I saw this concert in Munich live. It was my last time seeing Al live and I could not be happier to live this magnificent evening. I will carry this memory for rest of my life. Rest in peace your music will be a life for ever.
Je vais avoir 60 ans et depuis mon adolescence je ne me suis jamais lassée et reste toujours amoureuse de ce mec de sa voix sa musique heureusement qu'il nous reste les disques !
I saw Al Jarreau four times in his life, the last in the city where I lived, Modesto, CA. I was the 5th or 6th person in line for an autograph and I was able to share with him that I'd seen him four times and he laughed, a bark of joy, and declared he owed me money! Untrue, of course, but it still brings tears of joy to my eyes that I got to have that short, personal exchange with him and that he's gone. It was he who sometimes gave me the only joy I had available to me while I suffered thru my life's challenges. Divorce, my mother's death from cancer, the trauma of my house fire, my son's decision that he could not be in my life. Oh! The pain. AND I was in a place where I didn't think I was going to experience joy in my life ever!" I was out of ideas as to how I was going to not just survive in my life, but thrive in my life. I was SO lonely, later living in a Homeless Shelter and somehow the Lord led me to Al's music and not only did I listen, but I sang at the top of my lungs with him in joy and I knew Every. Word. Al lifted me countless times and gave me reprieve from my depression and loneliness. My gratitude to Al is endless; I just made a new playlist and I'm looking forward to moving away from Modesto, CA to Texas and finally joining the love of my life. (I'll keep his name to myself because I don't want to share him with the world just yet - I need him just for me for a while yet.) But I can't wait to introduce him to Al's music and the story I just learned about his life and my story. I told here. In a very short period of time I'll be in a position to honor his own and his family's request of a donation to the school in Wisconsin. I always wanted to be a singer, famous and fantastic like Al, but it didn't happen for me. But perhaps my donation will assist another young musician in achieving his/her dream. So I thank you, Al, for lifting me up in those short periods of time, and giving me some joy. I miss you, but am SO grateful 🙏 you live on in the infamy of recordings. Sincerely and Lovingly, Leslie Katherine Peterson ❤️
Al Jarreau once said to not only live in the moment, but with each note of a song get inside of the note. Live within it. Feel it. Now while in my car i will play one of the songs and when i live in the note, at that moment i am free. Grant you i am at a traffic light, foot on the break and people looking at me with amazement on their face. I roll the window down and say, that's alright you can sing if you want to.
Perfect example of LIVING IN THE MOMENT! Additionally, you were inspired to prompt and encourage beings in your environment that may not have “tuned in”.
Al Jarreau, along with Bobby McFerrin, was no ordinary singer. Yes, he was an extraordinary vocalist (actually more like a multi-instrumentalist). Both Al and Bobby could perform totally solo (i.e. acapella) concerts … I can’t think of any other singer who could do that. Here, Al is with his band (young musicians … over 20 yrs ago), and this concert is like an extremely spontaneous, interesting and enjoyable conversation between a wise uncle and his bright nephews, who listen to their fave uncle attentively and respond brilliantly. What a fantastic concert!!
There aren’t many vocal artists that have or can bring me to tears like Al Jarreau does. I first thought that maybe it’s knowing that he’s now transitioned from this realm, but it’s not really that at all. It’s his incredible unique talent that won’t be surpassed anytime soon. Thank you Al. Thank you for all you’ve been to and for us.
I had the great fortune to have seen him six times live. I've completely adored this man since I was a young teen. Most celebrity deaths don't get to me quite as much as this one did. I have shed tears several times since his death. For him, for Susan, for his many friends and loved ones and for me and his fans. I feel like fans of Al Jarreau are kindred spirits. We understand how music affects us down to our souls.
If you get to see this, I could not have put it better myself. I had a photo with him in London 6 months before he passed. He'd been a part of my life since 1976.
Lucky you people! I was a year late in the Frankfurt music fair when he visited the fair for the last time the year before. Listening to almost all his works proves to me till today that he is an amazing and legendary vocalist, multifaceted musician/songwriter (not only writing a song but delivering it in unique ways, or interpreting other song in special manner), and performer. RIP, Al Jarreau, you have raised the bar of singing very high!
