Reliving The War takes an in-depth look at the WWF vs WCW "Monday Night War" era of pro wrestling. Week by week every episode of Raw and Nitro gets covered (including every match and every promo) to find out which show was really the best.
Booker T makes his return to Nitro to take on Scott Hall, Chris Jericho is challenged by Kidman for the TV title and Rey Mysterio Jr meets Psychosis in the ring. Bret Hart also has a match lined up with Lex Luger, but the Hitman doesn't seem too eager to fight the Total Package.
On Raw this week Shane McMahon gets put in his place by Daddy Vince; Father and Son share words that result in Shane losing his corporate job at WWF and gaining new employment as a referee. The Rock has to fight for his place in the Survivor Series 98 "Deadly Game" tournament, the WWF's Steel Cage hangs above the ring as Mr. McMahon promises that someone is going to serve hard time, and we also have Steve Regal, Val Venis, DX and more all Mankind all involved in matches.

Hard to believe we haven't even gotten to the Dudleys, WWF Jericho, Kurt Angle, the Hardys and main event Rock yet.
We're getting there😊
Disco, Booker T, Raven, Wrath, The Horsemen, His Excellency, and Saturday Wright Fever all in Hour One?! Best hour of Nitro ever!!
WB’s reaction to “The Fingerpoke Of Doom” will be GLORIOUS!
I cannot wait
The commentating and sound effects provided by Eric Bischoff is quite amusing.
I have a sneaking suspicion who’s going to win the war that week (especially with the other channel putting butts in seats with a certain unlikely emotional title victory)
@@jbanks979was that the same week?! If it was how have I never known that. Lmao if the finger poke of doom is the same week/episode that Mankind wins the title no wonder why WCW went under when it did 😂
You really have made Thursdays feel like Monday nights all over again. Can’t thank you and this channel enough
Perfectly said ❤
Norman Smiley just gives me the vibe of a high school science teacher who decided to become a pro wrestler
That's funny because I always thought he looked like teacher from the movie, Dazed and confused, (the teacher that wouldn't let the rising freshmen out of class early)
37:38 That’s absolutely hilarious. Front row seats. Hard cam. “Eff this match! Let’s beat the traffic.” 😂
Man... I forgot just how good prime Billy Kidman was. One of my favorites as a kid.
"Norman was forced to watch Saturday Whright Fever while hung up in the tree of woe.."
Wrestling Bios juggling with hand grenades at this point lol!
god I loved Bret Hart, I always really liked him but this series has given me even more appreciation for how good he was, even when creative wasn't doing him any favors.
He has been the MVP of reliving the war. From Bret we got:
Shuddup!
Smokey the cat
The jam
They're animals!
Laughing hyenas
I'm sure I'm missing some too. That doesn't include his untouchable in ring work.
Wheelchair Bret was one of the greatest gimmicks ever.
@@michaelkeller5927 And we still haven't gotten to his "El Dandy" promo, and steel chest plate to Goldberg segment yet.
Nitro bringing the heat with Wright and Disco right off the bat. I'm shocked WWF didn't call an audible and have Steve Blackman start off Raw.
Watching Regal like that was tough to watch. Very glad he got himself some help because, he is one of the best ever.
Being told a Regal/Golddust match was a desaster because the in ring work sounds at first implausible. Until you are being told about the circumstances.
Yeah, Steve was at a real low point and Dustin wasn’t exactly living clean at that point.
Man what I would give to be a kid again watching all this live with my pizza rolls not a care in the world
Kind of feel you should review the Greatest Secrets of Pro Wrestling now that it's canon to the Monday Night Wars. Keep up the amazing work!
Once in awhile A&E still plays that episode. Don't 😂 at me,I thought wrestling was real until seeing this exposing documentary about it.
I think this is the first time nitro had Saturday wright fever and disco inferno back to back in the first hour, what a way to kick off this week of reliving the war.
Loving all the original Road Dogg and Bret shut ups we have been getting every week
Brett Hart - "shut up" is one of the things I look forward to in this series!
I Love how the intro keeps changing with RTW its showcasing all the fast changes each week and highlighting all the superstars
Love each week this series. Thank you wrestling bios 👍
"I'm gonna teach you how to giddy up and go".... Gold
Steve McMichael will be leaving WCW soon around February of '99
Welcome once again to Thursday Afternoon Jericho (aka Reliving the War) - the best show on RUclips. Thanks again for this.
Jerichoholics approve
Jericho was and still is overrated
I know ppl didn’t like the hardcore matches. But during this time they were amazing. When road dog and Al snow went outside in the snow always sticks out in my mind
Some of the early hardcore title matches were pretty decent for what they were. It’s when they started the 24/7 stuff that it became a joke.
Personally, I loved the hardcore matches.
After last week’s Reliving the War, which ended in a tie for the 18th time, and which also ended with Nitro scoring a ratings win for the final time in the Monday Night Wars, this is the episode where RAW took the ratings lead for good, and would remain that way for the next 126 weeks, from 2 November, 1998 to 26 March, 2001.
