Timothy Cheruyiot led from gun to tape to add a world 1500m gold to the silver he collected two years ago, finishing fully two seconds clear of an eye-wateringly good field to clock 3:29.26, half a second off his 2019 world-leading mark.
Silver went to Algeria’s London 2012 champion Taoufik Makhloufi in 3:31.38 and bronze to European indoor champion Marcin Lewandowski in a Polish record of 3:31.46.

Best performance of entire championships. Timothy completely bossed it.
freedomm Sifan Hassan did the exact same thing in the women's race and missed the WR by just over a second
And Beatrice Chepkoech too
Best male performance. The women bossed this champs
You all forgetting abaut what Beatrice Chepkoech did in women steeplechase!
@@festussang9399 what was it please enlighten me
"He has decimated a world class field, he ripped them apart"...
Right as I started reading your comment the guy said it in the video
@@ErickandAnimals 😃😂😂same
Brother he was on another level.. If he wins in Rio he can retire in peace
@@oghetokevin8746 rio?
@@anthonyjoshua1603 Tokyo..sorry
Very impressive that Lewandowski finds time to run here while playing at Barça
Bro 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Gotta love a guy that knows he’s the best and just asserts his dominance
Ok? Gay. Nothing wrong with it. It's all good. You don't have to hide it under words though
@@huskiehuskerson5300 literally just talking about running, buddy
@@eddygilbert8908 u don’t understand jokes lol
@@sierrasmith8722 I don't think Huskie was joking, but We don't do that here 😤
@@huskiehuskerson5300 awesome
Glad to see Lewandowski finally get a medal after so many 4th places
Cheruiyot just ran his own race like there was no one in the track
Timothy’s stride length is enormous! Absolutely deserved victory there - a truly heroic performance
Can we all talk abaut Makhloufi,,,he's the most consistent middle distance runner I have seen,,,been winning medals in every championship he competes in be it 800 or 1500m. Kudos
Tim kept a gap of about 2 seconds most of the race. Even when the commentator said it was closing, it really wasn’t. He did not fade.
It wasn't ever close. If anything, the gap widened lol. What a run by Cheruiyot
It's amazing how makhloufi has medaled on the world stage so consistently over the years
Makhloufi is a blatant drug cheat - open your eyes!
@@jakkeday1 do you have any evidence ?! Or just speculating?!
@@akramlouifi3308 His coach has had a couple other athletes banned for EPO use in the last few years, and was literally found with syringes of EPO in his bag. Bit of a red flag if you ask me.
Doped to the GILLS
Amazing consistency
Cheruiyot has one of the best forward leans to his running style that I have ever seen.
Probably the very best
When julius yego cheered up cheruiyot, that was epic 4:20
I had to go back and confirm
Yugo is a Yugoslav car brand though.
@@tysonogake7650 me too
Holy cow, I didn’t notice that.
Nice catch!!!👍
Wow, I also went back to see that! Great catch! What an awesome moment!
An african i proud of u guys Algeria kenya werever in african many loveless from Ethiopia
Thank u sister 💪🏻🇩🇿
Cheryout was the most dominant male athlete in his event for the whole 2019 season. Just one loss, in his season opening, then crush the rest of the world for the rest of the season and crownd it with a dominant world Championchip gold.
Cheruyiout was just having another training day
Tactics are great in major championships, but boring, I rather have a race where they go for it, "I'm the best, prove me wrong" great race!
Beatrice Chepkoech all the time 💀. Girl be like, 'catch me if you can'
Yes this kind of competition will be so great
I always found that weird, I like the suspense a tactical race brings. Seeing one guy dominate the whole race is boring to me.
Yeah in 5000 and 10000 it's not bad because they really do have to pace themselves and they run quite fast for the whole race anyway. But 800 and 1500 they can run so slow at the start and it's only 2-4 laps all up, like they will run slower at the start of an 800 or 1500 race then they do in a 5000 or 10000 race it's weird, like the 400m and 200m athletes might as well have a go at it if they can just survive the first lap or two.
You can as well go and race and bring your tactics. Congratulations Cheruyoit for the win.. Kenya hoyieee!!!!!!!
Timothy Cheruiyot is on another planet for the moment, and i think he can make the world record in the future
I hope so too🇰🇪🇰🇪
No one can beat north africains bro dont boring ur-self 💪🏻🇩🇿💪🏻🇲🇦 😁
3,26 I think is impossible to make it. Hicham El guerrouge the best in the planet 🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦
it will take like a miracle to run below 3:26
@@samassek That's what everyone said about the 5 and 10000m world records.
Very nice to see an actual race for once...he definitely proved he's the best
Kenyan born athletes have won every single 1500m championship since 2007. Impresive
I've been waiting for this this race for a long time😭
What a power move from Cheruiyot. Full of confidence!
Absolutely scintillating from start to finish - one of the all-time great 1500m performances by Cheruiyot. Had to watch it again straight away!
I remember he went out at a similar pace in the World Relays in the DMR against Blankenship & died. This time he held on & made it look so majestic.
What a race. Glad it's finally up! Gutted for Jakob to miss out so narrowly on a medal but an amazing race no less
Along with Beatrice Chepkoech's victory, I think this was the most deserved gold of Doha. Neither had won a global title before this, but this year they were head and shoulders above the rest and just went for it in the finals. So deserved!
What a clear demonstration of front running by the favorite.. vivo Kenya
Cheruiyot completely obliterated the field. Wow! What a performance. Can't wait to see what he does in Tokyo 2021.
Old school race tactics similar to Paula Ivan from Romania @ Seoul Olympics 1988. It was majestic!
