Que lástima que no existía el sonido digital en su mejor época, un tenor grandioso, a pesar de lo limitado de la tecnología de ésta grabación se siente que tenía una voz absolutamente magnífica, poderosa, metálica, colorida, cantaba cada silaba con una pronunciación excelente, el solo hubiera opacado hasta a los 3 tenores.
Actually, the best opera recordings technically were made from the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s. Digital recordings were a step down from analog tape.
Having said that, I don’t know how this was recorded. It looks dubbed, but I’m not sure.
BTW, I heard Corelli on his farewell tour with Tebaldi, and they both had huge voices.

Pavarotti se reconocía a sí mismo como inferior a Corelli. Carreras tuvo una voz hermosa y si hubiera tenido una técnica como la de Corelli, aún la tendría y quizás habría llegado a ser tan grande como él.

highest standard . In particular in this great aria sung by the poet Chenier.

When I first heard this aria well over 50 years ago it absolutely blew me away…and it still does. I even prefer it to Come un bel di di Maggie. But, then, I adore the entire opera!

Magnifico, come sempre, il Gran Maestro Franco Corelli, se dubbio siemopre e il miglior "Andrea Chenier" a tutti. La sua voce bella e potente abilmente applicato mai, non riesce, le storie più ispiratore, acuti perfetti e potenti, diminuendo magnifica e inimitabile e sostenuti, in breve, tutte magnificamente meglio. Ancora una volta, la ringrazio molto "macciboma".

We became older, and we are asking ourselves, if the next generation and further generations will be such opera lirica fanatics as we are?

@@amandajean7738 Dear Amanda, we are also asking ourselves, if it=preservation will be possible for the future. The opera-business here in Austria in the summertime, there are plenty of summer-festivals, now AIDA and it is really a spettacolo as I saw an advertisement about this event.
The Vienna State Opera Public recruiting to 80% of tourists, mostly from the far East.
Now coming back to old singing. This kind of opera will never more happen.
Maybe some fans in the future generations?

El magnifico maestro Franco Corelli, en su plenitud de voz y fama se retiro dos años despues de la fecha de esta actuación, pensó hacerlo por un tiempo `por que se sentía cansado pero solo volvió a dar conciertos muy especiales y por que lo rogaron mucho. Afortunadamente, tenemos sus grabaciones, los vídeos y películas que interpretó.

Corelli era un tenore catarchico. Purificava la sua anima cantando e attraverso il suo canto mostra la strada all umanità per fare altrettanto.Bellissimo ,eroico idealizzato .Tecnica impeccabile ,fascino grazia e potenza .Difficile tanta meraviglia in un solo tenore .Ma lui era così forse il più grande di tutti .

Corelli had a few roles that even today remain in his domain alone. CHENIER was one & here he has a fine partner in Celestina Casapietra, a former student of Gina Cigna, who seldom, as far as I know, ever sang in the states. This performance was recorded fairly late (1973?) & Corelli is still in optimum form. Physically & vocally he was absolutely ideal in this role. Bonisolli had already arrived on the scene & was considerable competition but his primary advantage was his total lack of nerves. His upper range was even a bit more extensive but overall tonal beauty & sensitivity were still, I feel, on a lower level than Corelli. How interesting that both died within a day of each other!
