This is the song that introduced me to the B-52s. I was in Brazil in 1985 meeting the family of my future wife and this song was getting heavy radio play there. I taped the song off the radio and must have played it 500 times . I sill love this song, the B-52s and my Brazilian wife I have been married to for 32 years. When I hear this song it reminds me of my fist trip tp Brazil and my introduction to the B-52s. It will always be special to me. Eu Adoro B-52s
I was a child in 85, lived in Rio, and I remember this music playing on the radio without stopping. by the way, at that time they only play excellent music on the radio
This song was such a big hit in Brazil that it was exclusively add to the Brazilian edition of the 1998 compilation "Time Capsule". I have the Japanese edition that comes with a DVD but it's a bummer it doesn't have "Legal Tender".
Your story is the best one I've ever read on youtube. Nothing even comes close.
Cindy and Kate's voice together.....absolutely mesmerizing! Always been 1 of my time 5 favorite bands of all time.
@@filthylucreonyoutube 100% just thought that myself
So good
And they were soo sexy
Ricky Helton Wilson would have turned 68 today, born March 19, 1953. Ricky died from AIDS. It's truly sad that so many gifted, talented artist' lost their precious life to this rarely talked about past global epidemic that has claimed 32.7 million beautiful souls. We miss you Ricky.
Amen
He was the first well-known person I remember dying from AIDS. And then it began to happen over and over...
Soon all of us Will stay with him don't worry 😂😂😂👏
@@Edyth_Hedd There was also Klaus Nomi, died in August 1983 at 39. You might not have heard of him before, depending on musical taste. Klaus was a countertenor singer who just started getting attention starting in 1978, and who sang backup vocals to David Bowie on SNL in 1979. He was so early that AIDS was still called "GRID" ("Gay-related Immune Disease" at the time.

I listened to this song constantly as a youngster in a midwest town and felt almost scared to share it with anyone lest they not like it. I watch the video now almost 40 years later and I can still connect to that aspirational, confused kid who felt so energized by this.
Same!
Ditto 💗
Nice to know we had good taste even as youngsters!
Feel the same
Saw them on SON in 79 I think and it changed my life. I was scared to share as well but quickly realized that they were very likable! These guys and REM also made me realize you could be cool and be from the south🎸
❤️ Cindy's eyes!
Yes Cindy definitely does indeed have beautiful eyes!👁️👁️
Betty Davis Eyes! 👀
The 80's weren't another time. They were another world!
The 1960s and 1980s were both weird another time and another world BUT both iconic fantastic both produced GREAT unforgettable music.
Unfortunately don't come back anymore 😢
Best decade ever😊
Maravilhosos.

Hoje ainda escuto e me sinto tão feliz quanto na década 80.Uma maravilhosa semana a to

I've always liked Cindy's smile. She just looks so happy.
She is happy.
I was able to meet them in Deep Alum Dallas and meet and get their autograph and Cindy and Fred were so cool but Kate was rude. Yes Cindy has a beautiful spirit.
Major spank-tro-vision when I was a teen.
I saw them perform at a University. I was hanging out in the hallway and Cindy walked by. She asked where the opening band’s dressing room was. I pointed to the classroom they were in.
Cindy walked in and I heard her say to the opening band, “You guys were really good!”
That convinced me she was a class act.
Cindy always looks like she is getting plowed just off camera
We need a new B-52s album! Fan here since 1978
Even in 2019, this has aged remarkably well! Has the styles of its time, but is still stylish. And it's so unbelievably positive and light hearted, it almost hurts... because this kind of attitude has become very rare these days.
It's true, it is rare I suppose but I truly believe what you focus on is your experience and this band will elevate you to super dance happy every time!
Your comment made my day. I. I'm so glad this song means allot to other people as well. It's so upbeat and relaxing..
Well said
Thank you Tulane University’s WTUL for introducing me to this song! Changed my genre!
Not its time, 20 years before.
I went to college in athens. Ga. 1988. Best time of my life. Thank you B52s and REM.
Love the slight pause between "heavy" and "equipment". True genius!
Eles se apresentaram no 1° ROCK IN RIO 1985! ❤
Love Cindy’s smile and voice. Makes me happy!
love her teeth myself
Sounds as modern today as when I heard it 29 years ago- just a great group that were ahead of its time. Makes you want to get up and DANCE
A lot of new artists are copying the 80's and rightly so, music had a hook back then.
Indeed
I love that this band has such a diverse fanbase, none more devoted than people from South America, Respect!
This song never gets old
This song came on my Pandora station today. I haven’t heard it in at least 36 years and remembered every single lyric. Totally transported me to a time when I was growing up at the beach in Jersey. Amazing.
Dig it!
I couldn't possibly love Kate and Cindy any more 😍
They literally give me goosebumps when they sing together 💘
"Heavy Equipment" never sounded so good in a song!
Cindy Wilson ❤❤❤❤❤
Must be the only song ever to use the phrase Heavy Equipment.
In the basement, no less!!
I can't believe that 5.7 million people have good enough taste to listen to this song.
My faith in humanity is restored. Not really though. Well maybe a little.
Take your faith back because 5.6 million was only me.

