Dude please do the entire series. I need to see you give names to all the mutants you come across. "Knuckle-knife" is gold.
😂👍
😆👍
I agree
"Dude" .... I just lost it! :D
Yes, i was just thinking we need Jen to come up with the cheesiest superhero names for all of Marvel and DC. 😅😂
For the record, the actor playing Toad is named Ray Park. When he did the nifty spin of the metal bar out of the elevator in the Statue of Liberty he looked more like the much cooler role you've seen him as: Darth Maul from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
This was probably my favorite of the X movies. I really liked the Wolverine-Rogue dynamic as the unwilling mentor-willing student pairing. I also really liked Mystique as the ultimate villain wild card. Magneto and Professor X were very well done as friends with diametrically opposed views on the survival of their kind who must be on opposite sides of the battle, and seeing Ian McKellan as the villain in this movie then seeing him a few years later as the hero Gandalf was kinda strange. But he's always Gandalf to me now. 🙂
I loved the X-Men and New Mutants comics when I was a teen in the early to mid 80s, so I was psyched for this movie, and in spite of the changes from the originals, I enjoyed the movie a lot and still do.
@@thatpatrickguy3446 Sir Ian and Sir Patrick really nailed their roles.
Ohh I thought I recognised him.
@@thatpatrickguy3446 Yh they squandered Rogue so badly in the subsequent films.
Bringing her in without taking her character to that ultimate conclusion of badassery is the worst decision Bryan Singer ever made.
Very long winded way to say, "The actor that played Toad, Ray Park, he also played Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode 1.
"Who's this baldy?" 😳 That's Patrick Stewart, the famed Shakespearean actor who for decades has portrayed arguably the most beloved of Star Trek's leaders, Captain Jean-Luc Picard! (Of course, here he's Professor Charles Xavier, or "Professor X" for short.)
FYI: A wolverine isn't a wolf; it's more closely related to weasels, badgers, otters, and ferrets. It's known for its ferocity and for having strength that's out of proportion to its size.
This is a distinction/animal that I think a LOT of us actually discovered through discovering the character. At least those of us not from Canada or US states that border it.
Yup, they're called Mustelids...and they also include skunks! *teehee
Funny thing is that in my language (am from europe) in the movies they translated wolverine as wolf. i guess cause none of us really knows what a wolverine is lmao
@@Csaba__ Yeah, it's like a raccoon or badger, but heavier and much more broad-framed.-- as opposed to a wolf, which is often quite narrow in build (and much taller). The character Logan in the comics was depicted as a short, broad hairy man with a keen sense of smell. Jackman is neither especially short, nor broad, but I think he managed to pull it off well, regardless.
Wolverines are even more closely related to BEARS than they are to wolves! 🐻🐻❄
Wolverines and Wolves are different animals. But don't feel bad. Even Hugh Jackman made the same mistake. He was on set talking about how he studied wolf mannerisms for the role. He had to be taken aside and given a crash course.
He did not. That is so made up. On set? That is funny!
He has a healing factor and extraordinary sense of smell. That is why he can sense Mystique.
@@genghisgalahad8465yeah he said it in an interview it's really funny to watch
The child who lost his mother in the nazi camp was Magneto. That's why he had a tattoo ID on his forearm.
And it's why he can be such a sympathetic villain -- as a Jew that survived the Nazis, he's seen the evil of men when it comes to badly treating people who are 'other'. #magnetowasright
X MEN 3

As a life-long x-men fan I took for granted that everyone knew who they were, it was fun to see someone discover these characters for the first time
[Cyclops doesn't know if Logan's an imposter]
Wolverine: Hey! It's me.
Cyclops: Prove it!
Wolverine: You're a dick.
Cyclops: Okay.
That, and Wolvie flipping Scott off with his claw, are some of the best comedic exchanges in the movie.
Joss Whedon is an asshole, but he is such a good writer.
