Happy New Year everyone! Thanks for all your support in 2023 and looking forward to 2024!! :)
Yes, seeing the world through a focal length makes wonders for your style in photography. Best thing you can do when you are learning your ways is to grab a prime and stick with it, you will get to the point where you already know how your composition looks like before even looking through your viewfinder/screen. One of the best feelings ever. Great video Mitch!
Love the thoughts you've shared here also the fact though that you're sticking to the lenses you've chosen. It also pushes you to think differently. I know it's not related to the lens choices but I've honestly not taken my camera out as much lately as I wanted to but seeing you go to Newcastle to photograph has inspired me to go out again. Making the effort tomorrow.
Have fun man!
35 and 85 are my favorite and most use.. it's wide enough and enough tele if I need some range. at least for what I shoot and do.
Newcastle is beautiful! You captured their beaches well :)
Happy New Year Mitch and thanks for the inspiration as always!
Cheers dude! Happy New Year!
Beautiful Mitch! Great photos. Great channel. Happy New Year!
Thanks mate! All the best to you in 2024 :)
Happy NewYear, Mitch, and congrats on 120k subs. Fine images, railing w/shadow at 5:23 a fav. IMO, for some, FL comfort zone is what matches naked eye field of view/attention, if that makes sense. For local festivals my go to lens is an 18-50 ml (APS-C) zoom.
No branded cam straps in this one😊.
BTW, did you get a chance to try the Fuji manual focus split image feature I mentioned in prior post comment? (Menu path explained.) Cheers!
Beautiful images - thanks for the video.
Great images and great color on the video as well!
I have the same focal length but different lenses, the fist Gen 35mm f1.4 and the 16mm f2.8
Great video Mitch, awesome images. Completely agree with this. I drew the same conclusion so have ended up with a 21 / 50 combo when I am able to bring others lenses along, and 35 when it’s only one. Super versatile setup that is slightly wider to cover a few use cases I have. I thought I’d spend more time cropping the 21 down to 24, but that hasn’t really been the case. I think you are dead right that focal length is super important in defining your personal style, and in my case I find my eye is shifting towards the 50 as my ‘primary’ lens over the years.
beautiful frames man!
Hey that's cool! 16 and 35 are also my favorite focal lengths.
Mitch, I have been subbed for over a year now and I respect your opinion on photography. For my kit, I use an XT3 and a 23 f2, 35 f2, and 50 f2. I always have the 35 on my and one or the other as a complimentary lens. Therefore, I get why you carry your kit. Nice video and keep it up!
Happy New Year Mitch! All the best for 2024 and beyond. I admire your work, incredible. Definitely my favourite Photographer, Filmmaker and Content Creator.
Happy new year! Thanks so much dude 🙏🏼
33mm is 🤌, Would love to see what the kit lens and 35mm f2 has to offer. Really looking forward to see your videos moving forward in 2024.
The best X-T5 content out there. Keep it up!!!
this place is beautiful!!!!!
In 2022 I did the same with the Fuji 16mm 2.8 and 35mm f2. It worked well for me.
16 was my wide angle documentary lenses and vlog lenses
35 handled my details and portraits.
Ultimately 23mm f2 became my single lens choice when not using multiple lenses.
Hi Mitch!
Lovely content as usual. Long time supporter here and since purchasing your LR preset for my Canon R6 back in 2021 / 2022.
I also have switched systems to Fuji XT5 and was wondering if you be updating / selling preset to support the Fuji XT5 sensor?
Great video Mitch ! 24mm & 50mm definitely is the wave in 2024. Love that you're posting so often again btw , keep it coming
I'm psyched to be posting more!! Thanks bro!
Happy New Year! Had the 16mm 1.4 STELLAR lens. Bulkiness got to me. My combo is 28mm and 50mm focal lengths.
Cheers James - Happy New Year! So far I love it. Yep got a mate who has the 18 (28mm) and he loves it as well.
Hi! Im new here and gonna stay longer. Great tips all over ur videos. Im using Zeiss 55 1.8 and Samyang 24 1.8 due to im using A7C and needed some compact lenses and it works like a bliss. Really recommend it.
Im just started using similar focal lenghts by buying 20-40mm lens, so far I love it.
Happy new year and amazing pics as always! I think your choice is excellent, but me personally would combine the 50mm with a 28mm, since for my personal taste 24mm is often to wide for me (or I’m not used to shooting 24mm yet 😅).
In 2024 I want to shoot film more and will mainly restrict myself to 35mm and to two film stocks - HP5 and Kodak Gold.
For digital I’m not sure yet, where I want to put the focus on yet.
Keep up the great Wort mate, cheers from Germany 😊
Thanks mate! Sounds good - I'm taking a film camera with me everywhere in 2024 too.
Happy new year bro 🎊🎊 amazing video. The videos is also from the xt5 or the zve1? Ooh the color of fuji it’s pure gold 😍😍
So far the video is on the XT5 but I’ve decided to use ZVE1 for video from now on. The ibis on the xt5 is a bit wobbly.
Some months ago I went into the same questions and decided to sell my zoom lenses to switch for only two : the 24 and 50 mm
It's been hard at the beginning but it helped me a lot to progress in my compositions and my way of seeing the world too. I think it helps me being more creative.
The focal lens is indeed really important for photography style, as much as your camera brand I would say.
I loved what you were doing on Sony and I now love what you're doing on Fuji. The new thing really enjoyable is feeling that you seem to be more free and spontaneous in what you shoot.
I might be wrong but on Sony I feel sometimes that I have to "do the perfect shot" and I'm finding myself shoot less.
But isn't it in imperfections that we find beauty?
