  • Welcome to the World Athletics Watch Party, join the conversation on Twitter with our hashtag #WatchWorldAthletics.
    Timothy Cheruyiot led from gun to tape to add a world 1500m gold to the silver he collected two years ago, finishing fully two seconds clear of an eye-wateringly good field to clock 3:29.26, half a second off his 2019 world-leading mark.
    Silver went to Algeria’s London 2012 champion Taoufik Makhloufi in 3:31.38 and bronze to European indoor champion Marcin Lewandowski in a Polish record of 3:31.46.

    • @shiozza
      @shiozza 4 года назад +14

      Yeah in 5000 and 10000 it's not bad because they really do have to pace themselves and they run quite fast for the whole race anyway. But 800 and 1500 they can run so slow at the start and it's only 2-4 laps all up, like they will run slower at the start of an 800 or 1500 race then they do in a 5000 or 10000 race it's weird, like the 400m and 200m athletes might as well have a go at it if they can just survive the first lap or two.

    3.29 plus change is a serious time for a final at the world's.....I compare this to the Jacob counter of Cheruiyot at the Olympics.....Hicham El G would be proud...

    Gives you and idea how fast that was when the USA qualified at home almost 15 seconds slower. Both Engels and Centrowitz ran 10 -12 seconds faster than the qualifier and still finished well off the podium. Engels grabs Cheruiyot's hand at the end and Cheruiyot thinks he's gonna pull him up. Engels just walks away. Not thinking.

    All that distance ahead and he only won by 2 seconds. Crazy to me
