I have eight tooth implants, the first ones were done about 14 years ago plus two in the last three years. Not had any problems at all and all is well.
Same here - no problems with my implants but loads with my remaining teeth since having all my amalgam fillings removed😂 I will have more implants if I need to 🤷♀️
I am a transplant patient for 25 years. 15 years ago, I had to pull one of my teeth, the one beside the canine, my dentist sent me to a specialist who pulled the tooth and told me that we have to wait at least 6 months to grow the bone, but after 6 months, he asked me to wait another 6 months to have the bone of the jaw fully grown. After a full year, it was time to drill a hole in the jaw bone, all his equipments were covered with sheets and everything sterilized because due to my transplant , I had no immunity, and drilling in my bone was a dangerous proposition. While drilling, I had a drip in my arm with antibiotic, until the job was done, then he placed a screw and sent me home with more antibiotics for 2 weeks, then I had to see my own dentist to fit a tooth on the screw. The implant is great, I never had any issue with it. Let me remind you, that each time I go to the dentist, I have to take 4 x500 mg of Penicillin , 1 hour before any work done and that since I had my organ transplanted. I am the perfect example that implants works even on an immunosuppressed patient.
Yes patients like myself are not good candidates for implants. I had untreated gum disease. Along with decay and abscesses. That spread beyond the tooth. Along with my fear of the dentist. I am getting removable dentures. Sometime this fall and I am happy with my decision.
I’m a retired dentist with an IMPLANT that has been working wonderfully! I had patients that had implants for a couple decades+ with no problems! The implants do take additional homecare, but they are WONDERFUL!
I,ve had implants for the last 36 years, the whole lower jaw 5 implants and a whole lower bridge, this gave me back self estime, and a nice smile again, and not the least, facility to eat anything. Miracle solution for me.
What options are there besides implant? A bridge will destroy healthy teeth and ultimately they fail because the supporting teeth decays and break under stress and there's gum atrophy. Dentures are the only safe choice but it's just cosmetic with no functionality and is inconvenient. Implant is a godsend as this didn't exist back in the 90s. It was primitive back in the day. So we're lucky to have implant as an option. It's not perfect but it's the best option if the conditions are right.
@@agarqueen9126 Water flossing, peroxide rinses, and be careful what you eat. Get your teeth cleaned every 3 to 4 months. Infection is what you want to prevent.
The most rational dentist on youtube so far. I've got three implants, and yes, I am the ideal candidate and it all worked out well. My dentist explained everything clearly and I knew what I was getting into . All good.
I have to put 4 at 28years old (well not quite at 28, because i will have to wear braces for couple of years because i have open bite). What worries me a lot is because i will be still young when i place the implants that it won't serve me for the rest of my life (and at older stage of my life i might not be eligible for new pair). This decision is pretty hard to make, and i'm aware that the alternative is not better.
@@ristekostadinov2820My 2 implants have been excellent. One I have had for 25 years, the other for 15 years. I look after my teeth. (I didn't when I was a teenager and have paid the price ever since). I brush my teeth before bed, floss them and then use a water pick. Sometimes in the morning if my throat is sore I chew some Pur gum with Xylitol and that clears it up. Otherwise I just floss during the day if something gets lodged in my teeth. If your dentist recommends implants, I think that you should consider doing that. They usually send you to a specialist and do a lot of X-rays and consultation first. Expensive, but worked for me.
Two implants, 30 yrs. Don't listen to this video. Get implants and get really good ones. Go straight for the best specialist in town. Never try cheap or you will regret it.
I applaud you for this video, this is what implant advertisements should bring up instead of vague talk to your dentist. Implants are great technology but not for all people. A video like this helps people set expectations of whether implants will be appropriate for them, or even whether they are even worth exploring.
My husband died one week after he had his treatment completed. Then I found out my neighbor's brother had the SAME experience. HE died as soon as his treament was completed. I think it was too traumatic for him. He had been getting his 'meals' through a drinkking straw for quite along time. My hjsband had the best teeth in the church yard and a hole in the bank account of tens of thousands of dollars down the drain, paid the week of his funeral.
Thankyou ma'am for enlightening me, now i will not regret for not doing dental implants due to my diabetes. Very detailed information and fair. God bless you 🙏
76 years old here, I had my lower jaw equipped with 5 implants 36 years ago, that support all the theets, due to bad care in my childhood, at 40 I had the implants installed, and couldn,t be happier since then, it,s true that it needs a little more care , never had any bad experience , I go to the dentist twice a year for cleaning, cost in 1988 $9000.00
Priorly, I had some teeth removed by an orthodontist when I was 12, to ostensibly make room for braces. The result was a collapsed looking lower face when my teeth all moved backwards to fill the empty spaces. Disaster. So, when I was 45 I had the front 6 uppers and lowers all pulled and replaced with implants, all angled correctly. I regained forward projection of my lower face and Philtrum and I regained a fuller looking mouth and top lip. It no longer looks like my face froze while sucking a lemon. I've never looked back with the tooth implants I got 10 years ago, AND I had them done in Cambodia !!! So, I didn't have to sell my house in Sydney to pay for them. I love my wild west implants !!!
