How to make a terracotta hanging basket using a steel cooking bowl DIY

- In this RUclips video, I showcase the process of creating an indoor terracotta hanging basket using an old steel cooking bowl and household items. With the addition of woodubend mouldings, I transform the bowl into a decorative basket. The construction is clever and can be replicated on different types of containers like plastic, metal, or wood. I demonstrate a paint technique that gives the basket an aged patina, resembling a French or Italian terracotta pot. Join me in this process and discover how to create a unique item for your bathroom space.

For me you do more than refurbish furniture and make amazing terracotta pots. You are like a therapist to me. I suffer from depression at times and watching your videos not only teaches me what to do with my next piece of furniture, but it helps me get through those tough days as well.❤️ Thank you
Thank you so much for your lovely message and I feel absolute honoured that my videos help you, but I have to say they have also helped me through some very difficult times just being creative allows me to be a little bit more free. I completely know that feeling sending you much love and positivity xxx

Thank you so much and I’m so pleased it’s inspired you to go away and get creative that just makes my heart sing😊❤️
Absolutely GORGEOUS! Both pieces! But I'm in awe of the faux terracotta and how real it looks! I've never seen a painted terracotta finish that I could not tell the difference... The hanging pot of succulents and the mirror finish really were the icing on the cake to this bathroom makeover. Brilliant! 💕
Oh thank you very much I think it has to be one of my new favourite painted patina
The pot came out AMAZINGLY!!!
It's wonderful to repurpose unloved items into masterpieces.
I think it’s been one of my favourite projects in a long while so simple but effective
I'm just knocked over, I watch a lot of different art, re-do and re-furbish make overs. You are such a talent, so imaginative, really inspiring. So many are kitschy, yours is very beautiful and old world. Lovely video, thank you!
✌💜🇨🇦
I missed the first demo of this but I did see the bathroom renovation. The final effects are stunning and I am going to steal some of your ideas. Thank you for sharing and enjoy your trip.

OMG. I've had a very similar bowl for years. It's like an old friend and I couldn't imagine not having it in my kitchen so loving your planter so much will have to thrift another. Beautiful creation.
Just stunning. Now I have to make me some pots. And I know just where to put them. Thanks for the tutorial.

Thanks this was fun to watch. So creative! Love from Iowa, USA
Thank you so so much
That was just fascinating to watch! I haven’t seen these before now. But now I want one! LOL. It was really amazing to watch you put such an ordinary kitchen mixing bowl with parts from other cast offs and hardware and make this masterpiece. Also, may I just mention your color mixing skills are amazing. I would never have thought to use those 3 colors to get that beautiful color. You are truly an artist. I’m overly impressed with this one. Thanks so much for sharing. I am sure this will be replayed for me again. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you, thank you thank you. Your comment is really appreciated and I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and you may watch it again. Wishing you all the very best for your future projects 😊😊😊

