- Ok, we filmed this back in 2013 and at the time it was really good for the value. Since then the quality has been going down drastically and I went back in August of 2019 out of curiosity and it's flatout become the worst food I've had in 8 years of living in Japan. Avoid this place at all costs, it's absolute trash!

UPDATE from 2019 :: Ok, we filmed this back in 2013 and at the time it was really good for the value. Since then the quality has been going down drastically and I went back in August of 2019 out of curiosity and it's flatout become the worst food I've had in 8 years of living in Japan. Avoid this place at all costs, it's absolute trash!
Agreed - have been about 10 times since you originally posted this and loved it, but went again a few weeks back and it's really gone downhill...
Agreed. Seattle Genki is crap now. Same company.
A shame when that happens.
Love going back and re-watching your old videos, great stuff.
+KelticAce18 Haha, I should check them out too sometime, but I never do! Haha. -Eric
I love the way you describe the food. It is almost like I am eating it with you.
I love you guys videos been watching since you first moved to Japan, you give lots of good information, and its very realistic and human, keep up the good work, and continued luck and prosperity
+Keisha Vasser Thanks so much! -Eric
@Kyde and Eric
What are your favorite animals? All your videos are outstanding! (By the way, my favorite animal is a bat.)
I like lots of animals, but recently I've been captivated by hedgehogs and capibara! -E
I saw this video in 2013 about 2 months before I was scheduled to go to Tokyo. It was a major trip for me being my last bucket list item. And I fell in love with this restaurant because of your video. I I made maps to get to Genki sushi and I ended up going there twice in 9 days. Every time this video comes back up in my random videos, I can't help but smile from ear to ear. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us all. And could you please find a way to send me some pepper ebi ? I have been craving it for almost 2 years now lol.
Karen Rader Haha, awesome. But to be fair you found the restaurant because of this video, but you fell in love with it because of the pepper ebi. -Eric
love your videos! Love you guys! And love sushi! Awsome videos. Hope to visit Japan one day. For now I will ave to watch you're videos :)
Ahh, that's awesome. We honestly never heard the phrase sushi-cha, but it's an easy one to remember.
I like the rice, so I won't need to be ordering it without! Plus if I didn't fill up on some rice I'd spend a fortune on fish!
fun fact. those little packets of wasabi are actually just horseradish that has been mixed with mustard and died green. real wasabi loses its flavor so quickly after it has been grated that it has to be served immediately or it looses its flavor. yes there is a wasabi section on youtube.
Our first day in Japan our guide took us this restaurant (90% sure it was this exact location). It was our first experience with, "we're in the future!". Fortunately one of the first choices on the touchpads is "Japanese or English?", but everything is pictured too, which makes it easy.
+David Cervera Yea, it's a very cool place to go if you have just arrived! -E
Nice! Singapore and Kuala Lumpur are pretty fun places to visit. Really good food in that part of the world too!
Looked in my subscriptions list, saw a new video from you guys and thought hells yea, gotta watch that!! Just wanted to say "hip hip hooray, it's your birthday!" Happy birthday Eric! What an awesome and modern sushi place, man it's been almost a year since I've had sushi, now I'm craving it and it's 3am here in Sydney! Might get some later today! Been watching youtube videos since about 7pm, I think I have a major addiction! Japan is awesome, it is one of my "one day" destinations to visit!
Yea, I've looked at the menu for the Genki Sushi in the states and it's a bit different than it is here, but it's totally worth a go!
I keep on seeing this like more than 59 times it's just so interesting
You both are such an inspiration to me, keep up the good work!
Yea, we will be here at least one more year. It's been super busy for us, but it's pretty nice to live closer to the city, that's for sure. Quick trips for shopping or dinner is a delight!
We'd love to go there too! A motorbike journey across the country would be amazing.
Just started watching your trip around the world guys! Love these food videos. Happy Birthday Eric!
