Thank Goodness this instrument is being preserved for future generations.... My personal thanks to all those people who have spent their time, their money, their talent to care for this NATIONAL treasure..... may this organ entertain, Awe, and bless people with its power, majesty, and beauty forever.... Thank You again to all those who are caring for this beautiful instrument that was nearly lost....
Yeah, I love this thing! And I'm only in my early twenties. Not too much of a fan of the mainstream stuff nowadays ... the more esoteric and older stuff is where it's at! (There are some great modern pieces but they're not mainstream.)
One of the best ciphers I ever heard was as a kid in church. We had a guest organist at the time on Sunday morning. And it stuck open during a hymn. So, Chuck Bridwell looked through the Baptist Hymnal thoroughly and said, "I found it, turn to...., its on the same key."
That was the one I made it. Unfortunately when you fail to plan you plan to fail. Of the extensive planning I did, I wanted to take the tour. I made a tiny mistake. I did not plan for the Jersey train not running from Philly. It evidently won't run until some time in 2019. I was based in Philly for the week. So the day before, I booked the Greyhound. All I could get was a later trip that would get me to AC in time for the recital. If you meet age requirements, Greyhound off loads you under Bally's at their bus terminal. Thankfully, they did offer the mini tour of the console and shop. All of the staff there is really great. The buffet next door at Bally's was also good. I took a Zoom surround recorder and it did rather good.
Yeah, that train was a big problem this year for me. Luckily, I heard about it before I left for Philly and booked a shuttle directly from the airport to my AC hotel and then back a few days later. I'd recommend that to anyone. But if the train had been running...
The 7-manual onstage console is not portable but it was built to be rotated a few degrees in each direction; however, the cables feeding it are too fragile to be moved nowadays. There is a 5-manual portable console which was displayed in the main lobby for many years after renovation workers in the late 90s severed its connections to the organ. But never fear - both consoles will eventually be renovated and the 5-manual will once again be portable, even able to play along with the 7-manual simultaneously.

I love that hymn in the beginning...one of my favorites.

Thanks Michael for recording and posting. Always a treat to hear who is playing what on "the" one of a kind organs in the world.

I would just stand in total awe... Does anyone know if the console is portable, can it be moved to center stage for performances.

I wonder if the big screen projection system on the score board could be used for these presentations on special occasions ?
Stand for the National Anthem. Even if your alone in front of your computer.
