How to LOSE WEIGHT & Keep it Off Eating Plant Based!

- Many people are used to calorie counting, restricting, fasting, and more when it comes to weight loss. On a healthy whole food plant-based diet, you don't need to do any of those things-in fact we do not recommend them. The main concept you need to understand is calorie density. Once you understand that, it will be smooth sailing and the pounds will shed right off!

When I adopted a whole food, plant based, no added SOS diet in June 2021 I resolved that it was the natural evolution of my way of eating and “being” that was going to serve me the rest of my life. I focused on health, not weight loss and, voila, the weight loss came and came rapidly. I have dropped 5 pant sizes and feel and look better than I have for years. Eating this way must become a way of life to which you are dedicated because it works! The proof is in the results!
I've been vegan 5 years but finally transitioning for 6 week to WFPBNO... feeling so much better... thanks for your encouraging...
That's great, we'll done xxx
A day of your favorite easy what I eat in a day please ?
Congrats, this is what I want !
That is amazing Carol, keep up the good work!
Easy way to get variety of beans & grains:
1.Cook up several types of beans (ie: pot each of black, kidney, white or garbanzo). Cool, combine into big bowl, portion into quart bags, freeze flat.
2. Cook up pot each of grain type varieties (I use quinoa, farro, lentils, wild rice, barley), cool & combine. I season with garlic, onion, S&P, cumin & tumeric. Freeze flat in quart bags.
I take one bag each of beans & grains out of freezer to use up in couple days. Add to salads, stir fry, soups, sandwiches, whatever.
How long will it last in the freezer?
What a great idea! I will be doing the same thing! Thanks for sharing! 👍🥗🍚
This is a great way to prep! Thank you for the thorough step by step description:)
Fantastic post - thank you!
Genius. Thank you so much.
"One bite of naughty food..." oh man, that hit home for me. All it takes is one little vegan cookie at family Thanksgiving to send me on a wild rampage that ends 6 months later 😅
thanks for the warning, i can relate
Oh yes this is so true !! Thank you for making me feel like I’m not the only one that does this as my partner just does not understand he is always saying one won’t hurt you well it does as it spirals into an uncontrollable binge .
Agree 100% - I don’t bring anything that triggers me in the house!!
Why torture yourself?
I have lost 70 pounds eating this way since the end of January-IT WORKS! I watch your videos for encouragement and more ideas. THANK U and keep ‘em going!!!! PLEASE!
That's amazing! Keep up the good work!
What was your meal plan like?
As a disabled person who's a wheelchair user, this is the absolute best way to control your. I've been vegan for years, but once I lost my mobility, the weight gain happened so quickly I knew I had to do something. Yes, I exercise, but once I started eating plant based sos, the extra weight fell off effortlessly. Kettle chips!! I understand!!
I'm glad for your success. What are your meals typically like?
I would rather eat a wfpb diet than take medication for chronic illness such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure etc. Thanks for sharing this video Dillon and love 🥰 it.
Perfect!!❤
I totally agree. I don't understand how people can miss the fact that those diseases are caused by poisoning their bodies with "food" products. It just seems to simple to me. Maybe not easy for some, but simple.
I binged for decades (and from childhood) before becoming WFPB 3 years ago, and the bingeing and cravings stopped almost immediately, I also keep my environment very "clean". I remember how desperate I was because of the bingeing, I was deeply depressed and suicidal. It affected all aspects of my life as I was ashamed to be seen and had no confidence, I also had terrible skin as a result of eating the wrong foods. I understand how distressing bingeing can be and how obsessive the cravings can be - I literally daydreamed about food and went to bed dreaming about food (usually sweet and fatty carbs), but I was never satisfied no matter how much I ate. I was afraid of eating a plain potato but I binged on croissants, doughnuts, processed pizza, etc. I would encourage anyone who's watching this video to please try this way of eating even though veganism may say extreme and restrictive at first, it is not, the only thing you will give up is your disordered eating and feelings that there's something wrong with you (there isn't).
