The old venerable city of leiden has at least 10 famous historic organs. I heard most of them at the yearly Leiden Organ Day. But this gem was new to me. Beautiful small church, impressive tall organ case and delicate sound. It immediately reminded me of Händel, and the organs he wrote his concerts for.
A cold but beautiful musical adventure! I really liked the huge Cathedral and its organ, Jonathan's lazy manner at the hotel, the little dog sheltering in the Church, Tom sitting on a giant clog, but it must have been very cold and you guys with your heads uncovered! How cold! These places must be beautiful on sunny days! Thank you for sharing your musical adventures with us! ❤❤🥰
I enjoy so much the tours you take us on to these wonderful venues, Jonathan and Tom. I an seeing places and hearing instruments I will never see in my lifetime. May God bless you both for these wonderful gifts to me!
Thanks for sharing another fun, musical adventure. The beautiful architecture & stained glass windows of Elandstraat Church are breathtaking! The organ is phenomenal, too. Love the Vox Humana in Walloon. Suspect someone might have slid down that banister on occasion. 🤫♟️🕊🗝🚲🚲❤️❤️🎹🎶
I enjoyed your tour of Liden and The Hague! The two pipe organs and churches you played at provided quite a contrast in size and sound! Thank you both for sharing your wonderful experiences with us all! Will Ortiz
Thank you both for this enjoyable Vlog of your travels to Leiden and Den Haag. It was interesting to hear some details of the Steevens /Assendelft and Franssen instruments.
The only thing I liked about going to church as a child were the organs. I loved the look and even more the sound and hearing a proper organist play it. Sometimes even gave me goosebumps. Recently I attended a rehearsel of a friend of mine when she sang Ave Maria in the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe Basiliek (Basilica of Our Lady) in Maastricht. It was awesome.
Never knew the Elandstraat church was so big. Due to insufficient use, 2 Catholic churches in that area, Beeklaan and Elandstraat, are scheduled to close in a few years. They're scheduled monuments, so the buildings will remain, but no longer as churches. I know of at least 1 other church in the same general area that is already in the process of being converted into apartments.
This video is very surprising! Never heard of you guys, I was born in Leiden and live in The Hague, both beautiful cities. And I am very into music! I play the piano and once even played the organ in one of the churches in Leiden, as an amateur I have to add… that was quite an experience I must say. I am now going to follow you, see what else you do ☺️👍
Never heard of the Scott Bros? Only most famous organ channel in the world. I envy you having never listened to the enormous back catalogue of music on their channel
@@epincionthanks for your comment. well, one cannot know everything, i’m glad I found it today! I follow ao the most beautiful singing countertenor/breakdancer! in the world, Jakub Jozef Orlinski, his monteverdi performance is extraordinary! And also the dutch Bach Vereniging, so now I added these two brothers!! Fun to see all the places where they went in The Hague and Leiden! So familiar to me! Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Thank you for taking me along on your wonderful journey-two amazing cities and two incredible organs! Although I was disappointed not to be there, hearing a snippet of the Poco Adagio from the Organ Symphony, a piece to which I have a special personal attachment, in this video helped ease my regret. Thank you so much!!
As I was baking bread in cold New Jersey, USA, I was transported through your vlog to Leiden and The Hague. Thank you! Both organs are majestic. I'd like to hear more of Jonathan's performances in the tour videos, please. Is that possible?
O Jonathan ainda não gravou esta música que ele está tocando no minuto 4:30 que é muito gostosa de se ouvir. Grave ela também. Obrigada por mais este vlog aventureiro. 👍👏🙌🙋♀
I only saw the announcement that you came to The Netherlands on the concert day itself, I really was disappointed that I could not come. Thank you so much for sharing this vlog with us! Next time, I come prepared by keeping an eye out for announcements :)
Great to see you in Leiden, but I totally missed you played here :( Hope you will play the Hooglandse Kerk organ too sometime and hopefully I won't miss it then.
Amazed about the size of the Eland straat Church, never knew there is a church as big as this is! I hope it's future is guaranteed as so many beautiful churches have been withdrawn from service and demolished due to lack of funding and diminishing visitors.
Ah, it's such a pity I missed your concert!!! I was planning on coming to the Leiden one but due to unforeseen circumstances couldn't make it in time. Whenever you are returning to the Netherlands to give a concert, I will certainly be there! Thanks for the nice video!
What a wonderful vlog! Thank you! While the 18th century instrument in Leiden is a historic wonder, I have to say that the organ in Hague blew my mind! So, for that matter, did the church! WOW!
Both concerts were unique, wonderful, great. In Leiden I had trouble finding the entrance to the church. It was the first time in my life that I had to ring the bell to be able to get entrance the concert. The Waalse Kerk is the smallest of the concert churches I have been to so far - really cute. The organ has a wonderfully rich sound. Although it had no interest in Bach that evening, one of the pipes failed during the very first piece. Let's overlook that, with such an old organ this is negligible. But with the modern pieces it was fully involved. It was a real pleasure to hear Tom's compositions live. Tom definitely deserves a place in the list of composers for modern classical music. I hope you compose a few more pieces. The organ keyboard is remarkable, you can hear it clattering all the way to the farthest corner of the church, like an old manual typewriter - even the music doesn't drown it out. The concert in the Elandstraatkerk was special because it was probably the last concert ever in this church. The church is about to be renovated and if things go really badly, apartments will be built there. The Dutch like to do that sort of thing. Or it could become a bookshop with a café or something like that. It would be a shame, the church is huge and beautifully decorated down to the smallest detail. The sound of the organ reminded me a little of the organ in Kevelar. Handel's Passacaglia brought tears to my eyes, the piece was so beautiful. I particularly enjoyed Jonathan's moderation and interlude at both concerts. They were very informative - please keep it up and if possible more of it.💖🤗🤗🤗🤗
That was a very enjoyable Dutch travel vlog!! I think I prefer the romantic organ in the church at The Hague but each had their own interesting characteristics. As always a great video. Thank you both for taking us along. xx
When are you going to tour down under. We have a world class venue in Christchurch New Zealand. Our Town Hall auditorium is one of the top ten acoustic venues in the world. We have a Reiger concert organ which delivers a powerful and clear sound 😂. We'd love to hear you play for us. I really enjoy the content you post online. Regards John.
Noooo, I knew this would happen! You came to Leiden and I missed you. You have to come back soon. We have plenty more amazing organs, including a real English Willis in the Hooglandsekerk. We even have a nice twin spare bedroom that we can put you up in (for nowt), with Dutch pronunciation lessons thrown in. Occasionally the weather is nice too, but generally pretty similar to Middleton: koud.
At 4:09 you have Bach's Prelude and Fugue in F Major 556 in the background. I have been looking out for a video by Jonathan on that for a long time and haven't found it yet! Please send the link or please record it and post. POV: the one in this video sounds a bit too fast.
The "ou" in Du. "koud" is not pronounced as the "oo" in Eng. "roof" but just like the "ou" in "sound" or... "ouch". Btw... have jou tried to get permission for the organ in the St. Bavo at Haarlem? It's famous!
Pigeons, pillows and pipe organs - what more could we want! Another great vlog, thank you. See you in Oldham!

