UPDATE! Kibiwott Kandie broke the world record at the 2020 Valencia Half Marathon with a time of 57:32! Check out the race breakdown here: ruclips.net/video/WOUpDDSvpzA/видео.html
I’m fascinated by the fact that on several occasions, the half marathon record has been broken during a full marathon. That’s stunning and rather crazy!
@Ramon Wrestling It's probably how it fits into the season. Taper is 2-3 weeks, and recovery the same, then you've got time to build back the training you were doing for the marathon, so in all it's about 1-2 months out of the season for a serious runner. I don't think you'd have to add pacing work, as these guys run HMs at tempo pace, which they'll know well.
I know that it doesn’t really seem to be your thing, and the history isn’t quite there as traditional track/road racing, but it would interesting to see you dabble into the ultra running scene. Like a progression of the 100-mile world record or something about Scott Jurek or another dominant athlete in different eras. Just a thought, but I love the current content regardless!
Kamworor will do it himself soon and probably run something in the 57:40 range. This man has so much potential. My highlight is the 2018 World Half Marathon in Valencia (where this video’s beautiful thumbnail was taken), where he ran his last 5k in 13:01!!!! Yes, 13:01!!! I mean, let that sink in - THIRTEEN O ONE - what an absolute legend. The olympic 5000m record is just under 13 minutes (12:58) and Diamond league meetings rarely end up being faster than 13 minutes and Kamworor ran it in a half marathon!
@@jamisonr That truly sucks. I wouldn't put Kamworor down though, I remember in one of his races he fell at the starting line, sustaining multiple abrasions on his knees, yet he picked himself up and won that race in horrible rainy conditions.
@@moonootoo He's getting back to form, but suffered a minor injury just prior to the games. I'm pretty sure the spikes hurt his feet or something, after he ran a 27:01 10000 in the Kenyan Trials. I'm never counting him out. He could possibly pull a Kipchoge and break the marathon world record

Great videos! Try and check the weather conditions for the current World record! Is was blowing gale force winds in the Streets of copenhagen. This has had to make pacing a difficult task.
I would love to see Kipchoge train for a half marathon.. his mind focus during training has to be out of this world to be so consistently displaying mastery in the full marathon.. I bet if he put his mind and body through Half marathon training he would get close to the world record time or maybe who knows.. beat it..
Tadese would have obliterated 58 mins in his prime in the Vaporflys. That we even have to have such a discussion is testament to how these shoes have ruined the concept of a world record.
For sub 38 min, just wait until Nike make a better shoe...that's what's really running all these crazy times. These records would not be possible without the Vaporfly. Can you imagine what Tadese would have run in his prime with the Vaporfly? Under 58 min I'm sure of it. It's making comparisons with the past and with athletes that don't have the Vaporfly impossible. Where's the fun in that?
@@personintheworld8754 What the hell are you talking about? It's the vaporfly shoe plus the athlete = faster time than possible without shoe. This is common knowledge. And yes, I would run a faster time against myself with vaporfly vs no vaporfly.
Pretty low. One funny story about that - the Russian athletes who used to dope had to be woken up during the night to see if their hearts were still beating as their HRs got so low.
All these comments and nobody wishing Geoffrey Kamworor a safe and speedy recovery!!!! I wish him all the best and hope that he is back to top form soon, without pushing himself too hard to get there too fast.
I heard about after running the Mickelson Half marathon a person who ran 58:00 in the Half Marathon at the time in 2009 but the race is point to point and downhill at 3% grade for 95% of the race with 3% of race not as steep and 1% steeper so disqualifying for a World record attempt due to not looping back to near starting area due to race changing . The guy was some Native North American person who set the record and looked like they were from Mexico or some of the Native southwestern tribes since those people look so similar.
The more TRP videos I watch the more I feel that Kenya needs to be recognised as the greatest running nation on earth bar none. How can one country produce elite runners from 400 meters through every single distance to the marathon holding majority of the records in most of those distances? Incredible.

Will that ever be possible? I doubt it. It would (almost) be running a full Marathon in 1 hour, pace. Even Kipchoge's 1hr 59 paced marathon would pale by comparison.
Butthurt that you didn’t talk about my guy Dionicio Céron the only Mexican to hold the HM WR and was the first person in the world to win the London Marathon Back to Back to Back :(
Kamwarror needs to judge his pace better 5K 13.51 10K 13.41 15K 13.31 20K 13.56 . He slowed down too much between 15 to 20K . Even splits he would have been able to close strong and definitely go below 58. 10 to 15K was too fast and killed his closing speed. Hopefully he will learn and do better next time.
Ohoj. I see this video about the half marathon showing that it isn`t the shoe and its composition that counts in running (look at Bikilis shoe back in 60`ties) No it is how much the runner believe the shoe is helping him or her run faster. Ohoj Inga FROM Denmark.
The half marathon races should have road that goes beyond the finish line, in order to at the same time attempt the 1 hour world record. Kamwowor might have beaten it for sure. Just how much further could he have ran in 1:59? By staying at a 2:45 pace, he would have run 721 extra metres. The 1 hour world record belongs to the great Gebrselassie at 21,285 metres, so 185 metres more than the half marathon Kamwowor would have beaten him by 536 metres.