GREAT VIDEO!!!! You're always ahead of the "influencers" because you're 400% authentic! I really enjoy these "strategic" videos. Thank you very much!
All I can say is... thank you for making this video. I felt myself slipping just a little, and we all know what a landslide that can turn out to be.
Glad it helped!
Yes I’ve lost weight eating plant based. But right now I need to figure out how to get rid of the belly fat.
I’m going to apply your advice… making a habit of preparing healthy food and focusing on that first. That makes a TON of sense!!!! Thank you!
This all makes so much sense! I am working on transitioning from WFPB to WFPB SOS and it's more challenging than I would have thought. I am totally in your corner with not having anything in the house to tempt me. Moderation is a strange concept to me. If I know it's in the house, I will eat it until it's gone.
Enjoyed your plant rant, and your sensible recommendation that people also connect with their own doctors about their health. Your recipes are very tasty and the way you keep cooking nice food and keep on repeating these ideas has been very useful for me. The message is simple enough once we learn it and try it, but I find these constant reminders so helpful. I'm aware that frequent positive reminders are very useful indeed in sticking to new habits. Thanks for all that you do!
So true about the drugs. Doctor told me I’d be on blood pressure meds the rest of my life. After 24 years, I changed to a WFPB SOFAS-free and then it all fell into place. I’ve lost 70lbs so far, AND I’m off of 3 of my 4 BP meds and I’m having to half the dose of my last one. I’ve also normalized my blood labs. It’s a win-win. I don’t miss the meat and fats.
That's amazing! Keep up the good work!
@@WellYourWorld Thank you. That’s the plan. Still have a lot to learn, but thankful for you and your channel, along with a couple others. Thank you for your content.
You’re channel has really helped me as you are the most realistic and make the approach of WFPB Vegan diet way of eating more sustainable. Appreciate all of the vids. Down 10 pounds and not stopping by following the way.
Exactly what I needed to hear today 😊 Thanks Dillon!
I’m glad you mentioned eating a whole bag of chips. I’m not alone.
Love these type of videos! Very informative! Thank you
Such great advice. And so practical! Love, love the Food Pyramid. Thanks Reebs & Dillon!
Great info as always!
I needed this video!! Thank you so much! It makes so much sense. I have a huge problem with snacking and restrictions and I'm trying to transition from mainly a meat based diet to more of a plant based diet. 🙏
I like your no nonsense approach!
Fantastic information!!! Thank you!!! 😊
I enjoy these rants, a great reminder of the process 🙌🏻👌
Love your rants and thought process. Love your food
Thanks again for the great talk. ❤
Love this thank you for the explanation
Great info. Would be really helpful for a person new to WFPB to listen to daily for a while - or a person coming off a binge.
Such great advice. Thank you!
yep...chips are evil...can't be in the house!
Hi Dillon and Reebs.Thank you for the motivating video. I like the way you promote the process rather than just focusing on the numbers. It's so easy to backslide when looking at weigh loss alone; my goal is to dedicate myself to the long-term health benefits of a WFPB lifestyle rather than obsess over the number on the scale. Sometimes this is easier said than done, but once these healthy habits are formed, they become the new norm and are a whole lot simpler. My husband and I have been vegan for fifteen years, however, we can and will do better with the help of your channel and healthful recipes. I've been struggling with some health issues lately and this was just what I needed for inspiration to take things to the next level. Thanks again!
We NEED this to keep us from going astray. Clear and to the point.
Thanks.😊
I am down to 175. I am 6.2, but I still have some “tire” fat. If I drop my calories even by 100 cal I get hungry.
I love simple foods like, home made lemony houmous with celery, cucumber and carrot sticks
Awesome approach to an issue that has been overcomplicated by many. Thank you!
Your products sure have been helpful!
That crocheted blanket on your chair is quite similar to what my mom always makes for any newborns. I had my blanket until adulthood.