Jen: "Who's this baldy?" The actor Patrick Stewart. Also plays a central role on Star Trek the Next Generation. In his early days on Star Trek he helped to make "bald" cool.
Don't forget he played Gurney Halick (spelling?) In original DUNE movie, and 1 of The Knights of the Round Table in EXCALIBUR before TNG.
You know I just remembered Famke and Sir Patrick worked together before in TNG, extra points for naming the episode without Googling it.

For my money, this is the 1st modern super-hero film, starting off the millennium with a bang.
So you probably already know this but the Fox X-Men films are not connected to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) the universe in which films like Avengers, Black Panther, Tom Holland Spider-Man take place. In the 90s Marvel were facing bankruptcy so in hopes of making money they sold a bunch of their movie rights (Marvel didn’t have a film studio at the time anyways) to different buyers. One of these rights being The X-Men who were bought by 20th Fox, 20th century already had experience working on Marvel brands as they created the amazing 90s X-Men cartoon along with the 90s Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, and Fantastic Four shows which all took place within the same shared universe, 90s Spider-Man even had an episode where he went to Xaviers School running into the X-Men. Side note Sony bought the rights to Spider-Man which is why the Sony Logo will show up in any Spider-Man film even the MCU Spider-Man films as Marvel made a deal with Sony so they could use the character.
Marvel with Iron Man 1 decided to create a series of films that all took place within the same universe a shared world and thus the MCU was born. But there was a problem Marvel did not own the movie rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four, or Spider-Man so these had to be excluded from their plan but for the main time they focused there attention on The Avengers meanwhile Fox started pumping out X-Men films set in there own universe. Fox and Marvel could’ve connected both franchises (MCU & Fox X-Men) together in the early days of the MCU by simply including a few Easter eggs in both franchises hinting at the X-Men and Avengers but unfortunately Fox turned them down.
In the comics the X-Men, Avengers along with other Marvel characters like Spider-Man all co exist together and have met a bunch of times in comics, cartoons, and video games with a few X-Men even becoming Avengers for example Wolverine. But most of the time each team deals with they’re own respective goals mostly relating to mutants so they’re usually doing there own thing in the background same goes with other Marvel teams usually only meeting for big crossover event. Thankfully Marvel now own the rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four now so anything can happen they’re free to use anything Mutant related in the MCU now.
Yes, you should watch the rest of the X-Men franchise.
26:46 Mark! "Dance Karate"! Haha! Actress Yvonne Craig told us that she was a Ballet student and that the stuntmen and fight choreographers for "Batman" were sure to make it look like her dance moves were an effect-looking martial arts form! 😮😊
Compare and contrast to actress Nichelle Nichols! One of her brothers was a Black Belt in Karate, and it was he that helped her looked convincing in "Star Trek" whenever "Uhura" had to fight!
One of the blondes in "Star Trek" also had her dance moves used to look like she knew how to fight! She kicked just like "Batgirl"! 😅
One of the Olympians was cast in the movie "Gymkata" in which his Gymnastics were converted into a new martial art as per the title! 😎
Every time you said "knuckle knives" it made me smile. You're becoming one of my favorite reactors.
Thanks Bill! I'm having so much fun ☺️

31:23 Mark! Doctor Evil: "He didn't go through four to eight years of college to be called 'Mister X'!" 🙄 😅
I love all the X-Men movies, but this one is especially great because it had my two favorite X-Men... Rogue and Wolverine. This movie started a trend that superhero movies could be more than just campy comic book movies. Although still a little campy itself, it was very gritty and real at the same time, which was unusual for this type of movie at the time.
I just read the funniest story about Hugh Jackman preparing for this role. He also thought a wolverine was a wolf (it isn't, it's tougher and meaner) and he did weeks of research on wolf behavior, reading and watching documentaries, and Bryan Singer was mystified by his weird wolf interpretation of the character. He eventually nailed the wolverine characteristics, I think.
