Thank you again for your kind words and welcome to my family with open arms!! ♥️
I am 59 years old in Finland and we have done also this dish even when i was a kid. And i have made it many, many times. Usually this is made here in Finland from leftover potatos from yesterday. If you add egg and some meat, like bacon it is called here in Finland, " Pyttipannu ". Freely translated " Leftover-pan ".
In Germany and Austria a similar dish is known as "Tiroler Groestl". Originally it has been prepared from leftover potatoes ,meat or sausage and onions. It is traditionally served with fried egg and some sort of salad. Quite often herbs and spices like parsley, chives or caraway seeds are used for seasoning (salt and pepper [of course], too).

You ARE young!! ☺️ And I thank you so kindly - I appreciate the foodie love. My dad use to make this when I was younger. Although, I think he added beer to his. Lol But, It was and still is one of my faves! Have you tried it with an over easy egg on top - it definitely takes it up a notch. So good! 😋 Again, thank you for watching. ♥️
Love it. (I can’t do green peppers though. They don’t like me. 🤢) But, love the mushrooms (I might do that next time) And I do add red pepper flakes, but cayenne works good too. Hehe. Gotta have a little heat I say!! 🌶️ 😉 Anyhoo. Thanks for watching, I appreciate you.
Yum. Best cooking smell in the world, sauteing onion and bell peppers. I like these addons, but the recipe would be just great without them. Nice dish Rexy.
Both of my Polish grandmothers used to make this dish. The only thing different is they added cabbage and carrots. Everyone in my house loves it, especially the potatoes and cabbage - we Polacks love our potatoes and cabbage!