I've come across you before over the past few years. Lately I've been thinking of going vegetarian. But usually it makes me feel overwhelmed. That happens mostly when I go to numerous WFPB websites where I need to make sure I eat this and that in this and that quantity and I just give up. I watched a couple of your videos this past week and thought "how simple, I could do that". Thank you for making ti seem so very simple! And yes ... I love beans, bolotti being my favourite.
Is the oatmeal ( watched that huge bowl you fixed) a good choice for weight loss?
Should I add some greens with each meal?
Focus on the process is the key❤
Love the plantrants. They keep me going.
Excellent video! I was trying to figure out how to balance the different types of calories in each food group for plant based and this just made it easy. Appreciate all the work you've put into to create this content for us.
-Neha D.
thank you this is going to change my life you have explained this so well
🎉❤😮 FANTASTIC as always Dillion🎉❤😮
Thank you for sharing 😮
Thanks for the nice break down.
Beautifully succinct! Great food pyramid graphic.
Amo verte por tu canal, 💘
Your program is brilliant - you provide a great service by providing these videos. I am adapting using a N+1 and N-1 approach - I drop one thing and set that in place, then add or drop another - so within a few months, I am much further along in my program and no catastrophic failures. I wonder if others do the same?
Where did you learn about N+1 and N-1 ? It sounds effective.
Great video!
thank you for this, Dillion!! I believe in time the hypoglycemia I experience will reverse it! Keto was supposed to, yet I think it made it worse!! you both are deeply appreciated!!!
Keto is high fat which causes insulin resistance so that makes sense.
from mrs: great video and message! reebs pyramid is fantastic!!
GREAT RANT!!
Spittin' gold! Preach.
Very sensible💕
Thank you, so appreciate your families consistency! WFPB SOS FREE since July 2020 with your encouragement!
That is wonderful Joni, keep up to good work!
Dillon, I have to say you are so awesome to listen to. ❤ I have been vegan for over 32 years and I have struggled with disordered eating most of my life so I restrict and binge and on and on it goes. I've been on a forever diet trying to lose weight and hate myself most of the time. You make it so understandable and motivational. Thank you for the community you've created and for helping so many of us. You are truly valued😊
What a kind compliment! Thank you
I agree 💯
great video!!
I glad you talked about goals. We stated this way of eating Jan 5th and to date I have lost 16 LBS but then my weight loss put on the breaks. My wife is steady at 2 LBS per week. I keep trying to remind myself just to trust the process. I also add in cycling this week which is my #1 reason for wanting to be healthier.

Great video 👍
Thank you so much Dillon I am 71 and have had problems with binging and your one sentence about forgetting the weight loss and focusing on the journey and healthy eating just made so much sense and I must say I immediately felt a great weight lift off me as I think I have been trying to lose weight for most of my life . When I first went plant based 5 years ago the weight just dropped off me but I’ve let all the bad habits return and ended up heavier than I’ve ever been . I am so grateful for this vlog thank you . I keep thinking I can have some bread for example in the house and I’ll be sensible but it never ends well like you said with the chips - keep your environment 100% clean . Thank you Dillon !!
I am so glad this video was helpful for you. You got this Annie!
@@WellYourWorld thank you x
Lose, not loose 😊
What's good for breakfast besides oats and tofu scramble?
If going through withdrawals and cravings and figuring out how to navigate social situations, and learning an entirely new way to eat and cook is “effortless” then sure - effortless.
It’s not easy, but it DOES work. It also will eventually get easier. That’s what I have to say about that, anyway.
I want to get back to my whole food plant based diet... but I have problems with FODMAPS which are present in legumes and many veggies. Any suggestions?
I love love eating this way. Yes I eat an oops food every now and then, but then I feel so sick, sluggish, and gross inside. Any kind of oil now makes me feel 🤢and extremely tired. Yes sometimes a little makes the food taste better but why not try spices or a sauce instead! Way lower in calories and way better for you too.