33:39 Mark! 😂 The "metal guy" is known as "Colossus"! You saw him in the movie "Deadpool"! 😊
To understand X-Men '00, you have to understand the Marvel Curse: Even though X-Men Animated '92 was the best bit of Marvel on TV, the 80's and 90's had given us Howard the Duck, the Golan/Globus Captain America, and Dolph Lundgren as The Punisher.
There had never been a comic-accurate Marvel movie resembling "good", except for Wesley Snipes' out-of-context Blade, and sort-of counting Men in Black for coming from a Marvel side-label comic.
You forgot the movie *Adventures In Babysitting* (1987) with Vincent d'Onofrio as Thor! ;P
Love you’re nickname for Wolverine lol funny enough there’s an alternate reality where Logan is called MR. MURDERHANDS. He appeared in a 2015 Spider-Gwen comic which takes place on Earth-65 a universe where Gwen, Peter Parker’s first comic girlfriend was bitten by the radioactive Spider instead of him. This reality also has other interesting changes as well along with cool takes on Marvel characters. In the Spiderverse comic where a bunch of Spider people from different universes came together to team up including the main Earth-616 Spider-Man (Main universe) Spider-Gwen met Earth-616 Wolverine and from this point on set revered to him as Wolverine as she found the name to be so much better than her Logan’s nickname.
"X" is often used for "Unknown." Such as in the term "X-ray." X-rays were discovered as a result of photographic plates being exposed inside a sealed, light tight envelope after a researcher placed uranium samples on the envelope.
He called them "X-rays" because they were clearly a kind of light that can get through some things (like paper or even wood) but can't be seen with the eye. He had no idea what these rays were so he called them "X-rays" assuming they would be named something more appropriate later on. But the name stuck.
It was the reason they were called X-Men, meaning both men and women are X-Men, too bad the woke idiots out there still don't get it and ask them to be alled X-women...but I digress.
Very pertinent comment 👍
Or Xavier or the X-gene that causes the mutations.
@@victorfatalys1076 There is a point to far when it comes to political correctness.
For example, as an amputee I *DISPISE* the term "differently abled."
It implies there is something shameful to being called "disabled." There isn't. It is a term that describes a person who has limited abilities. It is an accurate description for a disabled person. Perhaps those limits maybe be major or minor, but they are there.
Or "Generation X". They didn't know what to call us, so we got stuck with that one and it started a trend
According to Stan Lee, he originally wanted to call them "The Mutants," but his boss, Martin Goodman, didn't think most comic book readers would know what a mutant was. So Stan renamed them "The X-Men" because they had eXtra powers.
This movie will always be one of my favorites. My uncle was working at the theater when this movie came out, and he knew I loved the X-Men, so he took me to the midnight screening two days before it was released. I thought I was the coolest kid in town lol!
Ahhh Jen. Knuckle knives. You got me for sure. I thought would call Wolverine Sideburns. Ha
Although the character was later played by Jennifer Lawrence, the best Mystic has always been Rebecca Romjin.
Eric/Magneto was the boy in the concentration camp. Ian McKellen, who plays Magneto, also played Gandalf in Lord of the Rings among his many credits.
25:27 Mark! 😁 The "blue guy" isn't the shapeshifter! The blue gal is, though! There are two blue guys, by the way. "Beast" & "Nightcrawler"! 😊
The guy you thought was dead, is. Look again and you'll see, when the reporter bumped into him/her, it hurt her wound and his eyes turned yellow.
14:09 "I think... they might fall in love, though."
This romantic triangle between Cyclops, Jean Grey and Wolverine is pervasive. It's present in _every_ iteration of the _X-Men_ I've seen, although, admittedly, I've only seen a few.
Patrick Stewart will always be Captain Picard to me! 🖖
Same, I always put on TNG when its on TV. 🖖🙂
One thing to keep in mind about Wolverine that is underrated is his incredibly KEEN SENSE OF SMELL AND HEARING (06:42) (27:17) among his other enhancements
"His name should be Knuckle Knives. "
I nearly spat my drink out.
