Thank you so much for this video. My son watched this video several times before taking the DMV test for the second time. The first time he missed 23! He was very nervous. Thanks to your video, a few months later, he missed 8 when he took it the second time! He was much calmer and more confident this time. You are a gifted teacher. Thank you.
You are so welcome! What a humbling comment, this really means the world to us and Jay. Thank you so much for watching and CONGRATS to your son on passing his test, what a huge achievement! Best of luck to you all on your lifelong driving journey, please stay safe out there!!
Great video. It helped me pass my California driving test today on my first try!
Yes! What great news, Gervais! A huge congrats to you on earning your license on the first try, way to go! Thank you for letting us know, please stay safe out there!
I watch y'all playlist learn to drive. I wish I had this while back. But with a lot going on with my past. Now at the 35 going on 36 I am ready to take on this next journey to learn how to drive. I am watching and learning as a basic rookie upcoming driver. Going take my Permit written test May 7th in Las Vegas, Nevada. They got their test little different. 25 questions, if I get 20 right, they will stop the test and call it a pass, if I get 6 incorrect questions Is a failure. So, watching y'all video playlist in California it reminds me the fundamentals of drivers in the West Coast. Keep up the great work Drivers Ed Direct Driving School. I will keep watching and listening. Stay Blessed peace.
Thanks for sharing a little bit about your story and how it works in NV! Appreciate the support and we wish you the best of luck on your driving journey 🙏🏽 Stay safe out there!
21:03. But if the examiner requests you to make the right on the red light, I would think that may be considered “intervening”, which may be a critical error. I wish they knew their handbook better, which you showed states that not turning a right on a red is not illegal. Great video
I hear you, that's a tough call! The main thing is, IF your decide to make a right turn on red, then you must be 100% certain you are being safe and not impeding any pedestrians or cross traffic. That's why we say to just wait for the green light if you can, it really reduces the chance of an auto fail. With that said, we have had a few students who told us that the DMV examiner asked them to make the right on red (maybe they were tired of waiting, or maybe a long line of cars was lining up behind them). Even if the DMV examiner asks you to do a right on red, you have to make sure it is safe and only go if you know it is safe and legal. And the examiner shouldn't count it as "intervention" becasue they are more just telling you to go for convenience - remember, there is nowhere in the DMV handbook or vehicle code that says you have to make a right at a red light.
Perfect video for DMV tests! Thank you, sir! More power!

Nice Katherine, thank you for sharing! A little bit of nerves is a good thing, it just shows you really care about earning your license. Sounds like you are taking your training seriously - combine that with a good dose of practice (plus even more practice) and you can go to the DMV on 6/28 knowing you are well prepared. I was just at Pierce college a couple of days ago. I would not mind going all the way to that DMV if I knew you could be my examiner.
Hello! Thank you for the kind words!! Drivers Ed Direct provides driving lessons for teaching how to drive and to help get you ready for the test. We can also take you to the DMV so you can take the test in one of our cars on test day. However, the actual driving exam is administered by a DMV examiner employed by the state of California DMV. Thank you for very informative video. I have another question regarding “children are present” school speed zone . If children are present on the playing field that is fenced should I slow down to 25 mph and if there is unfenced or gate open on the field and children are playing there what are the speed rules ?
Hello again! If all children are within a fenced area (for example, within a fenced playground), then you do not necessarily need to slow down to 25mph. However, if any children are outside of the fenced area and walking on the sidewalk, waiting at the cross walk, etc., then you should slow down to the 25mph school zone speed limit. Hope that helps!
I feel a lot more confident now! I failed my first test because I did not enter the center lane correctly, impeding traffic. On my second test I turned right on a red light because I thought that I had to... I failed bc my examiner said that I should never trust approaching vehicles that have their blinkers on!
Thanks for sharing that, it is very helpful for other test takers who can learn from your experience! Both of those test fails are on our top 10 list here: ruclips.net/video/ohn197Im7KM/видео.html

Hi Drivers Ed!I have a questions! When making a right hand turn at the traffic light Do you have to stop at the limit line before procceding when you have the green light?
Thank you!
Hello from Drivers Ed Direct! If you are making a right turn at a GREEN light, you do not have to stop at the limit line before proceeding. You do have to yield to pedestrians and any traffic already in the intersection, but if everything is clear, you can just make your right turn without stopping first.
Hope that helps!

