Just getting this out there here too: Regarding the Auto-Battles, if your Pokemon refuses to go after a specific wild Pokemon, it's most likely a shiny. So no, you won't lose those because of the system.
Im someone who mainly saves shiny hunting as a post game activity, there have been many times where pokemon refuse to auto battle. A lot of it has to do with certain slopes in the game that don’t necessarily allow the Let’s go feature to function properly, or positioning of your pokemon and wild pokemon, making wild pokemon at some very very specific angles nearly invisible or unreachable to the let’s go AI. The AI should only react this way when sending your pokemon out to a pokemon that is in the air, or towards shiny pokemon, which I have confirmed myself works. I still do not trust the AI, and I was only able to confirm because cubchoo is such a lackluster shiny, I wouldnt have cared if it did get knocked out
@@cyberdoguk3667 you can check guides on RUclips, many people tried it and the auttp battling Pokemon just refused by shaking their head and coming back to you
I made the mistake of fighting Klawf after doing Bombirdier and Donphan. I felt dumb after realizing I could swim and glide, but not dash, until I was halfway through the Titans.
Another thing the game doesn't tell you: The upgrades to Koraidon / Miraidon are actually based on which titan you defeated, rather than how many titans you defeated.
I did not know this until I asked a friend what they got for beating Klawf after I had taken on all of the three in the west, and that's how I got the ability to sprint a full 39 hours into the game
@Duncan Costales same. I got the glide first. Then big jump. Then dash. When i finally got dash i was like thank god. I just assumed i was stuck at that speed.
yeh, klawf gives you dash orthworm gives you bigger jump dondozo/tatsugiri gives u climb and idk the rest but the remaining 2 give you glide and go on water
@Tyler Dunham well i played it 1 day after launch and had my starter fuöly evolved the next day might be because im a veteran but yeah I didnt get spoiled luckily i tried to avoid every spoiler except the official ones
I was just playing through and thought that I should mention something: You should do the academy classes and talk to the teachers as you collect your gym badges! The classes actually tell you useful information about the game like where to change your pokemons Teratype and if you talk to the teachers enough they will give you 50 Terashards of the type that they like! Hassel gives you 50 Dragon Terashards. It substantially cuts down on grinding for those
@@aidankocherhans9861 math gives you 50 rock shards! some give other stuff like unique pokemon, haven't done all of them myself yet but serebii probably has them documented :)
I think it's fun to have one team where you beat all the titans. Then start again with a new team of lower level pokemon and go through gym and star challenges. That way you can challenge yourself, try new pokemon, and fully explore in a fun way
Should have done it this way the game was way too easy even with 5-10 lower level than opponent. Probably easiest elite 4 + champ ever.. i sweeped it without revives underleveled
Agree that level scaling need to happen, especially with the gym leaders. The bug gym was my 7th gym and had a team of level 40 against her level 10 pokemon.
lol nah that's why I love it. makes blasting through that stupid story easy. I only did it so I could then go with the Titan Pokemon who kicked. MY ASS at the lake titan.
They are very capable of it, but like a lot of things, they A. Don’t have the time or B. Are lazy. I’m not sure which it is, but they were able to scale Nemona’s team so they are able to scale the leaders, problem is that means 8 different teams with different levels and move sets and mons and it’s not the type of thing they tend to do.
@@nicolascaraballo1534 I think it's just they don't have the time. GF has never been able to optimize properly. Even in HeartGold and SoulSilver they struggled with filling it with as much as they did, and had to bring in someone who was an expert developer to help. Why they don't do that again and outsource, or insource since outsourcing is what got us BDSP I don't know. It would solve a lot of problems.
The funny thing is that fans already did this. The gen 2 romhack Crystal Clear lets you start in city from Kanto or Johto and lets you challenge all 16 gyms in whatever order you want, with each gym leader having 16 teams they can use based on how many badges you have, with the option to rechallenge them at any badge level up to how many you have
@@marchadow3957 in singles, Chien-Pao prefers running throat chop over crunch because it blanks unaware skeledirge that would usually beat it. Although, to be fair, it's not like crunch's special effect is that game changing...
I think if you want to avoid the problem of facing important battles too early or late, the best thing is to look at the description of the battle on the map. It indicates whether the fight is a first stop for trainers or the strongest opponent
I base the difficulty of gyms by the levels of wild Pokémon are in the area, I’ve notice once I went with the gym route when I first started, I notice once I got further up to the map, the wild Pokémon’s were getting over leveled, and my team was still in my mid 20’s with 2 badges, so I decided to go back to the school and went to the other side to the titan route and battle the other gyms. From there it got steady for me but still gave me a challenge once you got the easy ones out the way
11th tip, but having more than one team is really helpful for keeping the game fun. If you come across a stronger gym, you can use your strongest team. If you find a weaker gym, switch to a weaker team. This is really easy to do because this game just has so many pokemon to make multiple viable teams, and using different pokemon added fun to my game
I imposed stuff like adding a new Pokemon to the team before hitting the next gym or only using new Paldean ones I've never used before, and it really added so much fun and difficulty to the game.
You can definitely lower the stats of the starmobiles. The last fighting type team star battle was giving me trouble so I used feather dance on the starmobile 3 times to lower its attack until it was only tickling me. (Feather Dance harshly lowers opponents attack).
Omg the fighting team star leader Eri or whatever their name is is so hard especially after like 2-3 of that stay boost move that it uses cuz after that it’s too fast and hits to hard which caused my team to be wiped but after that attempt I formed a new strat and that team and new skill setup WIPED her although it wasn’t the crushing defeat I wanted but I still won
I ran into a flying Tera type Baxcalibur (well the baby form) and I remembered and used Tera blast and soloed her. Before that I think I lost 5 times almost beating her the last 3 times.
I used reflect and light screen consistently throughout the game for the tougher battles. Since I used it alot, then the held item "light clay" became really good. Adding 3 turns of effect to 5 turns is massive. Just a nice way to keep up defences if you ask me :)
