Former teacher here. I homeschool. I recommend everyone who can to homeschool. The US has objectively THE WORST education system as well as the most dangerous.
My family has been my biggest critic of my homeschooling journey. Now, almost 5 years later, they are coming around. My child gets a well rounded education 👏
Not everyone will agree with what you do and the decisions that you make for your child. The important thing is that you are confident in your decision and do not allow the opinions of others to deter you from your original plan. Stay strong and have faith. When you are confident in your decisions, people notice that and take note.

This has been really really helpful to this mommy who was ready to quit. I love homeschooling, and my son loves it, but sometimes I get overwhelmed and feel like am failing. Hearing all you said has made me realise we’re actually okay 😅😂 Thank you!❤
We’ve been homeschooling now for a few years for a lot of reasons (dyslexic, ADD, etc). The most important reason, however, is because we can go at her pace. With her dyslexia, reading has been a big challenge for her (one we are pushing through but at a slower pace) so her reading level is behind but her math and science work is nearly two grades ahead because she loves those subjects. People ask all the time what grade she is in and we tell them honestly that we don’t follow standard pacing - if she’s interested in it and understands it, we let her move faster.
With your daughter dealing with dyslexia, she may pick up Hebrew relatively easier when she gets to studying language as it’s done from right to left instead of left to right.
Yea, same with my kiddo .. she’s technically in 4th but we say 4th thru 6th 😂😂 we went super slow in the beginning and then momentum started to propel her.. whenever she gets stuck, we slow down. Wouldn’t change a thing, even if she was behind .. I have faith that eventually she would have caught up bc the most important part is that she has a good foundation and sometimes that takes a little longer to build!🧱👷♀️
I use to say "We don't do grade levels" or something like that. Now I just say whatever grade fits their age. Most people are making small talk or trying to relate to the child--- they can't fully comprehend the no grade thing. I now try to leave the educational philosophies for more appropriate times. 😅 Most people don't not need to know that much about my family, my child, or me. Most family just avoid asking any homeschooling questions in general.

21 caveat- If 2 hours is not enough time for your ADHD family with multiple ages and grades, thats ok. We're at about 6 hours with all of our breaks and it feels much better than trying to rush to get done in 2-3 hours.
I'm considering homeschooling for 1 year, to catch my kid up, the school isn't doing anything to help me help him. I know its gonna be a struggle I refuse to let him continue to fall. He come home and I have to spend hours helping him understand his school work, I might as well homeschool.
I decided to do this because of this reason too, they were behind since COVID it seems. My children have been homeschooling for 1 month and they are already reading, writing, and doing math at least a grade higher than they were. Not sure what was the issue with the school. After this school year I was considering to put them back in public school, I'm sure they will be ahead. I'm not sure yet.
I appreciate this video as a homeschool mama. These points are some things that I had to realize over time and I felt like a failure but I kept pressing on and we are still going strong.
Thanks for making this video. I had my first child this year in January and my husband and I are strongly considering homeschooling when it's time for her to begin schooling. I'm trying to start researching what it will look like now, and figure out basic fundamentals of homeschooling to start basing a plan off of. Wow! I just LOVED everything you had to say! We’re in our 7th year of homeschooling, and every point you made was either a great reminder, a totally confirmation of what I already thought, or something I hadn’t actually thought of yet. Yes, every year/ season is different. Yes, it definitely takes a few years to get a good feel of things. Even after 7 years I still feel like I’m figuring things out and learning new things. I think that goes back to the changing seasons (new ages/ grades, new family members, etc). But keep on, everyone! This is a good thing ☺️

Wow i really appreciate this video. Just about to start homeschooling and this was one of THE BEST advice videos i have come across so far. Thanks for your honesty and transparency. I love your homeschooling videos and you are awesome!