Your names for the mutants are great. 🤣 Baldy. Knuckle Knives. Jelly-man! Dun dun dun! 🤣
27:06 Storm: "Do you know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning?"

Storm: "The same thing that happens to everything else."
Me: "😟Um... but... where's the quip? You set that up like it was gonna be a quip. You gave me a sense of anticipation, Storm. Where's the quip?"
Wolverines are to Wolves what Caterpillars are to Cats! :P
Wolverines are wolverines: the North American version of the honey badgers, except it hunts brown bears instead of cobra snakes just because they can!
A Wolverine is a vicious little animal with sharp claws and teeth. A simplified explanation of it

2:34 Mark! Jen, hi there! 😎❤
Unless I'm mistaken, she's the one that you see get "forked by a tree" in one of the "James Bond OO7" movies! 😮
"Who's this baldy?"
Just an iconic captain of a certain well-known starship. Engage!😊
Fun fact: the original script of Captain America: The First Avenger included a wolverine and young magneto cameos but Fox wouldn't allow it.
Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen with their performances were like seeing Shakespeare on screen
Knuckle Knives is off the chain in X2! You're gonna have a blast! Can't wait till you get to it! Not a huge fan of X3 but the newer ones First Class and Days of Future Past are also really good! 👌
😂👍 Awesome!! I'm so excited!
Unfortunately, Bryan Singer is off the chain in X2, too, and the metaphorical LGBT-pride "teases" in the first movie go full-on Tim Burton in the second one...
@@ericjanssen394 have you tried... not being a bigot?
4:13 Fun fact, Hugh Jackman was studying wolves for his role until the director told him that wolverine is different kind of animal:p And his role was not that connected to the animal anyway:p
😊 .Wow ok I didn't know that. Aww poor hugh. 👍
This is the film that proved superheros can be depicted seriously and the stories reflect our real world struggles.
"Is he a wolf?"
Wolves and wolverines are two completely different animals.
Also "knuckle knives" or "claws"?
And Mystique? Definitely not a blue guy...
@ Jen Murray "Knuckleknives" 🤣
I loved all your names for the characters.
😂👍
I live in Alberta, Canada. A wolverine is actually a small badger like animal that can actually kill a wolf or even a bear. They are unstoppable. I've only ever seen one one time, out on a hike in the rocky mountains.
That's why Wolverine can fight the Hulk
When Rogue absorbs a normie's energy or another mutant's power, it leaves the other person weakened for a time. That's why Magneto struggled after forcing her to absorb his power. He was only able to barely hold Logan back, rather than being in a coma, because of how powerful he is and the fact that he was in control when he gave her his power, so he was able to let go before he was completely drained. When Logan healed her, he wasn't able to let go fast enough, so he was put in a coma and it took time for his healing factor to recover. I hope you'll do the rest of the movies too. Heads up. The 3rd X-Men movie has an end credits scene that most people never see lol.
My wife and I got to meet the actor that played Sabertooth. His real name is Taylor Main and the guy playing Toad is Ray Park. You may know him as Darth Maul from Star Wars: Phantom Menace. Professor X is Patrick Stewart also known as Capt. Picard of Star Trek Next Generation. And Magneto is Ian McKellen or Gandalf from Lord of the Rings.
Every time you said “knives” I wanted to yell out “claws.” He’s Wolverine not Freddy Kruger. LOL.
Magneto was the kid in the Nazi camp…that’s why he destroyed a metal gate..
fun fact: in the comics, Magneto once ripped logan’s adamantium skeleton right out of his body.
I believe the "X" comes from the mathematical term representing the unknown.
Also the leader of the X-Men is Charles Xavier.
The X can be interpreted in many ways, but Stan Lee has said that he came up with the name because their mutations give them eXtra powers.
YES!!! Saw this in the theatre in 2000 (f*&% I'm old) and loved it!
