Hope everyone had a fantastic holiday!! Serious question, how did everyone celebrate?

I had to work on Christmas, but honestly holiday period was awesome and I got a brand new discontinued ESP LTD EX-401 Clockwork Zombie v2 Limited Edition, only 250 made! I guess that evens things out. Opinion on Explorers, Augfish?
Bought my self a new 2017 Gibson SG HP. Love it!
Got me a new ESP Edwards Explorer which turns out to play real good, even better than my E-II
Here's a list of reasons why Flying Vs are great :
1 - They look cool

I am so happy you demo'd the Richie Faulkner signature, Hunter. Easily my most anticipated signature since I'm predominantly an Explorer and Flying V player. High quality playing and fantastic sounds as always.

FYI. Richie switched to these specific models of EMG pickups for the first time untested on tour. He fully trusted EMG to send him what he would like. Also you did not mention the patch cord relocation he had done on his original custom that made it into the final signature model.
Flying Vs are the most comfortable for me for playing sitting down

Epiphone are killing it at the moment. I have the Brent Hinds V. It has brilliant specs , great finish and sounds killer. A few mods , with a bone nut and swapping kill pot and a new Russian paper wax Cap and it slays. I would totally consider this Richie Faulkner as well. Bravo Epiphone, you are making wise choices!
Absolutely love flying-v's. and with the emg's, the floyd rose and that aweseome looking double sided pickguard this one seems like such a good deal for that price range. especially since there really aren't that many v style guitars in the 1000,-€ range with similar specs... only detail I don't like is the priest logo on the headstock... if that were easily removable without damaging the finish underneath I would buy the guitar in an instant :(
Yeah, that's often an issue with signature guitars, however in this case I didn't recognise it as the Priest logo at all :)
Honestly if I hadn't read that was the Priest logo, I would never have known. It's not as recognizable as other band logos IMO, so I didn't mind it so much!
Get the guitar, forget about the logo. If it has the features you want that's all that matters.
I guess I would've probably bought it by now, but a little over a month ago I bought a 1999 gibson flying v '67 reissue in near mint condition, so there isn't really any need for the richie faulkner signature...
It helps if you have a footstool to lift up your left leg just enough to rest the lower wing on that leg, so your playing in a classical position. It makes playing a V while sitting down much easier.
That thing looks and sounds awesome. I can't wait for the new Priest album!

Good review, man. I feel exactly the same. It's a great looking and sounding guitar, but it's a V and has a Floyd.
Kinsman I don't know if there is an official reason as explained by epiphone or Gibson. But the answer is obvious. Gibson evidently don't have much confidence in their product if they need to make the epi LP's look less appealing. Most companies like ESP/prs (where one of the only difference between the EC and eclipse is quality) seem to make efforts to give consumers a cheaper alternative to an expensive model but seem to make an effort emulate it as best it can. While gibson don't seem to bother and wondor why their brand is losing strength in the market and artists are turning away from them.
Epiphone is actually older than Gibson by about 50 years. They used to produce a lot of round-bodied guitars, and the one they use on the LP is similar to the pre-acquisition headstock... it's kind of like a nod to the company's history.
Agufish I prefer the epiphone headstock. I associate the open book headstock with Gibson, and I don't like them as a company anymore

Would have picked this bad boy up but I can't stand active pickups.... so I went with a Gibson. Play a V for a few days/weeks and you'll learn to love the way they feel sitting down. Guarantee it!!
V's are awesome sit down guitars.

I live in Florida and there's a lot of Premier League fans. I have a friend who's a diehard Tottenham fan.
I own one of these. This guitar is a beast! Pickups to die for, quality comparable to any Gibson and for this price point is unbeatable! The Grovers are unnecessary because of the locking nut but a nice touch. The "one wing over the leg" method of playing sitting down is entirely comfortable so don't let that deter you. If you boost your front end you won't need to much or at all because the pickups are hotter than most but still well defined without any brittle tones. I play it through an 800 with the preamp turned down to 8 so you don't even need the gain dimed. Get one, you won't be sorry.