lol I used farigiraf setup with 2 agilities and 3 nasty plots on her toxicroak that knows sucker punch and one shot everything without taking any damage.
6:08 good thing I checked this, you actually can lower its stats bc they have a move in the back to boost it back up, just can’t do stuff like toxic, Leech seed, and some others. Yesterday, I helped my friend through the Team Star fighting boss with use of feather dance and despite them being underleveled, this one change helped him get the W. Prior to learning this, he get deleted once Revavroom came out.
Funfact, boss revarooms actually have unlimited PP. Know how i know? Cause i googled a move, saw it only had 10 PP and used 20 super potions until i realized that we went past 10 and had to restart....
yeah being able to lower their stats came in super handy for me as I ran into the fire team star battle pretty underleveled. I just cheesed it by switching between flash fire growlithe and intimidate tauros until I got them to -6 on both attack stats.
@@jeyasurya2797 Yea same. It helped me alot on the highest level Star Boss. I had 2 Intimidate Users that kept the Revaroom's Shift Gear move in check and my mons could take some physical hits as they resisted their physical moves. I won the fight despite being like 8 levels under leveled
As a natural explorer I love going wherever I want. Also with wild evolved and final form pokemon, these are the first games I have actively tried completing the dex for since gen 2(excluding PLA). This has of course made me fairly powerful early but the levels have caught up with me.
Huge tip for people: Have multiple teams! If you feel overleved for one area because you missed it early on, you can switch out your main party into a lower-leveled team. Personally, I also had a 3rd team for just general exploration so neither of my other 2 teams ended up overleveled, and just never used team #3 in boss battles
A tip for anyone who is battling the fighting team star boss when she starts with her toxicroak use sword dance since her first Pokémon is coded to use sucker punch until it hits and if you set up for 5 turns with any set up move for 5 turns and then start attacking you will 100% sweep her team
ALSO You all should know that on any surface your Ride Pokémon slides on, instead jump on it backwards. For some reason you’ll be able to climb walls you really shouldn’t
@@geckohecko position your character so it faces you. Then jump. While in the air, tilt the stick towards the incline. When your ride-mon starts to slide forward, jump again (rinse and repeat!)
I don't comment very often on RUclips videos so I'll keep it brief: Wolfe, the way you present content has improved exponentially and am happy to see that your channel is succeeding due to it. I have a language processing disorder which made it difficult for me to keep up with you and what you were saying during your livestreams and RUclips videos, but over this year I've been able to access and understand you without difficulty. I can't wait for more competitive Scarlet and Violet content from you!
Another thing to mention is that the final pokemon for every team star boss has infinite PP on its moves. I was struggling with one and my only win condition at that point was PP stalling the steel move. It never ran out.
For anyone coming down to the comments I have a little tidbit of information for you. There is a secret that the game does not openly tell you, and that secret is: Bellibolt. Bellibolt is such a powerful Pokemon under the right conditions, speaking from experience Bellibolt can beat the last titan fairly easily at around lvl 35, for refence that titan is around lvl 55. Bellibolts ability electromorphis doubles the power of electric type moves if it has been hit that same turn, that coupled with its high defense makes it quite easy for Bellibolt to one shot things, even if they are 5-15 lvls higher. So play the game better, play the game fatter, play the game with two fake eyes, use Bellibolt.
Here's what I want from Scarlet and Violet 1 Rematching Gym Leaders Daily 2 Shiny Sounds 3 Catching The Box Legendaries Before Sada and Turo 4 More Uniform Choices 5 Permanent TMs
I jsut want the raid mechanic to be looked over, the animations from the raid boss take away so much of the limited time you have, like if the animations were shorter or if they didn’t count it as taking up time, I’d be fine with everything
i think a possible other solution would be recommended level labels. that way, players would still have a little more control over how hard the battles are, once they understand how the recommendations are calibrated
Iirc in some episodes of the anime, the gym leaders had multiple teams of Pokemon depending on their opponent's level, so it'd be cool if the gym leaders had a set team for each order and maybe you could see an animation of them choosing their team or something.
Things I wish I knew in Pokémon before Scarlet/Violet: -I should’ve listened to Pokémon Challenges when he said X items are op. Being able to beat up Grusha at lvl35 was funny as hell
Regarding that second point, I was exploring in depth until I realized that the competitive scene already started and after playing for 4 whole days I hadn’t even gotten my 2nd badge so I said screw it, I’ll just plow through the main story and go back for the loot
@@Kavycks I mean, there was a reason. To play in the competitive scene. In any competitive game, the first days are always the most fun because nobody has figured out the meta yet.
@@Kavycks and not only that, I've run into online matches I've won where I can tell people rushed through the game because of how unprepared they were when facing a new Pokemon or didn't know about an ability that would have been otherwise easy to overcome if you had taken the time to learn it on your story playthrough. Sure, beating the game and getting your team-building tools ASAP is neat, but it is really obvious when I play against someone who just pulled a team from someone else or slotted in 'the best pokemon' from a Google search without knowing its interactions. I can't tell you how many times Farigiraf's Armor Tail is blocking the same moves so many turns in a row, because people don't know about it or just can't read.
Beating great tusk when I was level 30 only to find out that bad boy was like level 45 was pretty insane 🤣 I also remember finding my 8th yellow black stake and getting the “Pokémon roar” pop up like what the heck was that. And then several hours later finding a big yellow circle on a wall and the surprise that gave
Though I got frustrated when my Pokemon would ignore my Battle moves until my son explained I hadn't won enough gym badges to be able to control that level yet.
I catched about 240 Pokémon when I learned that when you get your Pokédex assessed, they give you some items such as Quick Balls, Moon Stone and others. Try it on your Pokédex!🎉
