@@implantsecrets What is your reply to the fact that implants have huge health risks in old age, as we lose bone mass and life expectancy grows longer? Especially so for those with risk of osteoporosis, but bone loss is a natural part of aging for EVERYONE. Will the bone implants come loose or shift, and cause pain or fractures? @@ana419 Very valid concern, There are a lot of factors that go into the treatment of implants. The biggest factor is the health of the patient. This is something that we can not count on. Yes it is true that an implant can become loose. This could be due to bone loss, which can be for underlying factors in the patients health, as well as from poor hygiene. (regular maintenance to your dentist for cleaning can help with this.) Pain could be caused from infections or allergy to the titanium. That being said, the American Dental Association and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, maintain that titanium-based dental implants are a safe and long-term solution for missing teeth however, suggests that patients with chronic illnesses, like diabetes, may not be suitable candidates for the implants. The AAOMS does not mention metal allergies or the potential for side effects from dental implants. I would ask your primary care doctor to do MELISA (Memory Lymphocyte Immunostimulation Assay) test to check for a titanium allergy before getting dental implants. I hope this helps.

    • @ana419
      @ana419 Месяц назад +1

@@implantsecrets Thank you. Yes, this helps. However, my main concern is EXCLUSIVELY about the natural bone loss that occurs in old age, as well as that process being accelerated in patients with osteoporosis. Life expectancy keeps expanding, so how are most of the thousands or millions today, being actively encouraged to get dental implants, going to be when the implants start coming loose from bone loss, between the excruciating pain and the damage to their bones?
What remedies will there be for them if implants are permanent and irremovable, and even if they were removable, that their bones have become brittle, susceptible to fracture with age, and will not grow back?
And associated risks (infections, organ damage from chronic painkillers and antibiotics, inoperability due to age, etc.)
I am astonished that no dental professionals will directly address this ONE very obvious risk on the horizon of a patient's life. I keep getting answers that deviate or over-generalize.

Good hygiene is always a healthy way to prolong having your natural teeth. Yes some people are unfortunate to have the hereditary background for teeth problems. But if you are one of these people, don’t give up and stop taking care of your teeth. Infections are very dangerous and good hygiene can help prevent them. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I too considered the role of inheritance. I learned that the thickness of the enamel is inherited and that determines how well the enamel holds up to certain foods. Small jawbone plus early arrival of wisdom teeth can result in crooked, crowded teeth. But good oral hygiene is important for more than just preserving the health of one's teeth.

It can also have a lot to do with estrogen levels during pregnancy or things like insulin resistance and diabetes, all of which can have a genetic component. When doctors speak to their patients, they tend to leave out sharing the effects that certain conditions can have on your teeth, gums, and the production of saliva or even the PH in the mouth. Such things often aren't mentioned with it comes to side effects of medications either. SO MANY things can contribute to issues with teeth.