Had beautiful veneers done 18 years ago. That Dentist died. Had a new dentist tell me I needed to replace silver filling in molar, and that was the start of all my problems! She said it shouldn’t be refilled that I needed a half crown. It felt high and ended up not not staying on so she put a full crown. From the beginning, I always complained because it still felt high, she said it wasn’t. Two years later that failed and had to have it pulled and implant done by yet another dentist who said I needed to replace all my 6 veneers with crowns, which I should’ve never done, plus he added four more crowns to my back teeth one of them was the new implant. After he was done whittling down all my teeth, the back last molar I had on top, he said he did that too and he’ll throw that in for free. He tells me this after the fact. There was nothing wrong with that last molar. He must’ve nicked it or done something bad to it when he was whittling down all my other teeth. I feel every single one of these crowns and they do not feel normal. One comes off about every six weeks and last week I had 2 fall off within hours of each other. I feel like I’m being set up to get all implants. I honestly don’t know what to do. I’m on my seventh Dentist. I had beautiful teeth! This situation has has taken my life away, not to mention the cost, tens of thousands. My whole family has been affected by this situation. This prosthodontist is now charging me every time one of his crowns falls off. I can’t eat without getting food stuck everywhere. Crowns are way worse than veneers. It is bullshit when they say, oh if your veneer won’t stay on, you need a crown. Don’t do it! I have not found one dentist in Florida that has not done me great harm. I don’t know what to do 😭😫😤🤷🏻♀️🙏
Thanks for this. It seems to explain why my implant just fell out after 5-6 years, though my dentists claimed they had no idea why. I have been unwilling to repeat the experience, but the destructive procedure to put in a bridge also gives me pause. Now I’m going around without a back molar, at age 70. I have a newer implant that I’m afraid will go the same route. 😖
My aunt is on bisphosphonates and had maxilla osteomyelitis after the implant (now under control). It was removed. To make matters worse, another relative with complete remission prostate unmentionable disease had bone metastases a few months after undergoing implant procedure (his oncologist suspected that this may have triggered it). I'd add people with metal allergies and adverse reactions to foreign materials also.
bisphosphonates has a warning about the jaw,[ and the femurs, as they can spontaneously break] and you have to be off of them for 3 months before a dental procedure. I tried them for a very SHORT time and had constant stomach issues and I immediately disposed of them. I found something much better and more effective for bone growth.
Some dentists aren’t good at doing this procedure. The oral surgeon must check to see how much bone you have in the site and replace with enough bone if needed.
Ok, I’ve had one implant that cost me 5,000$ 15 years ago. It would have worked great but the fancy dentist was having a bad day and the post went into my gum crooked! He said it would be no problem! All I would need is a special crown. That cost another 2 grand. I use an electric toothbrush and I’m convinced that it shakes the screw lose so I’ve had to have it re adjusted a few times! Just make sure you do your research
What a scam. That dentist was planning on it failing and screwing you for another $2000. There should be a two way commitment that makes the dentist liable for bad dentistry and the patient liable for poor hygiene care etc.
I had my first implant in 1985 in Montreal. I had three more in Canada and NZ over time until 2003. Recently, I've had eight more in the UK. All this work was successful except for one rejection - that only required a plan change and more time. I am very happy with the result, but I would say that that amount of work is not for the fault hearted. I always had outstanding dentists. My initial problem was exasperated by bruxing in my sleep, which in my case was severe - I was never aware that I had the problem. It caused a distortion in my bite that was complicated to correct. I now wear a comfortable mouth guard every night and see a dental hygienist regularly every few months. If you are considering this procedure, it is my opinion (using my case as an example) that it was well worth it.
Please tell me what manufacture of mouth guard. I will need one when I am done with my implant [s] procedure.I have used them in the past but they were not particularly "comfortable". Thanks
Bruxism while sleeping can be severe, especially if one has poor bite. Implant is simple 1 post screw, not 2-3 root of natural tooth. Wish implants had better designed posts for ppl with bruxism bc in time, it’ll def adversely affect implant, regardless of hard plastic custom mouth guard.
I've been a type 2 diabetic for thirteen years , had a bridge done with 2 implants six years ago with no problems whatsoever. The whole process took about 9 months.
Good luck. My dentist told me my implant would be good for over twenty years. It lasted four, and now the abutment screw has seized up and can not be removed to fit a new crown.