Grew up on the comics and 90s cartoon and I never thought we'd get a serious X-Men movie, with a budget and real casting. It meant the world to a kid who ate alot of shit from being a comic nerd :)
I turned 50 in 2000 so I'm betting you're not that old.
The music in this is so underrated, brings back alot of memories 🥰😢
The mutant struggle in the comics was always a metaphor for the Civil Rights movement with Magneto representing Malcolm X willing to get their rights "by any means necessary" and Xavier representing Martin Luther King with having a dream that all people would be "judged on the content of their character" instead that plays out in the movies also
I really loved that "moment of realization" when you figured out that it was Mystique.
She got me good!!
3:10 Mark! Oh wow! So this is from before you began watching "Star Trek: The Next Generation"! 😮
Storm is actually very physically strong. In the comics a group of mutants from underground, the Morlocks kidnap one of the X-men to be their leader’s mate, Callisto. Storm has to lead the X-men to the Morlocks lair to rescue the their kidnapped teammate. Storm has to overcome her claustrophobia to defeat the Morlock leader. She challenges the leader to a fight using staffs and no mutant powers. Storm defeats Callisto and offers the Morlocks sanctuary at Xavier’s Mansion but they refuse. They prefer their underground home until mutants are accepted by normal humans. Callisto is left as leader but loses the respect of her followers.
Love these picks Jen! X Men has some of the most interesting characters in the MCU. X Men First Class is my favorite. Because it deals with the original involvement of mutants actual existence, and working with the government.
X-men aren't in the MCU. Not yet at least.
You should definitely watch X2 X-Men United. It's one of those rare times when the second movie is better than the first!!!
Basic run down of powers for core characters, no spoilers. There is more detail but I won't go into it.
Wolverine: advanced healing, heightened level of senses like an animal, encased in adamantium (indestructible metal), originally had bone claws, born in the year 1832 in Canada.
Professor X: read minds, mental-manipulation.
Magneto: controls metal
Jean Grey: telekinesis
Cyclopes: Absorbs solar energy and converts to optic blasts. A head injury rendered him the inability to control, hence the eyewear.
Storm: controls the weather
Rogue: can absorb any mutants powers temporarily
Mystique: Shapeshifter
I remember seeing this in the theater when it came out, and all I had to go off of was the 90’s cartoon. Tonally it occupies this space between camp and dark. Frankly, the X-Men franchise thrived when comic book movies were made for adult and kids alike.
Most people miss Jean Grey's reaction when the machine is destroyed at the Statue of Liberty.
Something happened there, she looks like she just took a gut punch.
Wolverines and wolves are different animals. I only ever heard of the character when I was a kid, so I assumed it was a play on wolves 😂
You didn’t catch the numbers on Magneto’s wrist?
Besides needing a healing factor to survive it, another issue with adamantium bonding is that it isn’t compatible with the body, it’s poisonous. Like you wouldn’t want to make a replacement hip out of it. In the comics this ends up hindering his healing factor since it’s fighting off the poisonous effect 24/7. Without it, he could heal so fast it’s pretty much instantaneous
Scott would be able to control his optic blasts (off and on) if he hadn’t suffered a head injury as a kid. That’s the case in the comics at least
Sabertooth actually has a healing factor too
so far as wolves/wolverines. I read somewhere that Huge Jackman was also confused. When first offered the part of a character called 'wolverine' he wasn't sure how to act so he ended up watching some films about wolves. And so you see his somewhat wolfish behavior in this.
I'm glad you're doing some of these, and X2 is good as well. After that it falls off a bit until Logan, which is my favorite of all the X-Men movies.
Knuckle Knives solo project lol
@Papa Xan X-Men First Class and X-Men Days of future Past the Rogue cut are epic
You forgot the best X Men movie ever: Days of Future Past.
