Sorry for the late post guys. I was away and didn't have access to post it ;)
You had me worried!
We’re going to let you get away with it just this one time 😂
Glad you're back! 👍💪✌
Hey up mate I've been wondering all day youse are my Sunday morning treat(uk)
Be worth the wait all the same 👍
Sunday morning sorted, coffee, couch time with the dogs and the latest episode of "Home built by Jeff". Mint👌🏻
Whoever suggested por15 and didn’t say to wear glove is a mad lad. Good one guys. Good one
I was sitting here last night waiting for my Sunday evening dose of Home Built by Jeff, better late than never
My favourite channel - honest, easygoing and informative 👌🏼
Jeff, I was up with my insomnia this morning and you weren't there. What is up Dude?
Always a good watch jeff, keep up the good work.❤
Enjoying this build Jeff......................very much.
Thanks.
PS: Love to see the Roxster progress sometime too.
As much as I enjoy your videos, the endings are always the icing on the cake. The relationship you two share is just great. Mrs. Jeff is almost always watching you as you speak, nodding, frowning, just providing a lot of body language. Then you Jeff, you do the same thing. Nicely done - and I admit I am truly looking forward to the first go-round on the body to chassis hookup.
Woke up this morning and no Home Built. Then Arsenal lost...
Day wrecked 😢😢
Ciao from Italy, one for the misterious algorythm!
You made that beautifully, that was not an easy task, but it looks sturdy again 💪🏻👍🏻
Hey! That's my motto! If a hammer doesn't work, use a bigger hammer!
Nicely done man! You’re constantly pushing yourself in new ways and it’s great to watch and learn with ya! 💪😎✌️
Thanks mate. As you know, the best way to learn is to try new things :D
Jeff, there really is no one better than you at repairing rusty bodywork, making it look as good as-or better than-new! So impressed with your skills…
Speedy work Jeff. Put some waxoil or something in the void between those inner roof panels so the condensation doesn’t rust them out again.
Top Tip for you : the easiest and fastest way for removing old big rivets from old chassis is to get yourself a heavy duty air hammer/chisel with one pointy tip and one chisel blade, take off the rivet head with the chisel blade and punch it out with the pointy tip, I did that with a similar old truck frame and each rivet wont take me more than few seconds to remove. Mind you to get the heavy duty air hammer (has longer head from regular air hammer).
That is a good tip and would have saved me a bunch of time. Thanks.
Stick welding you best ‘drag’ rather than ‘push’ the weld pool.
Jeff, we've just crossed the equator last night on board a cruise ship. I was waiting for you to do the usual Sunday night post, even stayed up late. Thankfully you're on today, WOW never thought I'd suffer "separation anxiety" so bad. It's not a holiday without HBBJ.
Thanks Jeff and Mrs Jeff, my young son (9) loves watching the videos and bloopers. Thanks for sharing. From Ryan and Seb.
1954 model. Now I finally have something in common with one of your vehicles! I could do with some bodywork mods, too 😎 No welding, please, lol…
I think people can now appreciate why body off restorations or engine swap and custom builds aee soooooo expensive.
The sheer amount of man-hours to fabricate trumps the cost of materials by far.....
As a loose start we used to estimate cost of materials/hardware x 3,5 to come up with a starter estimate......
Great job as always and enjoyable to watch with your explanations as you go......
I've also seen people tig panels onto a car in place of a spot welder, which is really handy to avoid drilling holes and grinding the welds down after most people fit new/repair panels. Worth giving it a try if you have overlapping panels
Did you remember to wear your glasses whilst welding? 😂
Jeff you are amazing, I’m picking up the torch and will be trying out tig welding for the first time. Hats off to your projects, they are a piece of inspiration.👍❤️🇨🇦
Jeff, I think you will find that 53' Fords in "oz " still used the side valve engine. Around Bowral in the 60's there was a chap that had VW with a Porsche motor that was a very nice machine .Don't know what happened to it.
Jeff, have you noticed that the rain gutter over the windshield is bent up a bit on the driver's side? I had a thought, perish me; loose the entire gutter above the windshield and make one large new metal repair to join the windshield frame to the roof? Include a fabricated doubler with a stiffening shape spot welded to the inside? It's your ride; I can't imagine you want to be riding into a rainstorm with Missus along, AC or not. Having looked, a roof repop might be had from the US, but the W/S frame isn't. NO joy; hence my thought to make it shape as one piece and add some additional stiffness to the back. That will give you the finished shape your inside header needs to have. If you plan to AC the truck the ceiling will need insulation and likely a header of some kind. Forgive my intrusion- you are rockin' on a rust pile. I'll shut up till the Missus has her say. I did not ever know Henry was a used car peddler! That explains a lot of later things!