I absolutely agree..to cut a long, painful, frustrating story short...I ended up being rushed to hospital by an excellent dental surgeon ( not my dentist) who insisted and undertook to immediately remove ALL my teeth...implants are NOT for everyone be aware and it saved my life..people are not aware that teeth/ gum infections can cause death..imagine abcesses etc.going into your blood to your heart & brain!!! Now with dentures am very happy and clear of infection!!!!THANK YOU make people aware....if in doubt get a 2nd opinion!!!!❤
I wasn’t hospitalized but. I did have infection spread to bone. Dental infection is nothing to mess around with. Dental care needs to be accessible and affordable for everyone. I hope you are recovering.
Had a bone graft and implant same time, by student perio dental at Major Dental School. Wound up 5 nights in the ICU!! Infection that spread underneath my neck and was continuing, save for loads of IV anti-biotic!! Now I am in no mans land, facing a bill from the school, physician thought it could re-infect along the line, there is swelling in the back. One DMD they brought in, keeps saying the implant looks 'clean', and what does this mean? Here she says no membrane around implant, nothing to protect from bacteria, and already bone forming around the implant. It is 2 months since placement. He also did have to pull upper molar, and did graft, waiting on that result. I really want implants for two upper teeth too, but worried, can't stand this, and fear more bone loss!
@@lailaansari7293 why get that crap it costs a fortune you better get a good dentist some of them are butchers. I just get a denture wtf your gonna die anyway who needs it
I’ve had an implant for 35 years and is the best tooth in my mouth. I have many crowns because of dry mouth caused by radiation that ruined the enamel on all my teeth. Fluoride treatments are toxic. I wish i had all implants that the constant maintenance that goes along with crowns. I have a total of 5 implants without a problem and do have osteoporosis.
Implants are advised as gold standards, just remember an implant is a titanium screw into your bone, and if your screw threads are at the top of the abutment are exposed they can and will harbor bacteria that will eventually eat away at the bone, and if your dentist does not catch your bone loss in time you will be forced to remove your expensive implant. And they will recommend bone grafting and starting all over. And the price is double to triple your original implant. Measure the pros and cons strongly because you don’t want to regret it like I do.
Excellent video! Unfortunately, I can relate to a lot of it about implant failure. When I got my implants, I received little patient education and I really didn't understand how to take care of them and didn't ask questions. I wish I had had access to videos like this one and others but resources like RUclips were either in their infancy, didn't exist, or I didn't know about them.
What a comprehensive overview. Hopefully I'll never need tooth implant but this is great information just to apply to dental health if you want to keep your own teeth
well done .& simple summary for most to understand . I concur .there are just so few Dentist talk about this to their patients instead seeing more & more one way promotion to the implant as if miracle treatment ,while loosing teeth isn't a big deal any more .Few have any mention what happen if implant fail . UCLA has done a few of these studies ,but solution isn't ideal ,result are traumatizing.
I was proposed one by the evil Spa John’s Hopkins run dentistry in Aramco. Said no as it was just before a vacation in Philippines . Ther I had a post and cap as the root was sound. It’s still ok 12 years later !
So-- what do you suggest if an implant isn't an option? You just are stuck without a tooth? Won't that also cause bone loss over time-- not having a tooth there to support the bone?
I’m not saying never have an implant but to make sure you are suitable If an implant is not an option there are bridges and dentures but yes the bone will shrink without loading on it
Teeth will also shift with time when there is a gap. This shift can cause issues with upper and lower teeth alignment, causing problems with biting and chewing. Bridges can be dangerous if not kept clean underneath. The bridges that press slightly into the gums are better than those hovering slightly above them. An endodontist is a good option for a professional opinion.
@@NorsePJ haha I have had a gap from a missing molar for 35 years. The dentist said the gap might close but after 25 years of age they don't move as much. The gap doesn't bother me at all.
I lost an upper Bi cuspid tooth about 30 years ago. My dentist suggested an implant, however my dental plan would not cover it. So I got a 1 tooth denture made. My dentist drilled a couple of notches to hold it in place and then put it in. I never realized that the denture was going to go across the roof of my mouth and refused to wear it. Thankfully my dentist did not charge me. He then proceeded with the next option, a Bridge, which involved attaching it to the tooth in front and behind. I broke it within a year or 2 and it tore off the top of the rear tooth it was attached to. So I had to get that rebuilt and then I opted for an implant at my own expense. I have had it and about 15 years ago had another implant on the opposite side. They are both doing fine and I think for me that they are by FAR the best solution.
Excellent timing. I've had two teeth extracted in the last month due to infection, #19 and #31. Both had crowns and 19 was root canal'd many years ago. I'm considering ceramic implants. I'd like to know more about those vs titanium implants.