Homeschooling is not for everyone. It's ok to admit if something just isn't working. But particularly since it is a more individualized approach may take a little time to figure out what works best for your kid(s). I'm higher IQ than my nephew (and had some other advantages he doesn't) and had to work to adjust my expectations to what he can do rather than what I could do at the same age.
I needed to hear it is hard for everyone. I keep reminding myself I’m in it for the long haul, but I just started and am already questioning whether we can do it until my kids graduate high school.
We also just started and it’s hard! If I even think about high school, I want to quit. Gotta take it day by day. We can do this! It will be so worth it
Often by the high school years, your children will be now independent in some areas of their education. A rhythm and expectations have been established over the years, and they will often Gasolina lead themselves through the subjects that are easier for or more interesting to them.
It makes my blood boil and I never know how to respond because I don't want ppl think I'm overreacting lool I just feel it's horrible on kids tbh, I don't even do that do school children because I don't know what they're learning!!
The reason I don't homeschool is because I don't have time to do it full time the way I want to but I applaud any parent who's homeschooling their child who has the ability to do so I still partly homeschool my children and that I give my children assignments and I monitor their progress beyond what they do in school.
May be necessary depending on the school, but be careful of burn out. Kids do need down time, and you may want to spend home time exploring/learning things school doesn't cover.
Try this tip to help lessen school burn out. Instead of administering formal assignments and worksheets at home, which they get at school, you can do weekend field trips, play educational board games as a family, complete book reading challenges with rewards, take trips to your community library (there’s always activities going on), do science experiments, have fun with educational manipulatives, watch documentaries or movie versions of books read, etc. This will take stress off of you when it comes to planning and allow your children to learn in a less formal and relaxed environment. Hope this helps 😊.
My daughter attends a Montessori school where she has hands-on learning with materials I could not afford at home, such as, manipulatives, outdoor gardening and life skills. Therefore, we do more worksheets on curriculum and online learning at home since she doesn't have much at school. Try Montessori so you are not teaching a redundant learning style at home. Or do more Montessori-style learning at home if they are in a traditional school. ❤
Thank you so so much for making this video. I know that homeschooling is the right choice for my children becuase they're thriving, but my God it's hard. I started a year ago while nursing a newborn and trying to start a business, and it was a whole baptism of fire (and that's coming from me who was a high-school teacher for nearly a decade!). It really helps to hear all of this, because I spend a lot of time beating myself up over not being perfect (side-effect of being a teacher in the uk) and not having enough hours in the day! I homeschool and have gotten my first two kids into college with scholarships. They do not have the same set of skills and abilities I had going into college, and that has sometimes scared me, but we have cultivated their own unique set of talents, and I have learned to trust the process.
How is a parent able to home school a high school student? A single individual that understands calculus, biology, chemistry, history, English literature, etc. well enough to teach all of these subjects seems very rare. What are the suggestions for home schooling high school level students? Khan Academy?
We outsource biology to a biologist, geometry to a math teacher, literature has been outsourced, basically there are plenty of teachers who are experts in their field that homeschoolers use.
Curriculum...tutors...college classes...you don't have to know everything. At a high school age they should be able to read and learn it themselves or with the help of a tutor if need be. It certainly helps though if the parent is involved enough to help the child find answers to what they may be struggling with. There are tons of resources out there especially in this age of technology.
I admit I used to believe in the misconceptions of homeschooling and even thought it was the worst thing for a child education until now. I've begun to realise, after actually looking into it, that it's got so many benefits. I'm now considering doing this when I have kids of my own. I want my kids to be happy, well rounded, and confident

Amazon has many workbooks for all grades. Just depends on your preference and children style of learning. I have used several different ones when I started homeschooling some of my top are...Evan-Moor fundamentals workbooks, Handwriting without tears, school zone, Brain Quest, Carson Dellosa. They all have many types of books.