I'm not sure how I found you, but you were showing your new home. FACINATING! Then I subscribed. The next vlog I chose was dated Aptil 17, 2013. April 17 is my birthday as it turns out to being Eric's, also. I'm in Houston, Texas and look forward to your journey. 😊 Diane
ケイディ、It was カルビ。If you go to yakiniku restaurant,
I recommend you order カルビ。You can't miss it.
I really like these videos! Thanks for taking the time to make them!
Happy B Day Eric! Thanks for another awesome video both of you! Can't wait to see a walk through of your new place. ^.^
I've watched so many of your videos, I now get japanese pre-roll ads. Thanks guys (I still love this channel though, haha)
lbonini1gaming Hahaha, nice. -Eric
Wow! Me too!
Really enjoy your video which brings back so many great memories I had as an exchange student at Aoyama Gakuin University 22 years ago! Shibuya was our playground. Kaiten sushi was never that high tech back then! Thanks again for the awesome videos you made.
Happy Birthday !, Awesome vlogs. Japan looks amazing, I subbed :]
Happy bday eric! Looks like fun...i wish to go japan someday....but im glad i get to see japan through u guys video....
Shiiiiibuuuyaaaaa!!!! Happy belated Eric! Great video!

You're welcome! It's awesome when people like our videos.
Probably seeing this really late but happy birthday and I started watching your guys videos witj the Halloween and black and white burger at McDonalds so I decided to follow along and keep watching :)

Kyde: You must obey that angry angry man.
*Laughing*
Eric: Otherwise *Super Serious Face* you get kicked out of the country.
LOL
Rewatching old vids due to a lack of new ones :'(
jessica daughtrey Haha. Dang, new videos will come soon! I promise! (But I won't define "soon", hahaha) -Eric
I'm rewatching because I want to be exposed to delicious sushi. ;-)
Kyde and Eric I've had Vegetable Sushi once..Nori, Rice and Carrots....it was good, and now I''m craving for actual Sushi....lol
Brooke Katz That sounds good! -Eric
Kyde and Eric It was during a school assembly
Happy Birthday, Eric! :D After I watched this, I think sushi is the best way to celebrate a birthday! XD
鮨 means "anything made with vinegared rice" but the more commonly used 寿司 means something along the lines of "office of long lives." Neither actually literally means vinegared rice as it vinegar is written 酢, which coincidentally is pronounced す. 酸し does in fact get used (for what I don't know) but only has around ~17,900 hits on google compared to 104,000,00 (寿司) and 14,000,000 (鮨) so I think it's safe to say it's an uncommon if not never used variation.
If you are going to move here just jump in, learn your hiragana and katakana tables. The book "Genki: An integrated Course in Elementary Japanese" is a great starter book. Anki is also a great tool for flashcard management, check it out.
Happy Super-belated Eric! I had nooo idea you guys were still in Japan!? How's Tokyo in comparison to Kumagaya, or is that already in a vid I need to dig up lol?
I've never had sushi, at 55yr's I have never tried it. But I will... your video made me crave it ! Great vid...as always. Happy late B-day Eric. Aries here too.
We should do that! It's so early in the morning though. I will have to look into it for summer break!
I have seen something like that in Japan, but I don't remember if they have it exactly the same.
It's so easy to order more food than what you want when you first go to these types of places. But it's all so good!
Happy belated birthday!
We got new jobs so we moved closer to Tokyo. We will have a video about our new place soon.
Happy Birthday, and many, many more! Feel better quick so you can make more amazing videos!
I've been to the Genki Sushi in Hawaii and I loved it!
+Alaina Ruby Nice!
Yea, I think tea might have been wiser for us, especially as we needed to stay awake on a super busy train to get home.
Happy Birthday Eric!!!
Went to this place back in 2015 and it was still very good then. Sad to hear it has gone downhill.
Yea, in fact, it's closed now! haha. -E
@@kydeanderic Really? We hope to go back to Japan in a few years. I guess I'll need to find another good place like this (like it used to be).
Yea, this is fairly accurate about the hot springs. But I have been to places that didn't care, and I've also been to places that flat out denied entry. If your tattoo is coverable by a bandage you can just do that too.