In hindsight WWE thinks so little of WCW they never mention this. WCW's 84 win streak is actual part of their Post WCW-Branding. WWE is like ehh 126 weeks, we just did what we had to do.
@@ainnocent 83weeks
I’m so glad Regal got healthy. Love the guy.
Same!
Woah, flashback alert. I was in the military and in 2006 or 05 or so, I went to the gym on base and Norman smiley was there working out. So that was pretty cool I went over and introduced myself and told him I was a fan and he thanked me and was very cool.
Personally I loved Kane's path of destruction on Raw. As a kid when watching this and watching a match I didnt really care about and seeing the lights go out, hearing that creepy church organ hit and the pyro and Kane coming out levelling everyone and hitting some amazing choke slams was amazing.
Also, something you perhaps overlooked here is the amazing commentary by JR and King on this. They sold the whole story about this lost soul and how he is just off the rails perfectly. I'm pretty sure I remember JR with "Oh for god's sake! Again!" which just cracks me up to this very day, and King squeeling when the Pyro goes off never gets old.
Watching the Alex Wright and Disco Inferno montages and I just realized...Too Cool will probably get them too...I know its still many months away but I know it'll be RTW magic ( like everything in this series)
I popped when I saw crash bandicoot! Crash bandicoot 2 is one of my childhood classics!
LET'S GET IT, BOYS!
I forgot it's Thursday! Woooohoo!
Kidman and Saturn were always my favorite in ring WCW guys and Jericho was the GOAT on the mic.
Someone needs to get one of those shirts to Bret.
I bet he’d love it.
Or he would sue, haha
R.I.P. Droz
I love that Bret Hart "shut up!" Hahaha they are funny everytime
Kidman was so underrated!
That Blackman kick was epic
It’s always brilliant here in Australia Friday mornings. I wake up to another great video from wrestling bios. Takes me back to when I was 10 watching wrestling with my old man 👍🏻
Giants vs Lex is the most 1995 thing I can think of.
The Hitman makes me laugh so hard sometimes, dodging Goldberg was so awesome
love your content as always but a little surprised no tribute to droz's passing
This was recorded before his passing.
@@WrestlingBios aha no worries :)
That Norman smiley suplex was crazy!! 💪
Norman is remembered for all the goofy hardcore stuff and the Big Wiggle, but he was and probably still is a brilliant technician. Still an NXT trainer today.
I loved angry Vince. So good
I can't believe this was 25 years ago. It feels like yesterday. These videos are honestly, amazing
Can't believe 98 is nearly over on RTW can't wait for you to cover 99 .
Can't believe we're nearly into 99 now, its been one hell of a ride! I'm Actually looking forward to seeing how wcw declines from 99 onwards now, i was all wwf at this point growing up so I missed a lot of it, bring on the bollocks 😂
Place your bets, how many wins will WCW get in the year 2000?
Agreed, the declining years of WCW were so crazy, looking forward to hearing about it through this channels eyes so to speak 👀
RIP Droz
Can’t wait for your Survivor Series review!
The Official Coronation of The Rock!
Another fantastic episode of RTW. November 2nd, my birthday! I turned 10 when this Raw/Nitro happened. Damn, time flies so quickly. The nostalgia is real
I was 2 days from turning 11 at this time, time flies indeed, miss this era....
Bret saying hello to his lil pal Smokey never fails to warm my cold heart 😂
STILL the best series on all of RUclips! You're the BEST!
The reason I love Thursdays. Keep it up bro. Such an amazing job on this series
I remember that 'Secrets of Pro-Wrestling Revealed' show. IT was hosted by the guy who played Skinner on the X-Files. Don't the fans bring their own signs? It implied that they were given them. Boy, I sure remember a lot of old TV shows from the 90s. I watched tons of that stuff. :)
As I listen away every night I'm at work and I can't help but think in 15-20yrs when people review wrestling bios on the new youtube, there going to think how well this series was put together. Your commentary and little jokes and way you talk about the show being number one is very moving at times. Wrestling bios should have a Netflix series
I can't wait to binge all of these in succession someday.
For now, enjoying the *BLEEP* out of these reliving the war segments.
It only really makes me wish It was still going on now.
Thanks again for doing these videos and hope we see some more of your spotlights on people and Wrestling stuff in general.
I'm still gonna cross my fingers that you give us a comprehensive 'Managers before the Attitude Era' video because managers really seemed to phase out with the Attitude era and they became wrestling managers more than heel or face influencers.
its awesome, I have literally just caught up
Yeah dude ive seen some channels a couple years after a series is finished theyll release a super cut. I woul LOVE to binge RLTW Supercur
Best part of thursdays is Reliving the War the Deadly Game tournament for the WWF title at Survivor Series 1998 was awesome the Rock winning the title was an amazing Swerve that Tournament is Vince Russo's greatest accomplishment in the WWF as their head writer great video as always.