I have MS and I can greatly tell the difference between eating a WFPB way of life vs eating junk food, oil, etc. Fatigue is a huge issue for me and vegetables literally make my world go round. Vegan junk food and whatnot will knock me out for the day or more as it's impossible to get any energy from them. I've even experienced fasting for a short period of time and then eating steamed gold potatoes and steamed non starchy veggies (for me it's Costco's bag of frozen broccoli, carrots, cauliflower) plus a sauce. It's amazing how big the difference is and I refuse to live any other way. Love me some golden potatoes and broccoli!!
Will a plant based vegan diet help with hypothyroidism?
I unfortunately live with a man who is a pizzatarian……I am a plantatarian……it’s hard when it’s in the house….
Well said!
Hi Dillon this is a terrific video. I like the charts.
Just one thing though. You meant “deprivation” not “depravity”!
Like the video, definitely gonna keep meat in my diet but prehaps work around with what you have in there too. Eat more watermelon as my main kinda 'snack' food due to low calories and work in stuff like sweet potatoes and rice with bigger meals.
Since switching to a WFPB diet in January, I have lost 20 lbs without counting a single calorie or carbohydrate. If I am hungry, I eat until I am satisfied. Easiest diet I have ever been on and plan staying on the rest of my life!
That's amazing, keep up the good work!!
You said :Depravity (You may want to look up it’s meaning.)
You might have meant: deprivation.
^ Appreciate all that that you and Reebs do.^
Lol I thought I was the only word nerd who noticed 😂
Been vegan for 9 years started off with a raw til 4 and lost weight, and since then it’s been up and down. Oreos are the devil lol. I am going on a wfpb diet which you show here which is the best way of eating. Have to make this a lifestyle. 🌱
Starches and fruits are wonderful carbohydrates but a fruit-based diet will always be better.
I’ve been vegan for 8 years and when I was little my folks were vegan and vegetarian. I’m what you call a potato chip vegan. I’m overweight. I’m 6’8” and I’m 365 LBS my goal weight is 300-310 . I’m a night eater. I also am a procrastinator 😆
#plantrant All good reminders here! Simplify!
On the calorie density pyramid image @5:20 - at the bottom its rice, beans, sweet potato, ???, regular potato. Is that corn?
Yes all starches: potatoes, legumes, whole grains
Hi Dill, I'm a huge fan of yours and recommend your videos to everyone :) I'm a health coach and future physician (I plan on doing WFPB/Lifestyle medicine, like the beloved docs we follow). It would be awesome to set up an interview one of these days when you're free and talk about various topics regarding WFPB Nutrition and health, such as going into some of the science, the day to day practical stuff, the social situations as you mentioned here, etc. Let me know if you're interested and what your best email is to contact you, thank you!
I had a raw vegan chef teach me a few dishes, raw vegan lasagna, pad that with zucchini noodles, kelp noodles, a few desserts that have nuts but largely ive been low calorie density vegan 4 months. Lost 8 lbs. Thats it. Trying to lose 25 total. I could cry. But good video.
This has been my experience also 😢. Lost 13 Lbs in 6 months, now plateaued for 2 months. I'm so sick of thinking about weight loss. Every day, it's on my mind, what a waste of emotional energy. I hope you find what you need.
Ha! I can down a bag of Kettle chips in 10 minutes. Amateur. 🤣 I believe in WFPB and I know it works, but I still fall off the wagon and binge and gain the weight back. Just tired of the yo-yoing and wish I could find a solution for that.
Hello!
Hi Norma!
Where can I get those charts?
