    So in the past I always looked at the leg room to ascertain whether I will fit in a car. What I discovered was that it is almost irrelevant. The most important measurement, which is never given for cars, is the distance between the surface of the seat in its lowest position, and the bottom of the steering wheel. That determines whether I can actually fit my thighs under the steering wheel, and accommodate my gut as well.

    • @BScott7220
      @BScott7220 2 года назад +5

      yes - and they also NEVER mention center console intrusion. I'm 6'7" and actually almost never have a problem with what normal-sized people (and most of these reviews) call 'legroom.' Most car seats slide back far enough for my long legs. The real problem areas are inevitably: 1) center console butting up against the knees and 2) not enough thigh support from the seat itself..

    • @Tes7000
      @Tes7000 Год назад

      @@BScott7220 I am car shopping right now, and the center console is *the* issue. I test drove a 2012 Toyota Highlander and a 2015 Honda Pilot -- really loved the Pilot -- but the center console in both made the driver's seat feel boxy to me. Within a few days, I am going to have to decide whether or not I can live with the boxiness of an SUV or if I am going to go with a van, which I really do not want. My top two van choices are the Honda Odyssey and the Toyota Sienna, and both have the center console at hip level, which I think is less intrusive than the typical center console.

      @@Tes7000 Hello, what did you end up getting? I am also considering a Sienna

    • @Tes7000
      @Tes7000 Год назад

      @@queenreina1509 Just this past Friday, I ended up going with a 2010 Honda Pilot. In the week leading up to my purchase, I rode in a 2014 Nissan Altima and 1999 Honda Accord. Both had center consoles, and I actually rode comfortably in the passenger seat of both. The ironic thing is that while the Honda Pilot is considerably bigger than both of those vehicles, the center console is also bigger. I have a shade tree mechanic who does my car work, who kind of specializes in Hondas and said he is not very familiar with working on Lexuses, So I decided to live with the center console. I also like the higher ground clearance and the roomier feel overall of the Pilot.
      However, I test drove a 2009 Lexus RX 350, which features a hip level center console. It is smaller than the Honda Pilot overall, but it is surprisingly spacious inside. So if you are looking for a good alternative to a van that does not have an intrusive center console, a 2009 or earlier Lexus RX 350 might be a good choice.

      Thankyou.
      My best friend is huge and I need to help him find a new vehicle this month.
      His father is filthy rich(Just bought a new Maybach), he buys his daughter a new Porsche cayenne lease every 3 years and he purchases himself a new AMG Mercedes every 3 years. He gives the “old” (lol…sigh) AMG’s to his spoiled grandchildren in Long Island/The Hamptons.
      So the huge reality $$$$ that’s an issue for most people isn’t an issue for him. His budget is like $185 thousand.
      He was talking about a lease. I was thinking that a lease would be a horrible option as he has a huge Airedale terrier, he’s messy and he prematurely wears out seats. Their is no way he’s not gonna cause wear & tear that’s not considered normal on the vehicle.
      He’s gotta be @ least 400+ pounds 5’10”.
      I’m 6’ 200 lbs. with perfect posture and long legs and size 13 feet and get very claustrophobic in many vehicles.
      If I don’t have enough legroom on certain vehicles I freak out a bit.
      Thanks.

      How do I get to heaven? Will my good deeds be measured against my bad deeds? Do I need to be a good person to go to heaven? How do I know if I'm good enough?
      Well the bible says no man is good, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So how do we get to heaven? Answer: By believing on Jesus Christ who took the punishment for our sin on the cross. There are no amount of good works we can do to achieve salvation because salvation is a free gift of God. We need to humble ourselves, realize we are sinners and that we need a savior.
      John 3:16
      For God so loved the world that He gave his only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

    I wish you had people of different body types and builds and showed how each fit into a specific model of car. For instance, start with a Jeep Wrangler. Have someone who is 400+ lbs sit in the front seat. Does the wheel dig into them? Can the seat be adjusted to allow for them to be comfortable? What about the seatbelt? Then let them try the back seat. I'd love to get a visual instead of having to go out and find a vehicle to try out on a car lot. THAT would be helpful!

