  • It took original thinking to make one of the best-selling albums of an entire decade, and that’s just what ZZ Top did, although they had some help with coming up with the sound. Completely bypassing the notion that nothing new could be done with rock ‘n roll, the trio released Eliminator in 1983, an album that blended their brand of Texas boogie woogie blues rock with synth sounds and drum machines, unleashing danceble rockers that topped the charts. But there is an unsung hero in the ZZ Top story. Dig into it - and how “Sharp Dressed Man” perfectly sums up the 80’s mindset - in this episode of the Behind The Song podcast.

That’s the 80s. I remember being one of those young lads and idolizing these bearded guys. Nicely done 👍

If there was a top ten of the coolest people in history, The Rev would be on there at least twice.

'Sharp Dressed Man' and 'Legs' are about as good as it gets for great guitar playing.🎸

I place Blue Jean Blues and I Need You Tonight just slightly higher on my ' Guitar Greats ' list.

I think Van Halen kinda had the same vibe as ZZ Top had. Tres Hombres and Deguello are my favorites. Thanks for putting out outstanding videos about the music I love!

Van Halen used to cover La Grange in their early days. Now listen to Hot For Teacher knowing that.

I concur. But Top was a brand of tobacco with accompanying papers.
      Along with Bugler.
      Tops were too thick
Zig Zags were a game changer.
First 4 albums were blues headon.
I was at the Worldwide Texas Tour in the Summit in Houston. Our drivers car had broken down on hiway 59.
I was 17 and me and a 15 year old girl walked to the Summit.
She was a knockout but I kept her safe. And we found some hometown guys gave us a ride home but I made them drop her off first.