A wonderful and excellent performance from Algerian Toufik Makhloufi
Proud of you my brother from my motherland
This race makes me smile each time i watch it he was too confident, this is how racing should be than people being so tactful going too slow at the start then splint at last , its sad no Olympics this year
Races need tactics, imagine having a heat before the final
@@sergie_37 Olympic tokyo 2021 would be cancelled for real.
My favorite race of all time.
The commentary for this race is just next level!
Brawo Marcin. Jesteś WIELIK!!!
Best commentary in a while...
Congrats Timothy. Gud job and keep going man
Whos here after Jakob won gold in the olympics?
I AM
Wow, not many people can keep themselves that far in front from the start to finish. Usually they fall behind during the last 200m.
Proud of Makhloufi 🇩🇿💪
What an excellent run.
pure determination what a race
What a great champion run
You can feel the aura of jakob in the intro of the athletes. His 5k medal disappointment made an impact to this race
Bold, classy, fantastic running
Top 5 all under 3:32...amazing.
That is what you call a dominant performance!
What a great race.
Commentor did his research perfectly
Awesome race! Blew them from the start! He tried it last weekend too and Jakob showed him how to be faster and stronger! Do t see Jakob losing to Cheruiyot anymore!
Cheruiyot beat Jakob in Zurich after the Olympics.
Congratulation to our brother Kenyan an moroccan! Good strategy by Cheruiyot, great job!
Makhloufi is algerian not Moroccan
Cheruiyot the GREAT..you did Kenya pround.
Mekhloufi the algerian man is a legend
Yaay! Poland finally got their global recognition! 🔥🔥🔥
What a beautiful race
This was much better than the olympics
Cheruiyot EARNED. THAT. Wow.
It was nice of Cheruiyot to throw aside tactics and just race with time, he knew centrowitz won olympic race with a slower time that even female athletes can and in this race he said am racing against expected time to finish 1500 m.race
If this race was not on the same level as Filbert Bayi in the 1974 Commonwealth Games, it wasn’t too far from it. Outstanding display of front running.
Every racer has to decide what's best for them. Some are better finishers, some have better endurance, also fitness varies race by race because they are human.
winning Rudisha style
I love this❤
Timothy learn the lesson from what happened to the Kenyans kiprop & kiplagat in London & Rio when they run slow races vs Algerian Makhloufi .. if they run like him they could easily won Gold in last 2 Olympics Games
Algérien Turbo ❤️🇩🇿
If you are a true runner your heart must be pumping faster by just watching this video like you are in the race. In my high school years I have run track and field and cross country for Nathan Hale high School in Seattle Washington from 1996-2000.😂😂😂😂
19 year old boy was the fighter here.. Appreciate his courage men..
never seen such a easy finish he was allmost bursting out in laughter :)
No he was not you should watch el gerouj Finnish when he broke the world record
Amazing race Kenya
Good job makhloufi from Morocco 🇩🇿🇲🇦
What a speed great foot work 🔥🙏🙏
"LIke three spitfires coming out from the sun..???" LOL
Been said before look at my earlier comment
Unfortunately the competition were jets.
Yeah that was severe overdo lol
Makhloufi Algeria 😍❤
thank's
If he ran the mile, he would've DEFINITELY smash Hicham El Guerrouj's record of 3:43. He just needed that extra 14 second 100m to smash it
عااااش بطلنا مخلووفي 🇩🇿🇩🇿
Good an tactical race from makhloufi he know cheeryot is better for him he didn't follow him thanks toufik from Algiers 🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿💥💥💥💥
Jusqu'au jour où on va nous annoncer que le Kenyan était dopé.
Watching this is very exiting
What a fun race.
La médaille de makhloufi est un cadeau pour le réalisateur 🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿
congratulations kipyegon for silver so soon after maternity
you make kenya proud
These guys ran about 18 miles an hour🤯🤯🤯🤯💪💪💪💪
Can they never host an athletics championship in the middle East. No fans. Take a look at 2017 u18 championship in Kenya. The stadium was packed for u18 championship.
Exactly...it was so exciting
Doesn’t help they had to do it in the middle of the night smh
At least the long distance races were in the spotlight for once. But comparing to to Kenya is on the other end of the spectrum - they live for athletics.
@Rita Wanjiku hey Rita. How are you? Are you single
They probably don't due to altitude. Think of Mexico City
Wow, I had forgotten about this. He ran a 3:29 by himself! good lord
He didn't mean to win by 3:29 though , he was merely practicing social distancing .
❤thank u
It was rudishaish in confidence, congrats cheruiyot
Tokyo here we come. Team Kenya hoyeee! Team Tim hoyeee! Twende kazi 💪💪
2019 1500m final is great although not as the one from 2017.
You just saw the right approach- just take off!
Grande lewandowski futbolista y corredor profesional, futuro balon de lro
Timothy you did what you were meant to do...I hope Tokyo Will be you vs Manangoi keep working hard
5:03 perfect foreshadowing for the 2022 championships. let's see what this year brings
Look at that glorious mudflap bouncing in the wind. Amazing.
Proud to be a Kenyan
First five guys are just class acts.
hongera cheruiyot welldone kenya
Hard work 🙌💪💪💪💪 then success
3.29 plus change is a serious time for a final at the world's.....I compare this to the Jacob counter of Cheruiyot at the Olympics.....Hicham El G would be proud...
Gives you and idea how fast that was when the USA qualified at home almost 15 seconds slower. Both Engels and Centrowitz ran 10 -12 seconds faster than the qualifier and still finished well off the podium. Engels grabs Cheruiyot's hand at the end and Cheruiyot thinks he's gonna pull him up. Engels just walks away. Not thinking.
Best 1500m ever.
Love Engel's look!!
All that distance ahead and he only won by 2 seconds. Crazy to me