Thank you so much for your informative video. Dental is very high maintenance. Even with going to a pero for 19 years and regular dental appointments I still have lost some tooth on either side of the mouth. Luckily they don't show. Unfortunately in Australia it is not worth getting insurance so a lot of people have bad dental health even young people. I am 69 and have only had my wisdom teeth out. So I think I am doing pretty well.
It is the same thing here in the United States. Dental insurance is expensive. It doesn’t cover much. So large number of people including. Young people have teeth trouble. Everyone needs teeth to be healthy. It should be affordable and accessible for everyone. I am sorry about your teeth trouble.
Recommendation: In case of doubt, or if you wish a qualified and independent second opinion / treatment, it's actually always advisable to consult a university dental clinic.
😱😩😩 i have 4 implants left, i m 55, i just lost one, due to an infection around it , loss of bone... bcause tge dentist didnt check regularly !! Now i m afraid..😩😩
If you have MS or anyone in your family, has it do not ever get a implant or a root canal. Your body fights against it like a foreign body and begins to fight against your own body. I found out the hard way.
A well planned , computer guided implant, fitted by a good prosthetic lab would , in normal or slightly robust gums, present no source of infection to the body, thus , implants are quite different to root canals which indeed are necrotic/cadaveric tissue connected to your blood supply.
I lost my second upper molar and put an implant there 6 months ago and I'm loving it. Looks wonderful, feels just like a normal tooth. All of my teeth are vital except for the implant. I would never have a root canal done or keep a dead tooth in my mouth. Mine (Zenex) is a high grade modern titanium but if you have the financial resources for it, a last generation zirconium would be even better. My crown is zyrconia.
I have 5 tooth implants, two last over 10 years, two over 5 years, one gets infected and removed then replaced new implant. All are very good and without any problem.
I had an implant to replace a molar. It lasted about four years until the bone underneath the implant grew enough to cause the crown to break ...and now my useless dentist can not remove the abutment screw to replace the crown. The procedure cost me around 5k...and to be honest, I am not impressed.
I am so very sorry. All my teeth were removed six months ago. I have been having huge pity party. For myself about not having any teeth. Because I am embarrassed. Which is nothing compared to what you are going through. I hope someone can fix it for you. At little cost and minimal discomfort.
Great points all doc! Also key to healing infections of the gums is reducing eliminating carbs, as we’ve all been told by our good doctors that sugar promotes the bacteria that rot teeth!
@@ceeemm1901 I’ve had 4 implants and haven’t had any issues……yet. I got 3 of them 8yrs ago and then the last one 5yrs ago. I was told recently that I need a root canal on a tooth and have been considering just getting it pulled to have an implant put in. I’ve learned over the years and a lot of money later that once the root canal is done, the tooth dies and becomes weak. A crown is always needed after the root canal and then several years later, the whole tooth will break off at the gum, only leaving the root. Then you have to get the root cut out and an implant put in. To skip ahead, I think I’m going to just get the implant put in after getting the tooth pulled. Any advice is welcomed… thanks in advance!
I have a few. One ‘touched’ my upper sinus and I did not care for that. A fried had nerve damage. When the dentist drilled into my skull freehand, I did not wish to continue, but have had the three. More recommended, but I resist. Wish there’s were better options…very medieval still.
Thank you for the Great information! I've considered implants for years. I have 4 missing teeth and am aware of the time and expense. However, after watching your video, I can opt for 2 bridges and 2 implants. The only reason I considered 4 implants at first was, previously, with bridges, I could Never floss between my teeth; pretty annoying. That was over 20 years ago. I hope with all the advance technology that, bridges have improved? Are there dentists who make bridges now where you can floss between your teeth? Hope to get answered soon. Want to start dental work spring 2025. Many Thanks!
She said something that makes me doubt her FUD. At the age of 40, my wife had a molar pulled and replaced with an implant and the entire procedure was less than 6 weeks, not 6 months to a year. It's been 11 years now and she's never experienced any problems with it.
I know one person who got it all done in one day, and it worked out fine for her. Everyone is different, though. I had 3 implants done over several years. My dentist told me I was a great candidate. Either he lied, or he was an idiot. I am diabetic and have multiple other health problems, including several autoimmune disorders. Every implant failed. Two of them came out on their own. The last one broke inside the jawbone and a surgeon had to remove it. Much of the other work he did failed, crowns came off, things fell apart. I now have few upper teeth and can't chew anything, after paying about $20,000 (USD) for all the work he did. What did my new dentist ask me? He asked if I would be interested in permanent dentures. I had to walk out before I did something I shouldn't. I took excellent care of my implants. It didn't matter because I had so many other health problems. I'm just going to have to accept the loss and get an upper denture. I'm horribly depressed and just heartsick over it.
