I don't understand the interest on monochrome cameras when taking color pictures then converting it to monochrome give you infinitely more control over your picture.
@@MuhammadKharismawan The camera has this main advantages: -The b&w sensor doesn't have color filters so it gets more light, making it way better in low light and in terms of detail. -The actual color spectrum information received by a color sensor and the one received by a b&w sensor is different. Someone who usually works with b&w will notice the information lost because of the color filters in the color sensor. -The black and white camera could give you a faster turn around if you are going to edit for b&w because maybe you must just dial one or two things while with color the image differences mentioned above have to be minimized and then when that's done you go into those smaller tweaks.
@@MuhammadKharismawan In addition to what others have stated, a monochrome camera is superior for black and white film scanning, since the color filter array doesn't mess up the grain structure for large prints. As well, just like with film, knowing the only option is black and white inspires that mindset in many people. While some people can switch gears and just "see" compositions in both color and without, for others it is remarkably difficult. For us, it makes it much easier to be intentional.
Wow, this video is an absolute masterpiece! The stunning visuals and impeccable editing take my breath away. The attention to detail and the way each shot seamlessly transitions to the next is truly impressive. It's evident that a tremendous amount of effort and passion went into creating this captivating piece of art. I can't stop watching it and sharing it with everyone I know. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful and uplifting experience with the world. You've truly brightened my day!
The 35mm Argus is one of my favorite lenses to shoot with. It takes some skill but i alwaya get amazing photos. Anything over f2.8 its pretty much a normal lens. Very sharp. I already have the Nikon 28mm f/2 manual focus, but if i didnt i would buy this 28mm in a heartbeat.
Love the work that you guys do. I'm sure like many, many people, no matter where you guys are shooting from. And what company is supporting you we will follow you anywhere.
Another great video guys! Laowa has some interesting lenses for sure. I used their 17mm F/4 Zero-D for a year on my GFX50R and it was a decent lens but did have some flare issues so I eventually switched to the GF23mm F/4
Love that you guys aren't having to hang up your camera straps any time soon! You've been such an awesome learning resource for me over the past couple years and I owe a lot of what I know as a photographer to yall.
Another thing worth pointing out about the lens not talking to the body is you lose focus confirmation on Nikon Z cameras (maybe others, I’m not touching RF and my CL doesn’t support it on L mount). I pretty much hate Nikon as a company after taking my near 1000 usd in trade-in and then never giving me credit and ghosted me after emails and calls. That said, I do have one of the black z fcs that I love and use with the 23 and 35mm Voigtlanders that do talk to the body giving both manual lenses focus confirmation (the focus square changes color when it thinks it’s in focus, right most of the time) which lets you do focus trapping with a few settings set for focus priority.
Yay, welcome back to the tube! I am glad you tested this lens on a Nikon camera too! I bet if the Fro tested it on a Z9 he'd say the AF is still lacking. (yes, i know...) Oh yeah, what's with the D850 strap? :P
I don’t have a full frame but still saw this video juste because ébène if not interested in the product your videos are fun, and instructive I always learn something.
Showing some love. Been following you guys since the days of the Camera Store TV. Hope you've now found a better home. The 28mm 1.2 looks cool but I'd rather get a smaller 28mm lens even if I get a more narrow aperture.
I'd personally agree. Slower lenses with better characteristics are preferable to me. The only reason I'd get such a fast wide is for astrophotography, which this lens is poor at.
Never subbed to a youtube channel faster, lol. Really grateful that you guys carried on doing youtube reviews after the demise of dpreview; your chemistry, wit, sense of humor and knowledge would've been a huge waste otherwise. As for dpreview, all I can say is screw you Amazon!
Welcome back to the lens world guys! I love this lens, but would not ever buy it simply because focusing at f/1.2 is a nightmare. Even the Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 (despite being f/2.8) is a better option for video folks looking at that focal length. But it is definitely a gorgeous lens, and Ryan really showcases its beauty impeccably
Fantastic video as always, glad you guys found a new home. Puzzled that you didn't just start your own channel and work out a branding collaboration or something like that instead, but I'm sure you made the best decision for your own situations. Regarding 28mm lenses, wouldn't it be great if Sony replaced their weak 28/2 with a new G version? Something to pair with the stunning 20/1.8.
Loved this video, learned what I needed, and you made it fun. Keep inviting other great photographers to your vids! Been following you since TCS TV. Great job guys!
I guess the alternative 28mm lenses would pretty much be the Nikon 28mm f/1.4 (AF-D or AF-S G), Sigma 28mm f/1.4 Art, 7artisans 28mm f/1.4, and Leica 28mm f/1.4 Summilux. Of those, the Sigma sells used for about $600USD, so on par with the Laowa used; the Nikon is about $1200 used, 7artisan is $500 new, and the Leica starts around what, $4000? Obviously, they’re all 1.4 instead of 1.2, but that difference is quite small. I have the Sigma, which was lauded for being incredibly clean and well-controlled when it came out; I think the Nikon and Leica are supposed to be even better, but I’m quite happy with my choice. Nevertheless, it’s great that Laowa continues to push the boundaries with new lens designs, delivering something different that more mainstream manufacturers probably wouldn’t feel fits their lineup.