☺👍✌❤Hello Jonathan & Tom 🌹🍁 Thanks & Congratulatinis 🍂🌹💯Absolutely amazing job 🎼🎹🎶✨Enjoyed it 🍫☕
Tom in the wooden shoe was a hoot! Loved the clips, especially the personal touches!

You should play the unique harmonium once in the church of the Dutch Openairmuseum in Arnhem!

Wow, so many wows! I loved that Vox Humana trip into the past! More wows regarding that cathedral!---Wear some earmuffs fellas!
You missed the organ in the Lutheran Church in The Hague. Its one of the most famous of the Netherlands.
Hopefully you can play the organ of the Bavo in Haarlem, that is the one where Mozart played as well, really beautiful
Mozart (as a child), Handel (twice) and Mendelssohn all gave concerts on the Muller in St Bavo
Always a pleasure riding along to see and listen. Thank you!
Thanks for this great video
Greetings from Den Haag (The Hague)
That was lovely, enjoyed it. Loved the MASSIVE church.
Wow wow
Please try the Müller organ in The Great Bavo of Haarlem!
It’s beautiful, Mozart played on it when he was 10 years old.

Thank you for bringing us this. You should come to the Netherlands more often, there are many amazing organs.
Beautiful trip

oh that's so sad about the Elandstraatkerk!
😅love your vlogs; each one is better than the previous ones. Can’t make my choices on one watch though! Thank you both.
Always good to follow your travels especially in the Netherlands.
In flemish, "Waalse" (Wallon in French) designs the southern part of Belgium where French is spoken
That was a very enjoyable Dutch travel vlog!! I think I prefer the romantic organ in the church at The Hague but each had their own interesting characteristics. As always a great video. Thank you both for taking us along. xx
Thank you for sharing another brilliant vlog, the organ at the Hague sounded absolutely spectacular ❤❤
Go to the "Nieuw Kerk" in Groningen.
What would Health & Safety have to say about that staircase? Thanks for taking us along. Cute pup, I hope he had a home. XX
The english word for ‘trap’ derives from the dutch word for stairs, which was basically a trap on it’s own cause it was so steep
@@Marcelpeterbos Interesting, didn't Jonathan fall into such a "trap" a while back? Thanks for the info.
You go down backward on stairs like this. Old houses in the Netherlands often have such steep stairs.
Vielen Dank für den Vlog!
I believe Grotekerk (big church) is pronounced ch-rota kerk with the ch as in loch and koud (cold) as k-aud (as if German)
It was a pleasure to be there in the elandstraat church Den Haag!!
Glad to see the manual bellows. Great video ass always.
Great video greetings from Honduras 🇭🇳
Go to the Luthere kerk in the Haque and to Harlem and the Pieteskerk in Leiden.
Should have come to Groningen. In the province is the highest concentration of 16th/17th century organs .. By Schnitger, Hinsz and others ...
Как интересно !!! Спасибо ❤ !!! Мне все так интересно - улицы , дизайн гостиниц , удивительная музыка ...и вы оба такие интересные в нарядных шарфиках !

Wow - the Elandstraat power test - what a blast! Did the dog enjoy the concert? I suppose he enjoyed a bit of Bach 😆
🎉 Можно мне еще добавить ...

Oh Tom what whimsy 🎹🤣
I am dutch very familiar with the den haag organ I like to know if you ever played in the st bavo organ in haarlem
Fantastic as always! Would still love to have the organ specs included though!
Fun to see you guys in my own country for a change, and not in Germany or France 😅 ow and 'koud' is pronounced more as cow-d. Like the animal 😉

👍👍👍👍👍👍
Too short a vlog. And I do hope you come back to inspect some more organs, like my personal favourite in the Bovenkerk in Kampen.
Will you post both concerts on your YT channel? Both organs sound incredible.
Meantone is fine in certain keys - but ……. !
The organ has an almost Tudor sound!
3:45 Jonathan is playing a piece or he is improvisating?
