For those with doubts, read The Pleasure Trap as Dillon recommends. At some point you have to deal with the emotional pain you are suffering. We humans can attach all kinds of experiences to our behaviours - we are complex beings after all. But having experienced this issue myself, there comes a point where you do have to make conscious choices about what you want to do in your life. It doesn't mean dismissiveness about trauma imo, it means a reality check and deciding on self love. Food shouldn't be the only thing in our lives, nor the only thing we turn to. In other words we do have choices, we really must decide to make this choice, not that choice.
When rats have a rich environment with plenty of friends, they don’t push the cocaine button. Since foods that contain fat, salt, and sugar are addictive, it makes sense you’ll be able to resist if you have a strong social base and enriching hobbies. Turn to things besides food ❤
Dillon, please don’t be discourage by the negative comments. Everyone has things they are dealing with and we just do the best we can. I appreciate that you care to share what is working for you and your family. You have a good heart..keep up the good work.
Thank you for this!!! Many years ago I tried using My Fitness Pal multiple times and it kept telling me to eat 1200 calories a day. Even as a very petite female I was starving and could never get below 1500. I thought there was something wrong with me or I wasn't disciplined enough. Also I'm amazed at how many people swear by intermittent fasting. It does not work for me. I get really hungry and end up with a headache and low energy. The way that I've lost weight recently is adding a green smoothie in for breakfast every day. I also allow myself one snack a day that I 'shouldn't' eat.....like a mini peppermint patty or something. This way I don't feel deprived but don't let myself pig out on junk which I can do without batting an eye. 😅 Anyway, thanks for this awesome, straightforward video!!
I attribute Alan Goldhammer to kickstarting me becoming vegan. I did a 35 day water fast following his advice (Goldhammer DOESNT recommend fasting if your not being medically supervised.) He convinced me to break my fast with a whole plant based diet. Spent two weeks prepping to break the fast. Shortly after I broke the fast I watched cowspiracy. What really turned me vegan was watching Earthlings and Dominion. I’ve never cried more in my life.
AMEN - I eat and need A LOT of food. It makes me feel "bad" when a recipe says "4 servings" and I'm like "Oh no, that is 2 servings in my world." My portions need to be bigger than others and I want to be more grace-filled with myself about that. Thanks!
I don't bring chips into my home because they call my name, and I end up binging. The same with "nice" cream. I gotta make it difficult for myself. Thanks for the plant rants. I love binging on those! ❤ from Canada 🇨🇦
I binge eat due to boredom. Best resolution for me is to get away from home and walk for hours on end. It keeps me fit and helps with weight control so that when I get home, I can eat more lovely potatoes and beans.
Due to a viral attack just after surgery many years ago I have been left with 'nerve damage' (The consultant likened it to some one cutting through a wiring loom then getting the ends and holding them together but shakily). I get random pains etc 24/7 (very sharp, level8-10). What I also get with regards to food is that once I start eating, I find it very difficult to stop (knowing when I am full as the signals to my brain don't work sometimes) I can literally eat until I am sick. I don't want to and stop myself. Trouble is my body still feels very hungry (even if I have just eaten) Hungry as in stomach cramps, pain, dizziness, stomach 'growling' etc. This I have found very hard to sort out. I generally eat WFPB (90% of the time) but tbh it's not what I eat, it's eating generally. I tried just eating very low density food but as has been said you wont bing eat on peppers, yet I would still have this problem of not being satiated.
Thank you, Dillon. Fantastic video. You really broke it down for me. I need to stop kicking myself for turning to rich foods for comfort. I need to plan better and have healthy options available to avoid binging. I've been looking for a good shrink, but maybe I need to just have healthy foods available to myself and stop over-limiting my daily foods. I'll try. Thanks!!!
Excellent advice. Thank you ...Trying to come back to Whole Foods plant based. Not for weight loss but for my health. So many foods I can’t eat because of an autoimmune arthritis disease. I’m praying that my body will allow me to eat beans they used to get me into a lot of pain. I love beans and rice but will hold off temporarily...great channel . Thank you sooo much . Too many RUclips vids and FB pages on keto, carnivore low carb no care ... seem WFPB isn’t very popular anymore .... but like me I think they’ll come back to this Woe.
Hey Dillon, your timing is excellent. Thanks for making this video! I've been following a vegan lifestyle since July and going into about a 1200-calorie deficit daily. Unfortunately, I hit a plateau and ended up binging these past few weeks. I have learned to give myself grace and continue to move forward healthily. Now I am starting to see a healthy weekly loss.
Our bodies like to expend less energy with anything. (I.e. eating a bag of kettle chips, buying clothes rather than making them, earning money from sedentary efforts as opposed to digging ditches, etc.) But life is hard, and nothing is easy. Everything you say makes total sense. Keep up the great work. I need your plant rants!
You make learning about Vegan fun. ❤ thank you! I like to watch on of your videos to start my day to remind myself that I'm not alone in trying to be healthy.
This was such a valuable video. Definitely puts binging and the reasons for it in perspective!! Thanks WYW for always helping me to take the high road! I love this group and your amazing videos!!!