Kinda late on this but certain marks can also be earned by a Pokemon. For example: my starter gained the Partner Mark after a long time of having it on my team and basically being the only pokemon I didn't remove from my team. That being said marks are so cool! Amazing video!
Yes exactly lol, I came here to say this, the art teacher outright explains marks in one of his lessons and how some are there from the start while others are earned...guess he wasn't quite paying attention in class 😉
The Team Star Boss Pokémon have a move where it harshly drops their Speed afterwards. So they are very fast and will usually be quicker than you but you can find yourself in a situation where you're suddenly faster after they use that move 😊 Anyway, great tips and fun video 😊
I'd rather they focus on improving on the open world. Add some side quest. Turn caves into puzzle-like dungeons with rewards like rare pokemon and items to find. Put more activities and story beats in cities. They're only scratching the surface of what an open world can really be. It would also be fun to have a wide variety of pokemon for traversal. Maybe even bring back hm's. With the way boxes work now, it would be much less of a hassle compared to past games.
I'm glad you're giving mostly positive takes on Scarlet/Violet despite the flaws. It's nice to see someone on youtube give honest takes rather than rage for clicks.
@@ruukinen have you seen how poorly the game runs? (it's perfomance alone makes it worse than all the previous games, arguably including gen 1) the "pokemon" designs that look nothing like pokemon? the difficulty, which is just as bad as it was in prior 3D games, how the open world design is directly contradicted by the lack of level scaling?, it's like they designed the game like normal, and then made it open world without doing even the bare minimum to make it work and i could go on and on
@@fortnitesexman First of all I've played the game and the occasional stutter doesn't really phase me in a Pokemon game. Secondly, the designs have been garbage since gen 2 at least until you get used to them. Not having level scaling is a good thing. That means you can actually have difficult content if you want to. What makes it better than other games is the freedom to go wherever you please, the ridiculous amount of mons you can catch before really even starting the story progression and the options to improve your team that you have without having to make it to the post game. The vistas are amazing texture quality not withstanding. What I still miss is new game +, difficulty settings and even more freedom and control with ivs and evs. Terrastalization is an amazing gimmick.
@@ruukinen I agree that I still had fun with the game but the other guy was right the performance issues were TERRIBLE. Maybe you didn’t experience them as badly as other people. Wolfey helllaaa downplayed these issues and ngl i think he doesn’t care about giving an honest review, i feel like he just wants more people to buy the game and sub to his channel
One thing I love about the game is that they further streamlined the ease to get a competitive team. I've never gotten into competitive Pokémon due the work needed for it (even though it has been made a LOT easier in recent entries) but this time I actually feel like doing it. You can get good IV pokëmons from raids and even if you don't you can actually buy the bottle caps now AND they're only 20k each. AND the nature mints are also buyable as are the good battle items as well. And on top of EV training ain't bad either since the Power items cost only 10k each as well. No matter if you go catch a random pokemon you want or decide to breed for one, or if you find a lucky shiny you CAN make it for competitive use now. EDIT: Oh yeah, and you can also buy (or get from raids) Ability Capsules as well. You CAN also get Ability Patches from end-game raids to get hidden abilities that way as well, but the drop rate for those seems to be rather low, only found two so far and one of 'em I used for my raid mon. ...The ONLY THING I ain't fan of is that there's no alternate way (at least yet) to learn any egg moves. A thing my poor shiny Kingambit fell victim to since it can't learn Sucker Punch now... Or how if you evolve Shroomish too early, there's no access to Spore for it. If they can fix those things in DLC this is more or less the best as it can get for me.
I just wish they had recommended levels on the map for the Gym Leaders, Titan Pokemon, and Team Star bases. This would allow you to quickly figure out your own route to get what you want. Although, that might take away from the illusion of freedom thing they've got going on. I guess we'll just have to wait for Bulbapedia to make a page on SV Boss levels.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the circle around their location on the map corresponds to how difficult they are if you were to face them now. When I beat the bug gym the 1st titan and about 2 gyms were green and the distant ones were dark red
Fun fact about marks: SV added a handful of new marks that can appear on pre-existing Pokemon, unlike how in SwSh all marks were determined when the Pokemon was created.
I absolutely LOVE the way this game handles TMs. Idk if anyone’s talked about it but remembering moves -especially if you caught a high level Pokémon- is great too, most of them already have a backlog of moves that you might wanna consider switching in if you need certain move types for a battle, bc you can literally switch them back! Tbh I probably do this more often than crafting the TMs themselves.
The auto heal feature is also super nice. Basic potions are the most cost effective healing but do it in small doses, you can however afford a larger more effective healing pool for kinda cheap between battles. I dumped money on around 200 and could just autoheal whenever out of combat. Was a lovely quality of life improvement. Might even be a better option if fresh water etc. count for autoheal but I didn't look into it further since the potions did the job
RUclips suggested this video to me and I ended up finding it quite useful and entertaining. You've earned yourself a subscriber here! Now, I haven't "finished" Scarlet, as I haven't had that much time to play the game. I have been taking in all three routes at the same time, going around the map and doing whatever's close-by. I managed to beat Team Star bosses by combining my Tallonflame's insane speed with super effective moves by another 2 or 3 pokemon, while having the rest of the party there just to revive the super effective mons. It was very challenging, especially because I ended up being 20 levels below one of the bosses, but I still manage to do it. I stopped progressing through the story as soon as I've earned all the badges (from all 3 routes), as I realized I was nowhere near as strong as I should be, going forward. I've been exploring, levelling up, grinding, improving my team, and it's been an amazing experience, just like you describe in this here video! I guess they've integrated enough aspects from Legends Arceus to make this gen amazing, despite the bugs and frame rate issues. Anyway, just sharing my experience so far. Great video and I'll stick around, waiting for more content! ;)
