- Hey friends, welcome back to Commander Clash! This week we build decks around our favorite video games, loading them up full of references! Here are the flavorful decks we made:
- Crim spooks the table with monsters from his favorite survival horror franchise, Resident Evil, with a deck led by Volrath, the Shapestealer
- Richard is on a mission to either save the world or summon a meteor to blow it up -- I'm not sure -- with a Final Fantasy VII deck led by Niv-Mizzet Reborn
- Seth picked Frogger. No, I'm not kidding. It's a Frogger deck led by Xyris, the Writhing Storm
- Tomer has come to FIGHT, combo'ing off and achieving a perfect victory with a Street Fighter deck led by partners Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder & Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix
Which video game will achieve a good ending, and which will get a game over? Find out now on Commander Clash! Street Fighter II: www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/745348#paper
Resident Evil: www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2849073#paper
Frogger: www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/3394724#paper
If i could suggest a few adds/edits: instead of blackblade reforged perhaps tatsumasa the dragons fang
also maybe add leylines to represent the lifestreams
maybe circle of loyalty to represent knights of the round.
wandering towershell to represent adamantoise
Lowkey thought Seth picked battletoads over frogger.
Lol
In Seth's Defense, 37:58 there were water rivers you had to cross as well and not just the street alone.
Tomer: plays a card
The others: "what's the reference?"
Tomer: "it fights..."
"I built a deck based on my favorite video game, Magic: The Gathering: Online. Everything in my deck is a reference to something in that game"
Is it bug tribal?
jfb-1337 Based
The moment Crim said "resources are scarce" i immediately began suspecting that he'd be land-screwed
Clearly, the standard cards in Crim's deck was to represent the survival horror.
First Richard plays a Fate/Zero deck during anime week and now he plays a deck based on Final Fantasy 7. A man after my own heart
There’s a Frogger game in the sky! Frogger’s Adventures: Temple of the Frog on the GBA has a sky temple level, so Weatherlight and company are officially validated
What about with boats?
Otis Norton Tsang Sky...boats... we can choose to focus on the “sky” part...
One of two games. The ps1 aswell.
Seth's deck is clearly the best, for it has the almighty CHUB TOAD.
True one of the strongest frogs in my two frog tribal decks.
Richard gushing about FFVII put a big dumb smile on my face. Can’t wait to finish this battle and see who wins.
Same, sounds like he is only a year or two younger than me and it was just as big a deal to me, like all the same memories. I bought FF7 before I got a PS, I was so excited about it lol.
Im surprised no one played insect tribal with MTGO.
I honestly thought it might have battletoads instead of frogger
Battletoads is the version with black
Not gonna lie now I wanna make a Bloodborne themed deck with innisatrad cards, that’d be dope
I think Crim has unironically managed to yet again, bring the most thematically on point deck at the table.
Nemesis?
Welcome to Commander Clash: Boomer Edition with Richard ranting about how great the 90's were. Seth & Tomer showing love to the 80's. Although, for shame Seth for not finding a way to include the 2 most famous frogs in Magic, The Gitrog Monster and Yargle.
Great episode, as always.
Seth isn't playing YARGLE for frogger?!?!?
Color identity rules made it hard. Maybe I should have played Morophon to have access to the black Frogs :(
@@MTGGoldfishCommander You still did a pretty decent job committing to the theme, though. The only one that felt off, to me, was Tomer. However, his deck still had some nice references.
Can't wait to hear Crim's justification for why Mana Drain is resident evil-y
Not in the deck, wow
Frogger's greatest fear: being crushed by wheels
Crim at the end was amazing. Loved it
"I dunno who could be Tifa" One of the versions of Radha the Grull Keldon Elf lady.
In every game there is a rhistic study in play, Tomer is the first one to break the promise of paying every time. At least Seth doesn't lie when he says he's not going promise anything.
I really gotta respect Seth for that Frogger deck. Anyone can build a popular franchise themed-deck, but Frogger? I am really impressed.
I forgot that I was listening to this on 1.25 speed and so I thought everyone must have been so excited to talk about their favorite games because they were talking faster then usual.
One of the coolest Frogger games had an entire sky series of maps for the ps1. Great game. Cool to see what you played before we got all these new cards.
I don't know how old Seth is, but his soul is 50+. I think he said somewhere that he loves Velvet Underground and now Frogger! Awesome! :D
Weird, I was just thinking about what Colours each of the FF Protagonists/Antagonists would be.
I actually decided on Gruul for him~
Happy to hear an older fan squee like that, Richard

Oh my gosh. Hearing Tomer’s story about playing FF8 until he found the card game then IMMEDIATELY dropping off from the campaign to just play the card game hits home. Doom train was OP
From the thumbnail, I thought Seth was playing a Chrono Trigger deck and thought, "Whoa, that's awesome!"