Titanium atomic number 22 but zirconium is 40. Photoelectron production is proportional to 4th power. So zirconium is serious secondary radiation source.
My first implant was lower jaw. Hurt like hell. Felt like it was wooden when tapped. Eventually normal. 2nd was upper jaw/skull. Hurt like hell. It didn't take. Sooo painfull to remove. 6 months we tried a bigger one. It didn't take. Hurt soooo bad extracting. PTSD. He installed a bridge which has been replaced after 5 years. No regrets with the implants. Regrets with the bridge because the dental assistant said they have to damage damage two good teeth to fix the missing one. Like she said, implants are not for every one.
I am considering going to Mexico where the cost is about 1/3 of the cost in the USA. I am doing a heavy amount of research. Turkey is also another country that is well known for this procedure and it is about 75% less than in the USA.
@@denisedoherty4909 I was thinking I'm going to Mexico also, because I heard the dental work is so good, but she's saying that implant work takes months. how would that work question mark?
I had my teeth pulled seven months ago. I just got my dentures on Thursday. They fit and look nice. I can eat and smile. It was the right decision for me. I am happy with my new smile.
You can buy cheap plastic grains. Melt them in hot water and put them into the gap with some forming and, adjusting. Just buy online for 10 USD. I did put out them when eating, but they can sit good too, when not taken out. Possibly you can eat with them too? Only for one tooth gap.
At first i am very positive when my dentist said "no surgery" and then "only minimum surgery" will be performed in my implant procedure, they said I only need to do bone graft but noww I'm just being told that they will do sinus lift too, I actually ask about sinus in my 1st visit when I get my 3D scan but sadly they are not being transparant eith everything..😢 I also explain that i have a trauma with any dental related surgery before..I also have bruxism. I still can't get rid of my trauma & anxiety, My dentist said I need to face my trauma but easy to say for people who never have a trauma like mine 😢
What is another viable choice if you have no tooth on both sides to connect a crown for example. The implant might be the only option. In my case the only option if I want to be able to chew on the left side. I might have to consider an implant.
I wasn’t a healthy patient though I thought I was. The implants didn’t take and I had them removed. Now I know they won’t work for me. In the future I will have the glue in type dentures with no anchors. Oh well, no problem. Good luck to all.
I went today for wax try in to check my bite. Everything went fine. The fit was good. I had my teeth pulled in March. No immediate dentures. Nothing wrong with having dentures.
these side effects are rare in the United States. Most people who have issues with the implants is due to just having a dentist do it who is not a surgeon. I recommend having a surgeon. Most dentists also will give you antibiotics fo a bit to prevent infection
they are more common than many people realise and I agree regarding the surgeon. I refer all my patients who want implants to a specialist to ensure the best placement. But if health is compromised or the implant not well maintained complications will occur during the life span of the implant. Bone graft failure is also quite and issue.
PLEASE HELP! As a result of a car accident that fractured C1 as I reached my 50s my teeth were damaged. Once my prosthetic to deal with my spinal issue was removed I started having my teeth repaired. This went on and on until I decided to have my teeth removed and get dentures. I have no idea whether I bruxed before I did this but I bitterly regret it. My bruxing goes on all day! I remove my dentures if I am not going out in public to try and minimise the damage to the dentures because I need new dentures every two years. The WHO have decided that one should only need new dentures every 4 years. My dentist has tried motivating that I require them every two years to no avail. I have tried needling by a chiropractor which helped slightly but my lower dentures are once again ground right down to the pink stuff. IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN STOP THE BRUXING? At least I didn't go for implants thank goodness but this is the one thing in my life I would change if I could go back. My mouth is perpetually sore because of this.
I have had my implant for 5 years with no issues, I take good care of the area, however I am healthy with no underlying issues mentioned above - I would have been refused the procedure- I had bovine bone graft, it was a careful long procedure
I'm 57. My orthodontic journey has become a nightmare! Braces quote $8K. Oral surgery to remove baby teeth quote $4K. What do you do if you have lost three molars on one side? I have an implant on left side lower 2nd molar, no 1st molars up and down in front of 2nd molars. About to have my upper 2nd molar extracted due to a failed root canal that cracked at the root. Now. What? I was thinking of getting an implant and its place in a few months after it’s healed. I’m also very conscientious what I eat and how I chew. I don’t eat anything hard either. I’m stuck! Any advice would be appreciated. I am going to get assessed by my holistic dentist who is very skilled with implants. I was hoping I could get implants in my first upper and lower. I don’t know if I have enough bone but will find out. I’m sure they don’t make dentures for upper lower molars? Can you live without molars on one side. If afraid I’ll get TMJ if I don’t have options ?