This was always one of my favorite meals growing up. There were seven of us and my Mom would make a skillet full of this with one addition. She would take 8 or so eggs and beat them as if to scramble them and pour it over the top after everything was browned and my oh my, it was gone in seconds. The skillet would be so heavy I remember her carrying it over to the table using both hands. I sure miss my Mom and I sure do miss my childhood. I was very lucky. Thank you for posting this. I am going to make it this weekend.
What a breath of fresh air. Real ingredients, fresh vegetables, actual cookware used properly and what looks like a delicious recipe that you've really mastered. Thanks!
Awwww you just made my day. ☺️ Thank you so much for the kind words and foodie love!! I appreciate YOU!!! ♥️ I hope you love this dish as much as I do, it’s one of my faves for sure. Hey.. if you make this, or maybe next time you do, make an over easy egg on top - OOHLALA!!! 😉
Looks delicious- my parents used to make me this dish with added hard boiled egg chunks and i always loved it growing up- (it was a common Slovakian recipe where I was born) ♥️
Ohhh yumm!!! ☺️ I always make over easy eggs on top, the yolk drips on all that goodness and makes it extra yum!! I’ll have to try it your way next time, sounds delicious!! Thank you for watching and bringing the foodie love. ♥️
I think everyone had this as a kid, not even Polish or European, but potatoes sliced with sausage is the world's comfort food, sort of like Mac and cheese, or mashed potatoes
Looks good! I do mine almost the same but with a twist and it may take a little longer but it's worth it. I twice cook my potatoes. I dice them and then boil them for about 8 minutes or until soft but yet, firm. Then I dry them off and brown them. They come out crispy but softer, almost like mashed potatoes on the inside. I also use a couple cloves of fresh garlic and a little bell pepper and some stewed tomatoes (without the juice.) Give it a try sometime, you'll love it!
You can get the same effect by cooking the potatoes covered over a lower heat for longer in the same pan, then once they are the desired 'softness', take off the cover, add a little more oil, then turn up the heat to brown/crisp them.
I used to have a dish just like this (minus the seasonings) when I was a teen in elk hunting camp in the cold mountains of Colorado. We also piled it on top of sliced bread, and poured homemade gravy on top of it. It really hit the spot while we were out there roughing it. I started making it on rare occasions when I returned back home.
OUTSTANDING!! When I've done it, I've added slices of sweet red/green peppers, minced garlic, oregano, with less paprika but do add just a touch of cinnamon or allspice. At times I have wrapped it up in aluminum foil and baked it in the over at about 350° so that all the flavors can blend in very well. Best part of all, since I live alone, there's always plenty of leftovers for tomorrow. And it tastes even better the next day! It's a meal fit for a King!
Great recipe! Just to make sure that the potatoes are fully cooked and ready with the rest of the ingredients, I usually par boil the potatoes for about 5-6 minutes before adding to the pan.Take care!😀👍🏼
Yaaa I was wondering the same thing. No mention of potato's being pre-cooked. She missed a few steps there. But otherwise looks like a good stick to your ribs meal. Looks good to reheat too!! 😀😳
@sfopaladin2661 lmao I didn’t “miss” anything. The potatoes were NOT pre-cooked!!! Thanks for watching, I do appreciate that. Oh and I did mention that in the beginning AND the end! 😉 Maybe watch and listen again!? 🤔 And yes this recipe is definitely one of my faves… definitely worth re-heating as well. ☺️
@Alcapone… Hi.. thank you for watching. I appreciate the food love. Ok so, NO the potatoes were NOT pre-cooked. I mentioned that in the beginning and the end saying, it would take longer to cook the potatoes due to them being raw. I hope you like the recipe. Again, thank you for watching. ♥️
I make mine with onions potatoes and bell peppers and smoked sausage, season with lemon & pepper seasoning. Once it's on the plate I add Louisiana hot sauce. Good eating !
Yummm!!! That’s sounds good, as long as they’re not the green bell peppers - I cannot eat those! 🤢 And I love the lemon and pepper seasoning… I’ll definitely try that one day, sounds good!! 😋 Thank you for watching. ♥️
I love going to the store to pick up a cheap smoked sausage, onion and a potato. Sometimes i'll use leftover tomato sauce and it adds some sauce to to the dish. Love this dish, also a fried egg on top or sometimes with stir fried cabbage.
You really can't beat this old fashioned recipe, it's very economical in these trying times. It's great to see recipes from my childhood being brought back. This meal will get you through the day.
Aww thank you.. I appreciate you!! And you’re so welcome, all my recipes have the measurements & ingredients in my description boxes. That kinda helps - Lol 😂 Thank you for watching! ♥️☺️
Thanks for being realistic with the seasoning. Some just add "a pinch of salt " for the entire pan. Lol! It looks soooo good. Well done, I'll definitely give this recipe a try. 😁
Woohooo!! 🥳 🧂 Thank you so much. I appreciate you and the foodie love. Yeah, I believe seasoning should be layered. Hehe 😉 Hope you try and if so, please let me know. I love hearing back. Again, thank you!! ♥️
Wooooohoooo!!! 🤩🤩🤩 So much fun! Please let me know how it turns out. Love hearing back!!! ♥️ Do you know how to clean and season your cast iron!? If not, I can help!! Sorry, I always ask people. A lot of people don’t, but if you do - YAY!! 🥰 And thank you for watching. I appreciate you!
I make this dish so much I know the ingredients and directions by 💜. But I watch this video every time before I make it to make sure I don’t miss anything because it’s so good every time 😋😋😋😋😋😋
Loving your sausage & tater mix. I have been doing this type of a mix for a long time. I sometimes use my cast iron skillet just like yours as the taste of the cast iron cooking is just fantastic. Most of the time I just use my table top non-stick coated flat top griddle. I don't get that same taste I get when using the cast iron skillet. I usually do the same as you with onions, but also add the tri-colored peppers & mushrooms. This mix is such a big hit when I take along to pot luck dinners & gathers.
Yummm! I love the added mushrooms, I’m definitely going to try that next time. (Which will be soon, as I make this A LOT!! 😋 I don’t do well with peppers, they don’t like me much. 😬 Thank you so much for watching and bringing the foodie love. I appreciate you!! ♥️
I already Love it and haven't even tried it yet. I just cooked some fried potatoes and onions and when I saw you had added some smoke sausage.......Ah yes, I will be adding the sausage next time. 💖👏🏿💖👏🏿💖
My family has made this since I was a kid. We use SPG for seasoning and some Cajun spices to make it a little more nippy. Also use green or red peppers. Good stuff!!
This looks delicious. Your instructions were easy to follow and I liked that your stove top clock was in the background during most of the cooking. Great guide for timing. I'm going to make this with turkey sausages and see how it goes.
This is the base for so many variants… I like to add okra, yellow squash and a dash of cornmeal to make sure you can’t get up after eating! This is the best comfort food
Yummmm!!! Love shallots and garlic. Definitely will try that next time. (I always prefer fresh garlic) ☺️ Thank you for watching and bringing the foodie love. I appreciate you!! ♥️
Awww so sweet… good food and memories! ☺️ Win-win!! Thank you for watching and bringing the foodie love, I appreciate you!! 🥰 (this is one of my faves for sure) Have you tried this dish with an over easy egg on top?? If not, please do. It’s EXTRA yummy!
This looks delicious 😋. My favorite kind of meal ( a one pot meal). I will follow your recipe, but I’ll probably add some red and green peppers 🫑 with this also. I love all things peppers and onions , so I’m sure I’ll love this too. TFS your recipe.
Awww thank YOU for this beautiful comment, I appreciate you!! And thank you for watching. The peppers sound amazing, except the green ones - sorry, they make me very 🤢 BUT love the other colors!! Hehe 🙃 I’m sure the oils from them will just enhance the flavors even more!! 😋 Please let me know what you think, I’m sure you will love it as much as I do, it’s one of my faves!!! ♥️
@@CookingWithRexy, I've found that if I cut up the bell pepper into very small pieces and start cooking them first the taste is more tolerable. The same for onion. When they're about soft I start to add the other ingredients.
I love cooking on cast iron.. That sausage looks amazing in that pan.. That looks so delicious when you added all the ingredients together. Thanks for sharing this recipe..
Joe's BBQ House thank you honey. Yeah. I could cook everything in my cast irons or Dutch oven. Lol. Love them. Love the way food comes out!! Thanks so much for watching. I appreciate it. 👩🏻🍳🦖💗
My mother always made home fries over the weekend for us. I think this recipe was close to hers and I’ll give it a try minus the sausage. Thanks for sharing.
Looking through all the recipes for this dish i find yours the best. Cooking each component individually allows you cook them to your taste, for example I like my onions caremelized. Thank you for a great video abd I will certainly be using it.
Aww thank you so much!!! ☺️ You’re very kind! This is one of my favorite dishes!! My dad would make something similar, and I loved it so much. I just tweaked it here and there through the years!! I also make this with an over easy egg on top - ohhhhh yeah!! 🤤 Please do try it. It takes this already yummy dish over the top! Please let me know if you do and how you like it! Again, thank you for the love! 🥰
Aww lol thank you!!!! You’re too kind, and YESSSS - isn’t this an amazing pan!? I’ll make this with an over easy egg on top, all that ooey gooey yolk running all over it.. ohhhh yeah!! 🤤 Thank you for watching and bringing the foodie love. I appreciate you!! ♥️
Hi Rexy, this skillet looks so good, love the recipe! The combination of sweet and smoky is an absolute winner, love it! And thank you so much for naming my channel on your list of fellow youtubers. Have a great weekend!
OMG! I know I'm late. Just stumbled across your channel. 😊. This looks soooooooo good!!! Love the crispiness of the sausage, and the idea of adding a dab of butter for flavor...amazing!! I can't wait to try this!!! Thanks Rexy!!💛
@Lakshita Awe thank you so much for the love, welcome to my family sweetness!!! ♥️ I know you’re going to love this dish. I actually just made this yesterday, WITH an over easy eggie on top!!! All that gooiness dripping, yum!! (If you like eggs that is) Takes it over, over the top!!!! Super easy, but one of my faves for sure!! 😋 So - depending on your flavor preferences and how much you’re making, add more or less of the seasoning. I always add more!!! Hehe 😉 I hope you enjoy this dish, please let me know. I love hearing back!! 🥰😘
I saw this video and it sounded good so before I even watched it, I went in and got my smoked sausage out of the freezer. This will be my dinner tomorrow. Thank you for sharing the recipe.
Aww thank you so much - I try! ☺️ And thank you for watching, I appreciate you! Please let me know if you make this, it’s ohhh so good!! ♥️ OH and if you really want to kick this up an extra notch, make an over easy egg on top! 🤤
I will be camping this weekend you have gave me a great idea your voice is so soothing while you’re cooking step by step to follow thank you keep on doing
Aww thank you so much. ☺️ You made my day!!! I hope you enjoy this as it’s one of my all time faves!!!!! Lil extra tip, especially if you’re camping. Make over easy eggs on top of each dish. All that ooey gooey egg yolk running all over it. Oooohhhlalalala!! 🤤 Thank you again for watching and bringing me the foodie love. ♥️
Looks good. Going to have to make that tomorrow. I use a pizza pan for my lid. You can rest your spoon on top heat up bread on top because it's flat! I sometimes even put another pan on top to stay warm.
I have a cast iron skillet that has been through generations! My mama gave it to me and said the skillet is "seasoned"! I definitely want to try this dish! I envision it with some hot water cornbread or fried sweet cakes.
Iam Keva OHHH YEAHHHHH!!! That sounds delicious honey. 😋. Thx so much. I love mine as well. Although yours is better form your Momma. 💗. Thx for the love. ☺️
We had one of those in my family. It was supposedly from the late 1800s. Then a young member of the family was trying to do a good thing and clean up after a dinner one night.. and proceeded to scrub it clean with hot soap and water and a brillo pad. Yeah, sad day.