I’m currently 53 & had nearly perfect teeth & gums up until the age of 40. Only had one small filling in my entire mouth & had my wisdom teeth pulled in my early 20’s.
In the early fall of 2009, At around 6am I was riding my Harley into work on a somewhat windy country road. It was the sunrise following the full blood moon. Went around a tight blind corner & on the other side of the bend was an entire herd of deer. I had to make a split second decision to choose my pain, hopefully using the path of least resistance. I ended up going through a fence & landed in a ditch. I believe that decision saved my life that day.
My only actual injury other than minor scrapes and bruises was to my face and mouth. I did not have the wind guard on my Harley so my face broke the top of the fence. I lost several teeth & broke & cracked all the remaining top teeth. Also had damage to a few of my lower teeth.
My dental insurance from work was a complete joke. Paid 50% for basic extractions. Only covered Novocain, any other type of anesthesia like laughing gas I had to pay for in full.
Since it was more important to me to provide a roof & proper food for my 2 daughters & I was a single parent who did not receive any child support. At my full time job I earned just over the cap so did not to qualify for any assistance. Suffered like that for approx 7 years. During that time I had a couple extracted due to severe abscesses that required over a week of antibiotics ahead of time before getting pulled.
I had friends suggest to me I should quit my job or ask to be laid off or purposely get myself fired just so I could get at least some minimal repairs done. I refused to be that kind of role model to my kids.
After both my daughters had become adults & moved out to their own homes I decided to get my class A license. Drive an 18 wheeler, see the entire country & get paid to do it. I saved up a nice tidy sum of $10k plus had one of the top plans with Delta Dental. Went to a dentist that actually was recommended to me by a few of my truck driver friends. I honestly thought The nightmare of my mouth was finally going to be over.
The Dentist quoted me over $50k for the cheapest implants so I had to go with reg dentures. More appointments than I could count over a year & a half. Final result, after maxing out my insurance for both years & over $15k from me I had high end dentures that were never fitted right. They caused immediate severe pain as soon as they were in my mouth. The Dentist kept telling me that he could adjust them and they would eventually fit comfortably. After weekly appointments for the adjustments over almost almost 6 months I finally had to give up. Two years of my life & paid more money than I've ever saved in my entire life.
Continued to wear the temporary dentures that were fitted the day of my major oral surgery. All my remaining top teeth & all the damaged bottom teeth were pulled. Years later I'm still using the temps doing a dyi realign every couple months.
My mouth is in Constant pain. I always have sores somewhere in my mouth & ive Also developed CHEITIS that is so painful at times that I'm unable to eat. I also drool uncontrollably which is extremely embarrassing. My youngest daughters husband Refuses to even eat any meals with me because the state of my mouth and the way I have to eat grosses him out. My face now looks like I'm 10 years older than I am.
What completely frustrates the hell out of me to the point of complete anger is not one dentist that does any ad for dental implants is actually willing to state any price ranges. I’m sick of hearing “come on into the office for a consult. I’ve even heard a few ads that excitingly states that thay have really dropped in price & still never actually give any price ranges whatsoever 🤬
I can't allow myself to get my hopes up again just to most likely be completely ripped off again & my mouth get even worse. If that is even possible.
I'm actually glad I work as a truck driver So I spend over 90% of my time alone.
Dentists that charge almost the same price for implants as someone will pay for a house to live in & make payments over 15+ years to pay off should be ashamed of themselves. No one I know could ever Come up with that kind of money to pay up front for a dental procedure That may or may not work for them.
Dentistry should be considered a medical expense and covered under a persons medical insurance!!!

Trish I’m really sorry that you’ve had horrible experience with other dentists. Pricing is some thing that I have a whole little video about but I’ve been talking pricing openly for sometime now. Subscribe to my channel when I go live or because I talked about this often. My average price without any special consideration or agreement is 30k per jaw for zirconia. 25k for titanium. 20k for Snapin dentures. ❤️❤️❤️

Just like Wes Wayne, and because I'm a single Mama myself- I went to Affordpable Dentures and I was only able to afford the 2k dentures, but I'm beyond happy with them. Well the top denture fits like a glove and I've never liked adhesives so I've never been a fan of using them. Literally - I've had this set for 10 years and never used glue on the top and still people who have known me for years are shocked to find out that I've got dentures at all. The lowers have not been as kind, I do have to use an adhesive with the bottoms but I've grown used to it. I'd love to have implants since I'm only 38, but I'm just not comfortable spending that much money over that many years that I could end up regretting cuz I've never heard of a lifetime warranty for gany type of denture or implant. Best of luck to you, but maybe you could type up your story and make copies but include a request for pro Bono work or a discount in exchange for word of mouth advertising and/or before after pics to show their patients to drum up business. I had a friend who plead my case to a few doctors because everytime I was pregnant - my unborn child caused several vitamin deficiencies and I've had to have my mouth/teeth completely overhauled 3 times before opting for dentures this last time. Finally a dentist in the next town over agreed to revamp my smile right after my daughter was born but he agreed to do all the work for what my insurance would cover and a before and after photo release and he'd given me a stack of business cards to hand out. He was an old hippy and so generous!! Just ideas to look into. God bless

