    call me old school but I think this high aperture stuff is great for photography / portrait shooting, also in narrative films when needed (like crazy dof in Oppenheimer). but for me - I like to show the background. think a F 2.8 / 4.0 is still a very pleasing out of focus experience

      You are totally wrong, in true modern cinema only the eyelashes should be in focus, everything else should be a blurry swirl of indeterminate colours 😅

    • @SamWelker
      @SamWelker Месяц назад +2

      Let’s clarify… only some eyelashes should be in focus. If you get them all your AC should be fired for actually hitting a target focal point.

      @@SamWelker Totally agree, 'the full eyelash' as they call it in the industry is a sure sign of an amateur production and any DP worth their salt would beat the poop out of ACs dumb enough to shoot it

    i am using the stills version 35mm for some years now and i absolutely love the character of that lens. shame they did not launch a 65mm-ish new lens with this cine range, the 35 and 45 are kinda close together.

    The rate at which new cine lenses are coming out is wild! Def agree that Laowa seems to be one of the companies that is pushing a lot of good ideas and trying to innovate in the space.
    I think the only t1.0 lens I was ware of before this were from Zhongyi Optics....the tests from those a few years ago looked pretty nice even if there was CA issues wide open.
    After that I think the Nightwalkers albeit for s35 at t1.2. Similar CA Issues wide open...

    Unfortunately, theuey didn't realize the PL version, but maybe this is due to some phisical limits introduced by the PL flange distance. Even EF version doesn't exist (maybe for the same reason)...

    Do you know if laowa plans to release PL/EF and L mount options? I'd suspect they don't plan to due to the low market demand and profitability forecast. Any perspective you can share? Thanks

    Are these rehoused versions of the stills copies? If so, don’t count on new focal lengths any time soon, they’ve been around for several years without a new entry. I have the 45mm and printed some gears for it. While it’s definitely fun, I find that I never reach for it.

    • @MrFreezeMovie
      @MrFreezeMovie 2 месяца назад

      The 28mm is a completely new lens. Obviously it is impossible for an F/1.2 lens to have a T value of 1.0. However, diving deeper, we see that the old lens was made up of 13 Elements in 7 Groups with 13 iris blades and a 50 cm minimum focus distance, and the new lens is made up of 14 elements in 9 groups with 15 iris blades and a 40 cm minimum focus.
      The other two full frame focal lengths appear to be identical to their stills versions. However, Laowa mentions that the lenses are color matched so there might be a few adjustments for consistency.
      I think we can reasonably expect another focal length, however given the consistent physical parameters of the series, the longest we can expect is 70mm.
      Still- 28mm, 35mm, 45mm and 70mm all T/1.0 is enough range for most things, and really exciting to myself.
      That 28mm T/1.0 is able to create an image we have not seen before.

      @@MrFreezeMovie thanks Gregory! I'm glad to hear the 28mm is new (I was afraid it was just the f1.2 stills lens with an inaccurate label). Great to see new options coming to market for sure.
