctua OC Edition and 4080 SUPER ProArt 🙉
They are very similar cards, as far as speed. The difference is the cooling. The Noctua focuses on the best thermals with the quietest fans. The ProArt is much much smaller, but is much loud to keep the thermals at the same temps. What's more important to you? Thermals or design?
@@JohnLCharette I don't have enough room to buy a larger size card
@@JohnLCharette Sorry I'm using google translate
Both Noctua and ProArt are similar size.. the difference is that the Noctua is a bit longer and WAY thicker.
@@JohnLCharette Thank you for your comment +1 sub, have a good day
great video
Hihi. This vs the msi expert? You did both
I prefer the ProArt 4080 Super myself. I like the design better and it’s smaller. It’s also much louder though during high loads, which doesn’t bother me but if you want a more silent card, the MSI is more quiet. Perform wise, they are the same. Which one are you leaning towards?
I just ordered this card. I wonder if it’ll be better than my current 3060ti 😂
Oh yeah, it'll crush it! Congrats. Let me know how you like it.
fuck yea dude i will join the RTX kings next month upgraded CPU first rtx 4080 super is KING
Amazing. I hope you love it as much as I do.
Why this model is cheaper than 4070ti Super, help
Oh wow.. it shouldn't be. I would buy it, if you can find it cheaper than the 4070 Ti Super.
Coilwhine?
Absolutely none. Very silent card until the fans kick in at 50%+
Fix it 2750 MHz by 0.835 V. No high Temps and Fans by 1300 max.
I switched it by my 3080 ti aorus master
Rly, nice, but i burned much money for 3080 ti, since 1680 Eur cost it.
4080 proart super oc 1059 eur.
But i found 4090 too much and now i will wait 7000 gen.
This card is enough for davinci and all others.
Great suggestion on clock speeds and unblocking it. I love mine!
MSI 4080 SLIM X!
Yes! That's a direct competitor to this product. I haven't had one to test it yet. Do you have one?
@@JohnLCharette yup, I can't say exactly which one is bigger, because this 4090 slim is not such a small card, I previously had a zotac 3090 and this 4090 slim x is a much bigger card.
@@JohnLCharette I have a 4090 slim x, it is exactly the same dimensions as a 4080 super slim x (322x136x62mm)
asus pro art is a slightly smaller and more compact card (300 x 120 x 50 mm)
Oh wow. I didn't realize they made a 4090 slim! That's incredible. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the detailed information.
I almost bought this but got the msi 4080super gaming x slim for the better cooler
I haven't tried any of the new MSI slim cards yet. Are you happy with it, so far?
@@JohnLCharette i’m a big Asus fan but this time fully MSI build. I had first the msi 4070 super slim which was a decent card but 12gb vram was just not enough so decided to pull the tiger on the 4080 super slim. It’s a 3 slot card but the cooling super good on it. Barley goes over 65c during 4k gaming
Very nice! I'd love to plan a full MSI build using their new Project Zero components. I'll definitely consider one of those slim cards. The Gaming X Trio is one of my favourite 4000 series cards.
Any cool whine on the MSI card?
@@testchannel66 zero. Also it super quiet.
i got a gigabyte windforce v2
And, do you love it?
Damn...im still using Gtx 1650
I always tell people, only upgrade when you need to. GPUs are so expensive.. there's no point buying something that's overkill. If you can play your games with a GTX 1650, then that's amazing.
My Asus ProArt 4080 Super did not support my 4 monitors, so I returned it.
Did you require two HDMI ports, is that why?
@@JohnLCharette No, I have three monitors and an LG C3 TV, which I also use as a monitor. Unfortunately, it has always only supported a maximum of three screens, even though it recognized all four. I tried many things and even contacted support, but without success. It seems that the bandwidth was not sufficient for (two 2K 165Hz monitors, one 4K 120Hz TV, and one 32:9 5120x1440 240Hz monitor). Therefore, I have stayed with my old RX 7900 XT
Oh wow.. yeah, that does feel like a lot of bandwidth, especially at those resolutions and refresh rates. I would love one of those 5120x1440 240mhz monitors. #baller ;)
Terrible noise from that card. At 30% immediately a scratching sound coming from the bearings
Haha yeah, it can be a bit loud compared to other cards with better cooling. That's what you get when you decrease the footprint.
@@JohnLCharette It's a pity because the card actually looks bad ass. I expected so much better from Asus. I suppose the only card worth looking at is Strix and TUF. However.... even though those have silent fans, I read some reviews that they have super loud coil whine. Cant win with these people lol
I want to sell my PNY 4080S for this
Interesting, I'm curious why you want to switch? They'll perform pretty much the same.
@@JohnLCharette the looks of it…
35% slower than a 4090 it's optimistic
I pulled those numbers from my own actual test data. I've tested and reviewed six 4090s and two 4080 Super's.