@@DriversEdDirectI failed today due to the moving violation. Automatic failed. I will try next Monday.
Is there a pre-drive test (the questions) in every state? Specifically wondering about NY.
Hello! Our questions are from California tests, though many of the laws and rules apply nationwide. For NY, here is a link to the driver handbook and practice tests that you will find helpful: dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/drivers-manual-practice-tests
Thanks for asking!
21:30 That car on the right was making me nervous 😬
If you don’t pass your behind the wheel drive test 3 times, do you have to do your permit test again?
Hello! As long as your permit is still valid (not expired), you don't have to take the permit test again. If you fail the drive test 3 times, you will just be required to reapply for a DL and pay all applicable application fees again.
Hope that helps!
I am taking my test tomorrow in Simi Valley. I am very nervous
Good luck to you, you can do it! Looks like it is raining here in SoCal today, so please makes sure you turn on your low beams and use your windshield wipers as needed. Also, it's okay to drive a few miles under the speed limit if the roads are wet and slippery. Please let us know how it goes, you've got this!!
Hello my first time watching your video I am going to take my drive test and I had a question what if I don't have a car
Hello! You can take the test in someone else's car as long as they have valid registration and insurance, and of course the car needs to be in good working order too (the examiner will observe your tires, lights, horn, etc. to make sure everything is safe and working). Some of our students also hire us (as a driving school) so that they can take the DMV drive test in our car.
Hope that helps!
In Michigan we don't have a DMV. It's called the Secretary of State. They no longer administer Road test just Written test. They do contract with Private test sites. Most of these sites offer rental cars for a small fee. That's what I did 6/9/23 had a great car. I also passed.😊.
@@DriversEdDirect sir please tell me how to slow down your speed
@@DriversEdDirect how to slow down a vehicle
I’m confused about the end. Why would I need to use SMOG when using left center turn lane when I’d fully be able to look at the oncoming traffic in front of me? It’s not like they’d be behind me
Hello, great question! You need to SMOG (Signal Mirror Over-the-shoulder Go) before you make any lane change. When you prepare to move into the left turn lane, you need to check your blind spots on the left before changing into this new lane. Also, when you look over your shoulder, you scan for potential hazards that you might have to deal with when you eventually turn. For example, if you are turning left into a driveway, you want to check for pedestrians, scooters, or bicyclists that may be crossing your path. Hope that helps!
I understand what you mentioned about right turn red light, but applying to the test, how will i know what will be the best to pass this part of the test? Meaning the driver instructor will say:
Ahead of time: Make a right turn in the next light or street, you can cross it on red when safe.
Or
Make a righ turn in the next ligth or street, and then you get in the stop, so the instructor then will say go on red when safe.
Or
Make a right turn in the next light or street, and not say anything else ( and i have to decide to turn after full stop and when is safe or wait for the green light to go) but i might get in trouble, either for going on red, or maybe because when im still waiting for light to turn green, am holding traffic and i will get in trouble as well.
Blessings. Please if you can help and thank you.
Hello, I understand your concerns! The main things to remember are:
1) You do not HAVE to make a right turn on red. The examiner really shouldn't ask you do do it, but maybe if they are in a hurry, or if there are many cars behind you and they don't want to get honked at. But usually, the examiner won't ask you specifically to make a right on red. They'll just say "make a right at the next light" and then it's up to you to make a safe and legal turn.
2) If you do make a right on a red, just make sure you do it safely and legally. Practice them ahead of time so that you are comfortable doing them without impeding any traffic or pedestrians.
Hope that helps and best of luck to you!
Thank you so very much. I really appreciate it the help.
I do have another concern. I see you guys mentioned about, if the case is that you get asked for a right turn, and that street has a bike lane that is solid and dotted at the end of the corner, crossing this bike lane, I understand to move to it, you have to do it, SMOG, only move in the bike lane at the dotted part , to be able to get to the corner to make the turn. BUT, I have seen videos and by others sites and manual Information adding that, you can get in the solid line before the dotted 200 feet before the corner to turn, to avoid holding traffic behind, some Instructors I guess they minus points for not doing that, but they did say it like has to be that way. So I'm so confused.
One thing is you have to follow the rules of geyt in the bike lane only in the dotted area for that right turn. I MIGHT GET IT WRONG in the test.
Other thing, is you can, I guess, you can get in the solid before the dotted, for 200 feet before the right turn, YOU CAN, BUT you don't have to? Because I might get it wrong on the test.
Please, hope for your help. Thank you again so so very much.
@@myag1661 Hello! In California you should not cross a white line in most situations. However, CA Vehicle Code allows you do enter a bike lane up to 200 feet before your turn, so you may technically cross over the solid white line to enter the bike lane if needed. Ideally, you should wait for the white line to become broken because crossing a solid line is highly discouraged even when legal, however (as you mentioned) there are some situations where it is unavoidable when entering a bike lane prior to turning - just make sure you are within 200 feet of the intersection. Hope that helps!