We binge because the combination of fat and sugar in foods is very addictive. We binge because of emotional reasons and trying to cope using food. We binge because we undereat and so we're reactive binging. I'm speaking as a longtime ED sufferer who's 6+ years vegan. I'm now in a restrictive phase, so no binging. There's more reasons than one for binging, and it's much more complicated than just the composition of the food.❤️
@@WellYourWorld my friends ask how I’m losing so much weight then when I tell them they just look at me and laugh and say “aww that’s nice” 😄. Don’t care, I’m happy as can be and I feel WONDERFUL!
Just finished scrubbing my kitchen floor. While I was down on my hands and knees I thought how I would love if WYW did a talk on bingeing. Sat down for a break and this was first up on my phone. Thanks, I needed this.
For me, it’s nut butter. I am plant-based and gluten free and trying to go easy on salt, and Lordy I suddenly find myself eating any fruit or veg under the sun with sun butter or almond or peanut butter… globs of it. And then I feel grooooss. So trying your advice and making a plan for lunch when I am wanting that calorie hit. I’ll have prepped items that feel less stingy and more satisfying. Thank you for the awesome Ted talk!!❤️🔥❤️
Thank you for this. I’d hit a plateau and so I started logging my calories. I’d been losing consistently two months and feeling great and then as soon as I started logging my calories at 1200 I binged! I feel dumb for falling for that recommendation but when I see “calories matter” videos I just felt at a loss for what to do. I’m going to stay the course and just really focus on good healthy habits
Thank you for your no nonsense, common sense approach. I’ve tried the low fat vegan way of eating (a la Chef AJ) more than once. I just can’t do it. I feel so much better eating some nuts and seeds and avocado.
Thank you for this video Dillon - I have been struggling with this issue- I’m ordering the Pkeasure Trap book - it’s now on my reading list. Please keep making these vids - I so appreciate your work
The Pleasure Trap is excellent! Also excellent is your two new cookbooks! I just received them in the mail & the first one I'm going to make is the Tofu Sheet Pan Scramble. Yum!
Unfortunately my husband is not WFPB so there is junk in my house. I have been able to avoid anything that is not WFPB but some things trigger me to eat too much such as nuts and whole wheat pasta.
Me too….. and now I’m for weeks in a row back to my healthy diet my body looks for other ways so now I’m cramming and binging on fruits, tofu, way too much potatoes or rice, roasted pumpkin. Until stuffed. It’s so HARD to break this cycle.
Woooppppps you got me with the intermittent fasting thing😳😳😳feel busted but omg you’re right!!! I think I’m doing that thing: eating extra before the window closes! Want to have eaten by 6 pm. Sometimes I delay my breakfast bc they say it’s good to be extra hungry and to extend the fasting window but I get too hungry or the food becomes too important. 😅 7:35
Do you have a video of tips for getting better digestion with the increase of starch/fiber? I’ve been trying for years now to go this direction but I end up in so much bloating pain.
Monday I went for an all-day bicycle ride with a friend. Late afternoon We ate at the local eatery. I was pleased to find a vegetarian sandwich. It was wonderful; avocado, hummus, red onion, fresh tomato, lettuce on whole wheat bread. There was no dairy! How did you know I ate half of the homemade potato chips! 😂😳😊
Love 🥰 this video Dillon and a great T-shirt. Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement to get out of binge eating. Hopefully Dillon & Reebs are having a good week.
Right now I'm watching cooking videos and saying, "Oooo, that looks good," to every one of them, when what I *should* be doing is eating. But there's a cat in my lap so I don't have a choice.
You know it’s interesting you came out with this. This 1200 calorie diet is being pushed again. It was doctors go too for years and it wasn’t sustainable then. However it’s difficult to find the right spot. Someone else put it we’re doing this for health not just weight loss. And we need to understand our weight will fluctuate, just in a general down ward motion. That being said I’m one health fat lady. Old and stubborn after this wfpb life. If I have to get a RD for this it’s gonna work! Doctor is watching.
Don't believe the naturally skinny myth. Before eating wfpb I was skinny, but only because eating SAD food made me feel sick. So much so, that many of my calories came from sugar, so I could avoid eating larger volumes of food. At the time, I thought everyone felt ill when they ate. I erroneously thought that was the feeling of being full. I heard a lot of "I wish I were skinny like you" and "You must have good genes". Well, I guess feeling sick when eating SAD food is a kind of good genes; it's resulted in me eating healthier after all. I did not have crazy strong will power or skinny genes. What I had was pain and malnourishment. So, don't envy those people whom you think can eat anything and stay thin; they can't. That's a fairy tail. Now that I eat wfpb, no oil, and no sugar, I feel great. I love feeling full (maybe a little too much, lol). I love eating. I totally understand the pleasure trap now!
Very helpful. I’m trying to not keep anything unhealthy here, but then last night I drank almost a whole can of coconut milk. I figured there’s way worse things. But I think it was emotional eating. Certainly can’t binge on carrot sticks.