    I'm a big guy and I can tell you the worst truck I've ever driven for ergonomics and comfort. Number 1 on the list: 2017 GMC Sierra. This truck has a cab chopped down in terms of height within the cab. It's peppered with blind spots and lacks a panoramic kind of view throughout the truck. The seat feels like your sitting in a chair best suited for a 4th grader. The arm rests suck to the point that they are non-existent. Line of sight to view traffic lights is so bad that the truck should be recalled. To compound line of sight issues you can adjust the seat to drop down toward the floor which will obstruct your vision of the road due to the over sized hood. It may not seem that big of a deal driving down the road but if you have to drive off of paved road and onto logging roads you can't see shit. To top all these issues off my work truck is a Z71 which implies "off road". This is the biggest kicker of it all because this truck is not built for work in the least bit. So if your tall and your looking for a truck, buy a FORD F-150 or a Toyota Tundra you cannot go wrong with either!!

    So I am 6'3", 514 pounds and girthy. I had a Lincoln Town car that I bought used online but it turned out I could never drive it. I could only get in it if I was will to just not breathe for the duration of the trip. The steering wheel pressed in to my abdomen so hard I had bruises. And that was with the power seats all the way back. I ended up giving it away. I really need a vehicle with some space between the front of the seat-back and steering wheel. So far, I have been without a vehicle for 3 years because I have not had any success in finding one. I was hoping I would get some good suggestions here. Trucks and SUVs are so dang expensive anymore. I don't want to buy another that I just cannot drive. Without current transportation, I don't really have anyway to just drive around town sitting in various vehicles. I need to target the approach.

    • @Tes7000
      @Tes7000 Год назад

      Did you ever decide on a vehicle?
      I, too, am big guy in a car search, and it has turned into a whole ordeal. I am about 6 ft tall and weigh about 370. My 1999 Lincoln Town Car is sitting dead in my driveway. The car fit me fine, and I liked that it had a center armrest instead of the intrusive center console now found in almost every vehicle.
      I really want an SUV. I test drove a 2012 Toyota Highlander and a 2015 Honda Pilot. Both made me feel boxed in, in the driver seat. I liked everything about the Pilot except for the center console and that boxiness. I would have bought that vehicle that day had it not been for that.
      So that pretty much leaves a pickup truck or a van, but as you mentioned, prices nowadays are outrageous. What would have been a great budget just a couple of years ago now restricts your choices. Looking at cost, reliability, and gas mileage, the only pick up that makes sense for me would is the F-150, but every F-150 in my price range is north of 100,000 miles. Do I really want to buy a 10-year-old Ford with so many miles?
      I am seriously considering a van at this point, though I really do not want one and would prefer an SUV. My preference is to not spend more than $15K, which means a higher mileage vehicle of 100,000 miles or more, which means (to me) a Honda or Toyota. I haven't taken the Honda Odyssey or the Toyota Sienna for a test drive yet, but they both look roomy to me, and both have hip level center consoles, which is exactly what I am looking for.
      Maybe about 6 years ago, Honda started making most of their new vehicles with the lower center console. That's great, but those vehicles are expensive because they are recent models, and I am reading that quite a few late model Hondas are having transmission problems.
      So within a couple of days, I am going to have to make a decision to either live with the center console in the Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander, or I will have to go with the Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna.

      I am surprised the guy in this video did not mention the huge center console in the Silverado he drove in the video. I actually could live with a center console at hip level, but most of them are at armrest level and pretty obtrusive.
      Honda actually makes most of their newer vehicles with a hip level center console (and a separate armrest), but those vehicles are expensive and known to have certain kinds of problems. A 2016 or 2017 Honda Pilot would be ideal for me, but the transmission problems in those vehicles are disqualifying.
      Pretty much, the most comfortable vehicles for bigger drivers are pickups and vans.