I've never been to the gym.
After watching this, I realized there's one of these in Seattle! Now I really wanna check it out.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Yea, we are both teaching! We live in Saitama City now, just north of Tokyo.
We have not been, but we want to go. It's hard to get there so early in the morning!
So wish there was something like that near me! Can't wait to try it when I get there.
You guys should go to Sushiro for Eric’s next birthday. It’s another 100-yen sushi place but super high quality. I went to Sushiro all the time when I was living there in 2018 and I can guarantee it’s super yummy and gives 2013 Genki Sushi a run for its money!
haha we used to have one literally in the building we lived in.
@@kydeanderic Haha, you guys are so lucky! Where I lived, the nearest Sushiro was a 20 minute bus ride and the bus stopped at like 9:30 PM! xD
This looks amazing. Which shop in Tokyo to you reccomend?
Yea! It's awesome. And if you don't like one dish, it's not a huge deal so you get to try things with low risk!
We have been to the restaurant many times and have learned the Japanese for the foods that we like. We also know what the fish/meats look like that we like. There is an English option at this restaurant, but we don't use it anymore.
Hi! I'm thinking of going to genii sushi today, and. I was wondering what time did you guys go? If I go around 5:00pm do you think that there will be a long line? Thanks!!
It's an ongoing project. We can read enough to get around, but if you gave us a book written for anyone 3rd grade or older we'd be lost. Turns out it's stunningly difficult to learn Japanese, big respect to anyone fluent in it if it's their second language.
To start learning to read Japanese step one is to pretend romaji does not exist and learn the kana tables, then go from there.
His face when he ate the maguro LOL
cant wait to visit Japan...great videos both of you
Greetings! Happy b day! I think I could sit there all night and push buttons just to see what comes! Looking forward to seeing more Tokyo. I'm sure you'll find much to show us, the don Quixote
Happy bday!!!!!!! I hope you had an amazing time :D
Happy Birthday!!! So I watched all of your Japan video series from a while ago, so what new city are you guys in now? Are you both teaching English now?
Your videos are something magical. Somewhat they make things look more attractive than this-is-just state for viewers here :-)
Good luck for the new life in Saitama !
I've been studying your videos as I'm planning a trip with my wife and kids, so many great uploads thank you!
Weird question I know, but is it seen as rude to wear a baseball cap in restaurants such as this? As I have an injury and wear a cap to hide it.
You'll be fine in places like this. Might be a bit odd if you go to an expensive place, and it might be expected of you to take if off if you enter the buildings of a shrine or temple, but you'll be find wearing it outside of the buildings on the shrine/temple grounds. -E
@@kydeanderic Thanks Eric, I thought that may be the case but as I have discovered there are many nuances so best not to assume! I hope to blend in as much as possible when I am there, although being a 6ft 2 white man I might struggle!
Btw, Kyde and Eric If you want some really first class sushi you should go to Tsukiji (cant remember the name of the place) at lunch time! They have the same lunch discounts as everywhere else but the quality is just amazing!
I had a plate of the chefs sushi (8 pieces) for about 3000 yen (lunch, otherwise its closer to 6000 yen) and i can say that it was the best sushi i have ever had! A bit pricey but sushi have never really been about affordable prices (until now).
Yea, we probably should make a video in one of the Don Quixote stores. I'm just not sure if the employees will get upset of us shooting in there, we try not to be rude.
Happy birthday Eric.
(altough I'm 2 days too late)
Some dishes looked real tasty.
Is there a time limit for how long you can sit and eat?
Because it's a bussy place.
I am looking at moving to Yokota from the states shortly, but know minimal Japanese... Do you have an recommendations regarding how to learn enough Japanese to get before I arrive (bathroom, kitchen) type stuff?
awesome place!! i wanna try that pepper ebi with the cheese. looked yummy. maguro looked so good! that one pork thing got me drooling!! Happy Belated Birthday!!
went there a few hours ago, love it, thanks for the video!