Between this and the Epi Snow Falcon, which did you like better? I know they probably have as many differences as similarities, but I'm looking at getting another V. I'd like to get one of them and stuck between loving the look of the SF and wanting a Floyd for tuning stability. Also, how do they feel resonance-wise (trying to avoid sparking the tonewood wars v.10 billion.0)?
To me, my Epi EX84 feels a little static/"lifeless"/less resonant compared to my blackout edition Gibby (doesn't have the same overtones on certain chords, sounds less "full"/beefy). I'm curious having played both the Faulkner sig. and the Snow Falcon, which you prefer and why, or if you might skip both and buy a used Gibby due to better resonance characteristics.
I don’t personally want a classic Flying V with a floyd. But epiphone is making some truly interesting well built signature models these days. At a very decent price point.
Whatever Gibson may or may not be doing wrong. Epiphone is definitely doing it right

Nice review, but seriously, look into classical guitar playing, and with that I don't mean old school music, I mean real classical music
like Bach, Straußz etc. They play with the guitar between their legs as the basic stance. That stance is really comfortable.
Even though you may not believe it, but people were doing that for hundreds of years with no problems lol.

I think you should check out the Fender Chris Shiflett Tele Deluxe RSG on this channel. It's an interesting guitar, due to it's more modern feel and sound, although it's still a tele.
Still rockin' this beauty. Only down side of this guitar are horrible epiphone branded potentiometer and 3-way switch that buzzes too much. Solid 8.5/10 after 5 years of owning. #rhrf

You should compare this guitar to a gibby SG faded or something :) would be fun to see. (off course the pickups are totes different, but the overall quality of the instrument)
Also, if you hate sitting down with a V, try a Jackson RR. Legend has it Randy wanted a V that looked different and that he could sit down with because he was always studying or teaching.
And I started the 31st doing a good 240 miles in 3 and a half hours including 2 tank stops and 10 minutes at home, from half past midnight till like 3.50 am. So I slept the rest of the day. Other than that we watched movies and ate good food. Whatcha did Hunter?

looks great ... love the simplified controls ... and again suprized again by epiphone being able to use ebony n such vs gibson.
I'm pretty sure it has to do with the import costs of raw ebony from certain countries into Indonesia and China versus directly into the United States. But that's just speculation.
Epiphone makes some really quality instruments now. However, there are way too few Epiphone Firebirds. The Bonamassa one is the only one I can find, and I would prefer to have the option to use a neck pickup.
$1000 for a Indonesian guitar.I think Faulkner is a great successor to KK Downing.In your hands,it sounds good.I still consider Glenn Tipton the Lead Guitarist.And my Holidays were OK. Thanks for asking.

If only Gibson would match Epiphone for features, they would be worth the money? If Epiphone can put an ebony fingerboard on a guitar for that amount of money, why can't Gibson do it on thier customs for the ridiculous amount of money they charge for a custom!
America have a law against using Ebony on their guitars. You'll see Martin acoustics with the Rich Lite shit on them as well. Asian countries don't have the same laws. Good for us i think! Cheaper guitars with awesome specs. I have Ltds, Esps n A Brent Hinds V with Ebony and they are all affordable and play amazingly!

You do a lot of Gibson/Epiphone guitars on this channel and I know you are a big fan of them. But do you plan on testing/reviewing more brands this year?
This is just an opinion. But I think that when you demo the pickups (not in a mix) you should compensate their tone with an amp that helps to hear how they sound. What I mean with this is, for example, 57/66 and the Het Set have a more passive response to them and have a "grain" in the sound. Using a rectifier with that kind of pickup sounds like fried assholes (metalzone), because the recto also has a grain in its distortion. The "best" amp to do this would be a 6505/boogie Mark series since even tho they are high gain, they don't have that grain and their distortion is kinda "clean".

Well, the riffing was great as usual. I think it would be awesome/funny if you would teach your roommate how to play something. You know what's funny, guitar center is a official Epiphone dealer but when I go there and look around they don't have ANY of the Epiphone signature guitars on display. So you can't even try it out to see if you like it. I think you have to order it then they will bring it in. That's rediculous. Anyway, keep it up.