I knew about fast travel from the beginning but spent so much time not using them bc I thought it was so fun to just go there myself. Now that’s a good game!
As of right now I've beaten 3 gyms, 3 titans and 1 team star base That 2nd star boss is a pain, I'm way over his level at this point but still can't beat him, just this one fight alone is WAY more difficult that all of sword and shield
Tip 11: This goes for any Pokemon game, but it's especially the case here since grinding levels is so much easier - switch out your pokemon as gym battles/star bases need. Don't try to power through with the team you've had since the beginning. So many people I've seen struggle with certain gym battles (cough* Larry *cough) because they don't have something good against that team. If you take a second to train up a new pokemon that would be good against the next type battle you're looking at, it will pay off very well.
After sword shields drama I wasnt sure how’d this game do but scarlet and violet and overall a wonderful direction for the games to lead to in the future
I was extremely confused by star battles. One minute my status moves would work and the next they wouldn’t. I was using the salt guys main move in case you were wondering. Gotta stop those spoilers
1 more tip is that size differences can’t be changed once you catch the Pokémon, however there is a ribbon you can get for having the biggest version of a Pokémon, and I’m guessing there might be one for small size too
There are a couple other tips you could compile if you plan on making a second video. For example, completing the school courses and then completing the mini stories with the teachers give some decent rewards. Also, if you open your Pokedex and start browsing, you can press x to get small rewards for every 10 Pokemon caught. There's a bunch of small things like that I'm sure a bunch of people are missing.
Yeah. I quickly found out about the bonuses the Pokedex gives you for catching mons. Still wish this game had something for ones in the boxes to do like Gen 7 & 8.
As far as picking up every item, I'd reccomend finding a pokemon that can keep up with your mount (pre-sprinting) and sending them into Lets Go Mode, then just running around, avoiding battles as you go. Its easier than spamming the A button and having to heel-turn every time you barely miss an item, and quite a few evolved pokemom are fast enough to follow. (As an easy example, Cyclizar keeps up with your mount and is available in both games by lvl 20. Mine was a game-changer for berry grinding)
i love that they did this with these games! giving us the ability to rome around and do whatever with little restrictions instead of everything being level and badge restricted and only being allowed to do so much within the game even with the needed badges, etc. these new pokémon games are as if Pokémon met Zelda Breathe of the Wild so much exploration and so much to do within the game.
there were many times I was 10-20 lvls below whatever I was fighting, it was fun but challenging especially since I made a terrible team (I always choose 'my through the game team' based of visual design alone and just rework it so something good later)
At first, I was a little disappointed that the game didn't level scale. But Im not gonna lie, it's a really good feeling to stumble across a boss you shouldn't have fought yet and coming out with a W.
They made getting a competitive team easier and more efficient than ever as well. I also love how quick breeding and hatching eggs are. And how you can teach a pokemon an egg move by having another pokemon in that same egg group teach it to them.
How?? Now I have to use ev reducing berries instead of lady clear and making money is a pain the ass now. With meowth last gen it was really easy to make money
Also yes, so grateful that breeding and hatching is so much quicker. Breeding Indeedee was the absolute worst last game (10k steps 😩 and half the eggs were the wrong sex) and it's an almost tolerable experience now
Wolfey, you should rate some of the new Pokémon. I wanna know what you think of Glimmora, especially as a setup mon. I don’t know much about competitive, but I think focus sash with stealth rock and then explode
hazards aren't as good in VGC compared to singles because games are so fast, but an early team used offensive assault vest glimmora because it has a good movepool, high special attack and pretty solid defenses!
I just got the notification that my Scarlet and Violet order has finally arrived at my house. I'm looking forward to my new Pokemon Journey and I will take the tips in this video to heart while playing.
You're so right wolfey, so many things to explore! I love when I go off the main road and I find the most bland area ever, and I'm rewarded with random items and maybe a new TM. So much effort put into details! 10/10 Pokemon game.
Ok so the begging did indeed make me subscribe because it was funny. This is the first video I've watched from this channel. I do recommend watching this before opening the game because this game doesn't tell you right off the bat that your unpacking a lot. It's like unpacking breath of the wild for the first time.
The things that I love about the game is how it takes the best parts of past games and sticks them into one, for me it really works and makes me the slightest bit nostalgic of sword and shield (even though i only played it like 1 year ago). Just the main problem for me is the graphics, I understand that this is an open world game but looking at legends arceus I really wish they spent a bit more time working on how the enviroment looks graphic wise. But really I love the game, and I love the spanish influence on it.
Auto battles makes leveling through the game a piece of cake. Was consistently 5-15 levels above the area I was at during all times. People say Pokémon has become too easy, but as a seasoned competitive battler/shiny hunter, I am really enjoying the direction they’re taking. If you want to take it easy you can, if you want to sweat your balls off, YOU CAN. Game freak is making me happy:)
fuecoco is actually a really good choice to make the game easier since he has type advantage against the first two gyms and the last ice gym, and quaxly is the hardest as he is weak against the second gym and he is worse than sprigatito in his final evolution but he’s good for a challenging play through.
Dude I just got Scarlet for Christmas and have avoided spoilers best I can do I'm so pleased that you didn't include spoilers excluding the trailers, which I've already seen tho so thank you :p
Fighting Mella and Eri while underlevel has been one of the best experiences i've had playing a pokemon game, things I only experienced in romhacks and fangames, where I am 100% not ready for what's about to attack me and I need to formulate a strategy on the and somehow pull it of. Againts Mella ended up winning with my last pokemon, about 2-3 hp help, no revives and no potions that would heal me more than the god damn truck of hell would do the next attack. It was very down to the wire and I will probably remember that for a while.
