I am in my 70’s now. When I was a child in the sixties my friend had beatnik parents. They always played the hipest music. This was played all the time in their house along with the young Barbara Streisand. What wonderful people.
Same here. This music would play at my parents backyard fondue parties in 66 and 67. I was in grade school but Sis and I loved the cheese fondue and I would sneak a sip of Falstaff beer and spit it out, like yuck!! Fun times!
MY Mother and I were living in a Japanese fishing village In the 1960s and we met international expats on the beach and we would sing along with these songs along with the floating candle lantern at night in the shallow waves!!! Oh I miss being 9 years old and having adult conversations!!
Like many of the commenters here, I am a guy in my 70's. I was always taken with this sound and never tired of it. Great arrangements, marvelous voices and a unique blend of bossa nova, cool jazz and a classic 'standards' sound reminiscent of the Sinatra era.
My wife and I saw Sergio and his troupe last year at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, IL. They were great. He seemed so full of life. Thank you Sergio. My heart lifts whenever I hear your music. You will live in our hearts as long as your music plays on.
herb was thee star in our house : lonely bull / whipped cream late 60s era , fantastic stuff . but now adays seeing video and thusly getting to pick out lani's vocals in songs i realize what an angel , wow fantastic ! not to mention sergio's civilized style and great piano
When everyone my age was afflicted with Beatlemania, I loved to listen to Sergio. Sounded "adult" to me. Sixty years later, still love it. My intro to Jobim, Gilberto, etc. Thanks so much, Sergio.
Like many others here I was born in 1959 and for me Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66, '77, '88 and all the following reincarnations has been a milestone in my musical growth. Listening as a child Mais Que Nada, with the two luscious (and oboviusly sexy) female voices drive me crazy still now.
One of the things my father gave me was a love of music, a wide range of music and styles. He's 92 and this album has been a part of his collection for as long as I can remember. I loved it as a teenager and I love it now!! Fantastic album!!
My dad was a trained concert pianist. He worked for Irving Berlin and had a love for all kinds of music. He passed recently and would be 98 now. He gave me a love for music, films, art, foreign languages and so much. His uncle was a director/producer of western films. Lots of interesting characters. Sergio Mendes was a favorite as was Herb Alpert.
Brings me back to my childhood. I was born in 1959 and remember hearing them on the radio then seeing them on TV when I was 9. Also remember dad playing his Herb Alpert records. Ah those were the days!
😍Love this group!!!! I was in high school when I first heard their album. I'm 72 now and listening to these oldies just makes me smile. Isn't it amazing how we can still remember the lyrics? 🥰
This really can't be called a greatest hits album though without "The Look of Love" and "Like a Lover" it's flip side. Their cover versions like "Scarboro Fair" "Day Tripper" were also getting airplay everywhere because they were so out-of-sight.
Listening 🎧 to this 🎵🎶 reminds me of my beloved husband Delfin ❤😢 I lost him in 2020 to Colon Cancer. He loved dancing to these songs. So talented suave debonier and sexy. As Dj he always played these wonderful tunes 🎵🎶
Frankie Vallie sang Going Out of my Head. Dad would joke around and sing going out of my head oven you…and can’t take my eyes off in you on another Frankie Vallie song. Great songs of the 60’s when I was a kid. I was 5 when the Beatles came over. Hearing this album from Brazil 66 is triggering all sorts of memories when I was a kid in the 60’s. Like watching the Ed Sullivan Show every Sunday night hoping to see the mouse puppet Topo Gigio near the end. Loved that little mouse so much I had a hand puppet of him.
When I was in the USN, a shipmate had the album and we played it when were out at sea. I bought this album when I came back from NAM in 1968. Have always been a huge bossa nova and Sergio Mendes fan. !!@@!!

Even as a child that voice struck a deep chord in me....THAT VOICE!!! 56 years later it has not subsided. Imagine if Lani had stayed with the band a few more years. Sergio Mendez, you did the right thing eventually blessing her departure none the less. You all did amazing work that has endured and will continue to do so. Rest well, all of you did so much good.
Você sempre estará no meu coração! O melhor representante do meu amado Brasil!!
Such a joy Sergio Mendes gave us growing up truly a legacy. As the other person said while everybody was listening to the Beatles, I was in love with the bossa nova sound and Antonio Jobim. I had a neighbor who had an organ and he was learning all these melodies and that’s how I got hooked. Thank You Vicente Levi Castillo!
As a child n d 1970s i jst took listening to ds sounds for granted. now in my '60s i search for messers Mendez Utube songs wherever nostalgia hits me. So relaxing & brings me back to my youth, its so very distinctive frm todays music😊 RIP to d late Sr. Mendez
I wasn't born until the following year (1967) and I love this music. My mom's musical tastes lean toward this along with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Perry Como, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, and the like. I found her old records when I was a teenager and listened to them and became hooked.
In 1970, when the World's Fair was held in Japan, I was shocked to see a concert at the venue. It would be great if the second World Expo was held in Osaka in 2025 and they came to Japan. Last time it was a great success, with moon rocks being exhibited in the American pavilion. There aren't many highlights this time, so I hope they come.