In this situation so long as your bone is sturdy and you are healthy I'd go with an implant as you have too many missing teeth to try and overcompensate on the other side of your mouth and risk damage to your remaining teeth and TMJ
@@EvolveDentalHealing Thank you for your reply! Worst case scenario, if I didn’t have enough bone would they graft it? Is that always possible or is there some cases they cant graft?
The biodentists I have consulted with finally agree that I shouldn't get implants because my root canals are absessed and I have an immune deficiency, and likely low blow flow in that area due to jaw surgery years ago. Should I still get bone grafts to fill the holes? These are canines and central incisors with super long roots which were damaged from the jaw surgery. (I did one IV of ZA for cancer 2 years ago.)
@@cindianderson9443 it’s an aesthetic area where boneloss can really affect the face shape. Especially important in the canine area, prf with bone graft will retain the most bone structure to prevent that gaunt, sunk in face look. Sounds like you’re in good hands
I tried my first (and only) here in Florida (the free-for-all state). That was my mistake, nothing but quacks here. The "Oral Surgeon" who did my implant drilled the jaw unguided and drilled through the lingual plate. I didn't know this and during the initial healing process a hematoma developed around that tooth. Read about this and when I went back in to ask if this is what happened, he lied and said "I don't think so". I sent pictures to the owner of his group who said to come in and see him. He showed me the x-ray that clearly showed the puncture. He asked if I wanted to redo it and I told him to take it out and I'd never come back. Florida.......Quacks.
I had 2 implants recently. Went fine. I have another 2 coming up early next year which might be problematic. They're up against the sinus membrane discussed here. I don't want the membrane perforated during the surgery obviously. How difficult would it would it be to place the balloon first and how much healing is required for it? Thanks.
No all wisdom teeth need removing, if they are impacted and/or infected around the gum area because of poor eruption or position then they should be removed. if they come through properly no need to extract and the same applies if they are unerupted and causing no problems and all looks normal on xray.
I agree. Everyone shouldn't get implants. Not all dentists and doctors care. I have Lupus. My rheumatologist told me that I could get implants. I researched possibility of problems. Of course, Lupus patients already deal with oral problems. Lupus patients have almost 100 percent rate for infection with invasive surgeries.
I got 2 implants and six months later a dentist closer to home did the crowns. Unfortunately he used an incorrect abutment which caused ultimately the implants to fracture. Now after all the money and pain im left with 2 holes in my mouth with 2 broken screws inside them.
I wonder by the comments if implants from decades ago were better than the ones they use today. Things are not as well made like they were in the past.
I wonder if that’s because back then implants were done by specialists and cases carefully chosen rather than now many being done by general dentists where implants have been performed as the answer to every missing tooth without as stringent case selection
I have 19 of them. The biggest problem is people get all on 4 and acrylic teeth. It’s not strong enough to support an arch of teeth and the acrylic teeth break or one or more implant fails. I had one, then got all on 8 and kept 4 natural teeth. One got infected and severe pain. So I had a dentist who cut the zirconia arch and put in 2 implants to replace the natural teeth ones pulled my upper front teeth. You can’t under do it. Had I got these pulled when I got the all on 8 I would have been fine still … implants are much better than natural teeth in my opinion. Now I have zero issues. Zero. All on 4 was invented to make it as inexpensive as possible but it’s not ideal. It’s better than dentures but be sure to talk to your dentist about it.
Zirconia bridge will be the end result for me, I asked that the lab make it with a small metal bar inside to reinforce it [ I've seen that done at a dental clinic in CA] my dentist said "maybe" he's concerned the metal might darken the permanent bridge. [ This bridge is upper front #5 through 12]

I had 2 implant fail, but now the new ones are doing well with a new type of bone graph glue or something like that, what also help was higiene , flossing after each meal, taking vitamin C, and not eating anything crunchy like seeds, nuts and crackers. And watching out for bones , now I stay away from chicken salad. I have diabetes 2 mostly under control.

try and keep your tooth or if not look at other options like a denture or bridge. I'm not against implants but people need to be aware of the limitations and risks
@@EvolveDentalHealing -A bridge involves shaving down healthy teeth on either side so that is not advisable. A denture involves the loss of bone, so not advisable either.

I bet you also have excellent oral hygiene, eat well and see your dentist regularly to ensure your implant remains stable

@@davidronson8712 But you are still young, no?
What does "transplant patient" mean? Your comment hinges on this point but I have no idea what you are referring to. A heart transplant??
What kind of additional homecare is needed?

The most rational dentist on youtube so far. I've got three implants, and yes, I am the ideal candidate and it all worked out well. My dentist explained everything clearly and I knew what I was getting into . All good.
I've had one for 25 years... so far so good. Looking forward to listening.

People die suddenly without having implants as well, unless an autopsy confirmed it , the cause of that cannot be attributed to the implant.

