The thing that keeps me on track is my pantry. I go to great effort to make damned sure I have a well-stocked pantry, freezer, canned goods, and refrigerator. Single ingredient foods, bought in bulk. I just ordered a couple hundred pounds (total) of oat groats, quinoa, rice, pasta, lentils, and a few herbs and spices that were missing from my pantry. You just GOTTA have a few ingredients in your shelf-stable pantry, ready to go at all times!

Also cooking a large batch of whole grains to eat throughout the week. I'll be thinking of ordering fast food then remember I have some left-over quinoa I got to eat before it goes bad. Then I just throw whatever WFPB proteins and frozen or fresh veggies I have on hand. I've made WFPB burrito bowls at home so many times. Just throwing stuff together. It doesn't have to be that hard.

I feel very fortunate: vegetarian at age 21, vegan at about 61( 9 years ago) . Never had a challenge with it, love the food and good emotional feels knowing I'm helping alleviate animal suffering. They say it takes about 2 weeks to adjust to a new habit, I think that's about what I found it takes to start to appreciate real foods instead of artificial flavors and preservatives. Hang in there folks!!

This was such a good video thank you so much! I am in a multi generational household, full of SAD eaters so there is a lot of junk here. However, I realized that I am the main grocery purchaser so the last two orders I have eliminated all chips and other highly processed snacks except Cheez-Its and wheat thins just to see if my grown boys would notice. My youngest son has been dealing with terrible constipation and other stomach issues and has been willing to eat more like me lately. The family has had several dinners by the pool that are full of meat, dairy and oil and I go to be with them but don’t eat their food. He has not felt well after these meals so yesterday he told me he wanted a healthy meal specifically with no meat and I was thrilled! Today, my elderly parents asked for a salad and a vegetable tray for their lunch and they normally go to Chick-fil-A every single day for lunch. Their participation comes and goes, but my son has been much more consistent lately so I almost have a food buddy in this house. Progress is progress, right? I am saving this video so I can come back to it when I am struggling to stay on track in this environment. I love well your world so much!

I can't believe the timing of this PlantRant! How did you know? I have had the worst 2 weeks. Completely fallen off my plan for healthy eating and I've been so disappointed in myself that, "oops...I did it again." So this morning I told myself to get it together and thought, "I bet Dillon has a video that can help inspire me to get back on track." and wow, do you ever! Thank you for this boost, just what I needed! Oh, and just want to add, the "Who you gonna call?" part of your t-shirt that showed the entire time was genius. I know the answer on the shirt is Starch Blaster, but in this case, my answer is Dillon and Reebs!

      You got this!

My brother has 5 bags of greasy tortilla chips in the house. As much of a an Alan Goldhamer I am, it takes an awful lot of willpower for me not to eat them. But that's where my pantry comes to the rescue. I have masa (100 pounds of it) and I make fresh tortillas (dash of salt and lime juice) almost every night.

You don't have to start from masa to get healthy chips. Unlike flour tortillas, there are plenty of corn tortillas you can buy that don't have salt or oil. Cut them up or cook them whole like "lazy" Dillon 😂 likes to do and you have chips. Great scoops for "real" food like homemade hummus , homemade pico de gallo, or a reasonable amount of guacamole (I try just to buy single avocados these days rather than Costco bags of them because I'll just eat them all)

If ever I fall off-track again, I hope I will be strong enough (and my home junk-free enough) to get back on track immediately, at the next meal, NOT the following day, because so much harm can be done in just a few hours, a day is too long to wait.
I haven't fallen off-track for almost 4 years because I never buy junk or bring it into the house, and somehow I've learnt never to use food for comfort or celebration. Food is enjoyable, but I've learnt to separate feelings from feeding.
Thank you for explaining so simply and so clearly what the internal audience is.

A great snack when travelling and you have no fridge/cooking facilities are vacuum-packed chestnuts, fat free, low-cal, long-life, delicious starch, often "forgotten" by the WFPB community. I adore chestnuts, if you've never tried them have a look in your local supermarket, they're really yummy and filling, one pack (100g) is around 170 cals and they keep me going till the next meal.

This is a great video and the community is wonderful in case you need support. My only piece of advice would be, try to surround yourself (or watch the videos of) people who HAVE stayed off-track consistently, for years, e.g. Chef AJ. If you surround yourself with supportive people who have fallen off-track once, twice, several times, are still very overweight, etc. that can be detrimental. We can all fall off-track, but it should be a very rare thing or once in a lifetime. Once you have "got" this way of eating and you know what to do, try to surround yourself (digitally and/or in real life) with those who have achieved and maintained a healthy weight without falling off-track again and again. Misery loves company, and when someone is not very successful, it's comforting to seek similar people, but this may not be the best option. Stick to people who have done well and if possible, are way past the falling off-track episodes which are so soul-destroying and could destroy the efforts you have previously made for months or even years. I am so over "falling off-track", I really hope it will never happen again because I remain a food addict and volume eater and if I allowed myself to indulge in trigger foods/cravings, the floodgates would open, so I absolutely abstain from "danger" foods - they are so not worth falling off-track for. And I keep my mind focused on how rubbish I would feel if I gave in to my cravings, because I know the "floodgates would open", so I stay on-track.

That’s good motivation. I make sure I discovered foods that are phenomenal to me and I have a shortlist. Nahi sings practically every day.
Luckily, for sugar, I can get by with bananas and the occasional wheat bread. Taste really good, but I don’t add sugar to it.
My main is very short to cook: pasta in black beans with cayenne pepper black beans from a can. I always make sure I have enough of that.
I think something that helps. is making sure I get all nutrients. To do this I make make sure I get my vegetables and fruits daily even though it can be a chore some days. I found a trick to keep eating the carrots and it’s to put them in the bowl with pasta and black beans so I can sort of dip it in the beans and get the taste also includes a little bit of salt and cayenne pepper. I have suspicion that we are hungry for nutrients. We are missing so if we eat them, we are less hungry overall.

It’s my bday week. I have been hitting the old spots DQ, IHOP, Kryspy Kreme, Costco food court. I’ve been eating clean for 3+ years and no way I am going back, but after eating some of these foods again I can tell you people have no chance. It’s so good the flavor, the taste, the look. I am going to eat something starchy now and will forget about the junk, but those people who don’t know what’s up they don’t cleave any chance, and to make this change there has to be 100% commitment. We can only spread the message and thanks for the community.

Long-life pre-cooked rice and other starches (quinoa, etc.) are available everywhere, I'm sure you can eat them straight from the pack too, but it must have been a difficult situation. Definitely vacuum-packed chestnuts would be an easy staple to stock up on if this ever happens again. Also cans of chickpeas (garbanzo beans), beans, fruit. Oil-free sundried tomatoes and other veggies.

I've only been vegan for 9+ years, but not once have I ever been seriously tempted to stray. Similarly, 42 years ago I quit alcohol with the same outcome. In both instances, I came to realize that only by adhering rigidly to my convictions would I stand a fighting chance of living my best life. Booze was out to kill me, and so were animal based foods. I think if more people realized how truly deadly the standard American diet is, they'd be that much more likely to stay the course.
