My child is 10 and struggling with decimals. I never thought to use physical numbers and a decimal point that I could move until I saw you making clay letters. Thank you!

This is so helpful! My entire childhood education consisted of people explaining a concept maybe 1-2x, then shoving school books into my face, and being told to finish so many pages. I hated every second. I distinctively remember math making NO sense in my child brain... I hated it, then I learned to fear it as adults around me became frustrated with my math difficulties. Only just now it clicked! It was too abstract for my brain to enjoy just writing down numbers on paper. I remember the DAY someone brought out pennies to minuis or plus. Then I enjoyed math. When the pennies were taken away, I hated it again. I begged for the pennies. But they always took away the pennies or objects within a few uses because it was "cheating" and I needed to "use my brain instead of my fingers or pennies". I remember hiding my hand under the table, so I could try to count my fingers without anyone seeing. I did this even up into highschool. Getting to devision, multiplication, ect At around 8, I remember a core memory, crying my eyes out how angry my teacher got with me. She had a math book, and hovered over my every number I wrote. I didn’t have the best attitude, and was clearly misrable. I was eventually screamed at for "not being focused enough, and if I were just more focused I'd understand". I ran from the table sobbing, feeling so stupid. From that day on, math genuinely would cause fight/flight in my body. I just didn't get it unless there was a physical representation. If I had that enough, then I was able to move to just using my brain, pen and paper after! Your explanation makes so much sense now. I'm going to do your model with my kids when it's time.

It’s so inconvenient for schools to change their ways. They’d rather run a business than care about innocent kids being tormented by less than capable teachers. I’m glad this message resonated with you. On my last video, people are questioning why I’m sharing these ideas and this is the reason why. Even if a future child benefits from this, my efforts will be well worth it.

These educational concepts your speaking about with such ease are likely foreign to a majority of people who watch these videos that were brought up in a public school setting. As a first time homeschool mom of 4 children (two school age) I have absolutely no idea how to unlearn my public education ways so that I don’t force them upon my children! As we argue to get thru worksheets of multiplication I am too thinking to myself “when do I ever use multiplication as an adult!” (And yes obviously we all use basic multiplication on a daily basis - but I’d argue we never use all the multiplication facts we were forced to learn - and especially not complex division!) I love these homeschool videos!!!!
Thank you. It's true that many will find these ideas foreign and that's my motivation to make more content like this. I have read so many books about productivity for adults, and I notice a pattern- all the groundbreaking ideas are far from what school taught us. Nobel prize winners don't get to that level because they muscled their way through extreme focus, concentration, and discipline(maybe that was only a part of it). They are able to achieve high levels in their fields because of their love for play- playing with chemicals, physics, maths, language, journalism etc. That's all I'm trying to bring into my home education. I am confident this works because of all the good literature I have read on topics like brain development, anthropology, neuroscience, and even many biographies.
Absolutely right! My kiddo plays with building blocks since 1yr old. Now he is six. When he turned 4, i started some math with him. I thought let me introduce addition and all. But to my surprise, he didn't use blocks or fingers or any manipulatives, he just answered 4+5=9. I asked him how did know, and he said he has to do this math while making the block structure. Just like that he uses multiplication n division to build lego planes and all. I was so happy that it saved both of us lots of struggle to learn these basic concepts. 🤪 So .. let the kids play guys. They learn a lot with building blocks and open ended toys or anything available in the household. If needed i would introduce the concept and give him related material, if we have, to him and just leave it there. He does all the process to understand the concept. I think over involvement kills the motivation in my child. Thanks dear. I will definitely apply that time to let him live on his terms for a week. It sounds amazing. ❤❤

I would love to all these things you are saying in your videos. But i get stressed out a lot. I want to learn so much about childhood brain development. And a million other topics. But i dont have time for anything. And i get frustrated and yell at my family when they dont listen to me. Is the solution to live alone? If i cant even handle communication with my own family, how can my kids learn to communicate?
It's challenging to say the least, and I hear you. If you live in a joint family, there are blessings associated with living that way too. Focus on the good stuff and slowly chip away to make progress in a new direction. It will take a while for others to see the benefits. They have never heard of these ways, so give it time. They will respect the work you are putting in. Just learn one topic at a time, there is no rush. Ask for help in areas where you struggle. Communicate your expectations to your family calmly and clearly. If you have specific questions, comment here and I will include answers in my future videos. You're stressed means that you care. Use it in a positive way. You're doing great!

Play is great, so much learning can happen through play. All the best work done by nobel prize winners is done because their spirit of play was still alive. Protect his play.

Mine too. My son learned to count by 10's by playing The Game of Life. He's learning time by asking how much time until he sees his friends.
