I just ordered my D10 today. It's my first martin in a lifetime and after watching your video I get more and more excited and can't wait to finally have it !
I just got a D-10e. Upgraded from a Fender T-Bucket and it a major difference. The $500 difference in price for the Martin is definitely worth the cost. It's SO nice to finally have a instrument that holds tone, and stays in tune much longer and has such a smooth sound and better action.
Thanks. Nice comparison. I'm considering buying the D10e because it's in my price range. I think, from your video, though, that the D12e actually sounds better (to my ear), but where I live, the difference in cost is that the D12 is 50% more over the cost of the D10. But I think the D10e is still a terrific sounding instrument.
Thanks for this review, these guitars are about as much as I could afford so it was great to get the side by side tone comparison for when I actually get round to getting one!!
As expected, they both sound very similar (same wood combination after all). That said, visually, the D-12 should wear better over the years since a gloss finish is slightly more forgiving to weather spikes than a satin finish. Though not by a large margin. For these guitars though, the D-10 E is an excellent value for how much you pay. The D-12E is good if you can afford it. It’ll definitely shine on stage or at church.
Its both nitro one is buffed on isn’t why would one age better than the other ? Maybe the gloss may reflect a bit more direct sunlight but they shouldn’t be diff at all still nitro on both
For everyone saying both are the exact same build and hence must sound same, that might not be true when you get into the finer details.. guitar manufacturers will grade all the wood they source.. the better/higher graded wood goes into the higher more expensive lineups.. so although both the guitars have a sitka spruce top, the quality of the wood between the two will definitely differ.. else a gloss finish and grover tuners cannot justify a $400 price increase for the D12..
Following your thoughts about this two guitars, now I'm a happy D10 owner. I can feel (listen) a tonal difference but not as much as 400 USD, LOL. I you can affort it, go for the D12, at any case you will be happy with ether, trust me.
Wow, the D-12E sounds noticebly better. Before this video, i thought the only difference was in the finish, not expeciting that they sound so different despite having the same wood & build. Great video as always!
@@palisicky ya but I think maybe the wood grading & build quality is a bit different, with d12 having slightly better craftsmanship & materials. Otherwise the price markup just for a poly, not nitro, gloss finish doesnt make much sense...
@@hungtruong4159 its exactly the same wood same build the price diff is for the open gear tuners and the nitro finish thats why the d12 d13 are same price its the gloss it is more labour intensive thus more $$$
I'd buy a 350. Yahama before the D12 but I did buy the D10e satin sapale finish after I strummed it once while it was hanging on the wall at GC. Open even sounds nice. The D10e improved my picking and finger strength and honestly I was happy with it that I gave it away for free to a young actor.
I was just asking you about this two guitars, and d12e sounds much much better😊 u can really tel the difference between the two, the d12 sounds much more rich and sweeter than the d10👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 great shoot out👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

@@TheGuitarSpaSingapore so I thought. Any others I can add to this progression, that are built in similiar way? I would live to have such backing track
@@TheGuitarSpaSingapore Thanks! Will look into this, sounds really nice, I played along you and it was awesome! Also, regarding guitar..not sure what to say, both sound awesome, not sure if D12 justifies that much of a price spike :/ then I was thinking, maybe I should save up for D18, but it doesn't have electronics
D12E has brighter highs D10E has a warmer sound D10E has a lovely EQ balance to my ears D12E probably cuts through a mix better with other instruments Just my opinion Great review!
I think they're asking so much more for the 12 because it resembles the d-28. The 10 looks more like an x series. With studio headphones I can barely hear a difference, but it's hard to judge without playing them both.
@@palisicky thank you, I always thought you were just paying for the appearance. I spent a little more and bought an american carpathian spruce top solid blackwood back and sides on sale for not too much more than the 12.. I'm loving it!

How do you like the neck? Heavy to you?
My D-12e gets here on Monday! So excited! Thanks for the informative comparison, was going between the two

Love the D11 the best and I love that satin finish. I have the same guitar and it just gets better and better all the time.

I would imagine what you are listening to this video with, iPhone vs PC/MAC with good speakers, might also affect the sound.

thats the beauty of guitars..each piece is different like a person's character..

Well done bro
I just got one two days ago. Love the tone but the neck weighs a ton. Trying to decide if I should keep it or get a D16.
Thanks for comparison video. Both lovely, what a great dream job 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Much appreciated comparison, thanks! :-)
I buy resently the D12e. IT is amazing
Congrats and I’m sure you love it

Could you share the chords and sequence you are playing in this video ? Please 🙏🏼 they are beautiful ❤️

The strings are obviously of different age.

Well your ears are garbage because it’s exactly the same guitar one is satin and one is buffed to a gloss hahah
Martin d10E vs Yamaha FG3 ? Which one do you choose ?
Yamaha
@@TheGuitarSpaSingapore why?? o:
d12e sounds richer. The gloss helps.
Its actually the opposite the satin makes the top vibrate better no way the same guitar sounds better because its been buffed to a shine
Really appreciate this but why do you adjust the mic position between demos? Doesn’t that affect the signal and invalidate the comparison?
Cox when I’m speaking I don’t Want the mic to hit and ding the guitar
Too many poisonous videos in a day Jarvis. XD. Appreciate these videos though.
Well its all good content the last week ...so I have some spare time only at nights so I thought why not since fans always wants new stuff...variety..
The big price difference between the 10 and 12 is no substantiated , is it basically the lacquer and machine heads. ??