The oral surgeon must check to see how much bone you have in the site and replace with enough bone if needed.
totally agree
Ok, I’ve had one implant that cost me 5,000$ 15 years ago. It would have worked great but the fancy dentist was having a bad day and the post went into my gum crooked! He said it would be no problem! All I would need is a special crown. That cost another 2 grand. I use an electric toothbrush and I’m convinced that it shakes the screw lose so I’ve had to have it re adjusted a few times! Just make sure you do your research
$7k for a tooth ?...moral of the story, be careful who you trust in the medical fraternity as you may have a bigger hole in your bank account.
What a scam. That dentist was planning on it failing and screwing you for another $2000. There should be a two way commitment that makes the dentist liable for bad dentistry and the patient liable for poor hygiene care etc.
Screw comes loose due to the poor angularity unfortunately.
@pattywarner omg I've had my implant for 10 years no issues I'm sorry you had to go through that
The loosening of the implant is more likely due not properly torquing ( tightening ) the screw rather than the angulation of the implant.
This was a fantastic presentation. Thank you, doctor.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello, what material are the posts and crown?
Please tell me what manufacture of mouth guard. I will need one when I am done with my implant [s] procedure.I have used them in the past but they were not particularly "comfortable". Thanks
Bruxism while sleeping can be severe, especially if one has poor bite. Implant is simple 1 post screw, not 2-3 root of natural tooth. Wish implants had better designed posts for ppl with bruxism bc in time, it’ll def adversely affect implant, regardless of hard plastic custom mouth guard.

Had my implant for about 4 years . Best thing I ever did . No problems

So-- what do you suggest if an implant isn't an option? You just are stuck without a tooth? Won't that also cause bone loss over time-- not having a tooth there to support the bone?
I’m not saying never have an implant but to make sure you are suitable
If an implant is not an option there are bridges and dentures but yes the bone will shrink without loading on it
Excellent explanation ,thank you 🌈
Teeth will also shift with time when there is a gap.
Incisor implants don’t have thick enough bone structure
They are both doing fine and I think for me that they are by FAR the best solution.
when the circumstances are right implants work well but the choice to place them needs to factor in the things I discuss in the video
Thank you for the full implant story……..very informative…
Excellent timing. I've had two teeth extracted in the last month due to infection, #19 and #31. Both had crowns and 19 was root canal'd many years ago. I'm considering ceramic implants. I'd like to know more about those vs titanium implants.
not ceramic , its called zirconia

In case of doubt, or if you wish a qualified and independent second opinion / treatment, it's actually always advisable to consult a university dental clinic.

If you have MS or anyone in your family, has it do not ever get a implant or a root canal. Your body fights against it like a foreign body and begins to fight against your own body. I found out the hard way.
Compromised immune system
Did you get a bone graft during the same procedure of the extraction of the tooth and get an implant at a later date?

She said something that makes me doubt her FUD. At the age of 40, my wife had a molar pulled and replaced with an implant and the entire procedure was less than 6 weeks, not 6 months to a year. It's been 11 years now and she's never experienced any problems with it.
@@merrillkingston8807 that is because she had no bone loss.. And the implant was easier and needed no bone grafting etc
It's the grafting of bone due to loss that takes so long. Your wife is lucky!

Thank you so much for this information. I now can make an informed decision.❤
Wonderful!
What is another viable choice if you have no tooth on both sides to connect a crown for example. The implant might be the only option. In my case the only option if I want to be able to chew on the left side. I might have to consider an implant.
Sometimes you can do a cantilever bridge where it is not held at both ends
Denture maybe.
How long did it take to realize you had to remove them?
these side effects are rare in the United States.
My mom is 77 years old. She has quite few friends. Who had bone grafts none of them were successful.
The title is misleading. This is really about whether you should get implants, not that you shouldn't get them in all cases.
Teeth grinding can often be a symptom of stress. Of course you already know that.Perhaps a visit to a therapist?
Have you heard that it will probably be possible to regrow teeth in the future? It's already been done in animals.
I have had my implant for 5 years with no issues, I take good care of the area, however I am healthy with no underlying issues mentioned above - I would have been refused the procedure- I had bovine bone graft, it was a careful long procedure
good to hear it went well. I am not against implants but the pros and cons and all factors like health need to be considered
I'm 57. My orthodontic journey has become a nightmare! Braces quote $8K. Oral surgery to remove baby teeth quote $4K. Two years in and I've already spent $18K and the 2 implants will be another $6K and it take another year at least. Fixing your mouth is expensive... and in my experience, a racket. Wish I would have just got dentures.
Excellent information!
Glad it was helpful!
I am 81 1/2 and might need an implant if an infection doesn’t heal. At my age, with an infection now, am I nuts to even consider it ?