Bacon grease should be it’s own food group - you can do so much with it 😀👩🏻🍳
I shall make this for tomorrow's breakfast in my new cast iron pan
Wooooohoooo!!! 🤩🤩🤩 So much fun! Please let me know how it turns out. Love hearing back!!! ♥️ Do you know how to clean and season your cast iron!? If not, I can help!! Sorry, I always ask people. A lot of people don’t, but if you do - YAY!! 🥰 And thank you for watching. I appreciate you!
That looks so good Rexy. Classic. This would be great on a camping trip.
Jaxx Drinkwater YESSS.. very!! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Looks delicious and yummy I do mine like this to thanks for sharing 👍🏼
I already Love it and haven't even tried it yet. I just cooked some fried potatoes and onions and when I saw you had added some smoke sausage.......Ah yes, I will be adding the sausage next time. 💖👏🏿💖👏🏿💖
Awww thank you so much sweetness!! I appreciate you! ☺️ Can’t wait for you to try it with the sausage, OH SOOOO GOOD!! ♥️
I can actually smell how good that looks. My wife makes and serves this separately. But the taste is still there.
My family has made this since I was a kid. We use SPG for seasoning and some Cajun spices to make it a little more nippy. Also use green or red peppers. Good stuff!!
OK here we go I'm going to try it again. Let's see if it turns out better this time..................😄
Amazing Cast Iron Home Fries recipe, Looks delicious
Indian Street Food (Khana pakana) thank you. 💗
Thanks Mrs. are y for sharing looks delicious !
This looks delicious. Your instructions were easy to follow and I liked that your stove top clock was in the background during most of the cooking. Great guide for timing. I'm going to make this with turkey sausages and see how it goes.
I’m 60yrs old
Been eating that dish since I was a little kid.
I still Love it