I have regular Dentures. I am so happy with them !!!! My teeth gradually got worse after having kids. Had to have some pulled. I finally decided to go to Dentures. I'm sooo glad I did. I can eat corn on the cob and apples. I haven't had to have mine realigned. Don't let a dentist talk u into expensive implants or drilling posts into ur jaw bone. To attach a denture. I am Very Satisfied with my Dentures and I don't use goopy putty to hold them in place. If u get a good fitting denture u will b so thankful u took the step into Dentures. No more spending lots of money on root canals , caps, fillings,or on partials. I went that route and finally had my teeth pulled and got Dentures. I wish I had before I spent thousands of dollars. I'm very happy with my plain old Dentures. Oh yeah. Don't believe that crap they tell u about Dentures block your tasting ur food. That's a lie !!!! Your taste buds r on your tongue !!! And ur tongue is not covered by your Dentures. I fully taste all my food , and sometimes I wish it didn't. That way I might loose some weight cause I wouldn't enjoy the taste of my food . But again I can fully taste everything I eat !!! And I truly enjoy it. So if ur teeth r bad, go to Dentures and u will b so happy u aren't dealing with tooth aches and dentists drills and spending thousands trying to save bad teeth. My dentist tried to talk me out of it too. But I was a money maker for him. Once I got my Dentures, he could not make thousands of dollars off me. If u feel u don't want to deal with bad teeth anymore don't let a dentist talk u out of it. I took the leap and so happy I did. The decision is yours.

I am now looking to replace 13 year old worn dentures. Yes over the years I had repairs due to cracks from eating ice or nuts or something and eventually your jaw shrinks so the fit changes. You can reline yourself with over the counter products. I knew nothing about zirconia or other stuff my old dentures were very nice but now I will look into less old school approach they had back in 2009 when I had top and bottom teeth extracted. It was not that big of an ordeal but fear of course was a big issue. I did have some kind of sedation which put me out of it for the extractions. Many dentists now specialize in sedation.

Yes I am getting little creative myself. I don’t have the talent to make my own set. I found on Etsy sellers that make dentures. I do my impression kit at home send it back. Then they send me full set for $200. I still have not had all my teeth pulled yet. My husband is disabled so this is what I can afford. In few years I probably will get better set. I am going to be able to smile again. I can’t wait.

Valuable information. My mom had temporary acrylic and she hate it, tar from food resided at the base of the teeth and she could not remove it during brushing. She now has teeth made of zirconia and she is very pleased with it. The teeth made of zirconia are much more expensive and heavier than acrylic but they are sharper to cut the food, have no black spots at the base of the teeth, and are easy to clean. It is important to find a good lab.

The problem with the titanium is yes, they are super strong but that’s also something that’s bad about it, the way my surgeon explained it to me is that if you bite down on something super hard with the titanium it’s going to rip the whole implant and break the bone and won’t be replaceable. But with the acrylic teeth they’re made to break on purpose because it’s much better than if you are going to break some thing By biting down too hard it’s better to break a replaceable acrylic tooth rather than breaking all the bone in your face is the actual implant is!

Its true that all-on-x is usually the best solution for patients. But here are some advantages of a removable denture:
    1. Much cheaper than all-on-X. A removable can cost around 2-5K per arch. All-on-X can cost around 15K-20K. If you get both upper and lower, its around 30-40K. If you get a denture from dental school, you can get a good one for less than a grand.
    2. A lot easier to clean. You have use a special floss to clean an All-on-X bridge, and that's only if the all-on-x was designed well to be cleanable. Implants also have to be cleaned religiously by the patient, almost more than you would with real teeth. With all-on-X, you must come in every year to have it removed and cleaned by the dentist.
    3. You could have irritation/allergic reaction, but you won't get anything like a gum disease. Implants are notorious for developing infection because the rough metal is a perfect shelter for bacteria. Implant specialists would like to say that implant success rate is 95%. That is very misleading, because they are talking about implants that don't "completely fail". In reality, implants often have problems and complications, as often as around 45% of patients who received implants have at least one complication in a given year: "Derks J. J Clin Periodontol. 2015 Apr;42 Suppl 16:S158-71." If you replace a denture, you pay about 2K or less. If you replace an implant, its about the same price. But that is just one implant. If you replace 2 implants, thats around 3-4K.
    Also a few corrections:
    1. Most of your taste buds are on your tongue, soft palate, and throat. Only a very few are present on the hard palate, which is what the removable denture covers. You wouldn't have a lot of difficulties tasting really, its more of just discomfort due to the acrylic covering the palate.
    2. Implants do not prevent bone loss. It only slows it down by a large extent.
In the long run, if you can afford it, I would recommend getting an all-on-x. But not everyone can afford it, and patients should be given all of the information they need to know, including the hygiene methods, advantages of a removable, possible complications of implants, and the future projected costs of taking care of removable vs implants. They deserve to know to make the right decision for themselves.