@Probably Cathy... That explanation would warm Al's heart. Thank you and for those kind words and the millions of fans that feel the same. Al was a man that left no stone unturned when it came to making his fans happy. He was soft spoken, kind and forever so humbled and thankfully gracious of of the mark he was leaving on others. To the point, he wouldn't pass a minute for a conversation if there was time. He made you feel as though you and him were the only one in the room. Yes, I know about those tears.. I shed them still. Please continue to pass on the love, kindness, happiness, and memories Al's left with you. Again, thank you so very much for letting us know how Al touched your heart! Share your shine with Love! 💖🙏🏽"TJ"
I was privileged to see Al Jarreau in concert his first one at Berkeley he apologized to the audience because he could not afford his trumpet section. What a night I will always remember and I'm 73 years old now thank goodness for all the albums and his magnificent backups a musicians. I hope some of you were as lucky as I to see him that night. Thank you Al!
Mr. Jarreau is a one of a kind. His musical creativity isn't something you can teach. It's either you've got IT or you don't. He had IT. RIP Mr. Jarreau
I saw this great man 3 times, twice in London and once in Sydney. Pure genius. Never nervous to take a risk he just let it flow out like a spring welling up into the gush of life at full throttle. You will be sadly missed Al.
Father of Jazz. You Gave 100% of your talent to the world. "We got by" because of you...Thank you for the Joy of music! REST IN PEACE- Our one and only........ Al Jarreau, !!!!!! .......Gone but never ever forgotten.
I adopted him as my 'Uncle Al' as a child, singing with him in my room trying to understand life and my place in it. My dream to meet and sing (well I cried mostly, lol) with him came true just months before he passed, and I thank the Divine for orchestrating that for me. And that's what he was, a Divine, loving, humble and upstanding man I'll celebrate forever. Thanks for this upload.🎉🕺🏾💕
The band is great but Al Jarreau never had a strong voice. He just whispered and imitated instruments weakly. He had a niche but I was never into him but he always had great musicians though.
@@MrAitraining "Al Jarreau never had a strong voice.." 😄You are a clown and don't know what you're talking about. ruclips.net/video/kzXNdLVZs3k/видео.html Who sings better and who has better voice control? Who else can improvise and scat like he did at the end of the song? And what about his rhythm and timing??!
I’ve loved Al’s vocal interpretations and his original written music for 40 years - and the very recent passing of Chick Corea, another one of my musical giants, reminded me how much fabulous talent we’ve lost in the past year or so. Whether he was singing jazz, more pop, or any of his improvisational scat, his love of his music, his art, translated so wonderfully to his audiences. Truly loved his energy and his talent, and how much he fed me joy and hundreds of hours of pure listening pleasure. I miss him and his music immensely !
He was the greatest performer I've ever seen perform, and I love him, I was 22 years old and now I'm 65 those were the days rest in paradise my brother, one love
Al Jarreau...the quintessential jazz vocalist. Saw him in NYC having won tix on the NY jazz station WRVR. OMG what a presence as a singer and interpreter of song...absolutely a king. the world who wasn't familiar with him will never know what they missed...I know what the world is missing now that he's gone. Loved his voice. Loved his jazz. Loved his style. "Watch" him sing!!
That lucky audience got to see the very best in jazz, the embodiment of pure musical talent; I'm JEALOUS! And Mr. Jureau, with mad ridiculous talent beyond this planet. Rest In Sweet Peace, scattin' up there in Heaven!
We saw Al in late 70s he was so awesome HAVE every album he recorded...he was a remarkable performer he use his whole body mouth lips nasal he was a " bad " man miss and love him RIP ❤
Thank you, Al Jarreau. It was a thrill seeing you take the stage so many times over the last 35+ years. Your music remains for all time. RIP Maestro, my jazzer.
Since I was a teen He always amazed me. He still does. I had the opportunity to see him perform live . I thought what talent. We lost a great one. He lives on in the great works he left behind. He was loved by so many.
When I was 13 years old, I discovered the album Glow, and I used to play it over and over on my turntable, actually every morning before I would go to school! (my brother wanted to kill me! lol). I miss you Mr Al Jarreau, I miss your voice, I miss your flow... you will be forever in my life.
I've only just discovered this Al Jarreau concert - WOWEEE! It's an unbelievable performance (for me) Al and the band doing what they did so well, create and play with the artform. So entertaining too, what an amazing contribution to the arts Al is/was :( I had the pleasure of interviewing him on 23rd April 2016 in The Sultanate of Oman for Oman FM radio, he performed at the Royal Opera House Muscat. I was only given a 15min slot to speak with Al but ended up with him for more than an hour and a half - an unforgettable hour and a half! His show the next night was fab and a lot of fun, his memorable adlibs had the band chasing after him for much of the show! God Bless You Al, thankyou.