Reading list of the books they have read, and trips, workbooks, social activities, subjects learned, art projects, online classes on subjects you can't teach, nature learning, biology, physics, cooking, language lessons, library trips. I feel most school only have the knowledge and capabilities to teach kids who are standard learners, all with an difference in learning style is not allowed to learn the way their brain works but have to learn how the majority of brains learn despite the schools and teachers know that some of the kids have a brain that learns differently. That kills the curiosity, the natural learning, and the self worth of those children in schools. The issue I see is that the school market themselves with quotes, a place for all too learn, a place where difference is valued, a place where all kids can learn and thrive, the including school, but it is lies and just wishful thinking, when it comes to keeping those marketing quotes, they won't and can't because lack of knowledge and not wanting to learn the knowledge required to keep those marketing promises. This is why we consider a different approach as our 1st grade child is already 1-2 grade levels above 1st grade but has to be dragged down to 1st grade standard curriculum, she is a 2E child that is not allowed to learn in school as what she learns she learns very quickly with very few repetitions. We have now had to tell her that in school she can focus on having fun with her friends, and she can learn all she want in her pace and learning style at home, no limits, we support her and makes it possible for her to be her. Since the school won't do anything to support her style of learning, as it is "wrong" according to them, as they don't understand it is possible to learn differently than they teach. Sooner or later we will have to drop school and find a combination of homeschool and online classes to fit her learning style, that is the reality of having 2E kids. I am 2E as well just late discovered, so at least I understand her learning style and brain type so I can support her in learning the way our brains work, and she knows we are not wrong for being different, we are simply just different and that leaves us with different options and possibilities, and our brains works vastly different than most others, so much so they have a small chance of understanding how our brains works, but that is okay. We need to start using eachothers differences for good, instead of being afraid of differences and wanting to fix them to fit into the majority. Economically we really have to set up our live to be able to afford homeschooling and extra online classes. I was a stay at home mum, before she started in school, it was economical challenging with one income and the fast rising cost of food, having an income since she stated in school and some alone time has really been good, but the cost of her not being allowed to be herself and learn in school is not worth the money I earn, not in the long run. We have to make a plan to reduce our bills, but still find money for extra online classes and learning trips and sports. But we will and can make it happen, we just need a plan.
@@clararobinson72 maybe but not for us, every assignment we click on takes us somewhere else asking for more sign ins. It's asking for us to sign on to things we were never asked to sign up for. Why can't they just sign on the school and do the work ?
Family and church members also constantly undermine our choice to homeschool. They automatically go to my kids and ask them why they don’t go or want to go to public school. They tell them they’re missing out on everything. It really irks me. I don’t go to their kids and tell them that they should ask to be homeschooled.
When I removed my daughter from public school a year ago, she was 1.5-2 years behind. Now, she’s only a year behind. I’m the one that helped her improve, but if I ever placed her back, you can bet they would bring up that she’s behind. I teach 1 vs they teach 25-30.
Chores, house upkeep, meals, grocery shopping. I cannot manage to do it all. I would have to hire help with money we don’t have. I would love to know what other households do.
Pick and choose what you *need* done day by day has been our answer. And incorporating home care/chores as part of their home schooling activities. Already starting with my 2 year old. Been a big help just getting her to keep her toys in one room, wipe messes/her hands, and throwing dirty clothes in the washer. She's building a lot of skills.
I only have 1 child that is school age right now. We start at 830 and the latest we will go is 1130. Sometimes we finish early, and sometimes we don't get it all done that day but regardless we stop at 1130. That includes a few outdoor time breaks. After that we eat lunch and do chores. Nice chores are done she has the rest of the day for free time. I'm not totally sure how I will do it when the other kids get to school age but for now this is what we do.
What I do is set times homeschool must be done by, and times when I work on chores, and times when I work on my own projects. During Ty one times I try really hard to only focus on that thing. I might not got Everything done on one day but eventually it all gets done!

Akeeba Maze, love, hugs, and blessings to you all. God bless you, my Sister Akeeba Maze and your families too. ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️🥰

Thank you Thank you Thank you for this! I needed to hear every point!