This is one of favorite songs of The B 52s . I loved them and use to play them all the time when my boys where little . And now my boys are in their 40s and they love too. 😘
I'm a 49 year old brother from the hood!!! And I had this song on tape listening to this song on my Walkman on my way to Memphis TN, for the summer!!
nowadays people won't even know what a walkman is, let alone tape
Same here! And my name is Darren! 👍🏿
The 80s Love it! No Judgment.

B52's were always a post modern band. Maybe even more relevant now than in their hey day. Genius pop inho
genius is right
They were, and are, the best.
@@srhodes6963 not exactly. It was sheer hedonism, but the backdrop was nuclear anhilation. It was: let's have fun and be happy while we still can be. Not punk nihilism, but despair nonetheless, because there might not be a future. There's a dark edge. That shabby Southern chic and retro hairdos spoke of having little, being poor, and life being all downhill after brief youth. No future on both personal and existential levels.
New Wave in it's finest.
Not postmodern, maybe you meant "meta"? They are very self aware and sarcastic. This song is a bright cheery pop song about counterfeiting money.
The entire arrangement is an absolute delight but that Surf Guitar solo is just...*chef's kiss*

I always felt, if you listen closely, there is an undercurrent of a hard rocking song there. Much of this bands catalog had that undercurrent. Fabulous.
Ricky Wilson was such a genius guitar player. So simple but hard hitting.

"Heavy Equipment" never sounded so good in a song!
I KNOW, RIGHT???!!!! XD
And Kate means business when she sings that bit at 2:51!
She sure does! XD
I'm packing some heavy equipment. Wanna help me lift it ? 😜
This album was fantastic and fun
Best song ever about counterfeiting.
Cindy was one of the most adorable women ever.
Cindy's Bond Girl close-up, Kate's side-eye, the surf guitar solo - perfection!
Cindy's my girlfriend. She just doesn't know it yet.
I return to this often it brings my spirits up
Love the 52s..especially in the 80s.
This is a fantastic song, with a brilliant video. Whoever directed this video is a genius. It really captures the color and vibrant nature of this band.
The integration of song and video is truly amazing. This is one of the best music videos ever. The way the video changes to the music, the new wave back drop, the dancing, the rotating table- innovative and unique- top notch.
Great stuff
Totally. This is one of the few fantastic music videos ever made. Really simple, really connected to the song, really creative, unexpectedly inspiring.
Volta anos 80...
Sem duvida melhor época da minha vida...

I believe this the B 52s masterpiece.

A shout-out to Denton County Brewing Company, Denton, TX, for having this one playing this afternoon!

I love everything about this group
Gotta love it when a group produces a track like this and all of their other songs are completely different. I mean I like B-52's stuff but this song is just amazing and unique. Wouldn't mind a few more of them like this.
Assistindo em 2024 do Brasil!!!
Boa banda!!
THE B-52'S ARE SO COOL!!! I LOVE THEM AND THEIR MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 2 girls were probably the only Female Voices that could pose a serious challenge to ABBA's 2 jaw dropping good female Singers. This song is so ahead of its time and it still is in 2020! B-52's are indeed aliens from another civilisation in a human form.
Agree! (But honorable mention goes to the 2 girls from AceofBase and the two from BoneyM.)
They don't hold a candle to the ABBA girls, don't exaggerate.

The #1 song in Brazil - The decades can run but not for this song!
These guys are so talented. This song is a fun song.
It's amazing how current the B52s still sound. The crystal clear production doesn't hurt, but they were right on point with so many of their trademarks. Like using kiddie or toy instruments--so many "indie" type bands do that now.
I always loved how they snuck an awful lot of Motown into their sound, which back in the 80s, was grouped in with "New Wave", alongside fellow Americans Devo, and the Brit brigade of synth poppers like Bronski Beat and Scritti Politti. They were very image conscious, in such a fun and theatrical way, something that is sadly too often missing from today's "indie" types who wear the same understated thrift store "undercover cool" looks onstage and off, almost like they're too embarrassed to really go all out when it comes to a stage show. That distancing sense of irony; of trying to act like you don't really care--the B's were all about being giant goofy dorks and having as much fun as possible without EVER trying to be cool.
Waterstreet68- you really nailed it.
I am king of the Blues and I tell you this The B-52's are doing things that nobody thought of; brilliant!
This group is Theater at it's best! (that's the real stuff)

A criatividade na simplicidade pra fazer algo eterno.
Its amazing how a 1983 song and video look and sound like modern music does. We went full circle, or maybe just run out of ideas.