I heard him about 15 times live - also with this band - and he always surprised me, because he was different in every concert, fresh, special, funny, amazing, giving such a strong positive energy I cannot find words to describe it. Thanks Al and I wish you to have great sessions with George Duke in heaven.
Incomparably unique, improvisational genius, and smooooooooooth as all get out!!! This man has been my mentor for decades. Thank you Mr. Jarreau is an instrument the world needed to hear. He is among the MANY legends that left this world too soon. His discipline, his stature, his consistent new approach to soooo many jazz standards will have centuries of musicians referencing his ability and facility as inspiration for old and new compositions for instrumentalists and vocalists alike. I cried the day I heard you passed, but today I SMILE at the life you lead and the recordings (like this one) to constantly remind me of one of the greatest jazz vocalists of ALL TIME!!! Thank you for sharing your gift!!!
Pure Jazz, pure invention, consummate improvisation, and pure genius that we will probably never behold again. Once in a lifetime concert. God Bless Al Jarreau for this great performance and gift to our senses! 👏❤️🙏
Man, he was in a mood this night, and really ON … he was always a great performer and a magician of the vocal instrument, but this night was extra special - I hope this audience realized what a special night they were a part of. Saw Al a few times, but at Foxborough with Chaka on a warm summer eve under the stars was my favorite … 1986, I believe. Joyous - oh how we miss you, AJ! 🙏🏼😪❤️🩹
Rest well Mr. Jarreau!!! Many many years of listening to your music. Saw you live several times at Red Rocks in Colorado..Sweet Tomorrow Morning, Burst in with the Dawn!!!
Mr Jarreau was an immense talent for interpretation and his voice was and still is stunning and yet very human. It speaks to your inner child. Wish I had written this sooner, feeling as if I have lost a good friend of mine.
The great Al Jarreau - May you rest in peace and 'til this day we all thank you for filling our lives with the best Goove, Jazz and Spontaneity you have provided and continue to provide. We all must continue to learn.
This is a beautiful concert which discovered online. I was lucky enoungh to have been at this very concert. I still have the ticket. 20th July 1998 Thank you Al, I carry your music in me.
There was nothing better than an Al Jarreau live performance! I had the pleasure of being entertained and amazed by Al's limitless talent in South Florida... I will never forget it. Al was not a just a singer he was a well-tuned musical instrument.
What a phenomenal treasure! Thank you for this absolute masterpiece from the Master. Mr. Jarreau has blessed us all with his joy and love of his art. May his memory always be a blessing!
I never got the chance to meet him or play with him. It seemed like I always missed him by a minute. “Al was here last week.” I did get to play with Freddie back in the 90’s. One of the great stories of my career. I would’ve given a limb to play with Al!
You have to be a hellava musician to play with Al Jarreau. He’s about being spontaneous and improvisational, and he allows his musicians to play with a sense of freedom as they follow his lead. Pure musical genius who knows no boundaries.
I guess the joy Mr. Alwin Lopez Jarreau brought to us is finished here on earth. Thank you Sir for your magnificent jazz style and the scats that you performed so masterfully. Thank you for your awesome jazz style. Rest In Peace.
Thanks so much for allowing this video. Sir Al Jarreau, you are the best & I wish I could have met you. What a talent bestowed on you. Keep playing in heaven & YOU are loved:)
Another brilliant star that jetted across the sky for only a moment in time. RIP Al Jarreau and say hello to your choir, the greats of our time who like you, lit up our skies with genius Nancy Wilson, Phoebe Snow, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn will welcome you.
i think I attended the Paris concert of this tour, and AlJjarreau was top form, and top class... he, who had enough of over singing his old hits, managed to all put them in a medley or two;, and sang less famous repertoire, and that was fantastic... no need to tell you the musicioans were top class, as in all american shows.