Ok how does it work by the way seeing you don’t have a license can you still take someones car and drive it legally to the dmv or will someone have to take you?
Hello, thanks for reaching out! If you don't have a driver's license, then you cannot legally drive by yourself to the DMV and you will need to have someone else drive you there OR you can drive there with your learner permit, but a qualified licensed driver needs to be in the passenger seat next to you. Hope that helps!
At 17:17 it talks about right aways at a 2 way stop. What if there is another car across the street at the stop sign signaling a left turn. Do you go first or do they?
Hello and great question! In that case, whoever got there first has the right of way. If both cars arrived at the same time and both were turning left, they could turn at the same time without interfering with each-other. Hope that helps!
@@DriversEdDirect thank you !!!
May I ask you how many inch shoul I park along the road on the right size near to the curb ?
Yes, you may! You want to park within 18 inches of the curb. Remember: if you hit the curb on your license drive test, it is an auto-fail. If you are a little too far away, it is only 1 minor point off. So ideally you want to be within 18 inches, but please err on the side of caution. Best of luck to you!!

So what is the speed limit around school when it says 25 unless children are present -when they are not present? Still 25 or more ? Btw CHP says to always assume like children are present and drive 25 around school for children safety . But you said it’s critical error to slow down if there no children around .
Hello, great question! I know this can be a confusing one, and we 100% agree that you should always be alert and scanning the road for children, and especially around school zones you need be extra alert for the potential of children being present. However, consider the situation where the normal speed limit is 45mph but there are absolutely no children present. If you unnecessarily slow down to 25mph, you are driving MUCH slower than the flow of traffic and have now become a potential hazard to other drivers (or at least are impeding the normal flow of traffic). Furthermore, if the state always wanted you to drive 25mph in a school zone, they would just change the actual speed limit to 25mph instead of having a special "school zone" speed limit sign that says "when children are present": upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/db/SchoolZone-SpeedLimitSignAndLight.JPG Hope that helps!
I have my test tomorrow in Lancaster. I drove out there a couple days ago to get familiar, but there were little to no speed limit signs. Is it ok to ask before the test starts about what to do in this situation? What should I do in general when I am driving and cannot see a speed limit sign posted?
Good luck tomorrow!! I would recommend NOT asking the DMV Examiner about speed limits, they are testing you on how you would drive if you were all by yourself without the ability to ask for help or advice. You can usually locate posted speed limit signs right after major intersections with traffic lights. Taking a quick look at the Lancaster DMV area on Google Maps, I see that generally, the posted speed limit is 25mph on the streets with one lane in each direction, 40mph the streets with two lanes in each direction, and 50mph the streets with 3 lanes in each direction. If there is no posted speed limit, then (in California) the default speed limit in residential and business districts is 25mph. Hope that helps!

@@DriversEdDirect thank you dear instructor,I mean what is the differnce between them?

@@abdulahadshamsi6358 Hi, thanks for clarifying! A T-intersection is a type of intersection where one road ends or terminates while intersecting another road that continues in both directions. In other words, a T-intersection is an intersection of two roads that looks like the capital letter “T”. This video will help demonstrate: ruclips.net/video/xgXkH4l4eQA/видео.html
An unprotected left turn is a left turn where you do not have the right of way and must yield to oncoming traffic, like you see demonstrated here: ruclips.net/video/QEds_x1c6Ow/видео.html
T-intersections and unprotected left turns are really 2 different concepts. In fact , there could be a situation where you are making an unprotected left turn at a T-intersection, as you see here: ruclips.net/video/xgXkH4l4eQA/видео.html

Just keep practicing and you'll be able to do it! With that said, they shouldn't fail you for poor parking unless you hit something or do something dangerous. If you just park a little crooked or unevenly, they should only deduct a single point, and you can miss 15 of those and still pass. Hope that helps!
I failed my driving test because I didn’t practice around dmv and all the streets was new and confusing 😢and I was nervous too with 16 mistakes 😭
Keep practicing and get familiar with the test area... you'll get there!! Thanks for sharing and best wishes for you on your next try!!!@@shakibakarimi8887
