On the topic of favorite books. For me it's Dark age, Darrow's back and forth with Lysander was really well done, the whole mercury arc is probably my favorite in the story so far, and seeing The Reaper from the outside when he finds Lysander's forces in the desert is my favorite chapter in the books.
Late to reply here, but I always get back to this exact scene when trying to understand how HARD Darrow goes in war. Scene 1 Lysander has the hardest fricking time in his life being slaughtered by darrows forces in the most menacing, horrific, slow-motion and zoomed in kind of ways. Then, scene 2, Darrow PoV: „we experienced light resistance along the way.“ that’s how it felt from his perspective. Not even worth a mention. Man, this is one of my favorite show don’t tell moments to make you really afraid of Darrow as an enemy
I hope you guys can get Pierce back for a spoiler filled episode because Light Bringer was such an amazing book. I’d love to hear his complete thoughts for a lot of these questions
Pierce is more excited talking about Ancient Roman and its figures than anything else. Gotta love his passion. It seeps through the pages and helps make the series what it is.
Hey guys, I just learned about the books last month, and I have listened to all of them back to back. I'm obsessed, and I'm glad to find thoughtful commentary, and this interview with Pierce is great! I'll be plowing through your pod and hope to keep exploring this excellent series.
iron gold/ dark age were superb in my opinion, on my second or third relisting of the original trilogy it was just a enjoyment of the trilogy but on my second and third relisting of IG\DA i was seeing threads of narrative i missed the first time, i was seeing subtle interwoven threads which made it very enjoyable all over again. I, like many others are eagerly awaiting Lige Bringer and just hope we won't be waiting too long for Red God. excellent series and superb author
Iron Gold was definitely a grower in comparison to the previous series, but going back and re reading after Dark Age makes it even better. As for Lysander, he's actually one of my favorite characters. He really _wants_ to be good despite his upbringing and programming. On top of that, he's endured so much as an heir pawn for his grandmother, but it's important to remember how young he is to understand where some of his arrogance and indecisiveness comes from. He's not _likeable_ , but boy is he fascinating. So excited to see his part in the story. The character I actually hate would be Lorn 😂 he's so loved by some people, when he was more of a hypocrite and sure of his own honour far more than Lysander? He's so honorable he guts an enemy by surprise after they've already surrendered. Edit: I finished Lightbringer. Fuck Lysander.
I don’t hate Lysander. I actually always wondered if I was supposed to hate him. I find him annoying. The kid thinks huge of himself. But come con, Lorne was pretty badass tho hahaha although he was a horrible person
I'm right there with you Iron Gold was my least favorite 1st time going through the series but you can really appreciate it so much more if you have a reread like Pierce said those characters have grown on you and you spent time investing I to them grow to cherish the characters. Also I agree about Lorn most Golds are hypocrites but maybe they look at honor in a different light then we mere homosapiens do lol
That really upsets me that there is only 1 narrator dont get me wrong love TGR but I enjoyed having a female narrator for the female POVs and Ephraims narrator was the tits but of course he's not gonna be around
I had the same fear as you, but after a few minutes of listening, I sank into it. TGR did a really good job at separating the voices for the different POV's. Obviously not as much as having separate voice actors, but good nonetheless. Hopefully you have a similar experience.
As you've read it (or are reading it still) how does it rank amongst the saga? Haven't been this excited for a book release in a long, long time. ONE MORE DAY
Haha, our Lysander stance has been challenged a lot lately. I would love to clarify though. We love his character, what he provides for the story, how he's explored in a literary fashion but I will always contend that he is an epically bad hang ever since Iron Gold
I didn’t like that Cassius was killed. My opinion is that he needed to stay with Darrow till the end, as victors. Overall, Light Bringer was a great read. 😊😊😊😊
I think that the new series is much better and while Darrow has been more of a background character in this sereis. The series is stronger for extended perspectives It really has grown from where it started in rising. Much appreciation for this work.
Yeah.. sorry I hate Lysander. Because he says one thing and does the other. For me is unthinkable to betray someone that took care of you and loved you. But I understand what you guys are saying. Apple is horrible too, but I like him. I feel bad for liking him, but he is so dramatic and fun to read. I think when the series is done, I can feel different about Lysander. I most definitely hate the Jackal. From the moment he killed Pax. And now is a gross little clone! I wonder if Lysander is a clone…

I love Pax (both of them actually!). I hope there is more of him in Book 7. He’s Brown’s Arya for me, the character that pulls me in the most.

I really wish there were more merch for Red Rising definitely would purchase
Definitely improved on light bringer. On iron gold it was hard to differentiate at times. All in all. Phenomenal series.
Lightbringer was amazing and the end is crazy

Whoa! Awesome job and thank you!
His explanation of darrow vs Lysander as "what do you do with what you have" floored me
Pierce is a complete legend
Fuchhhhhhhwq
Hail Reaper
Hail Telemanus
This was such an enjoyable interview to watch, you guys asked so many deep, insightful questions about the series
Thank you very much. Pierce is such a fun dude to talk with. He really carried the conversation
Just finished it a minute ago. Was a great book, well worth the wait. Everything I wanted and more. Set up perfectly for the finale.

Will I listen to this again. You betcha.
I was the same way as you guys about Lysander... Until Chapter 84. Curious how y'all feel now.
Lysander is a turd
After chapter 84 he is now yhe biggest turd
Humbling river is a great song! Looking forward to lightbringer
Listening while doing accounting
Looking forward to watching this, but going read Light Bringer first. I dont want even a whiff of a spoiler!
43 min in and there’s no spoilers so far
No spoilers, so safe to watch.
A few tiny whiffs
Thank yall! ❤

Finally found someone who agrees that Iron Gold is one of the best!
Great read. Rankings after 6 books
Golden Son
Dark Age
Morning Star
Lightbringer
Iron Gold
Red Rising
All of them are good though.
I still need to figure out where LB ranks but nice ranks yourself. Dig it!
I AM SO HYPED
Homie has read Storm before the Storm for his Roman history.
As you've read it (or are reading it still) how does it rank amongst the saga?
Haven't been this excited for a book release in a long, long time. ONE MORE DAY
Pierce said it's his current favorite. He is really proud of it as it should be. For us, I think its top 3
How do y’all feel about Lysander now?!
Haha, our Lysander stance has been challenged a lot lately. I would love to clarify though. We love his character, what he provides for the story, how he's explored in a literary fashion but I will always contend that he is an epically bad hang ever since Iron Gold
Man finally this book is out for audio. 🤣
Dude is handsome. Like hallmark movie handsome.
It's tomorrowww

Does anyone here know which translation of the Iliad Piece Brown would recommend?

Wow the disrespect to Gormenghast 😔
Why no comments on the Pierce Brown interview. That’s my favorite series of all time you guys are wack
because he decided to support a genocidal state (Israel)
Logotype the time