I should maybe try to create with a Fuji once to see how the feeling is different
Thank you Mitch for sharing your work with us
An inspired French Artist
Thank you so much for the kind words. Yep. 100% - this year is going to be a bit different for me. I'm chasing more feeling and spontaneity in my photography! All the best for 2024!!
Great video and images! Do you use any of fuji's film simulations? Re my fuji set up I usually carry the fuji 18 1.4 and 33 1.4 with my XT-5 (both super lenses). I also have been happy with the Sigma 18-50 when I only want to carry one lens.
Happy new year Mitch and thanks for all your inspiration in 2023. I’m a big fan of your work and love how you combine 24mm and 50mm. The way you use 24mm for portraits is incredible.
Did you ever consider going for a Sigma 35mm f2 to sit with your 65mm when you were shooting Sony?
Have a great 2024! 📸
Not the f2 specifically but I do have the 35mm 1.4
Interesting that you’ve gone with the 16 1.4 (which I use) rather than the newer 18 everyone seems consider THE NEXT GREAT THING. My other lens of choice is the smaller ZEISS Touit.
Hi Mitch, thank you for this video! I was wandering where i can buy that camera strat seen 5:08 thank you so much!
Nice shots, mate. is Helio Gold an in-cam preset or edited in post?
I am using 40mm and 90mm (56mm Sigma on Canon APS-C).
My most used primes are my 35mm and 85mm. Mostly though I just use my 28-70mm F/2 - It's a heavy beast, but it's like having 3 or 4 primes without the hassle of switching lenses so there is less chance of missing a shot.
I would rather deal with the hassle of changing primes than carrying around a lens that weighs over 1100 grams.
@@davidconti_travels I used to do that, but I'm not a weak guy, so it's not really an issue. I used to change between 3 or 4 lenses. Now I have the choice to use one. For a lot of street sessions I only carry the camera as there is no need for a bag, so I save that weight too. Bag and 3-4 lenses vs 1 big lens and no bag objectively takes weight away as a negative point.
Hey man, long time fan of your channel and have learnt heaps about photography! Thank you, also got the XT-5 with a few lenses.
Would love to ask if you have a video about your video settings? My videos are always huge and would love to take more videos without taking up too much room 🫡🫡🫡🫡
And I love using the Sigma 24-70 Zoom as my compact lense, Really good piece of kit
I would suggest shooting a lower bitrate- 50 or 100 mbps for lower file sizes. It shouldn’t impact the quality too much especially if you’re shooting to a film simulation rather than F-Log.
Happy New Year dude ⚡️
Happy New Year Francis!!
I'm the same except I have a 14 to 24mm 2.8 zoom on the wide end and a 50mm prime and I often find myself asking, where's my 35mm and I find it by switching to APSC on the zoom at 24mm albeit I'm not getting the dof of 2.8 but my light value is still 2.8 and that's just great.
That’s why I plan to simply get the xf16-55 f2.8
You shifted to fuji from sony ?
Your video side of things on the Xt-5 as well? Looks gorgeous.
Yes + some on the osmo pocket 3
@@MitchLally flog2? I was wondering how long before you came back to Fuji. I have a A7Iv but I love my. Xh2s.
With this camera 35mm is 35*1.5, right?
I use the 18mm f1.4 and the 33mm f1.4 on my XT5 and if only one lens the Voigtlander 23mm f1.2 (manual)
Sounds very similar - great setup.
😊 yes!!!
Very similar combo. I have both Fujinons 18mm f2 and 35mm f1.4 (28 and 53mm equivalent).
I chose them over the ones you mentioned because they are heavy and big as Full Frame lenses.
Great video Mitch! If you shot that same content using an XH2s with those lenses, edited with Helio Gold do you think we could see any visible differences?
Definitely not
@@MitchLally aperture priority for the stills? Did you use the XT-5 for the video as well? If so what were your settings?
28mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm. That is my ideal lens set up. I have the zooms, I never use them.
so it's 35 & 85mm equivanlent?
Hi Mitch, thanks for a great video and Happy New Year too! I'm a Fuji user as well (X-E4), and have recently rationalised by lens 'stock'. I now have an 18mm F2, 27mm F2.8 and a 35mm F1.4. The 27mm F2.8 is almost a permanent fixture, as it is a new lens with very quick autofocus. The 35mm F1.4 goes with me most times in case I need an extra stop (or two) of light, but my 27mm copes with most situations I find myself in.
I loved the variety of the images you achieved with just two focal lengths.
This would be my ideal lens combo, but Sony apps-c hasn’t gotten a fast and compact 50mm equivalent in like 8 years. Really need them or a 3rd party to fill that gap!
My guess is that most beginners looking for help with lenses would do better with a 28/50 combination. 24-50 leaves a pretty hole. That's OK when you know what your subjects will be but might be a bit frustrating otherwise. Of course the 24 can be cropped to a 28's field of view.
What computer do you use to edit your photos and videos? Love your photos and videos!
I use a 2021 Macbook Pro 14’
@@MitchLally What specs?
if you use your xt-5 for video what film simulation do you use settings etc?
Astia. I did film some stuff on the XT5 for this video but I probably will stick to filming on the ZVE1 for future videos. Not stoked on the autofocus on the XT5 for video.
@@MitchLally Thank you! And fair enough. I'm happy with the x-t5 video wise, but I also shoot way different stuff than you do where there isn't much going on and focus needs to be in one spot most of the time
Your "Helio Gold" present that you mention in this video doesn't seem to be on your website in your Helio preset package?!
It’s in the pack - it was part of the last update - if you already purchased it but didn’t get the update let me know. I’m still in the process of adding example photos to the landing page ☺️
@@MitchLally Oh, amazing! Thanks 🙌🏻😊
24 50 slaps so hard