One thing I like about the game is that there are random students out in the world of varying ages. Implying that they are doing classes even at a later age
One thing I like is the Auto Healing option, because if you wanna save time from manually healing your pokemon by selecting the right potion, auto healing not only does it with a single press of a button, but it also uses the minor potions first, not the best option automatically. You can basically buy tons of super potions and auto heal with those, while saving the full restores for later.
Benching your starter makes a surprising amount of difference for any player looking for levers to up the challenge. Those extra levels ahead they start with give you an extra boost that keeps you ahead of the curve for too long. And as an added bonus it makes your own playthrough feel a bit more personal and unique.
that and catching pokemon for the dex levels you super fast as well, might want to have a team for story, a team for catching, and a team for comp if people do that.
Something that wasn’t mentioned but I think is important is going back to the academy for classes. You get some items for completing midterms/finals, unlock conversations with teachers that can also get you some useful items, learn about mechanics in the games you may have not known (like how I didn’t know anything about how picnics worked til I went through Home Ec) and (my personal favorite) learn about the lore of the legendaries and region as a whole
Late. I remember when I first got the game. I did *not* plan on getting it, but watching my favorite streamers play it I was like ‘aight imma get it, and I’m gonna complete the Pokédex for the first time ever’. I was on a path and looked at the time and it was like 3.. and by the time I finished catching all the Pokémon in that ONE are it was like 8. I was like what the hell- time fleeeeeww by
Something I’ve seen no one mention anywhere is that if you’re in battle and you click the right stick it reverse the camera to the traditional Pokémon battle ciew.
Bosses tend to be 1-2 levels higher than nearby trainers and wild Pokémon. It's a good way to tell if your Pokémon are strong enough for upcoming boss fights.
This gen has the most balanced starters. All of them are viable comptetively. Quaquaval can sweep and become a monster with aqua step and moxie, Skeledirge can also become a special sweeper with sing set, but where he shines is his unaware ability which is very handy. Meowscarada is not that special due to protean being nerfed to oblivion, but he can still be used as a pivot. Competitive aside, these 3 starters are pretty much neck to neck in the actual game, which is pretty cool I guess..
The one thing I wish I knew before playing was how the gym badge level thing works. I beat the first gym and they said pokemon level 20 and under are easier to catch and will listen. Turns out any pokemon you catch and raise past 20 will still listen to you. Not like previous gens where they ignore you. I skipped lots of battles because I didn't want my pokemon to over level
That's the case in most Pokémon games. I think Legends is the only one where all Pokémon won't listen to you above your level, as opposed to only ones that don't match your Trainer ID and secret ID (aka Pokémon obtained in trades or events).
I kept it simple, I played scarlet mostly in order. For Violet however, I grinded out specific teams/mons to tackle the titans right out of the gate, I then boxed those pokemon and went back and did other things, I trained a seperate team for every gym/star base that was on level and designed to tackle their element of choice, so I had a team of water/ground types for the fire base for example. I always matched the number of pokemon and the level of the pokemon to my opponents, I played on set mode and I never went out of my way to ev train or learn overly powerful TMs. This way the game stayed a challange throughout, I had the ultimate freedom to explore anything whenever I felt like it, I hade a supers strong false swipe mon to nab anything from the wilds, that I then would breed to get a low level version to use haha. All in all, self-imposed, but I had a lot more fun this way :) In hindsight I would probably limit myself to having no moves with more than 60-70 base power, restrict myself to one type advantage pokemon per gym/base, and even maybe impose a -5 penalty to my team members levels. The games are fun, but the AI is lacking, where are the whitneys, the Cynthias and the other bullshit mechanic abusers? Like there is a normal gym leader and he doesnt even abuse facade when its his signature move? They could've done so much more to challange the player. But yeah, in short I did the following to have a challange: 1. Cleared all titans by grinding, free movement is big. 2. Never overleveled a gym/star base, never brought more pokemon than they had. 3. Limited TM usage. No held items, no EV training. What I would've added going forward? 1. No-cross type moves besides normal, so a bug flying type only has bug and flying type attacks. 2. No moves with higher base power than 60 for the first 4 gyms / 2 bases. 3. Only one mon per team with a type advantage. Having to struggle is the main fun of any combat I feel, and sure these are self-imposed challanges, but challanges that step away from nuzlocking while keeping with the spirit of making the game harder.
Ah, I can see you haven't done your lessons at the academy. You can get certain marks after catching Pokémon and raising them a little. It was even on the mid-term test as a question, which is why I remember it...
what i love most about this game is eventually exploring you will find a pokemon with an abnormally higher level than the average for the area and I love those unexpected challenges. I found early in the game a level 50 Jolteon. That was a great fight (my team was around level 20} and capturing it was so rewarding!
Thank you so much for this video. Although I ordered this game a long time ago (and it still haven’t been shipped due to regional reasons) I haven’t spoiled myself much about the single player experience (only competitive side, since it is my first gen when I want to learn competitive) and this video assured me that I made a great decision about buying this game without major spoilers. Thank you, Wolfe! Your few last videos really help a lot!!
The level scaling is the biggest for me. I took on the ground titan first, and then the flying titan, and I absolutely OBLITERATED the flying one. I also had some gyms overleveled. Only once did I encounter a gym that I was slightly underleveled for, and my typing didn't really help either, but that was probably one of the more fun fights too, seeing as I ended up with 5 Pokemon knocked out and the last one being on 1 HP after winning
I learned how to autobattle before they teach you how to do it, had a fun time just messing around the plains, ended with an overleveled pig before doing the first mission. The bug gym leader lady probably died of stroke when she saw her pokemons get pissed on by LECHONK