Would you please share more about the anchor charts you mentioned and how you use them in your homeschool?😊
We outsource biology to a biologist, geometry to a math teacher, literature has been outsourced, basically there are plenty of teachers who are experts in their field that homeschoolers use.
many teachers are quitting their jobs and switching to only teaching at co-ops or 1 on 1 with homeschoolers.
It definitely took a couple of years 😂. Thankfully I got it now. 😂
Start before youre ready!!!!!!
I’ve been so happy watching your channel since I have found you, I honestly love your guidance. Do you have a video on how to teach your 5 year old with adhd to read?
I need help with #34 😜 I'm always buying curriculum without a plan. Big mistake.
Thanks for the tips! Great ideas. Do you have any videos on how you homeschool in MD (co-ops, activities, where you find outsourced classes) ?
#3 I like Saxon Math hardback books. Great building but hard to find
i LITERAL moved to a state based partially on a past video you posted. I haven't yet experience all the benefits mentioned from that video. I would love for you to elaborated in more details of the resources mentioned. It would be helpful me and my homeschoolers. thx in advance
Omg what a great video. So much good information
❤ ur message!
Good afternoon I enjoy your teaching thanks
It really does take a few years to get adjusted
I miss homeschooling. My 14 year old wanted to experience the local high school.
Please do a village building video! Very interested in what you have to say😊
Workbooks are great when you’re starting the homeschool journey.
Do you do one on one sessions with training parents or giving parents a confident boost ?
Great video. My favorite might be to minimize their clothing. Sometimes it feels like they have more clothing than I do! 😂😂😂
Thanks for sharing this post ❤️😀.
Good information thanks!
Great video, thabks for sharing!
Thank you so much I’m very grateful
Really helpful! Thank you!
Can you help with planning for the year or semester
Great video!
Thank You.
Where can I get some of these workbooks from?
How do you feel about k12 ?? I currently have my kids enrolled but I'm not liking the set up.
Also do you have to report to anyone ? Are you doing your own thing or following a program ?? I'm extremely new to homeschooling
Hi, my nephew is currently an 8th grader and been on K12 since 6th grade, we love it. Sorry it isn’t working for your family.
It's simple.
Interested in this too
@@clararobinson72 maybe but not for us, every assignment we click on takes us somewhere else asking for more sign ins.
Are you ever going back to the classroom
I have been doing home school for 2 years. I sent my child back to the classroom. , the teacher states that she's below grade level. 😢
You can do an independent assessment test
And so are a bunch of other kids that were in public school last year.
Maybe Spectrum workbooks or maybe the teacher can suggest something else for extra help?
When I removed my daughter from public school a year ago, she was 1.5-2 years behind. Now, she’s only a year behind. I’m the one that helped her improve, but if I ever placed her back, you can bet they would bring up that she’s behind. I teach 1 vs they teach 25-30.
Nearly all public school kids are behind too
Is there anyone here in Southern California? I need a homeschool group here.
How do you handle taking care of the house and all chores?
Yes!
#23 and #43 yesss
Just found your channel. Love your humor, enthusiasm and encouragement. Now I want to be your BFF 😊😂❤
Kids will make you think they didn't do anything all year long, lol, been there and heard that.
Thank you
Advice for homeschooling only children? Someone just told me that that my kid isnt going to have any social skills if I take him out of school.
Find a co-op or a wild and free group near you.
Also sports!
The time they socialize with friends is after school and extracurriculars or church groups for kids
Well I went public K-12 and I have no social skills so ….. ymmv 😂😂😂
O the the other Hans, your child may not thrive socially in many of our current formal school settings.
Yes they village video
Meaning have you ever considered teaching at a character school public education is totally wack.
Why when she can teach her own children.
Hey akeeba
I mean all of this is a ya'll (parents) problem.
🤣