Thank you very much in sharing your Great talent through your beautiful music. RIP Mr Sergio Mendez..you are now in a much" Pretty World " with Our Creator
I was 12 years old when I first started listening to them and I've love them ever since,so glad to have found these tunes again. Thank you Sergio and Brasil 66. 🎙️🎵🎶🎸🎹🎺🎼👨🎤👩🎤
So true. I became aware of this lively Brazilian sound that was so different from the American pop and rock music of the sixties. Obrigado Sergio for enriching my young life!
The first concert l ever went to was Sergio Mendes. My mother was so proud of taking us to hear a fellow Brazilian. Greek Theater, Los Angeles, Sept 9, 1968, lol. Loved the concert and music.
Thank you very much! I had a vinyl but I left it in Japan, so nowhere to be found. This great album brings me back to all the memories from my high-school era! And this was my favorite album! Thanks, again!
Mendes' mix of the sensuous Brazilian beat & Jazz was a major breakthrough in the musical scene of the '60s. Still one of my favorites, after all these years. Btw, for those of you who don't know it, Lani Hall--lead singer--was Herb Alpert's wife. That why Sergio signed with A&M Records (Alpert & Moss).
You are 100% correct! Great music. Today the radio is filled with very average artists made out to be something they are not. The music industry has been rubbish for years now.
That's the voice of Lani Hall, the now wife of Herb Alpert. I was lucky enough to see them both perform in Vancouver on April 8, 2023. Her voice is just as amazing now as then. Herb Alpert told this story that night: He had helped Sergio Mendes get his first break in North America and toured his band together with Brasil '66. With a firm hand he warned his band off the women in Brasil '66 saying it would just lead to ruin for any funny business between his guys and the girls. Not able to follow his own advice, he secretly began dating the lovely young woman with the main female voice of Brasil '66. 4 years later they married. The lesson learned: Never follow your own advice. 😉
But he knew he had to be careful and not ruin Sergio, his music, and the money Brasil 66 brought into his organization. So he took his time with Lani and when he was sure Brasil 66 had used most of its economic impact with A&M, THEN he made his move to marry Lani. He made sure not to kill the goose that laid the golden eggs!
I'm 59 now and remember this and other vinyl stuff my parents played in our home as a child/toddler. The music is perhaps the clearest memory as it does not fade away, but becomes even clearer when you revisit those memories by playing those old songs that you associate with love.
I love the Bossa Nova and the musicians and singers that made it popular worldwide in the 1960s: Antonio Carlos Jobim, Sergio Mendes, Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto and other Brazilian singers. The Portuguese language sounds SO ROMANTIC when sung by Bossa Nova singers.
My parents took me to my first concert ever - Sergio Mendes Brazil 66. I believe I was nine or 10 years old and I absolutely loved it to this takes me back to the mid 60s thank you Herb Alpert for making this group in the USA!
Sergio Mendes and his group were one of the bust groups I have ever listened. And wht¿s more they are still Great to listen and enjoy nearly sixty yers later!
Lindos recuerdos…

I remember listening to these songs on WABC and WOR in NYC when I was 5-6 years old. Then Mad Men happened in 2007 and it brought it all back. Was watching MM on AMC yesterday and fell in love with this music again. ❤ 🎶
Sergio Mendes (and Herb Alpert) is definitely one of my musical guilty pleasures. It lets me escape into a world that's happy, full of sunshine, peaceful, carefree. New mind such a world didn't really exist in the 1960s anymore than it does today, but so what? There are worse things out there.
Rest in peace Sergio. You did a great job as musician and as a Brazilian citzen.
Rest in Peace Sergio Mendes...you will live on thru your music.
Fato.
¡Por siempre Sergio Méndes! 🎶🙏🏾🕊️🇧🇷

My parents took me to my first concert ever - Sergio Mendes Brazil 66. I believe I was nine or 10 years old and I absolutely loved it to this takes me back to the mid 60s thank you Herb Alpert for making this group in the USA!
Rip 🙏 Sergio Mendes. Your legacy was beautiful, harmonious music 🎶 ❤
so many memories of my dad playing this album on his turntable...
Lived in Brazil for a year in 67-69. I was 17. The music, the food, the pinga . . . . all wonderful. Loved this group then and it hasn't changed.
What's pinga?
@@schorpioen7466 it's Jenga played with ping pong balls.
@@steves7896 funny
hard liquor
@@schorpioen7466 Sugar cane brandy. Very potent. Had a cipirinha some twenty years after returning home. One of the great flashbacks ever.
Grazie della tua musica. Riposa in pace grande Maestro Sergio 🙏
Total genius! You can not get this quality of music today...
Can't remember how young I was when I first heard "Girl from Ipanema" and fell in love with bossa nova. Wonderful music.💓💗💕
Sergio Mendes and his group were one of the bust groups I have ever listened. And wht¿s more they are still Great to listen and enjoy nearly sixty yers later!

I feel the same way about Ue o Muite Arukou (aka, Sukiyaki) by Kyu Sakamoto.
I remember listening to these songs on WABC and WOR in NYC when I was 5-6 years old. Then Mad Men happened in 2007 and it brought it all back. Was watching MM on AMC yesterday and fell in love with this music again. ❤ 🎶
Quem agora dia 19/4/2024,,tá ouvindo essa maravilha ❤❤❤❤
Eu! 05/05/24! ❤❤❤
6/8!
Timeless.
Eu! from Puerto Rico Caribbean island.
Sergio Mendes (and Herb Alpert) is definitely one of my musical guilty pleasures. It lets me escape into a world that's happy, full of sunshine, peaceful, carefree. New mind such a world didn't really exist in the 1960s anymore than it does today, but so what? There are worse things out there.
is grandiosos
Hallo. Obrigada Sérgio Mendes. A sua existência foi musicada e maravilhosa... Toque na eternidade!!!!!
Sergio Mendes:brinda ganas de vivir...
