Came across Al Jarreau in 1977, browsing LPs at Leopold's in Berkeley CA; bought his live album and couldn't get enough of it! Delicious scat, lyrical magic, talent beyond compare. Then to hear him break through to the mainstream? Almost like a proud brother thinkin', yup that's my man!
Yeah!, My beautiful and wonderful and lovin' husband introduced me to Al, George Benson, Bob Marley, Ella Fitzgerald and many other " Greats!!! " My husband has passed many years ago, but my love for all the greats is more stronger than ever. Our song was " We're in this Love Together." I love you Al and that blessed gift God gave you.❤❤❤❤❤
The songs are simple to sing to us ordinary singers but this artist delivered it with so many complications using his own style. That is why he is one of my favorites!! Long live AJ!!
Anyone who knows Al..knows he's gonna sing it how he feels it...If ppl r looking for all that pop/commercial singing he aint doing that..hes doing Al & being.absolutely GENIUS..& the band, especially the bass player is 🔥
A genius on top of his game it won't be another one like him and his music and style what a privileged to live in his time one of the irreplecebles. RIP brother I can listen to this until the day I die.
The vocal gymnastics of Al Jarreau are so unique and uncomparable as he sings it way up high and way down with every twist and bend of the vocal cords that prove him to be an Iconic gift from God !!! It is painful and heartwhrencing to knock that his voice has been silenced in this world as we know it, but just maybe it is still scatting away in the Great Beyond....? Lay thyself 'neth the strength of vocal cords, and REST IN PEACE our Brother....

I was at that NSJF but I was too late but I heard him singing from outside the concert hall (wish I would have gone), but I went to see the James Brown show instead!!
Wish he would just sing instead of having those “audible fits!” Can’t bare that stuff. Obviously a great singer without pretending to be bloody saxophone!

I come here when I need comfort. Love you, Al.
A rare, unique and super talent in the world of Jazz, not to be found anymore. And he was a kind man as well.

A great artist with a wonderful voice.
Absolument exceptionnel, génial de bout en bout, un chanteur à l'imagination inépuisable, un groupe en totale liberté, un sommet !
Je découvre ce concert magnifique. Al est au top.

Lots of jazz flavour here, before he moved over into pop.
Genius ❤!
58:48 Rapid fire "Come along we can get it on" on bass and vocal makes me laugh every time.
Does anyone know what happened to this bass player Darek Johnson? I can't find anything on him online. He's epic!
It's Derek Jackson, played on Heart to Heart by Kenny Loggins and a bunch of other stuff too.
Woww! Please… Who’s the piano player? Thanks
That's Tom Canning on piano.
I meant to write Know instead of knock. X Sorry !!

Nasal, throat, diaphragm technique - all utilize by Jarreau. And he has such a large mouth. Louis Armstrong mouth also quite sizeable.