This is the base for so many variants… I like to add okra, yellow squash and a dash of cornmeal to make sure you can’t get up after eating! This is the best comfort food

Thanks honey, I’ll keep that in mind. ☺️
Looks delicious!! Personally I’d add some carrots and beans to it !
I love cooking on cast iron.. That sausage looks amazing in that pan.. That looks so delicious when you added all the ingredients together. Thanks for sharing this recipe..

This is BEEYOOTIFUL! 😮

@Lakshita
Awe thank you so much for the love, welcome to my family sweetness!!!
This looks amazing!
Can’t wait to try it out! Also your cast iron is very well maintained & seasoned as nothing is sticking, great job!
Aww thank you so much - I try! ☺️ And thank you for watching, I appreciate you! Please let me know if you make this, it’s ohhh so good!! ♥️ OH and if you really want to kick this up an extra notch, make an over easy egg on top! 🤤

Aww thank you!!! And thanks for the tip. I will definitely use that next time. Thanks for watching. I appreciate you!! ♥️
Oh yeah, that is soul food right there!
RIGHTTTT!!?? It’s one of my faves for sure. 😋 Thank you for watching. I appreciate you and the foodie love. ♥️

Absolutely wonderful. Thats a great start to the day!!!!❤️
I have a cast iron skillet that has been through generations!
😢 Good memories I’m sure!! ♥️
I’ve made this several times. It’s a big hit with my picky kids. I’m making it as I type now. Thanks for sharing this fantastic recipe.
You are amazing. Thank you so much!! 🥰