Mr Al Jarreau was such musical griot for me that if I had a boy child his name would have been ... Jarreau. Phenomenal artist and such a peaceful spirit. Rest in heaven my bro!!I hope reincarnation is for real because we could listen to him forever and ever 🤠
La mejor combinación de geniales músicos liderados por una excelente voz...creo que es el mejor concierto que le he escudado Gracias Al en donde quiera que estes😬🙏
Thanks, Al...Love the Band...Love the Greeting and Salutation...you, better than ever...A little reminiscing...Of a time I was always broke...and happy...in the mid-70's..young and nuthin' but possibilities ahead...I call's it my "Pauper in Paradise" days..and this song was playing.."We got by"....in the background...I didn't think much about it at the time..cuz it said what I/we was LIVING...but it plays sweeter now...in hindsight....Thankful..Amen, Life
Thank you, Al, for sharing in my mission to connect with and highlight those who have extraordinary capacity to touch our souls in unimaginable ways. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! We looooove you so much!!
LISA GOOCH ENTERTAINMENT reading this comment made me tear up! I miss this man beyond words! It’s so nice to see how much of an influence this beautiful man had ☺️
I discivered Al Jarreau through my Dad who was enver very expressive but he absolutely loved Al's command of his instrument and so did I. My Dad got lost in his music and I would my Dad lose control of his body in dance and that exagerrated movement of his mouth as he sang like Al Jarreau... I just loved to watch my Dad, thoroughly enjoy his consumption of Mr. J's expressions. Now I am in my 50's and my Dad passed a few years ago on the 2/11/21, almost 4 years to the day that Mr. J passed away. I am a fan and when I play this music, I feel closer to my Dad. Thank you for sharing this video! If "Fanship" is a word, LOFTmusic, you have strengthened mine! 💖🥰🤗❤️
Saw him too one and final time NsJazz Rotterdam 2008. (Me 40 yrs old) I have the same feelings of gratitude. Also in regard of the Late great Jean Toots Thielemans - I felt so lucky to see him at the grand congrescentre in the Hague, 2006, I believe. - he just came from a long sickness hospitalized - and started making jokes with the nurses... Great man. He had asthma, when playing harmonica his asthma seemed temporararily away.
Maestro Al jarreau is such and unspeakable music professor! I'm sure that these musicians can testify to their heightened level in the music profession, after having worked with him. His indirect teachings are so awesome to watch and experience! I'll always speak of him in the present tense, because, never has there ever been anything dead about him. Thank you, Al! You're an instrumentalist, percussionist, vocalist, man of integrity, gentle teacher, and soooo much more! I'll always love you, dearly. ❤
One of the happiest, and most gifted singers in pop history, was Al Jarreau. Listening to him, was like listening to Stevie Wonder. Pure joy and light.
There are no words... Only silence as the master sings. Rest in heaven, King. We were blessed and left in awe of your instrument. Thank you! Your student - your eternal fan...* SirCroon.
Thanks for posting. I have been a super fan of him since I was a kid. Watched his concert collaboration with George Benson, Breezin... in the Philippines. RIP.
Vous étiez...vous êtes....vous serez toujours magnifiquement immensement exceptionnellement unique et inoubliable....la classe à l'état pur....thanks for all !!!!! R.I.P Master......
"Nah...Your Song?" Then Al goes on to perform the most heartbreaking version of Your Song I ever heard. And as always, shines a light on his musicians, always giving them the credit they deserve. Miss you deeply.
I saw this concert in Munich live. It was my last time seeing Al live and I could not be happier to live this magnificent evening. I will carry this memory for rest of my life. Rest in peace your music will be a life for ever.
Wow! Very cool to have found someone who was in the audience that night.
LOFTmusic hi.
I'm happy for you, you're one lucky audience 😊

Totally unique, totally awesome, totally gifted, the total package.RIP
Mr Jarreau was an immense talent for interpretation and his voice was and still is stunning and yet very human. It speaks to your inner child. Wish I had written this sooner, feeling as if I have lost a good friend of mine.
Literally stellar and a gr8t musical instrument. 💯🎼🎤🎺🥁🏆🎸🎤🎵🎶🎙🎷📯🎹. Wow .

Sublime. A master with nothing to prove.... in the moment it flows through him.
I've never seen or heard anyone like him. I'm thankful to have his music in my heart.

Thank you Al, I carry your music in me.
There was nothing better than an Al Jarreau live performance! I had the pleasure of being entertained and amazed by Al's limitless talent in South Florida... I will never forget it. Al was not a just a singer he was a well-tuned musical instrument.

Mr. Jarreau has blessed us all with his joy and love of his art. May his memory always be a blessing!
I had the privilège to meet him three times before concert, and each time was an unforgettable moment! My very and only one Al !!! Miss you so much!