But to turn heel is unexpected.
@@lexkanyima2195 that was awesome 👌
R.I.P DROZ
I look forward to this every week. Shame I ordered a Jam t-shirt and never got it. 😔
RTW is back on the menu boys
The Road Dogg Bandicoot was perfect.
It’s just the fact Vince said the day he retire is the day he dies and this man ment every damn word of it fr 😂😂😂😂 (side note that Crash bit for the DX/Bret Shut Up bit is goated)
It was Thursday night and you know what that means! Reliving the War is here again. Also RIP Darren Drozdov. A career cut short but he was no less a fighter. Say hi to Animal & Hawk up there for us OK? 😢
The fact that we started this week with Das Wunderkid and Disco made my Thursday. Bret’s slogans have made me appreciate him even more throughout this series
Great day today in northern California, great workout, home now, with a glass of whiskey, and watching reliving the war. Thank you wrestling bios, for making Thursday a celebrated day. 🙏🏼🙏🏼👍
Other than his hairstyle, Booker T looks exactly the same today. Wow.
The timing of the lwo on here and being brought back on smackdown is epic
Regals book is definitely a must read.
My mates take the piss because I like wrestling but I really don't care at all RTW is a guilty pleasure on a Thursday night love it thank you Mr Bios
With no more head to head victories left for Nitro it truly is the beginning of the end for them
Yep, it’s downhill from here.
Neo Cortex Bret Hart was amazing! I love crash bandicoot
The "Anglo Punk Wolfpac" had a nice sound to it 🐺
Thanks for another spectacular Thursday with a new video! I know you post the next episode early, but waiting for the next Thursday is always worth it.
BIG props on the song at the end. I enjoy that whole album, not entirely ironically. I kept singing the song after you faded out!!!
Debut of the Hardcore Championship
I dont mind the DQ finishes as its always fun to see Kane destroy people.
Love the crash bandicoot “shut up” segment 😂
The only thing sad now we're seeing Blue Blazer, is its near Owens final days :(
I look forward to these each week! Great job as always!
I have been binge watching this series, I am almost done with '97. It is so easy to see why WWF won. Their programming was always evolving. WCW has some very good workers (Jericho, Kidman, Guerrero) who never got a shot at a main event match or even feud. No wonder those guys bailed.
When I see a new wrestling bios video I click.
I only found this series about 4/5 weeks ago and I’m already caught up, great stuff, you the man with the jam, keep up the good work👊
By this point I had only been watching wrestling for a few months. I came in during the summer of 98, not too long after WM14. I watched every Monday with some of my buddies, and while we primarily watched WWE, we sometimes tuned in to Nitro while we were waiting for Raw to start. Despite none of us being big fans of WCW at the time, we somehow ended up getting Halloween Havoc, and we still managed to be shocked at how terrible it was.
Looking back, it's insane how fast this period moved and how much happened in such a short time - on both sides of the war.
I dont think the speed of light is faster then my click on reliving the war, lol
I’m sorry but we the fans are gonna start need 2 a day or back to backs lol I can’t speak for everyone but damn this is the best 30-40mins a week for me!! Great job as always cheers friend
Yo wrestling bios!! Don’t forget to put this in the RTW playlist! Lol absolutely love this stuff every week. Best channel on the net
I watch this every Thursday night and I swear it feels like the 90's all over again great high school memories for me thanks reliving the war 👍👍👍
This is Thursdays are worth living 4 let's have a great show everybody
You wanna subtract 2 from 3? You're gonna get 1.
Alex and Disco back-to-back?! Holy cow
Stop releasing these when I’m working I can’t put my phone down 😅😅
All jokes aside thank you so much for your dedication, best creator in all of RUclips!!!!
That freaking Meltdown powerslam was super devastating
30:25 Buff's reaction 😂
Man! The wrestling takes me back...but that crash bandicoot segment was a great memory lol!!
This Raw episode had Russo's fingerprints all over it.
I have to disagree with your comment on the RAW main event. I thought it was hilarious. The cage lighting up was cool and watching Austin shuffle along the top of the cage to do the middle finger salute had me in stitches (Although that was on extra attitude)
This is the best Road Dogg and Bret Hart video game parody yet 😂
Hey Wrestling Bios, the dancing punches by roaddogg is called the "Shake, Ratttle, and Roll" 😁👍
What i look forward to on Thursday
Thanx WB 😎👍
Perfect timing, I just finished off the July 4th Bratwurst
"Springboard teabag" lmao 16:21
14:16 Ernest Miller I think also made a dig at Exposed: Pro Wrestling's Greatest Secrets when he sarcastically and melodramatically said to the Nitro audience 'Now you know our secrets!'
Best thing happed to wrestling since the start of youtube ❤
This was, literally, the best time to be alive.
I've been waiting for this stretch of content. This is when I became a fan plus RAW was in my town on this night. Should be a treat.