Delicious Creative Inspirations ! ✨
Wow, this is fabulous! I guess I have another project to do!!
Enjoy the process 😊😊
Beautiful! I love it so much! My favorite piece I have seen you do! I would love that! My kids got me a “record player” for my birthday a year or so ago. I love it so much! “ retro” When I was little my grandma had a huge phonograph record player! I loved it so much! It was as big as a jukebox and I was hoping to have it one day. That didn’t happen, but I am always looking for one in second hand stores. I have never restored any furniture, but I sure do love what you did here! Leaves me with some hope 🤞 Thank you so much!
What a beautiful masterpiece. It is so unique!. I would put fruit or faux plants in it. NIce.!
Oh yes, fruit would look great
Wowww, positively stunning planter! Thank you for taking us through the entire process with you. I just looooove the color wash over the terra cotta. Beautiful! The mirror is lovely as well. Amazing work!!
Hey, thank you for your lovely message 😊❤️🙏
You're so creative ❤ that's beautiful ❤
You never fail to amaze me. You are very creative and have such vision. I am always inspired. Thanks Jonathan.
Wow 🤩 absolutely stunning! Totally believable that the hanging basket is made of clay, you are so talented. Thank you for sharing 👍🏻
absolutely brilliant
Absolutely amazing ❤️!
WONDERFUL 🎉
THAT IS GORGEOUS!!!!!! Amazing!!!
Oh thank you very much 😀😀😀
Ingenious! Love it❤❤
Gorgeous.
A stunning project Johnathan and as always the attention to detail is sublime
Thank you so so much ❤️🙏
Outstanding!
Ur a very talented young man! It’s beautiful!!
Jonathon the basket and mirror were the perfect finishing touches for this outstanding bathroom makeover! I love all of your videos but it was wonderful seeing you do smaller projects 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you very much I’ll be sure to bring some small projects to the channel as well as some more furniture projects
That's such a lovely idea and so well done. I have a good quality plastic hanging planter that I could try this with in my garden. I think three of them in varying sizes and heights would be a stunning display - with solar lights maybe. I've been contemplating a modern white and gold hanging planter for my bathroom but while I'll keep to white with gold accents, you inspired me to be more creative and pay more attention to the details. Maybe my chains will be gold with antique white and a turquoise macrame accent...Thanks for a great video. Loved the mirror treatment too, looks great. Subscribed!
absolutely stunning! thank you for sharing this project with us!
Really great, love watching you work. ❤
Thank you so so much I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it 😊❤️🙏
Great video. I use the number 5 on most of my personal crafts. It's a great number 🤩 thanks for sharing your work 🙏
Heavenly. You're quite talented. I'd like very much to see more materials links listed in the description. Maybe I just missed it? I'm in the Yucatan, and might not have access to the same items but at least it'll give me a start on how or what to look for. DIY is the only way I could have something like that here! I spent a formative portion of my youth in Europe and really like the classic craftsmanship. Thanks for inspiring me to think it's possible!
Another great premiere. Thank You !💜
Stunning ❤❤ love both projects xx
Thank you so much❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the inspiration. I imagine you could do the same with clay or resin molds rather than the woodubends. Much less expensive.
I am so very inspired. Thank you.
I am so super pleased about that 😊😊😊
Looks fantastic well done
Thank you😊😊
WOW😍J' adore très jolie!!
I think the plants don’t get enough light up there. It looks very nice … but 💚😏
I ABSOLUTELY loved this project! Please , PLEASE do more.
Thank you very much, and of course, I’ll be sure to find some smaller projects and of course some furniture projects
Stunning, well worth all the work!
looks fabulous darling ,so clever
Very beautiful and creative way to enjoy your favorite plants 🪴
Thank you very much 😊❤️
Amazing!! You are so talented 🤩❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Jonathan, can you use soda bicarb/ baking soda instead of salt wash. It looks fabulous!! Not sure I could copy it or even make my own version but may try. Thank you for sharing all your skills with us. We are honoured that you run a RUclips page where you teach us how to do something. I know you said today was not a tutorial, but it was fantastic. The mirror is stunning. Thank you!
Ps. I gather if there are drips from the tube leading to the outside it will drip into the bath?
Yes I see a lot of people using baking soda but you would need quite a lot. I would probably opt for builders sand. It will add a really nice texture 😊😊😊
Clever and resourceful.
Really beautiful !❤❤❤
Really beautiful❤
Thank you very much
Perfect transformation. Looks like terracotta 🤗beautiful hanging basket .
Thank you very much
Wow amazing!!!! ❤❤❤
Very kind 😊😊😊
WOW! Recently I have been thinking about how to create something similar to some hanging terracotta pots that I saw in Spain a couple of years ago. I never thought of "wood u bend" I thought more of IOD Moulds. Well, great minds and all of that. Thank you for a wonderful, just in time tutorial.
Well, I think the moulds would be a great shout. Anyway, both ways are definitely going to have a great outcome give it ago 😊😊😊
OhMyGoodness❤❤❤ looks Amazing!! I’ll have to watch the whole video again to see what I missed on live chat!! Thank you so much for garden inspiration!!!❤
Absolutely all my pleasure thank you for joining the premier this evening. Enjoy watching again.xx
Просто великолепно!😍
Look wonderful you are very creative
Beautiful!!!!
Both items are stunning! Very clever! From Texas!😊
Very good ideas but i think maybe the chain should have been attached inside the bowl?
I think I’d actually agree with you. It was only after I finished the project and started editing. I realised the originals are hung from the inside. Maybe next time around I’ll do it the other way 🥴😊😊😊
Wow! What a fun project; I'm going to have to try making a faux terracotta planter too. Thanks for sharing this! 💯
Wishing you all the best for your project😊❤️🙏
Absolutely love it!!!
awesome ,love the plant choices too . Amazing job on the entire makeover
Thank you very very much
Both projects turned out wonderfully! Love the hanging basket! Thanks for sharing!