Wanted to. 😔
Celestial, sublime,un dios terrenal, no hay adjetivo para describir a este magnánime músico, Máster entre los Máster, eternamente AL JARREAU
Tremendo talento Al Jarreau, inolvidable.
I'm still at 0.32 minutes yet I want to hear a lot more of him.. Thank you Al Jarreau , this is such a magnificent and magical performance. ... RIP Al

04:38~ Why do I get goosebumps here every time? Will there ever come a day when I can explain this phenomenon in words? Fantastic show.

How can you not stay awake when the performer is the beat himself?! An amazing online discovery!🎤😀
Personne hors du commun ily aura un seul Al jarreau Loungtog
Wow
i think I attended the Paris concert of this tour, and AlJjarreau was top form, and top class... he, who had enough of over singing his old hits, managed to all put them in a medley or two;, and sang less famous repertoire, and that was fantastic... no need to tell you the musicioans were top class, as in all american shows.
Mr Al Jarreau was such musical griot for me that if I had a boy child his name would have been ... Jarreau. Phenomenal artist and such a peaceful spirit. Rest in heaven my bro!!I hope reincarnation is for real because we could listen to him forever and ever 🤠
3 times blessed to have seen him! BEST man ever- pure gentleman ~ great voice, miss him very much RIP Mr Jarreau xox
La mejor combinación de geniales músicos liderados por una excelente voz...creo que es el mejor concierto que le he escudado Gracias Al en donde quiera que estes😬🙏
Thanks, Al...Love the Band...Love the Greeting and Salutation...you, better than ever...A little reminiscing...Of a time I was always broke...and happy...in the mid-70's..young and nuthin' but possibilities ahead...I call's it my "Pauper in Paradise" days..and this song was playing.."We got by"....in the background...I didn't think much about it at the time..cuz it said what I/we was LIVING...but it plays sweeter now...in hindsight....Thankful..Amen, Life
Al Jarreau is an all-star singer, cannot be bored by his voice any time...
Al Jarreau is my favorite singer! I saw and heard him in The Ukraine. RIP Mr. Al Jarreau
Al You are amazing! That's why you are one of my favorites that I discovered in the 80's!
Loved him and his music for so many years... never heard anyone like him and pretty sure I never will again, a genius and a one off
Really terrific Alto Saxophone. Such ❤heartfelt music poured out👍❣️
Canto su música un ángel hermoso Talentoso músico increíble de tiempos grandiosos de USA 💋♥️🌍🌟
Saw him too one and final time NsJazz Rotterdam 2008. (Me 40 yrs old)
I have the same feelings of gratitude.
Boy do I miss him his singing, showmanship and positivity.
Vienen a mi mente recuerdos de una hermosa época de mi vida en la que su música y su voz me acompañaba, lo amo por ello!!
One of the happiest, and most gifted singers in pop history, was Al Jarreau. Listening to him, was like listening to Stevie Wonder. Pure joy and light.
Thank you, Mr Al you light up my life when I first heard your silky voice.
Pure Genius!! Rest in Peace now My Old Friend
one of the best singer, the best instrument players🔥🔥
One of the greatest vocal-tap dancers in all history. We miss you, Al.
There are no words... Only silence as the master sings. Rest in heaven, King. We were blessed and left in awe of your instrument. Thank you! Your student - your eternal fan...* SirCroon.
As a child Al was a balm to my heart with his magnificent poetry and his silky-groovy universes !! And he still is !! 😃
Al, Respect and Honor. Great man of peace. Heaven has won a beautiful Angel.
Thanks for posting. I have been a super fan of him since I was a kid. Watched his concert collaboration with George Benson, Breezin... in the Philippines. RIP.
I loved it when he did an invitation to the audience to come into the magical realm with him. He wanted them to loosen up and ride his wave. Loved it!
Too sad they did not react in any way... :-(
Vous étiez...vous êtes....vous serez toujours magnifiquement immensement exceptionnellement unique et inoubliable....la classe à l'état pur....thanks for all !!!!!
R.I.P Master......
It is because of my brother, that I became a fan of this talented man. Rest in peace Al. Rest in peace Jerome
Love ❤️ the way that he put so much soulful feelings to his songs.
Amazing and incomparable talent❤❤❤❤❤!
"Nah...Your Song?" Then Al goes on to perform the most heartbreaking version of Your Song I ever heard. And as always, shines a light on his musicians, always giving them the credit they deserve. Miss you deeply.
I love Alwyn López Jarreau. The best vocal singer around the world!!!