Hi Jeff, I don't remember - is the roof too far rusted to bring back to life?
If not, rather than trying to fabricate and weld in a new roof, you could try to remove the dents.
Carter Auto Restyling channel will give you some great tips for this job. I can't speak from experience as I have none, but it would seem that slow and steady progress is the way to tackle a job like this.
And if it doesn't work, it's simply back to plan A 😀
Good progress!
Jeff your work on the truck reminds me of Bad Obsession working on the “Escargot”!👍
Looking good mate, enjoying your videos!
Fascinating!! Enjoying this build Jeff!!
I'm here for the fun facts with Mrs Jeff, but your work on the cars is also informative and entertaining! Keep it up. Cheers from South Africa!

How do you know a woman truly cares for you? When she reaches her palm up and removes a bit f schmutz off your face is how. Great project the truck. Great work. I always get a smile when I see you have posted a video. Be well.
I’ve had those clamps for a good 10 years….quite useful !!!! Cheers !!!!
I dare you to gull-wing door it seeing as the roof is so knackered. :D
This new project with sheet metal and body work came very timely since a have some body work on my 73 Ford Granada that I would like to tackle. Seeing that it is doable if you take your time and brake down the job in bits. Doing bit by bit. And without being a master fabricator even though Mr Jeff is very skilled. He has quite a few tools though that would be handy. I have to see how my project progresse ,,tools etc being inspired by Mr Jeff. 🙂 Great episode. 👍
It’s looking absolutely great Jeff I love watching each and every episode. I learned so much from you cheers, mate.
Hi Jeff. To reduce heat soak into grinding down MIG welds try use some carbide burrs bits. They are extremely effective compared to flap or grinding discs. They seem to cut off the hard MIG welds instead of abrasion.
Keep up the good work
I'm here for the Alfa, but always enjoy your work Sir.
A trick to getting POR15 off your hands/skin a bit faster is to rub in moisturizer multiple times a day. It softens up the Por15 so it wears off faster.
It might sound funny, but worked for me.
I use that throatless shear for the bulk of my fabrication, it's quite versatile once you get used to it.
It's always fun to see your work and how you do it. Greetings from Germany Thomas
Gonna be a cool truck!
Render in the thumbnail but not in video? Keen for discussion of it including how it articulates etc. Great project and glad to be on board at the inception!
More to come on that front ;)
Good work this week
Back the good side with brass or copper flat form the good face so no excess buildup of mig weld and less grinding .. plus no need to remove excess weld and risk thinner panel syndromes..
Use stick welder to spot and plug weld.. That way you don’t leave excess buildup and ugly welds.. I can spot weld a panel butt joint as easily as mig spot weld. It’s all about rod thickness and duration of weld and heat dispersion.. backing with flat brass plate is a great way to learn the tipping point to excess heat and molten weld drop..
Agree with your assesment of MIG versus TIG welding. All I can add is that TIG is not ideal when performing 'cut and butt' welds on large relatively flat panels where the likelihood of distortion is high. In such cases - using YT Fitzee's 'judicious' MIG spot weld technique is preferable - a technique that minimises heat and hence distortion of the panel. However, I only wish I could MIG weld as well as Fitzee - just need more practice.
Love the vids! Keep it up
Good enough job .
Just bought 2 of those clamps. 👍🏼
cool stuff jeff
Lol - definitely going to have that POR15 on your hands for a while Jeff - just until you lose that layer of skin tho 👍
Hi Jeff love your channel, why? because you don't "faf around" like the British channels 😆 Also stick welding is the most difficult IMO don't even try the hard rods that need to be heated up first, it's hell😅
I need a tig in my life
I hope you run duels on it then it will look the part.
Have you got Ryan on the phone yet to give you a rundown on the English wheel?
Kyle from the Fab Forums would be good as well! He's really talented.
Thank you Message jeff. That's a lot of rush.
New welders are awesome. Haha. Would you say cute? Lol
😀😀
KBS Rust Seal is another good option for us here in Aus - very similar product to POR15 & a bit cheaper.
It would be awesome if you put lambo V12 in the hauler! You might be the only guy that can do it.
Jeff I have 2 different headed clamps they are Draper Self Grip Welding Clamp. Super cheap but last years.
To bad it's only in Australia to win the mma welder, i was really hoping i could participate because i only use the stick.
