Roger Banister broke the first 4 minute mile in history in 1954. The time was 3:59.4. If you convert this pace to 5000 meters, you get 12:23.78. I was happy with my 26:44 pb set yesterday on a race. This guy did it in half that time - 1 min, and i'm seeing so many people in the comments with sub-20 times. I got a long way to go 😊
He is the Usain Bolt of 5km Run...look how smooth and confident run with no signs of tiredness..next level run. Many congratulations 💗👏and love from India🇮🇳
i agree man. truely history in the making
Shut up
My brain just cannot comprehend how he just did 3 miles in 12:35 🤯
3.1 😂😂😂
3 miles and THEN some! That pace is faster than most people can do 1 lap. My fastest 400m lap was clocked at 64s as a freshman and that doesn't even give you sub 13 minutes for the 5k, and he did 60.4 seconds for the whole 5k!
i wonder if sub 12 for 3miles is a race that can be beaten

My best 5km time was 17 mins 15 seconds when I was 15 but due to injuries I gave up running the following year , loved running I used to win everything miss those days 😊
Breaks my heart to hear bro. I myself am going through an injury and I’ve been out for over a year. I’d do anything to go back to running but I think I will have to let it go too 💔
yup my pr was 16 min and i still got like 12 place... or something
Aww that sucks man. My pr was 11 minutes. But got a knee injury
Started running 2 months ago and barely made it to 5k in 40 minutes. Yesterday I got a pb of 5k in 28:42. I am now pushing to do sub 25 and hoping to get it by the end of the year.
Have you try maf training?
@@hermanocampeon6806 I never had any formal trainings. I just run whenever I am in the mood at least 3x a week.
Wow as a ugandan am so happy watching this💪

Congratulations to Uganda! What an amazing accomplishment! Greetings from the USA. Much respect to you.
Jaren Watson 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
I started running during lockdown approx 2 years ago.
Quickly fell in love with it.
Built my volume up to 25-30 miles a week and am approaching a 20minute 5k pr.
I am fascinated at how much further the best in the world can go.
Truly astonishing he looked so relaxed too
Did you get your 5k time down simply by running more or did you incorporate speed workouts?
@@VILLA2192 speed workouts are very good, but simply increasing volume can also be fine for anything above 18-20 minutes. Personally I would still incorporate speed workouts anywhere below 25 minutes just to build up your explosiveness
@@VILLA2192 be careful not to increase volume too quickly, only 10% increase in mileage each week
what @marco3391 said ^^^^^^^^^
yeah i dont see this record being beaten anytime soon for sure. one day it will but how much by im not sure.
Am so so Happy Cheptegei, you made us proud
Vincent Aisu i think he has made the world proud. Incredible racing!!
He has run with easy when the Olympics 2021 will come he will break the own record again

My first ever 5k run i finished for 18 min and 20 sec. My second 5k attempt i was only drop at 10 seconds. And I finished 18 min and 10 sec. I also attempted a race for 10k and i finished 39 min and 34 sec. I will try to attempt and give it try for sprint runs for next year inshalaah. I was so humble when i see this incredible finishing 5k with only 12.35 it was massive success. Congrats big respect for all runners.

My best record is 39 minutes. I had to walk every like half the time! And I put everything I can to make it as fast as I could, but man, 12 minutes is really, really impressive! When I finished the run, I said to myself that I would be happy if I could make it to 30 minutes! Seeing this now made me more excited!
😂😂😂
thats the inspiration of sport boss!
I would say that I ride 22km per hour in my Bysicle for 10k and it was really good work for beginner man,
And this man is running faster!
its stupidely quick
E Kipchoge in form and mind what a run from Cheptegei!!!! Never did I think to ever see that record broken! Next up 10k! K Bekele should be proud to see that the future is still bright for distance athletes. Let’s see if the Norwegian brothers can make this exiting and challenge as well.
Absolutely right man! I think he knows it’s doable it’s just.... does he want to smash it or just break it? He can continually smash the record if he breaks it slowly over time
Cheptegei had a huge advantage with those wave lights. Kipchoges 1:59:40 marathon isn't offcial so why is Cheptegei 5k and 10k official???
This is massive cheating. The computer wavelight pacing system should be banned. What's way more impressive is the REAL world record by Kenenisa Bekele in 2004. 12:37

Choice Damiso i agree! I cant decide weather its a great thing or a sad thing! Bekele must be gutted but also proud to have held it for long! All that aside though - i couldnt think of anyone better to have taken that record. Lets just hope the blood tests come back safe

ig2d i thought the exact same thing! They spend a good 2/3 minutes of the 5k race filming the jumps and pole vault! This is history we’re watching!!!
@@bayleymassey Dude there are people that are not as interested in running as they are in jumps and pole vault. Give them some screen time.
Coding M i mean i agree with this 100% but the producers would have known that this was going to be a world record attempt which in itself is a big deal. Especially for the 5000m which has been held for over 16 years. I mean i know its only 9 seconds but i wouldn’t like to be interrupted by a discus throw during the 100m.

Very smooth and efficient stride- he reminds me of rudisha. Cadence a little slower than bekele but (maybe because of it) he returns his foot right under him. gait and flight long , unweighting with pronounced arm shoulder/swing that is just perfect. And his tilt - He fell forward 5000 meters.
