If he would have players who are ready to learn and don't have problems to listen him shouting, he would make unbeatable team. But in NBA is like star players above the team, so he would not be able to make sistem.

NBA not suitable for him or Obradovic not suitable for the NBA.
I dont know if he is the best european coach ever .If you ask him ,i believe he will probably say someone else.(Ivkovic?) For sure has the most trophies ,but thats not enough i believe because if we base our discussion only on how many silverware someone has won, R.Horry as a player would be in the GOAT conversation for the NBA.
Also, after Partizan and Badalona has always coached top teams with top budgets and top players.I'd like to see him coaching a team like how OLY was back in the 2011-2012 and having similar success. Maybe he can do it now with Partizan, who knows....

The NBA issue is cultural. There's no way an NBA coach could say these kind of things to his players. He would get called an insane, racist, fascist, toxic man etc. That's just not how people can coach in America. He's also right when he says the NBA doesn't give coaches the freedom they have in Europe. In the Euroleague a coach could decide to have LeBron come off the bench as a 6th man in a specific game, if he thinks it could help them win. That would never work in the NBA. Those star players would refuse to play or demand a trade or the coach would get fired.

I'm sure LBJ could have helped them in limited minutes off the bench. I agree with everything, but racism. I have not seen racism from any European coach until now, correct me if I am wrong. For example, in Serbian teams many foreigners, both black (mostly American) and white are really loved if they play good and show interest for Serbian culture. The best example is Charles Jenkins who is arguably our favorite foreigner and he has had Serbian passport for a couple of years now. Same goes for some other players.

He once sent Bjelica (who was Euroleague MVP that season) to the locker room in the 4th quarter of a close game for disobedience. And they eventually won by a single point. Imagine the Bucks sending Giannis or the Nuggets sending Jokic for an early shower in the 4th quarter of a close game. Unthinkable, right?
See, this is why Obradovic would never coach in the NBA. There, players have much more power than coaches. Obradovic needs to be in full control of his players to be successful and there he wouldn't last even half a season with all those players with huge egos. But I'm thankful for that, cause he brought so much success to Athens and Greek basketball.

We shall be very happy to live in his era.. Im sure european basketball will see other great coaches in the future, new rivalries etc, but Obradovic seems unrepeatable. His temper, his character, intelligence as a person and overall presence are purely incredible. I really hope he finishes his career by winning Euroleague title with Partizan. Panathinaikos's Green Era from 1999 up to 2012 under the guidance of the G.O.A.T. of European basketball coaches, Zeljko Obradovic is undoubtfully the most succesful running period of any European team in history. Legend! ☘️💚🏀🇷🇸

I mean, you look at someone like Doc Rivers who by all accounts has been mediocre and still has held multiple jobs. Obradović would easily be one of the best coaches in the league - if not the best - in terms of knowledge of the game. It's just that the way the NBA game and league rules are, it would be a tough business for any GM to put together a team that could play under him. And obviously most star players simply aren't used to taking shit from their coaches like that when they're coasting. Can you imagine someone like Harden playing under him? He'd ask for a trade immediately. Giannis and maybe Dončić would be the only ones who could cope because they would have an idea of who they're dealing with. Giannis I'd say for sure would be able to do it because he's a lot like Diamantidis whom Obradović loved: a true team player and professional, with an unparalleled work ethic.

This LEGEND managed to make people frome Greece, Turkey and Serbia, and maybe whole Europe agree on one thing. HE is the BEST. He managed something noone ever will repeat. He created something out of nothing for so many times now. He's living legend. AND YET, there are some so-called "Serbs" , supporters of other basketball teams, that will insult this legend and his legacy each time they have a chance, while their biggest succes is nowhere near his. Zots might never worked in the NBA but he is there. All the work, devotion, BB thinking brilliance, team playing, keeping a low profile outside the court, respect for teammates and opponents which you can see in certain players, it is there mainly because of him (and a couple of other European coatches). Don't forget Giannis grew up and played BB as a kid in 2000 - 2010 Athens. When it came to BB everything was about Zots's PAO, especially in Giannis's neighborhood. He was a God for all coatches Giannis ever had in Athens and they were trying to learn from/being like him. Also keep in mind Jokic is Serbian and Doncic from Slovenia, both former Jugoslavia in which Zots is considered a BB legent/professor.
So, with the 3 of them leading the ALL NBA 1st team maybe people in NBA should start reconsidering. Maybe not about Zots, it is probably too late. But about coatches with a similar Yugoslavian/Eastern European/Greek mentality and mindset.
Yugoslavian school of BB is legentary and Zots is the GOAT. Although as PAO's coach served my team (AEK Athens) many bitter moments :-)...

Coach in Europe, and it's not even close...His PAO Years (13!) were the most impressive ones, in my opinion. That's when he wrote some pages in a "History of Basketball" Book, of his own...I also appreciate his influence on a modern Serbian, and European Basketball in general. And I, as a Serbian, am so proud of Zeljko. That's why Serbia and Lithuania are the ONLY TWO AUTHENTIC BASKETBALL POWERHOUSES IN EUROPE!

Željko Obradovic is an absolute legend, he represents everything that Serbia is all about in the beautiful game of basketball.
Immense Pride, unmeasurable confidence and a genius mind for the game of basketball.
NBA is a player and therefore marketing driven league, it is the competition packaged in the entertainment product.
So if people in the USA think of Greg Popovic as a controversal and unortodox yet one of the best coaches ever in the NBA, I could see Željko Obradovic doing the same and potentially even greater achievements, because he is Greg on steroids in terms of the respect he has to have from his players, and the methods with which he achieves it.
It is just the on/off the court drama that would come with his methods, and the question if the league was willing to give a chance to someone who would for sure be presented as a villain.

European basketball and NBA are a lot different. It's easy to compare individuals and say that NBA has higher quality, but that's just one aspect. For me personally, European basketball is far above NBA in so many other aspects. One of them is beauty of a tram sport, atmosphere on games, teams' tactics etc. I can understand someone who is saying the opposite, but that's the difference between two kinds of basketball. Zeljko je part of the one I admire.