When the food first arrived I thought 'Oh my god...is that it?' but then the other courses arrived and it seemed quite a lot of food. The presentation is so pretty and so tiny....except the egg thing, what did you compare it too again? Vag-what? I love the screen ordering and the little trays on wheels. Have you ever sent a cute little gift back on one of the trays?
how do you know to order this in the screen computer even they never put any English word???do you understand Japanese language??? just ask you,,thnks for sharing,,
This brings back good memories!
That was an interesting episode. But gawd, those o-zushi pieces are so big I'm not sure if I could finish five plates at this place! o_O
We might just be a little disgusting and disturbing! Glad you are enjoying all our videos!
These guys are awesome. Ty for sharing and showing all the things you guys do and the places you go. I can't believe you don't have more subscribers. Btw Kyde you are a lucky lady and same for you Eric you are a lucky guy. I can't say enough nice things without sounding like kiss butt. You guys keep rockin your thing and put this great vids out.
+John Tate Haha, thanks so much! So kind of you! You are right, she is pretty lucky! hahahaha. -Eric
Genki Sushi is pretty good, I've never been to this one though - I usually go to the ones in either Kawasaki or Sagami Ono. ^_-
Some of them are better than others. To be honest the Shibuya location has been going downhill. -Eric
Thank you for making the video. In Portugal, drinking the equivalent of sake before going to bed is almost a folk remedy for a cold. But having the choice of green tea, the tea must be a better option. I hope you guys get better :)
Hi, how do you pay for sushi after eating them? Do you proceed to the counter? Or at the tray also?
HIRO MIZUHASHI You just pay at the register near the door. The computer keeps track of what you ordered in this specific restaurant. Other places the staff will just count the plates. -Eric
Kyde and Eric cool, thanks! Now I'm hungry lol
I don't remember there's cucumber in California roll here in Canada, I guess there's a difference between US and Canada.
I'm from California and it does have cucumber but not lettuce or egg.
I don''t suppose someone could tell me the name of the intro song?
Yes! California rolls, egg items (those are so good) and some other things. Do you like cooked fish at all?
i wish you guys did a meet and greet cuz i would love to meet you guys!
This is my first video of yours that I have watched. May I ask what your jobs are in Japan?
Never sent a gift back. It would be cute, but at the same time these people are working hard. This place is always packed, so it might just cause more annoyance than fun. And I think you know what that egg looked like!
We love it here! Thank you so much!
Have a good sushi time.Would you go to Tsukiji? Highly highly recommend.
Sushi is the best way to celebrate anything!
Wow, that's quite a hike. Might be easier to come to Tokyo!
Hell no! It's a 10 hour flight! I haven't been overseas yet and I'm only 26 but I have enough time. I'm planning a trip in a year or two to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur! I'm all good today, I went to my first ever sushi train restaurant called Rokujuni which is in a Westfield shopping mall near me. Had 7 plates and two bottles of Ramune to myself! I have allergies to spices so I was asking the nice waitresses what things were. Also had my first red bean black sesame rice ball too, weird texture!
Happy Birthday! Excellent video as usual! B of U can really really eat a lot, it seems! I get full just watching you eat! Sweet eggs? Totally curious about that, I mean how can that be good, sweet and eggs don't go together to me, yet I believe you. Wonder how it is spiced flavored, I think eggs have a very mild flavor, and are generic, without adding something to them? How is that spelled, the egg dish want to look up the recipe, very curious to me! ;D
Happy Bday! They actually have two Genki sushi places in California. One in Santa Ana and one in Chino. Even though one is close by, I haven't gone there yet. Putting the soy sauce on the fish is the correct way of eating sushi, but it's easier just to dip the rice side, so the fish doesn't flop around. I'm going to have to try your way, so the rice doesn't fall apart.
106 yen that's a good price damn
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR ERIC!!!
I wish there was something like that near chicago.
I love you guys, thank you for the videos!!! :) xox
I cannot find this place on Google Maps......I am trying to find places to visit for a trip next July.
Here you go: goo.gl/K11cr8
Happy Healthy Birthday Eric! Take care and get well soon guys. Ttfn.