  • @CallardAndBowser

    The absolute, and only vehicle that large people can fit and drive comfortably in is a Chrysler Town & Country Minivan or the Dodge Caravan.
    The reason this is so, is because Chrysler made the vehicle big and boxy with tall roofs, the vehicle is wide and the seats are wide too.
    I went a step further and had the dealership remove the center floor console under the dash and remove the map pocket from the driver side door
    for even more spacious leg room. I also slide the center console between the seats all the way back so my legs can splay out to the side without
    interference. There are no SUV's or Trucks that I can fit comfortably in like I can my minivan. Fifteen years ago GM was still making Silverados
    big and boxy with plenty of room, you could get a a 60/40 split bench seat for lots of side leg room. But not anymore.
    Keep an eye out on the new Canoo electric minivan ! It looks to be very big and boxy with lots of side to side and height room. 🤓

      I am 6’4” and 220. Tall, but not especially big/wide. I test drove a Model 3 and sat inside a model Y last month, and would feel very comfortable in either car, as the headroom and legroom were very good. The Model Y has a higher seating position; it would be easier to get up from the Y if that is a concern.

    I don't have a weight problem, but I am tall (6'0"), and basically all of my family on my mother's side has endomorphic genes, which I inherited from them (so I have wide bones, especially in my hips). My grandmother, who was overweight most of her life and was also tall for a woman (her peak height was 5'8") drove a Ford Taurus wagon as her very last car because it was comfortable for her. (Those, of course, got discontinued in 2005) I think if I were to get a big, comfortable vehicle someday, it would be a station wagon too, likely of a Mercedes-Benz E-Class. What are your thoughts on the E-Class?

I'm getting older now and my old tank ( crown vic ) is getting hard to steer, park and get parts for. I tried an SUV but it was too tall for my old rump to crawl into. I felt like I was inside a walnut. I hate trying on cars ( and dealing with the salesmen ) that's why my old one's 22 years old.

    I’m only 6’3 but I have a longer torso, and I don’t get comfortable headroom in the Toyota Land Cruiser. Especially due to the fact that it only has 38.3 inches of headroom in the front seat. I need at least 40in to have sufficient headroom to not always hit my head going over a speed bump. So I’d definitely stay away from that recommendation.

    I think that this is a category that should have been done with an actual guy over 6’ & 300lbs getting in & out of the cars.
    I wish one of the car manufacturers would make a big & tall model. They could have a model that looks exactly the same as one of their normal best selling vehicles & ad 10% more interior room give or take a percentage or two, put larger seats in them, & beef up the suspension. They could call it an “XXL” model, or if it’s Elon musk he could call it the “Model XXX”.
    I also wish that tents, rafts, camping chairs, RV trailers, Motor homes, electric bikes,.. etc etc would also make a big & tall version. Have you ever seen the bathroom on a motor home?😂

    The dimensions sounds good but I can’t fit through most car doors. I can’t get in the front seat of my Dad’s Chevy Impala but I can fit fine in back seat. It also depends on adjustable seats & steering wheel.
    Need to take doors into consideration. It might be roomy inside but getting through the door is the main concern for us bigger people & fitting behind the steering wheel.
    Every person’s body is different & one person may get into a vehicle differently than another person. I have a bad back & can’t tilt my head much to get in. You can’t go by these videos & have to go try different vehicles for yourselves.
    I did alot of research online looking for vehicles for big people for my brother in 2015. I made a list from information like this & most of the vehicles we tried was a no go. I even looked at the center consoles & looked for those that doesn’t go up past the seat so we can hang over. My brother ended up getting a 2014 Honda CRV but needed seatbelt extensions. The center console is where we like it & why we tried it. The only bad thing about the CRV the seats are not comfortable for long rides.
    The smallest car we found that we fit in is a Nissan Versa Note. Even my 6’9” friend fits in it well & I can sit behind him but the Note isn’t very reliable & I know others who regret getting them.
    I drive a 2001 Chevy Malibu & I have to squeeze in. My head rubs on door frame getting in but once I’m in I’m comfortable.
    Information like these are misleading & go try them out for yourselves. It’s funner to go look but don’t let them salesman pressure ya.

    Baloney! The list of recommended vehicles is hog wash. Leg room, head room and "girth" room are misleading because the doorways are very, very important, too, but never addressed. None of these vehicles or SUVs have doorways large enough to accommodate a TALL person of at least 6'4". I know because I have tried all of these cars and I had to almost fold myself up to "squeeze" into them (excluding the Silverado and other large trucks). All of those cars and SUVs listed in this video were not made for tall people. They were made for small people. It is as if manufacturers do not know tall people even exist. You really can't depend on short people making a video about the best vehicles for tall people and they should be ashamed to even try.