@@steved1135 That was the best since it followed the MCU style of having a foundation of four movies to build up to it with the characters from the past and future having a decent character development that people could be invested in
Toad is played by Ray Park, who is a martial arts expert. Park also played Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode 1.
I still say this climax is the absolute best movie example of superhero teamwork.
Hey Jen, in my book Mystique is one of the best, she might even be my alternate low key MVP 2.0. She's not the strongest, so she uses gymnastics moves and deception to fight with those much more powerful and stronger than her. That's what takes Mystique to the next level as a Mutant. She is truly on e of my favorites.
@K2da_G - yeah, she is not the strongest one.
Cut her throat, without touching her skin, or her touching you - and she will bleed to death.
But definitely she is an interesting character, by using other ways to fight sometimes.
And she can apparently recover from being stabbed through the chest 3 times.
Lol "I kinda forgot that guy was there." So did the writers. They make Cyclops a borderline background character when he was the original second in command.
The establishment of “knuckle knives” is just an example of your awesomeness Jen 😄😆
😂👍
Okay, Knuckle Knives is one of the most hilariously awesome names I've ever heard!
😂👍
I know it's 10 months later: if you go by the comics x-men stands for eXtraordinary humans. Oh, and Wolverine is Canadian one of the few things FOX didn't change about the characters.
In the 60s the x-men (mutants in general) were a stand in for every socially excluded group (gays, poc, etc.)
“How powerful is she?” With Rouge it just depends on whose powers she borrows/takes.

JEN'S CONFUSION
JEN LAUGHS
"Wolverine. Is he a wolf, though?" 🤣
What you can't really pick up in the movie is Wolverine not only heals and has a metal skeleton with claws, but his senses are all super powered. He basically recognized Mystique (blue guy) by her smell.
29K Views + Mine! 🎉 2.5K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! 😊
Notes: Yes, "Mystique" is quite the villanous Supervillaness at first! But she eventually reforms (pun intended) when she gets played by a preteen or "tween" actress and then becomes Jennifer Lawrence!
To learn more about "Logan/Wolverine" you should watch his origin movie despite the disgruntled types who complain that the movies don't match the comic books! 😮😅
your nicknames for the X-Men are the funniest I have ever heard. now and forever wolverine will be knuckle knives.
Yes!!!! 🤗🤗🤗
Sabertooth and Wolverine have history and Rivalry in the comics. They both have the same powers but Sabertooth doesn’t get the metal on his claws until later in the comics.
That was a good reaction!
I thought you refered to Mystique as a he Mystique is a woman
played by Rebecca Romijn.
Thanks for the reaction
Take care!
The sequels vary in quality, some are not great but it's worth getting through them to reach the newer ones - "First Class" and "Days of Future Past" are *very* good, and "Logan" is an absolute masterpiece. I'll watch any and all reactions you post to all these movies, enthusiastically.
Xavier always gets knocked out or put out of comission, otherwise he would just end all battles inmediately by controlling peoples minds, he is one of the most powerful mutants in t he whole X-men universe.
In Canada it is illegal to leave somebody on the side of the road - especially in winter (kind of a death sentence). We have Good Samaritan laws. It is also an ingrained part of the Canadian psychic. So even though Logan is amnestic there still some Canadian deep down inside of him.

X-Men was introduced in the early 60s at the time of Civil Rights marches, etc. It was Stan Lee's way of showing young people that discrimination of others with differences (like mutations or skin colour) was bad. Stan (RIP, man) had a real social conscience and was not just a "scribbler of kids' comics". He was a true super-hero and sadly missed. As he would say - Excelsior!
Toad is played by the same actor, Ray Park, that played Darth Maul in Star Wars Ep 1 and the Headless Horseman in Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow. The X in X-men means two things. X for Xavier and X for Extraordinary
Please continue the saga of Knuckle-Knives and the rest of those mutants! Many of your questions are answered in the future films.