I own the Sigma as well. Amazing lens, I'm not gonna replace it anytime soon. Plus, I need autofocus. This Laowa seems interesting, though, I have to admit. I'm very happy to see new 28mm options entering the market.
Flaws make for more interesting portraits! Cool lens. And when you're shooting in the dark to take advantage of the speed, I think a little loss of sharpness is a fair trade-off for that!
Excellent review. I've been wondering about this lens. Thanks for being so honest about it. You gave it hype where it deserved it, but you also reeled it in with some reality as well. Perfect review. Thanks for putting this together!
I really appreciate the positive energy and how you were able to bounce back with such determination. It's truly admirable! And as always, the content is exceptional.
Great, Mr. Clean shot on the bench, creative. Portrait shot of the wings, beautiful. Thanks for keeping it real using the word gross, smeary, terrible that's how you review a lens. Keep it honestly. helps. You guys rock! Keep up the great work.
Yeah glad you guys are back working your magic! Nice review of the Loawa lens! I am planning on getting the loawa 100mm macro lens. Wow you guys are getting snow while we are getting sun shine and 80f Beach weather! It's been a beautiful spring here in Florida!!!!
The quality just soared of the charts. So much better then what I recall from DP Review. So much fun too. Thanks Ryan, Jordan and Chris. Loved the video! And thanks Sharkie James !?!? I can't remember the big guys name exactly - sorry.
I respected so much more Lawoa after trying my first macro lens from them, the 105mm 2.8 with 2x mag factor. Dear God, the sharpness and the rendering is amazing. It is just difficult to have a certain sharp picture for more distant subjects like a landscape since its only manual focus
I was thinking about something laytely: Many FF adapted lenses work reasonably well in medium format and the fringer adapter seems to work wonders. If full frame lenses generally illuminate the whole MF sensor I think manifacturers could make a few new lenses for medium format cameras "effortlessly" by changing a few things. I would love a 35-150mm f2-2.8 for example, it would be the perfect standard long zoom lens for that system since it would have an equivalent focal lenght of 27.65-118.5mm. Another good lens although not aas useful as the aforementioned tamron zoom, a 150-600 Sigma zoom. They will probably never do it, but It would be awesome in my opinion
I really like the old, classic format: Chris first talking about photography, second half Jordan talking video. I was disappointed that Jordan didn't get his segment.
I'm so glad you are back again! Concerning the video: I really like that you cover different applications like landscape, astro and video! For future videos: How about performing some sharpness tests on landscape istance? Kinda like Camera LAb is doing it. this could be really usefull! Thanks for your excelent work and keep going!
I am so glad, that you both found a new „home“. When Chris complained about the temperature and the conditions in general i knew: the boys are back ! 😊 As far as the lens is concerned i have to admit that i am a bit of a Laowa Fanboy. They make cool stuff. Greetings.
Great review 😁 Hope you make a review for the voigtlander-nokton-55mm-f1.2-sliis for the old Nikon F mount. It has cpu on a F1.2 lens for the first time 😊
Came here for the DP review guys!! Thanks for not quitting on us!
So happy you guys are back doing your videos. The lens chart testing is a great add on as well. Thanks PetaPixel!
Link of the chart testing?
The opening shot is just gorgeous, that S5II making some beautiful imagery.
Is there going to be an episode on K3 monochrome? It’s very interesting being the only monochrome DSLR on the market and way cheaper than Leica

Definitely going to review that as soon as we can.
@@jw48335 that’s a cool advantage I didn’t even think about.
Ryan clearly knows his stuff. He made this lens shine. Oh and I’m glad your two are continuing your reviews - you do great work!
His shots of Chris were top notch.
So glad you guys are back! PetaPixel is lucky to have you, and so are we! ❤
Chris and Jordan you are both part of my life and hopefully one day i get the chance to meet you guys
Poor Chris, didn't even get to finish speaking and the music was already kicking him off the video, but seriously, great to have you guys back.
99.8K subscribers. OK, that is your starting point. Let's see how high you can take this channel, boys.
Fantastic you two are still doing a show. The joint best photography double act along with Kai and Lok (sorry Northrups)
I like your stuff. I really appreciate working with other photographers and videographers. It would be fun to continue to have more.
That intro is everything.
Whens I see a video in my feed from Chris and Jordan, I don't think "oh, another peta pixel video." I think "ooooh another Chris and Jordan video!"
Haven't watched a camera and related equipment review in quite a while. I need to return to this tech space. Great review !!!
