    I think you cover most everything that needs to be said about this lens, and I agree .. it's a special lens, not gimmicky, but solid and full of character. I bought this lens a few weeks ago, based on your review, and it has brought a new joy to my photography. I shoot mostly vintage lenses, so I do not mind the manual focus. I have the Sony E version and my main complaint is that the lens focuses well past infinity, and it can be hard to nail focus. To focus I open up the lens to 1.4, focus with focus magnification on my EVF, then stop down to take the photo and that works, but it is slow. I do wish the lens communicated with my camera though. But despite these drawbacks, this lens is awesome. I rate it very highly, and it's a bargain. It's on my camera permanently these days.

      I'm glad my video was helpful Mark! It's not a perfect lens but it's a great value and super fun!

    I just purchased the M mount version of this lens to adapt to Fuji X mount because one day I would like to get a Leica M camera. Took it out the first time this weekend & loved it!

    I asked Thypoch about the likelihood of them removing the infinity lock and replacing it with the focusing tab and they said that was their plan.
    FYI.

    Excited to see a decent review on the 28 1.4 -- It's caught my eye and you calmed a lot of fears for me. How did you feel about the size and weight? I know it's better than the other variants of 28 1.4 -- but does it ever feel too large on a daily carry camera?
    Excellent sample photos by the way, and I loved your explanation of "too sharp".

      For me personally I don't think it's too big to daily especially for an f1.4 lens. That being said if you don't need a lens that fast go with something smaller and slightly slower.

    No chromatic aberrations? At 1:55 you can see severe chromatic aberrations. (Green, upper left oft the fuji, at the viewfinder, the wheel, all over the place.) It might be okay for the price point.

    Is that a grid? I mean a raster reflection from a softbox (on your glasses).

    7:15 Oh... wait a minute here bob... okay, Nikkor's 28/1.4 AF-D focuses down to 35cm, anyone saying no 28 I've used can natively get this close to a subject, 40cm... should probably not be doing lens reviews because it shows both a lack of research and experience. I know that Nikkor's 28/1.4 isn't the only 28 mil lens with a 35cm minimum close focus distance, not that this close or even a minimum 40cm minimum focus distance is that useful on a 28, but what do I know? I know you can adapt Nikkor F mount lenses with a $30 lens adapter to an M mount Leica camera. Anyhoo all of this to say, no new lens manufacturer is coming up with groundbreaking features these days, they may offer a good value for the money but even Leica released their latest 28 Summicron with a 40cm minimum focusing distance last year... it not a lens that's at the same price point that's for sure. That's just two quick examples of 28 mil lenses with similar of better MFD, and to make my point even stronger about lack of research, I just check in my old lens cabinet and sure enough, Nikkor's 28/2 AI-S focuses down to 25cm, that's just the second best Nikon lens ever made that no one talks about and cost less that $400, talk about a bargain, but it's only f/2 (okay let the vilifications begin but before you do, any lens on the M system which focuses down pass 70cm is not made for a rangefinder, you can't use your rangefinder to focus it, it forces you to essentially use an M like a mirrorless and that just seems wrong to me. A rangefinder camera may not have a mirror, it's not a mirrorless camera.)

    You know surprisingly I don't think I would mind listening to an audiobook in that AI female's voice, definitely interested to see the variety of narration styles that AI can provide. Hopefully humans don't do the lazy thing and just start using the same AI voice for everything.
    Other than that the lens looks really cool, your Leica takes wonderful photos.
    Currently I'm looking at options to mount my fuji x-t100 to a telescope i picked up at an estate sale.
    Do you have any experience with astrophotography, either attached to a telescope or with an appropriate lens?

      AI doesn't necessarily put people out of jobs - unfortunately it does put late adopters behind the bellcurve for efficiency and productivity

      @@jonathans.9372actually AI is the reason why Adobe is getting heavy backlash at the moment because they are trying to take ownership of your photos all because of AI. They are training their AI models on YOUR pictures.

      Look at the positives instead of always the negatives, it allows people to create more engaging content at lower costs. I'm all for generative AI; open source ones, of course.

    Left it at the too clinical explanation. I value sharpness highly. So if you don’t…

    • @MarkSmith-by7yh
      @MarkSmith-by7yh 3 дня назад

      You are oversimplifying what he said. It's perfectly sharp, not cartoonish sharp. I have this lens and I can tell you that it's sharp, edge to edge. In fact, one of the sharpest I own, if you can nail focus.

    • @AminTheMystic
      @AminTheMystic 3 дня назад

      @@MarkSmith-by7yh You can't really oversimplify what he said. He has a different vision for his photography, okay, so be it. But that one comment is enough for me to know, this isn't for me. Not about the lens, or even how sharp it is or isn't. Most lenses I own are old, from the film photography era.

    • @MarkSmith-by7yh
      @MarkSmith-by7yh 2 дня назад

      @@AminTheMystic I shoot mostly vintage lenses too. This lens can easily replace all of my vintage 28mm lenses, and it is tack sharp. But the point is, it is not clinical sharp, which I've definitely experienced on some modern lenses. I guess I'm not explaining it any better than the author, but for me I like this different kind of sharpness. It's not a soft lens.
