- VR @ghhunter3665 In this video I'll expand on the topic from the first one (which will be in a card). GH Hunter had a very good suggestion that I would be remiss to not incorporate into this little case study of sizing dies. I hope you all enjoy!
Sample size matters! Perhaps some of you that have multiple brand die sets can post your measurements in the comments. Thank folks!
Don't ya love it when someone points out the obvious? We have such a great community so many of our viewers possess a expansive base of knowledge. We all can benefit from the exchanges!
Absolutely! What was supposed to be a simple little video to kill some time and have some fun has spawned conversations. All got something the learn, all got something to share!

Good to know!
thanks for coming by!
I would call that a fair comparison. Thanks for the redo.
Glad you liked it!
@@leadsmith44 I enjoy your videos because you are always looking for the best outcome and some of those FYI’s. Thanks
so neither die makes cases too wide to fit any chamber but depending on bullet you might have to flare the mouth more? is either bullet smaller than the throat-I'd heard that could cause leading from gas blowby if bullet isn't compressed a bit by the throat? I've tested the chamber exit in my S&W 14-2 and one is 0.001" wider than the rest(I used a XTP bullet as my test gauge and it easily passes on only one chamber).. I'll have to measure my cases now! I saw an ad on EGW website where you can buy sizing dies specifically undersized by 0.003" and made to allow sizing further down in web area to make easier loading and fixing any bulges before they cause problems...
Opinions tend to vary on this topic, but I'm a big fan of .000 difference between the cast bullet diameter and the throat ID if possible. I believe that if the bullet is larger than the throat that it will potentially be stressful on the revolver.
And yes, while there seems to be a .002 difference between the Lee and RCBS sizing die, they are both within spec and usable in any in-spec revolver. One just does better with one revolver than the other.
And yes, if I use my RCBS sizing die to load for my Ruger revolvers, I will have to be a little more aggressive with the expansion/flare process. In fact, I've found that rounds that I load using my .432 cast bullets with my RCBS die set come out looking like hour glasses lol. It can be done, but the brass gets worked a lot harder. I may see if I can cover this topic soon... assuming I don't offend RUclipss sensibilities in the process. Thanks for all the views and support!
Oh, I'm not familiar with the die from EGW... sounds like the bulge buster concept, maybe?
@@leadsmith44 yes they actually mention using it for that...great content and presentation!