These charts are in our free Calorie Density Guide. Click here to download, wellyourworld.com/caloriedensity
Lucky my binge food lately has been popcorn from a local maker. Unfortunately it has salt and coconut oil, but it could be way worse lol 😅
I tried to explain to my kinfolks that if I eat a whole food plant base diet I have to eat more than people who eat Standard American Diet (SAD diet)
I have been enjoying your videos the last couple of days while I research plant-based diets. I agree with your philosophy and food pyramid. Carbs have been made the bad guys. I don't think depravity triggers a binge though. I believe escapism and mental stress are responsible. I had a severe binge disorder in my teens and early twenties that resulted in anemia and malnutrition. It was simply loop thinking and compulsion. Overeating and binges are entirely separate. Binges are complete abandonment of control and are so pressing, so full of self-loathing and extremely dismissive of satiety and body cues. It's true that the removal of certain foods will delay a binge; but in my experience, it will occur nonetheless. I think it is psychological as opposed to physical. I have gone out in snow, sleet and rain to get a forbidden binge item.
Let’s agree that there is more than one thing that can lead to a binge habit. But when it comes to weight loss methods, the thing that leads to binging most often is restricting way too much. It’s built into our psychology.
I’m tired of this spare tire. I want to run and play with my kids.
I'd love to get off my hormone imbalance meds, but I already eat this way sigh. Fml lol I clearly do something wrong
What if you eat lower calorie density foods, but they only fill you up for so long so you eat more because you need more and then you aren’t in a caloric deficit?
Will be tough with very low calorie density foods. You’ll always be in deficit unless you’re eating 15-20 pounds of food a day.
I need tips on how to get to 10% body fat. I am 6.2 and 175 lbs. I need to loose another 10 lbs to be at 10%, but seems like I am stuck.
Eat more vegetables before every meal. It was crowd out the higher calorie dense food
@@mattzilla331 I get hungry. Seems like I cannot find that perfect spot, between hunger and deficit, so I over eat but a good thing is I don’t gain any weight when I over eat on food 600 calories per lb and below.
@ivan11h you're probably right where your body wants to be. Any leaner you will probably just have to get used to getting hungry. If you're not strength training and doing cardio then start.
@@mattzilla331 ok. So the question - if I get leaner by being hungry and doing strength and cardio for a while, will I be able to go back to my regular amount of starch when I loose the last 15 lbs and not gain it back to this current situation. I am 175 but I want ti be 160-165. I have some fat around my mid section I want to lean out of.
@@ivan11h who knows? All calories count. Look up mcdougall maximum weight loss guidelines and see if that helps.
Do you mean "deprivation" instead of "depravity?". Deprivation means depriving yourself. Depravity means... something different... 🧐
"A period of depravity"? I think you mean deprivation.
Thanks for the video. Good content. 👍
Oh boy
LOL@"depravity"!!! Um, I hope you mean deprivation, but carry on 😄
How bodies are pretty good at storing energy for a famine!
I think you mean 'deprivation' - 'depravity' has a far different meaning from the one you intend!
Thrilled I happened upon this channel, I am vegan, and just want some science and simplicity guidance to make the right choices.
You are in the right place!
The scientific world has just learned about insulin resistance in the last five years and now people just use the term like they know how to reverse metabolic diseases. I know many have learned a lot about it but it is extremely complex. I hope the vegan diet can reverse insulin resistance but there is still much to learn
I don’t think it’s that complex for most people. Read Mastering Diabetes, Barbaro and Kambata, or Reversing Diabetes, Dr Neal Barnard. Hard perhaps but not terribly complex.
I don’t know how you could lose weight eating beans, oatmeal and vegetables? There is a lot of carbs in those . Fruit has a lots of carbs to .
This is a tragic and all too common misconception about carbs.
In 6 weeks I haven’t lost and I’m frustrated
Newly plant based (1 week) and I think I'm gaining weight( The nuts i think lol) .I feel good though.
Checkout our video on calorie density here, ruclips.net/video/9tL2urnaFHs/видео.html
Amen. I can't have junk in my house, no sireee.
Eat your naughty brains out😂😂😂…Ive been vegan for over 30 yrs but in the last few years..junk processed vegan food..I need to get back to clean eating again…I want 20pds to go! thanks for a great channel!
I am a fellow kettle chip junkie. Those things are like crack!
