I mean the dude only saved 5 points on the safety, ran for a TD to put them way ahead, put them in FG position twice (kicker missed both GW FG's), then threw a dime on a 4th and 13 in OT, another TD the very next play, then the 2 pt conv. to seal it. It's about the results.
I think the always so calm never shows emotions, not that's a bad thing hints the last 5 minutes and OT. Quinns issue comes more along the floating the ball down field, and he has 3 or 4 plays a game where he comes to the line 100% mind made up where he is throwing the ball no matter what. Instead of shit that's not open, check down or throw away. He differently is the only reason they are playing next week.
Maybe so, but in all fairness, we were a minimum of 20 points better than them and should not have been in that situation. I’m going to leave it at that but ASU was a bunch of Texas rejects and Skattebo
Quinn's lack of speed/mobility/athleticism and occasional knack for carelessly flipping late passes out for an easy pick can be maddening, but when he is ON, he is the best pure passer Texas has had in a long, LONG time!! Thank god he had a rabbit in the hat on this play as I was thinking it was 'game over'.
Agree, and it is the 2nd most important throw in TEXAS LONGHORNS FOOTBALL HISTORY. James Street in the Arkansas game to win the National Championship is the Most Important pass in Texas Longhorn Football History.
@Buckeye0103 on 4th and 13... in overtime... and it was led over 2 recievers. You can say it was wide open all you want, but context matters. Ewers has so much pressure on him cause of the media and Arch waiting in the background
Amazing breakdown of the most important play for texas since VY’s “4 & 5”@ rose bowl. People hate on Ewers but he is playing with a torn oblique and injured ankle. When healthy he is still the best QB in this draft. Might not get drafted #1 but an NFL team will take a chance on him and he will continue to proof doubters wrong.
lmao on no planet is he the best qb in the draft. In his 3 seasons at texas he has never ranked higher than 72nd in the country in accuracy over 20 yards downfield. He will fail in the nfl. Argue with me if you want but come back 10 years and tell me I was wrong. You won't.
Quinn is not perfect but he more often than not comes through in the clutch. He needs to be appreciated more by Longhorn nation. Without a running game ot take the pressure off, ASU was able to pressure fr a lot of the game. He saved the season in the Peach Bowl!!!
This is going to be offensive to those who don’t know ball… but Quinn does so many right things that 90% of the people don’t understand. The problem is we magnify every mistake he makes. Yes the INT was a bad throw. But are we not talking about the 11 guys on defense that gave up multiple big plays?? Football is still a team sport just ask Joe Burrow. And you know what, he was money when it mattered most!
I’ve been rough on Quinn this season because it seems like he hasn’t played up to par since the Michigan game, but late in the 4th and overtime periods against ASU he showed up. If he can carry that momentum into the Ohio State game (with the O-line and running game improving)it could get interesting.
But, in all fairness he’s been hurt since the 3rd game. It’s been frustrating to see such talented speed on the outside and unable to get the ball to them.
@@BullSprig you must be clueless. We have Moore, Bolden, Golden, Blue, Wisner, Wingo and Niblett and a couple of freshmen that haven’t played yet.Blue and Wisner are RBs, but they split out wide. Don’t bring a knife to a damn gun fight
@@BullSprig Idk about that. Golden is a speed guy and a deep threat for us as well, he’s a natural kick returner and was a track star down in the Houston area where he played under the Friday night lights. Wingo, our outstanding freshman can fly too. Bolden is another return guy with long speed too, so we have some dudes that can really run and stretch the field. The question is whether or not Quinn can put the ball on them when they win downfield. He has to play like he did late in the Peach Bowl and I’m telling you, we might have some motion in the Cotton Bowl.
Sark has to be better though. Thats been a long term problem and it usually boils down to playcalling problems after they get thru the planned scripted plays. He always falls about with playcalls in the third quarter.
You guys missed one thing. Top of screen Wingo is undefended. Ewers made a great pass, but this illustrates that the defense call on 4th and 13 is just bad.
I been hard on quin and sark's play calling for years lol why does it have to all ways come to this sark. I want old school Texas just run run and shoot.
It interesting how he many times will throw to the receiver double covered and not the guy in the clear. Don’t know if it favorites or just doesn’t see the field well. Throwing mechanics need improvement but that can be over come with some training.
Ewers should definitely be QB3 if he d declares for nfl draft. I think he is a second round draft pick. And cam ward and shedeur sanders are first rounders
That is quite a take. Credit Ewers for targeting is receiver, but let’s be honest, that was a breakdown on the safety. Ewers didn’t have much of anywhere else to go with the ball so what else was he gonna do? I’m not sure that was such a great ball as much as it was a disastrous breakdown on the safety. I still see Quinn as a reasonably good QB…but not spectacular if being honest.
Just saw an angle of this "catch" today that shows it was trapped against the ground - meaning no catch. Should have been game over, ASU wins. Funny how Acho (Texas guy) stops footage in this breakdown just before Golden rolls and traps ball against the ground. ASU got hosed. Texas fans are the most ungracious winners I've ever witnessed. I mean, we were in a conference with USC for decades and Longhorn fans have quickly risen to that level of entitlement in my eyes. That said, we gambled on defense and I give props to Ewers for reading it correctly. But the "catch" should have been reviewed and overturned.
Ewers will be a first round draft pick no matter what !!!! it’s not his fault about the horrendous coaching decisions to purposely lose against Ohio State the other day.