I think if it will ensure your quality of life remains high with good functional eating its worth doing if you are in relatively good health.
@@EvolveDentalHealingjust got back from the dentist and my tooth is fractured so I couldn’t have the procedure done again for the infection. I believe I might go the route of an implant. Thank you for your help.
Good advice. No bs. 👍🤔
Always!
Great information..thank you so much..
Can you tell me what to do if I have missing 2 upper tooth . ?
Look for a dental school in your area, implants are very pricey.
(I did one IV of ZA for cancer 2 years ago.)
they can do platelet-rich fibrin injections into the socket to encourage bone growth, they can use your own blood to do this
Yes, I'm getting ozone and prf. But they still want to do hone grafts with it.
Thanks.
I would need 7 or more implants. Watchjng the procedures it is clear ghat I never will do this.
Get bicom implants, they are mini implants 3mm tall (normal implants are 7mm+) and are very non-invasive and easy to place.
Thank you. Should wisdom teeth be removed?
No all wisdom teeth need removing, if they are impacted and/or infected around the gum area because of poor eruption or position then they should be removed. if they come through properly no need to extract and the same applies if they are unerupted and causing no problems and all looks normal on xray.
@EvolveDentalHealing
Thank you!
I agree. Everyone shouldn't get implants. Not all dentists and doctors care. I have Lupus. My rheumatologist told me that I could get implants. I researched possibility of problems. Of course, Lupus patients already deal with oral problems. Lupus patients have almost 100 percent rate for infection with invasive surgeries.
you can reverse lupus... watch dr. Peter Osborne.
What a very informative video, thank you so much!
You are so welcome! 🤗
I got 2 implants and six months later a dentist closer to home did the crowns. Unfortunately he used an incorrect abutment which caused ultimately the implants to fracture. Now after all the money and pain im left with 2 holes in my mouth with 2 broken screws inside them.
oh wow that's not great.
Oh no I am so sorry.
No gurantee eg for some its ideal for other not. My teeth break i don't grind my teeth so i need implant
19 that’s a lot wow
Zirconia bridge will be the end result for me, I asked that the lab make it with a small metal bar inside to reinforce it [ I've seen that done at a dental clinic in CA] my dentist said "maybe" he's concerned the metal might darken the permanent bridge. [ This bridge is upper front #5 through 12]
I just wish I could afford them. 😢
When you don’t have money. You use Google and type in low income dental care. The state and town you live in. There should be dental clinics or charities to call. Leaving untreated dental decay. Is life threatening. Please get the teeth pulled.
Low income dental care, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't do "implants". Shame, though.@@angelaschaefer5883
I have 9
Love them
I had 2 implant fail, but now the new ones are doing well with a new type of bone graph glue or something like that, what also help was higiene , flossing after each meal, taking vitamin C, and not eating anything crunchy like seeds, nuts and crackers. And watching out for bones , now I stay away from chicken salad. I have diabetes 2 mostly under control.
@@minadoro what is wrong with chicken salad.
@@maryhunt3083 It's an animal corpse that rots inside you. Stick with plants only
If you make your own chicken salad, no need to worry about bones. Bless ya for the advice though. I need an implant in the future
@@maryhunt3083 I broke a molar and it’s root due to a small chicken rib bone on my salad. 😢 very expensive , oral surgery to remove tooth and root, and the tooth next to it, bone graft and implant , implant fail, new graph and now 2 implants this time, and now 2 crowns. Start saving!
@@maryhunt3083 I'm wondering the same thing? What is it about chicken salad? 🤔😅 Maybe celery that is sometimes included in it?
WHATS THE OPTION ?
try and keep your tooth or if not look at other options like a denture or bridge. I'm not against implants but people need to be aware of the limitations and risks
@@EvolveDentalHealing -A bridge involves shaving down healthy teeth on either side so that is not advisable. A denture involves the loss of bone, so not advisable either.
I had one molar implant 10 yrs ago 5yrs after the implant my joints started going bad. In the past 2yrs I have had 2 knee replacments an ankle and arch replacment. I have always taken care of my health; Do not smoke. Here's the thing never
before have we had solar storms like present this rod in my jaw (no other fillings) I believe acts as an antena, too close to the brain. I have consulted with 3 perio Doctors and I have been told it would destroy my jaw to try to remove it. You see we don't know how many people have dementia OR...We also are dealing with 5G and WiFi that we did not have 25yrs ago. Good luck.
We need stable chewing teeth ❤❤❤ anchored teeth. . Possibilities ????
A bridge is more affordable option as she explained in the video. I had one with no problems.
Thank you doctor!
You are welcome! Thank you

Is usa, CA city, total procedure incl titanium implant (Strauman/Nobel) = $20k- $25k cash. Insurance rarely covers implants in 2024.