Regarding the Auto-Battles, if your Pokemon refuses to go after a specific wild Pokemon, it's most likely a shiny. So no, you won't lose those because of the system.
I am never going to trust this, EVER!
@@cyberdoguk3667 it's true. I've tested myself
I used this method to find a shiny, then I crit it 🥲
Im someone who mainly saves shiny hunting as a post game activity, there have been many times where pokemon refuse to auto battle. I still do not trust the AI, and I was only able to confirm because cubchoo is such a lackluster shiny, I wouldnt have cared if it did get knocked out
@@cyberdoguk3667 you can check guides on RUclips, many people tried it and the auttp battling Pokemon just refused by shaking their head and coming back to you
Titan Klawf should always be your first target in this game. Just the ability to sprint alone is massive. One of the biggest time savers in the game.
I made the mistake of fighting Klawf after doing Bombirdier and Donphan. I felt dumb after realizing I could swim and glide, but not dash, until I was halfway through the Titans.

For some reason Wolfe likes to use a GC controller so much that, even if it lacks this feature, he still uses it.
The game literally tells you this in the intro
omg I wish I knew this I was getting so lost ALL the time lol
Another thing the game doesn't tell you:
The upgrades to Koraidon / Miraidon are actually based on which titan you defeated, rather than how many titans you defeated.