You all make such amazing content. Love the banter between you all it makes for such quality content I enjoy watching for hours. Continue the good work please keep making more you all make my weeks so much better.
2:45 damn the youth
I love that among the fighting, horror, and JRPG games, the biggest threat that was taken out first was Frogger
Oh, I actually expected Seth to play a Civlization deck
super awesome game. Loved how everyone got into the theme and seemed to really actually enjoy the game.
Cannot hit the like button enough times. Love this episode, love this show!
I'm sad I can only like this once. Y'all have such awesome deck/themes.
To add to Tomer, no one ever knew that you could parry supers, and Daigo just did it.
Justin Wong vs Daigo 2004 Third Strike
The most legendary fighting game matchup ever imo

This is the original video on YT from over 14 years ago!
the fleetwheel cruiser... what a flavor win
Richard’s rant at the beginning was amazing
I'd say that tomer's deck is a flavour fail since he purposefully put in cards that didn't fit the theme so he could draw cards, I'd also say that Richard's deck is the most flavourful
Omnath week for the next commander clash. Please Make it happen!!
I saw the frog and was like “What game has frogs.. frogger?? No way someone plays frogger” And yet, here we are. Seth is a madlad lol. I love frogger :)
I was thinking Battletoads when I saw the frog avatar
I didn't even started watching the game and I'm already happy
3 minutes in, I'm completely feeling Richard's rant. These nostalgia pangs.
Richard: I don't know who could be my Tifa...
Narset: bruh
Had to stop mid video to state that our local bowling alley has an arcade still WITH a Frogger that gives you tickets, I won literally thousands and got me a Aquaman lamp and his head lights up 🤣
A really fun episode! I loved the first Mortal Kombat movie when I was a kid. It became my motivation to learn martial arts and fight choreography.
So happy to see Crim win a game this season. I get tired of him getting focused out early. Also happy to see the underdogs make it to the final two.
I kinda wanna see commander clash, most expensive deck possible week.
Like full duals and everything
That domri rade has inspired me to make a clash of clans deck.
Hoooooggg riiiidddddeeeerrr
RE3 and RE3r are some of my favorite games in existence; I'm so pleased to see it!=
I'm only an hour in.... poor Seth, that massacre wurm was just brutal :( On the other hand, good job Crim, it's exactly my plan of dealing against Scute Swarm in current standard!!! This has been so fun so far!
Who has better taste in video games? What's your top 5 list?
For me:
1) Metal Gear Series
2) Twisted Metal Series
3) Transformers War for Cybertron & Fall of Cybertron
4) God of War Series
5) War of the Monsters
Crim gets my vote, I really liked RE4 when it came out.
My Personal list:
Soulsborne Series
Ratchet and Clank series
Burnout (Revenge and Paradise)
Titanfall 2
Pokemon (RSE + DPPt)
Definitely not Seth lol
Tomer kept saying he just needed card draw, but all I heard was "Spooky Boots"
21:25 LOL I know this feel. Brother is 7 years older than me so I used to watch him play stuff like Final Fantasy and Resident Evil.
Seth not playing Artful Dodge, despite it showing a frog-like creature dodging through the streets...
There's only one blockbuster left. Really enjoyed all of this jank ty all ( :
Right in my nostalgia 💜 hello from Argentina 🙋♂️
Ravager Wurm doesn't even destroy Field of the dead xD
richard's child-like love for FF is beautiful
Crim with the FFVI Kefka laugh.
Anime and video game weeks have been sweet! I’d love to see the theme continue with movie week/non-anime tv show week/book week/etc
As a frogger aficionado, Seth's deck was on point, but it needed more bees
milk absolutely goes into the cereal.
Tomer's pacifist Street Fighter deck, aka Street Friender
The conquerers galleon represents the logs on the water levels of frogger.
I never thought id see the day where everyone fights over either being run over by an airship or eaten by a flying snake monster
Tomer at 0:32 "So this is going to be flavor first"
Tomer at 1:25:12 "So there are a couple cards in the deck that don't fit the theme. They draw me cards..."
He says "sorry in advanced" 9:48 for cards not in theme, but like... you could just play some wheels or something. Not an Elder Dinosaur...
Hahaha! Funniest deck intros maybe ever!
Yay!!! Resident Evil deck!!! So happy!! AND IT WON!!! YASSSS!
Tomer explaining how games used to come on multiple disks made me feel like a fossil.
For Richard, Crim and Tomer.. There is a Jackie Chan movie based on a Japanese Manga (called City Hunter, both the manga and the movie) with a Street Fighter scene you guys *should* definitely watch if for some reason, you haven't.