Ps. Jeff you were running it a bit high on your demonstration
Thanks. I never stick weld so that is good to know :D
Hey mate your that late there's hardly any comments to read, in your rushed video you should have said baby welder is invertor Technology, first used one bout 4 years ago couldn't believe how small and light, might have been slightly higher amps but yours is way smaller again almost to the point that leads take up more space
It would be great if you go through the DOT approved engineering process . For people that haven’t had a modified car engineered before .
Cheers
If you get to it before it fully sets brake clean on a rag will take it off.
Too bad you’re far away, have an extra cab that has a nice roof on it.
Also if you don’t wipe the clean the POR15 can lid and sealing surface good luck ever opening it again. From now on you will need to drill holes in the lid.
Using this method works well for me. Further never paint straight from the tin as you can contaminate the paint.
Hi Jeff, may I suggest the introduction of Everdure for rust repair. A nickel brass rod used with tig that makes small hole repair easier without the flux of brazing but with great flow and less temperature (heat) when material is to thin to weld but still substantial enough to keep. Best of luck Pal...
I will look into that, thanks.
Just a recommendation when using the POR15, wear a mask as well as gloves. Not good to breathe in POR15 as I believe it can get into the lungs.
And i was wondering where are you 😅
A bigger hammer usually solves a variety of problems.
"TIG over MIG"... I just use a rod for everything😅🤣
must depend on the MIG machine then i can adjust my Lincoln down to a very small feed . the feed wire just seems like mild steel , panel welds are mostly just a series of spots to reduce heat. i ' homebuilt '' 2 austin minis using TIG but i now wish i had used a mig
You scared me mate! I was worried about you
Don’t do that again!
I was convinced something terrible had happened with the late post
😀
Hi Jeff, nice work on the rust repairs! Just been wondering what your plan is for the bits you've welded up and painted with primer etc? I know you are looking to keep the patina rather than painting the whole thing, so are you just going to leave the repaired spots with the grey primer, or do you have some other plan?
❤️🔥
Need to turn that old fuel tank into a storage locker
Jeff, have you looked at LMC Truck for parts for this cab? Them and National Parts Depot are my goto's
Hi Jeff, I was just curious if the same regulations apply in Australia regarding repairs on rusty unregistered cars. In New Zealand, we have to involve a panel beater and engineer and all repairs need to be inspected before applying any filler. Is it the same in Australia?
I will have to have an engineer go over this due to the body swap, but the repairs are not something that they seem concerned about.
Jeff could'nt you use the hot and cold on the roof to get the dip outlike you did on the Datsun
Hello guys I was getting worried .
Being encouraged to comment! And that it could help the "algorithms" for the channel ,, why not. Being asked to run my mouth or,, my fingers on the key pad more accurately. There a long standing joke that been going around for ages. But it should only be used with great descression since it has seen causing depression , low self esteem in the man and confusion and unsertanty in the woman. Here We go; Mrs Jeff. I am befudeled . How come? you being a such a beautiful woman. How come you are with this Jeff guy?? I mean ,,, 🤔😬 Ok guys great show you make a great couple. 😀
Have you looked at a ford escort steering rack as youcan get them with 2.4 quick rack or 2.9 standard ?
The requirement is the rack must be from a vehicle with a mass that is equal or greater than the Alferrari. An Escort is lighter than the Alferrari - so can't be used.
Love it but music too much! Thanks.
Better late than never 😂
I wonder how it will drive. With a car on the back, it seems like it would have an awkward center of gravity.
Have you considered using PDR techniques to fix the dented roof, far better result than welding in a new panel to "fix" it and a lot less work.
Panel beating it would be easy but it is all rusted out with holes all the way through.
I was thinking the same. As a bonus make a few templates out of wood to beat against and to help make sure the two halves are symmetrical.
Grinder and paint make me the welder I ain't 😇 (Stolen from AVD)
Hi Jeff, Scott here from the Gold Coast. What product do you use for “Weld through primer”. All the paint shops up here look at me crazy when I ask for it.. I’m thinking it is primer with a high Zinc content - but how high? I’m about to replace the floor on a “classic” Mini Van. Thanks mate..
Link in the description ;)
@@HomeBuiltByJeff thanks Jeff!
those Automatic adjusting C-Clamps are the boss petty they are out of stock :(
All good just found them on the aussie site 👍🏽👍🏽
So the Frankenhauler was actually a true Frankenhauler in it´s former life, but the reason was dodgy repairs. I´d say it is getting a better life now.
🍺👏👍🏻
What if you used a shrinking disc in your angle grinder for the dent in the roof?
ruclips.net/video/IGuc06GMwG4/видео.htmlsi=2ClpdoTWsNguXNrV
Going to lose some concourse points with that repair....
Booo! The Weldclass promo is for AU residents only.😢
Did this guy really just talk shit about vicegrips?