Agree that level scaling need to happen, especially with the gym leaders. The bug gym was my 7th gym and had a team of level 40 against her level 10 pokemon.
I think it would be best if gyms had a set level and if you were over that level it would scale but if you were under it would stay at that set level
lol nah that's why I love it. makes blasting through that stupid story easy.

I think sprigatito is actually the hardest option because he struggles against alot of the early bosses like Katy, brassius mela, and bombirdier.
The snowballing of a move doesn’t matter as much in a play through, because most battles are against just one Pokémon.
In competitive, different story
I think if you want to avoid the problem of facing important battles too early or late, the best thing is to look at the description of the battle on the map. It indicates whether the fight is a first stop for trainers or the strongest opponent
Pokecenters also tell you where to go next if you ask them.
@@ruukinen they just tell you where the closest boss battle is, not the one that suits your level
From there it got steady for me but still gave me a challenge once you got the easy ones out the way
Nah, the "tips" are absolutely trash hints for how difficult the titan/gym/base is
For anyone that wants it.
Order of story:

Rock - Lv. 16
Grass - Lv. 18
Flying - Lv. 19
Dark - Lv. 21

Fairy - Lv. 51

What is this?
11th tip, but having more than one team is really helpful for keeping the game fun. If you come across a stronger gym, you can use your strongest team. If you find a weaker gym, switch to a weaker team.
This is really easy to do because this game just has so many pokemon to make multiple viable teams, and using different pokemon added fun to my game
Weak: This game needs level scaling.
Woke: level scale it yourself
That's actually such a good idea
I imposed stuff like adding a new Pokemon to the team before hitting the next gym or only using new Paldean ones I've never used before, and it really added so much fun and difficulty to the game.
Exactly how I play
@@stfueg0 same i did the whole play through with new pokemon only it made me appreciate the designs and the games a lot more
You can definitely lower the stats of the starmobiles.
That is very similar to how I beat it whilst being heavily underleveld. Intimidate cycling ftw :P.
Herba Mystica

Not only are you getting this plant to save your friend's dying dog, but you beat big Pokémon to learn HMs.
GameFreak you MADLADS.
Honestly, with no level scaling, I think you can run 3 different teams for the 3 story lines and have fun with it
I didn't think of that, that's smart
As someone who is getting the game for christmas, I'm planning to do that.
as smart as that sounds no only gym badges increase your maximum level unless you always do every gym first
That's a great suggestion. I don't like level schaling as it makes me feel my progress is partly nullified.
Pokemon fans literally excuse everything lazy from GF
I found out stat dropping moves worked because Charm was what allowed my Azumarill to survive with a couple attacks from the Poison Revaroom

Here's what I want from Scarlet and Violet

2 Shiny Sounds
3 Catching The Box Legendaries Before Sada and Turo
4 More Uniform Choices

Sounds for shinies is so helpful especially when it's like a one shade difference

@@Hide____ exactly I was fighting a 5 star boss with bullet seed and I lost 3 times because it wasted too much time
Level Scaling too
Hopefully Generation 10 fixes the level scaling if they're going to keep the non linear battles. But I'm not holding my breath.
i think a possible other solution would be recommended level labels. that way, players would still have a little more control over how hard the battles are, once they understand how the recommendations are calibrated
Or maybe give more options for different playstyles.
Iirc in some episodes of the anime, the gym leaders had multiple teams of Pokemon depending on their opponent's level, so it'd be cool if the gym leaders had a set team for each order and maybe you could see an animation of them choosing their team or something.

X items are arguably more of a reason than healing items for all the no items in battle challenges
that's just all pokemon games

Regarding that second point, I was exploring in depth until I realized that the competitive scene already started and after playing for 4 whole days I hadn’t even gotten my 2nd badge so I said screw it, I’ll just plow through the main story and go back for the loot
That just ruins the game though like why not just play the game for fun instead of rushing though it for no reason
@@Kavycks I mean, there was a reason. To play in the competitive scene. In any competitive game, the first days are always the most fun because nobody has figured out the meta yet.

