You are one of the best producer of such videos. I think you should have mentioned other Haile's records in the video like you did for others because during those times Haile had a lot of other records. My all time best athlete in long distance running is the great Kenenisa Bekele!
Haile's eleven second cut on the WR in '95 leaves me choked up every time I watch it. What courage it took that night to see it through, alone, for almost 4 laps.
Looks like Jakob I. will be the next one of three (the others Aouita and Lagat) under 13 for the 5000; 7:30 for 3000, and 3:30 for the 1500. Just needs to crack 13:02.03 (his PB from 2019).

Training is what it is all based on bro, you can't win without training so saying I had a bad training is the same as failing an exam and then saying I studied bad but I am still impressive. The only reason we are better now is because the challenge is higher. Back then there was no high records, which means they didn't have to push that hard. The records have slowly improved thru this century. One by one an athelete broke the record until we are finally here. So I think everyone that wins a race and specially sets a record is beyond amazing.
Even now, near the end of 2019, nobody is anywhere close to running times in the 5000 like those run by Gebrselassie or Kenenisa Bekele. Heck, Paul Tergat's fastest times in the 5000 look awfully good today.

Most people focused on building upper body strength and used horses for moving. These people seem to rely solely on running and not on upper body strength as much.long distance running minimizes upper body weight and strength and that may not be the most optimal body

duuude, I run 5k for fun, and I thought I was fast when I finally dipped below 25 min, I thought I was fast. This video really put it inot perspective, how fast these dudes are. It looks much easier than the 100m sprint on video, but its painfully hard to get below 20min when you actually do it.
It's the 13 minute _mark_, not _barrier_. Nothing special happens at 12:59 vs 13:01. Just a round number. The sound barrier is a physical barrier; a round number isn't.

Besides Aouita, there have been also Komen, El Guerrouj and Saidi-Sief, who accomplished 5000m under 13:00, 3000m under 7:30 and 1500m under 3:30. So there have have been 4 athletes, not only 2. Aouita's advantage compared to the others is that he also ran under 1:44 for 800m.

In today's competitive environment, no record is secure even Bekele's 1237. But Bekele's 5k WR is about approaching the limits of human performance. The next 5k WR when it comes(it is inevitable) will exceed it by a second or two but not by more. I say the next 5k WR will be in the neighborhood of 1237 or so or around 402 mile pace