Also, if you know or like the City Hunter manga.. there was a recent remake (that is actually good, unlike the Jackie movie) called Nicky Larson (2019). It's really good and fun.
Blanca aside, the artwork on ball lightning is my mental state at all times
Seth makes his enemies into frogs by hitting them with the vehicles😱
When I saw the thumbnail I thought Seth would be playing frog fractions
Hundred Handed One gets Reach when it goes Monstrous, but The Inferno Titans would have still ended the game. Also, the "Frogs" of Resident Evil are called "Hunters." And "Frogger" has to cross a river, so the galleon was *kinda* okay.
Richard's "Gil Toss" made me chortle.
Thanks for the Content!
when i saw the frog on the thumbnail, i thought it was chrono trigger... leave it to seth to pick frogger, lol.
Frogger was my first game I played on C64 back in 84
Funny how those inferno titan tokens are still on flavour since they can represent the Tyrants sent to Racoon City during the outbreak .
Next time, Seth should run a Hearthstone themed deck.
I was expecting Seth to play Coin Flip tribal and just call it Hearthstone
I was hoping someone would bring pokemon.
With the new secret lairs, this themes is slowly become easier to do. After Street fighter i am sure we will got Frogger secret lair.
I remember playing Madden '97 for the first time and thinking, "there's no way games will look as realistic as this!"
My picks for most/least flavorful.
#1. Crim: Every card played had an explanation. A few cards even came up that were completely flavor over function. Pretty solid.
2#. Richard: Similar to Crim, each card had a purpose, but it gets a few points knocked off for flavor fails like the syphon mind when better cards like syphon life/soul would have been more thematically appropriate. Plus the use of gil toss to justify expensive cards felt more like an excuse than a genuine flavor reason.
#3. Seth: While airships and galleons aren't the first things I think of when I think of frogger, there is at least some merrit to it's simplicity. I would have liked to see more land looking vehicles, like the fleetwheel cruiser, which doesn't make an appearance in the deck, despite his claim. Also not including very thematically appropriate cards like untethered express, and renegade freighter is just a crying shame when so many options exist.
#4. Tomer: Lots of cards that were only there to make the deck function rather than contribute to flavor. Even the cards that were there felt loosely connected, like the dragon and wurm, which feel out of place in a street fighter themed deck. The single fleetwheel cruiser was a nice touch though.
Yuffie helps fight Bahamut. Cmon Richard!
I feel you Crim, I also watch the exorcist with my dad at 6-8.
Also I thought ball lighting was Hadouken
Also nice win and flavor win...
Spoiler
Crim!
okay but unironically i think you could make a sweet "chess" themed EDH deck, to the point i think i might do that when i have the time
I can’t believe Seth actually asked us to weigh in on who’s deck is most flavorful. Seth is SOOOO bad at these theme weeks. It’s almost sad. lol
Seth's deck was actually great this week IMO. It was simplistic but done well. It felt more on theme than Tomer.
Don't be mean Seth. Seth may not know most video games, but for Frogger that's pretty flavorful. Vehicles, frogs and snakes.
When Richatd had Tomer's turn. Should have cast Vivien, countered it with guardianship. Then sonic burst the obelisk spider. Then attack Crim. Then discard the rest of Tomer's cards.
All great games and then frogger 😂
Seth's deck is most flavorful
Ohh man, I built a video game deck around Ace Attorney. Lots of clues, trial of knowledge, and of course, Ertai as my phoenix wright stand in, in the command zone.
I hope you put the "court" cards in too! (maybe those are new from comment idk)
@@wesleywyndam-pryce5305 Heck yeah brother!
My man crim got good taste
Nowadays Tifa woulda been the professional face breaker
No link to Evo moment 37???? Great games loved the Street fighter deck the most
Now that Pong deck's inspired me to make a Wallz n' Ballz EDH deck
need to come up with a combo involving wooden sphere and honor worn shaku lol
I am surprised Seth didn't play an MTGO deck and have it be insect tribal.
This is a nice coincidence, I'm planning a Final Fantasy VI (III for you in the United States) for some time, and was willing to suggest a game theme week for you guys to play. Who of you read my mind?? rofl
Thumbnail: Frog
Me: Seth's not playing a Frogger deck, is he?
Not exactly a video game, but... My dad showed me Alien: The Eighth Passenger when I was like 10, which also wasn't the best idea xD
I might have understood this video better if I'd ever played any of these games.
Give me Mario, Pokémon, Zelda, Sonic...
Escaping Midgar is more like 1/3 of Disk 1. I was very disappointed by that. I wasn't interested in playing the only part of the game that I literally played the most of... I'm waiting for the completed version of FFVII Remake, since all we got was a visit...
Didnt play remake dont own ps