You make exploration sound so cool. To me, the game just felt empty, and everything I find is TM's I'll never use.
Because the open world is empty. Especially if you compare it to other open world games
Wolfey your reviews are great keep creating more content
6:11 It's got speed boost from memory hence why it was seemingly unable to have it's speed lowered!
The Team Star Boss Pokémon have a move where it harshly drops their Speed afterwards. So they are very fast and will usually be quicker than you but you can find yourself in a situation where you're suddenly faster after they use that move 😊
Anyway, great tips and fun video 😊
This game is such a major step in the right direction. Give us manual difficulty options and level scaling and we have a masterpiece

@@fortnitesexman First of all I've played the game and the occasional stutter doesn't really phase me in a Pokemon game. What makes it better than other games is the freedom to go wherever you please, the ridiculous amount of mons you can catch before really even starting the story progression and the options to improve your team that you have without having to make it to the post game.
You can learn egg moves if the Pokemon is holding the mirror herb item!

Biggest thing I can recommend is if you are doing a straight playthrough, do raids because you can get XP candies.
I never bought any potions. You pick up plenty on the way
RUclips suggested this video to me and I ended up finding it quite useful and entertaining.
As of right now I've beaten 3 gyms, 3 titans and 1 team star base
That 2nd star boss is a pain, I'm way over his level at this point but still can't beat him, just this one fight alone is WAY more difficult that all of sword and shield
How does anyone struggle with him?!
@@MayHugger Very few struggle but I didn't get one of my Pokemon taken out so I guess that would be considered struggling

Maybe by Gen 15 we'll get level scaling. Would be nice to have Gym teams scale slightly to your level.
i love that they did this with these games! giving us the ability to rome around and do whatever with little restrictions instead of everything being level and badge restricted and only being allowed to do so much within the game even with the needed badges, etc. these new pokémon games are as if Pokémon met Zelda Breathe of the Wild so much exploration and so much to do within the game.
I hate that you can’t go into random houses anymore 😂😂😂
5:55 lol I remember trying to use toxic against the trucks every time and being dissapointed when it never worked.
there were many times I was 10-20 lvls below whatever I was fighting, it was fun but challenging especially since I made a terrible team (I always choose 'my through the game team' based of visual design alone and just rework it so something good later)
At first, I was a little disappointed that the game didn't level scale. But Im not gonna lie, it's a really good feeling to stumble across a boss you shouldn't have fought yet and coming out with a W.
I think how it should work is with each badge you get the lowest challenge of that quest get its level increased.
@@tobymacdonald5893 I'm guessing they're adding it to the DLC like they did in swsh. Lady Clear only was added with the Isle of Armor.
Also yes, so grateful that breeding and hatching is so much quicker. Breeding Indeedee was the absolute worst last game (10k steps 😩 and half the eggs were the wrong sex) and it's an almost tolerable experience now
I was 5-10 levels under for most of the game, and I honestly think of that as a good thing because it made battles truly fun.
The Titan thing is definitely one of the first things you should do. It opens up so much even in lower level areas.
Yeah I beat Klawf last by accident lol. I pretty much just went clockwise from Mesagoza instead of bottom to top.
Thank you WolfeyVGC more content PLEAAASE!
I’ve definitely learned how important status boosters are. I used a dragon dance flygon on a water gym and absolutely destroyed them
Dude I just got Scarlet for Christmas and have avoided spoilers best I can do I'm so pleased that you didn't include spoilers excluding the trailers, which I've already seen tho so thank you :p
08:20 Ursaring sitting down in the background was very cute!
Meowscarda is the highest ranked one in OU
This is the best kind of advice you'd give since I wish there would be more info that isn't a 30 min screenshare presentation.
…WHAT
It’s crazy, the overwhelming positive reviews about this game, typically new games, gather complaint after complaint
But yeah, in short I did the following to have a challange:
Having to struggle is the main fun of any combat I feel, and sure these are self-imposed challanges, but challanges that step away from nuzlocking while keeping with the spirit of making the game harder.
small note: auto battle doesn't increase EV's unless the pokemon has an EV bracer
Ah, I can see you haven't done your lessons at the academy. You can get certain marks after catching Pokémon and raising them a little. It was even on the mid-term test as a question, which is why I remember it...
Finally a youtube video talking about the good parts of this game instead of talking about the FPS drops
"[Auto battling is] actually a common feature in jRPGs"
*cuts to footage of the Reaper*
what i love most about this game is eventually exploring you will find a pokemon with an abnormally higher level than the average for the area and I love those unexpected challenges. I found early in the game a level 50 Jolteon. That was a great fight (my team was around level 20} and capturing it was so rewarding!
Right after I did the first Titan pokemon, I immediately prioritized the other ones. Got the last one around lvl 30, just to be able to travel faster.
The bug gym leader lady probably died of stroke when she saw her pokemons get pissed on by LECHONK
thanks for making these mostly spoiler free! :)