    • @implantsecrets
      @implantsecrets  4 года назад +2

Thanks for the in depth feedback and comment! All on x is definitely the best solution, but a denture is for sure better than nothing if someone cannot afford the procedure. I was so proud of myself not having had a cavity since my late 20's or early 30's and not having any missing teeth (many of my peers had a lot of missing teeth early on). When I got to my mid 60's I began to have bone loss. Little by little my teeth fell out on their own, one by one until I was left with only three teeth. This is all on my uppers. My bottom teeth are still in and very strong with no detected bone loss. For the past 2 1/2 years I have been wearing a bridge but, I know that soon those last 3 teeth will give in. I am not happy with the thought of dentures but, it is what it is. I would have loved to have implants but, with bone loss that's impossible, so I have been told, and it makes sense. The problem is not “needs” or “wants” it’s cost. I have many medical issues with my spine alone and then my teeth started breaking. All of my issues started after gastric bypass which I only chose to do because I was literally dying. I was told if I didn’t have the surgery I would die in a year. My triglycerides alone was over 1200 and no matter how much weight I lost on my own none of my numbers were improving. So there I was 4 years out from surgery I was doing great I was getting my steps in everyday working with a personal trainer and I lost 9 sizes but I was starting to faint a lot, I failed a tilt table test and then I started with debilitating spine issues. So every year since surgery I had to go back in for exploratory surgery to see what was wrong. We found my calcium and vit d levels were very low regardless of how much I took each day. So last December I had to have a spinal fusion in thee lumbar area then a few months later had to have all my teeth removed and now I am not only sitting in immediate dentures I am looking needing further spine surgery as I cannot move but also getting dentures, would love to have the “Mercedes” of dentures but just not affordable at all. And I am only 45 and my doctor has deemed me “permanently” disabled. And on top of disc degenerative disease in my whole spine I am also a few numbers from osteoporosis. So no some of us do not have any options when it comes to what would be best with tooth replacement, and by all means I am not blaming you for that. Great video though very informative and everything my doctor has explained to me as well. And by all means I’m not trying to discourage anyone from any weight loss surgery, I knew the risks and I just fell into the very small percentage of things that go wrong. But without it I would have never got to hold my first grandchild, my grandson is the apple of my eye, I have not been able to pick him up and hold him since he was 2. But overall it was worth it.

@@jesuslovesyou8280 I don't know if you'd been fortunate enough to get some dentures yet, but there is kits that you can buy online to make your own at home, and video's on you tube to show you how. the kits run around $100.00. there your basic denture, and will save you several hundred dollars. the kits come with everything you need, and are a true dental appliance. not just cosmetic. they're very much the same as to what many people have already. However, if you can afford to let a professional dentist set you up. you should be better off. most of them make a mold, then create a wax denture, you come back in a week or so after your mold is made, then they try them in your mouth for a fitting. when you have them fit perfect, and you're happy with how they look. they send to to a company that takes the wax denture, and create a true denture for you. the dentist can then readjust as needed when getting the final fitting. A dentist will usually charge between $700.00 to $11,000.00.
I hope this information helps, Peace..

So the dentist had a top plate denture made, when his office called and had me to come bk in he just stuck that denture in my mouth and there was nothing happening he put some denture stuff on and shoved it in my mouth. he said go home and work with it to get it to stay in my mouth. That cost was a $1000 dollars. Still got that upper denture under my bathroom cabinet... his office never called me about coming in for a bottom plate. So I was embarrassed to go around anybody and I still am so I spend 90% of my life in my apartment do to having no teeth and my health.... so evertime I go out I have to wear my mask do to my heart and my lungs... so someday I will go to a different dentist and get me some dentures ....

I'm a retired dental hygienist and I would suggest that people who are still working and have some dental insurance consider this as a long-term strategy: If you're told you need a root canal, ask the dentist if an implant and crown could be done instead. A tooth with a root canal becomes brittle over time, will need a crown to prevent breakage, and very well still may break eventually. I saw this many times during my career. That will necessitate a buildup and crown and maybe a redo of the root canal. That's if there's enough tooth left for it to be saved. Consider proactively looking into replacing that tooth with an implant and crown. For people who were not blessed with good teeth, this may prepare them to more easily move into implant-supported dentures later on in life. It would cost more initially but in the long term would save money, time, and discomfort.