Oh wow, thank you. That is very very kind sending much love
Your attention to detail is admirable ! Makes all the difference.....Looks great...😮
Thank you very kindly
Wooow...this is beautiful...love it...
I LOVE this!
Hello from Ottawa Canada
Howdy from Texas Y'all! Love this Jonathon! I really like the old white color wash, I would like a "mossy" look added, what paint color would you use for this? I really appreciate the inspiration 🥰
That’s a great question I would probably go back to furl with a smaller amount of paprika Read, then I mixed with the basecoat you’ll find. If you keep it to the greener side, it will really turn out like a moss colour give it a try.
I'm OBSESSED with this project! Bravo!!!🎉
Oh thank you very much and thank you for being there on the Premier. Much appreciated.
@@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove pleasure, dear 💯😘
I love love what you did with the bowl and the mirror. I love to upcycle things into something useful as you are a mentor to me. Thanks 😊😊😊😊😊
You are too kind I really appreciate the wonderful comment. Keep up the great work 😊
Amazing work I love it
OMG 😮 it’s absolutely stunning! Thank you for an other great tutorial!
Always my pleasure 😊😊
Absolutely stunning❤ Marc you are such a talented gifted artist and teacher with such a calming personality making your videos a pleasure to watch Thank you!
Oh that really makes my heart sing thank you very much for watching and taking the time to message😊❤️🙏
Amazing 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️
TO JE TAKOVÁ KRÁSA, MILUJI TO♥.....THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL I LOVE IT🤩
Love both of them! I am curious how much a real Terra cotta planter like that would be, and if it’s worth it to make something like what you made? My guess is they are costly or else you wouldn’t have made your look alike. Yours is gorgeous, you can’t tell it’s not real! The foils look like they go on like a transfer? Such a beautiful effect! ❤❤❤❤❤
Yes that’s a great question you’re looking at somewhere around £250 to 300 on Etsy. See if you can search to check I just put French terracotta hanging basket and it should bring one or two up
@@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove I had to Google it and the real Terra cotta Tuscan planters that look like that are way up in the hundreds of dollars and more! I didn’t know. So yes, it is definitely worth it to make a look alike! Can you imagine if you accidentally broke a $1200.00 planter 😵
@@Jendarhan64 definitely stick with the lookalike or I could keep on making them out of cooking bowls and sell them as fake. Nobody would ever know I could become a millionaire 😆😆😆
@@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove Well you could certainly sell them for less than the real thing and still make a nice profit - a getaway for a trip to a warm, tropical place! Hm 🤔 at any rate, you can dream about it whilst you’re in the loo 😂
Excellent
😢Its sad for me to see the “how to” of beautiful craft and know I will not be able to work with tools used, not even make holes. BUT I 🎉celebrate the many skills you have and showed during bathroom and these episode. These new teachings you do now are far away from furniture chalk painting and for me it was an unexpected surprise. I imagine your home is full of hand made details by you. I congratulate you in your many skills.
Beauttiful
¡Espectacular!!!
❤
Love it!!!❤
Cool
