When I first went vegan I would watch his hour long speaker talks on RUclips. Very motivating, lots of information given in a passionate way. Really set me on the right path.
Before discovering John McDougall, my vegan diet was very restrictive (Fruitarian, Alkaline, Dr Sebi, Fasting detox, Mucusless and a all potato mono-diet ). I was on a verge of quitting. With McDougall, everything became very relaxed and easy, since most of his diet recommendations were my confort foods from my childhood (bread, rice, yams, cereal, pasta, grains, etc.). He changed my life! And because I am trim and active, I enjoy more fats and protein (nuts, avocado and seeds, tofu, beans and protein shakes).
Really hurts knowing he has passed but he made such a big dent while on earth that would continue on, always a legend in my heart, love you and RIP Dr. Mcdougall😢
So happy for this video, Mike. Thank you for pointing out the life expectancy....stats. We are mourung him and at the same time, so happy to know him....and you.

Back in 1986, before most of us knew about factory farming, I became aware that animals were being severely abused, so I couldn't eat them anymore; I had to learn about nutrition. A friend gave me "The McDougall plan" and changed my life, my health and my body radically for the better. I've been vegan for decades now, and I am forever grateful to both john and Mary, who taught me to cook through her recipes. Rest in peace, Dr McDougall. You fulfilled a great life mission, and I thank you. Peace and condolences to you, Mary and family.
Nothing but love for Dr. McDougall, he helped me so much. I can’t speak to others’ commentary, but I did see the Shawn Baker vid- and while I disagree with Dr Baker on most points and live my life totally opposite to what he encourages- and I do think it was certainly in poor taste to speculate on the good Dr’s health and diet especially so soon after end of life- I would not go so far as to call it an attack. Most of what he said about Dr McDougall was positive and respectful. It is truly amazing that Dr McDougall thrived for so many years post-stroke, and left such an indelible mark for good in the world which will continue to positively affect those in need, long after he’s gone. That’s the mark of a life well lived. Never got on his high horse, never embodied dogma even though what he prescribed could be considered extreme compared with standard diets. I will so miss seeing new uploads and wish nothing but peace and healing for those closest to him.
Isn't that study of older individuals, though? What is the life expectancy of someone who had a stroke at 18? I imagine the survival rate is longer than 5-10 years. He probably did surpass whatever it is
There are many reasons why somebody could pass at 77! I'm glad he passed peacefully. As a former vegan, I remember when things like this would come up or people would leave the vegan diet, I would come to the defense of veganism real quick. I would come up with any other reason why the diet didn't work for them or that they fell ill or whatever the situation was. This kind of reminds me of that. I see so many vegans that do stuff like this. Doing everything to protect a belief system. It's funny how we do that. However, I loved Dr McDougall and I followed his work for a certain period of my life. I appreciated the perspective he brought to the Nutritional and diet community. It's good that people like him were able to shed light on other ways that people can Thrive even if it's not forever. I don't think there is one diet for humans. I used to think that way when I was vegan. I think a lot of us lie to ourselves and we will do anything to defend it. I think it's important to know as much as you can on all lifestyles and diets and make informed decisions for yourself. And that may change because the body changes. What's best for me right now may not be what's best for you right now. I used to judge people even though I didn't want to judge them but I would do that because of how strong my belief system was. I thought everybody could make it work on a vegan diet. But there are endless factors. One thing for sure is that humans should do the best they can to have Whole Foods and minimal processed foods. Whole Foods including unprocessed/minimally processed animal foods. When I went back to eating animal products, I struggled and grieved a lot. I also knew that I had to pray over my food and for the animals and for their sacrifice. I think we need to have a different relationship with food and how it gets to our plates. I am not a fan of factory farming. I believe we should support local farmers and ethical practices. I think local farming will allow humans to thrive better with optimal health and thay includes some animal foods and raw dairy with proper practices as well as raw honey and free range eggs. Fishing and hunting in an ethical way if that's what you feel called to. One large animal is food for several months if stored properly. Which means you dont have to go in the poor house to eat healthy food and that saves many more animals. Now that part isnt for everybody but it's better than supporting factory farming. Anyways, we are all on our journey and so this may not resonate at this time but a better world is possible with less suffering for everyone and vegan diet may work for some but not all. Animal based diets may work for some but not for all.
He was my favorite, of all the plant based doctors. Dr. Esselstyn runs a close second, and Dr. Greger is a close third. Most of them are pretty cool though. 😎💜🌱🖖🏼🌱💜😎
Shaun Baker was not attacking him. He was just saying that he seemed to have sarcopenia, and that it may indicate either a lack of proteins and/or a lack of exercise. Given that muscle mass is negatively associated with all cause mortality in the elderly, that's an important point to make.

Why do people think being vegan or plantbased makes us immortal or something?
Because they’re competitive and want to feel superior.