I always chuckle when thinking about Deadpool's obsession with Wolverine specifically ( he has others, like Spiderman) but it's because Logan is almost always in a bad mood by default with very little sense of humor, and Deadpool just feeds off that lol, it's almost like when a kid is kicking the back of your seat in an airplane and you tell them to stop, and then they just do it more lol. He knows every way to irritate Logan and just relishes it when he loses his shit haha. In Deadpool's mind it's just ball busting between friends, to Logan he's the most annoying person he's ever met.
A lot of youtube reactors seem to have fun with this series. Glad to see you jump on board.
A wolverine is basically an angry badger.
"Wolverine... Is he a wolf though?"
😄 Oh, Jen. Wolverine is named after the wolverine...
I don’t think they explain in this film but Cyclops’s Sunglasses and Visor are made from ruby quartz which refract his optic beams and keep them contained. In the comics he even has a pair of emergency ruby quartz contact lenses for if his glasses or visor is damaged
The romantic tension in this film is something that happened in the comic books. Wolverine is connected with a series of teenagers: Kitty Pryde, Rogue, Jubilee, intil it wasn't funny any more, and then suddenly there was this Wolvie, Jean, Cyclops thing.
It's like the way the New Mutants had relationships forming, and the only two girls in a 'relationship' were then kept apart in different comics for nearly thirty years.
Until the New Mutants movie and 'fans' were saying; 'they weren't lesbians in the book!' Amazing to this 63 year old fan.
Please get the phrase "Knuckle Knives" into Deadpool 3!
"He can Squish!" Codename = Captain Squish.
Badass Wolverine is Canadian 🍁of course. Jen You might not recognize the actor playing Toad but he was Darth Maul in Star wars ep1
His name is Raymond Park a Scottish actor and stuntman. To bad his character sucks in this.
"Who's this baldy?"
Look! It's heriditary, OK- oh, you meant in the movie
"OK, friend, so you wanna fight in a cage in my bar? What do they call you?"
"... Knuckle Knives"
"Ok, WOLVERINE it is"
26:10 Mutants have some base upgrades. Sometimes. Like slowed aging and above-average strength. So you can be a 60-year-old looking 90-year-old able to box and run.
"His name should be Knuckle Knives, though, really." 🤣
X-Men (2000) was what really put Marvel back on the movie map. Previous titles were schlock at worst and Cult favorites at best. Still my favorite X-men movie.
Another great reaction, Jen. The X-Men films are great, remember with the Marvel films there's usually an extra scene after the film's credits have finished, sometimes even two extra scenes. There are solo Wolverine films too, which are really good, and in one of them you meet Deadpool too.
This isn't a Marvel film though.
@@3DJapan They're Marvel characters but not part of the MCU which started with 'Iron Man' in 2008, Spider Man (the original film), Fantastic Four, X-Men came before the MCU was formed in 2007. I thought that Jen should know about Marvel (MCU) films moving forward otherwise she'd miss things.
From what I recall from collecting the original “the Uncanny X-Men” comics sometime late last century, the name “X-Men” referenced their “Extra” abilities or powers. The original group was lead by Professor X and included Phoenix (her real name is Jean Grey as in this movie), Beast (in later movies), Cyclops, and Ice Man (Bobby in this movie). Magneto has always been their main antagonist. Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Mystique and others come from the next generation which started around issue #100.
A Wolverine is a small, fierce animal, more like a honey badger if I recall correctly. Not related to a wolf. You seemed to get excited when they referenced Canada. I don’t know if that is where you live or come from. Wolverine is actually Canadian in the comics, I don’t know about the actual animal. Wolverine went on to be a part of a Canadian group called Alpha Flight I believe.
FYI: The next movie, X2, is good and I thought Days of Future Past was also excellent.
Cheers.
Very good summary. Two minor points: the original X-Men also included the Angel (Warren Worthington, a winged mutant); and Jean Grey's original code name was Marvel Girl. It was changed to Phoenix years later when she apparently died, but came back with increased powers.