So, when people do NOT take care of their mouths/teeth and suffer the consequences, then it’s time to blame Dentistry for perceived high costs. It’s funny that somehow most folks will go out and purchase a new car which nowadays costs over 30K, but have a fit when they see the costs involved in trying to obtain what they’ve lost from years of neglect. It costs a whole lot of money to get through college and then dental school and then a ton of money to equip a dental office as well. Overhead in dentistry is large and it costs a lot to run a dental practice. It is difficult work and often not really appreciated due to a lack of value for what modern Dentistry has to offer. DDS

Buying a commodity that’s “standardized” in a another country makes sense but this isn’t a commodity. It’s something that can have so many complications in the short run but most importantly complications in the long run. When these complications arise, returning back to the country is very inconvenient as well as the fact that they aren’t held to the same standard as here in the USA. They aren’t obligated to modify, repair or fix problems. Where would you turn in this unfortunate situation? What makes it further frustrating is that most dentists don’t like to build on others work. I would never want to build on an implant that hasn’t gone through the testing and approval from governing bodies. It’s so much more complicated than most would understand.
Yes, it’s More expensive here in America but here in America you have rights that protect you as a consumer..laws and regulations that protect you against doctors using cheap materials that last a few years and then need replaced.

1- complete acrylic upper dentures are very well tolerated when made correctly, easily 80%+ people will manage just fine with one - a lower is different and a complete lower denture will likely be poorly tolerated and implants would be recommended by me also
2- the bone will resorb the same regardless of whether implants are present or not, only bio implants can prevent this which are still experimental so that point is irrelevant
3- taste is barely affected by covering the palate there are no taste buds on the palate, some people get a strong plastic taste but most don’t, and a cobalt chrome base can be used if the thickness or taste of the acrylic is an issue
This is clearly a video designed to upsell the most expensive prosthetics and as a general rule start with the most minimal treatment that is usually the cheapest and see if you can manage before spending very large sums of money

    Dentist here.
I disagree about cost of relines. Overdenture on snap-ons is the easiest to keep clean, especially for seniors with declining dexterity.
Zirconia, being the hardest "can take so much more pressure". If the terminal brunch is too strong the breakdown moves to a higher level: sore muscles, TMJ, opposing teeth wear etc. The amount of build up under the screw-retained denture is big, especially for people whose oral hygiene was low to start with (that's how they loose teeth). One professional removal of screwed denture will be more expensive than a reline.

If anything went wrong subsequently, I would be charged £200 an hour and I don’t know how many hours! Also I had to see a hygienist every 3 months, if my memory serves me right and they charged £76 per session for this. There may have been other charges. Just for two implants (with a pig's bone surgery as there was not enough original bone structure), the bill was phenomenal. The whole procedure was long winded and full of pitfalls, and NO GUARANTEES WHATSOEVER! Ever since, I have kept far away from entertaining any further thoughts of implant surgery.

I’m asking because there are reports of people who have Metal Allergies & after getting these Dentures containing metal ( the reports don’t list ALL the metals that are used) they are having serious problems with repeat infection/allergic reactions & that it’s due to 1or more of the metals used to create the implants/dentures. Many people, myself included, have allergic reactions to Nickel ( think cheap jewelry) & other metals, many people are unaware they even have a metal allergy. So, in the samples you are showing here do any of them contain Nickel ? Also I would appreciate it if all Dentists would advocate for better Dental Health Insurance & more affordable prices as they would get a better response from Congress than the average citizen. We’ve done our part by contacting all our government representatives, Now it’s the Dentists turn to advocate for us, after all we are the ones providing you with a very very generous income.

We will we want to make sure the patient is in good enough health to have a successful outcome. A few of our patients did what we asked and we found out they had diabetes and one found out he had lung cancer. So yes it is vital to know that our patients are healthy enough for this procedure. It is in the best interest of our patients.

I've had the same upper denture 26 years, no movement, no relines, fits just as good as new. I had a denturist do it. Maybe they know dentures. Still have most of the lower teeth. I've never had any trouble eating apples etc.
