Does Street Fighter 6 happen INSIDE Gill!?

  • Street Fighter 6 has dropped enough details now to give us an inkling of its plot - but what happened to the plot they were building up to in Street Fighter V? In this video I cover the plots of Rose, G and Gill and how I think the major events concerning this trio already happened before street fighter 6 even begins, and that it might take place even further in the future than we first thought.

    You know I don't agree that the whole thing takes place inside Gill, but you absolutely have convinced me that Gill is more involved in the story than meets the eye. Same with Marisa. I'm also not 100% convinced JP is using Bison's soul. It's plausible but to me it's more likely that he's just an adept psycho power wielder a grade above Bison. None of this is meant to come off as contrarian or as an argument, rather I think that you brought a LOT of interesting things into the discussion that I'd definitely missed before and while my conclusions are different from yours I think there's definitely value in the stuff you brought up. Can't wait to see everything elaborated on, I'm very invested in the story :)

      We saw more Dev footage recently of some JP moves that weren't in the trailer, while I guess there's still some wiggle room for doubt, the spectre he uses to attack REALLY looks like bison. I recommend watching it even if just because he's a very interesting fighter with a style street fighter normally doesn't go for.

    This genuinely makes sense even in the business side of how capcom does stuff. They want to have a backup plan in case Street Fighter 6 fails (and I doubt that seeing the positive response it had gathered) so that they can go back to that same old cycle of World Warriors vs Bison/Shadowloo all over again and call it a reset. Let's not forget that Street Fighter 3 was at first considered a risky endeavor while fans loved it afterwards for what it is - at first people hated it. It took capcom 3 versions of Street Fighter 3 to make a masterpiece that is Third Strike. And now they want to try and please the fans again with radical changes but they still have a narrative back door this time around in case if it fails. But maybe I'm over imagining things.
    Thanks for the video man. Genuinely interesting analysis. Have a sub good sir xD

    Great video. I get the feeling that SF6 is trying to put a lot more effort into it's story so I'm excited to see how they pay off all these lose plot threads. I'm still not sure if the constructs JP makes are actually Bison's soul or just regular psycho energy. JP is probably a much more experienced and level headed user of it, so he might just be able to contort psycho power to whatever shapes he wants.

      It's a little hard to say if bison embodies it, so raw psycho power takes that form or if it's literally bison as a ghost or something, but ultimately the end effect is the same

      They say that psycho power isn't really bisons power but a code holders power ingrid's power to be more specific that bison somehow managed to FIND and take SOME of it. Soo apparently ingrid seals and stores a little bit of her power in certain locations why? idk but would think that either it's for later use if ingrid finds herself in situation where she really needs it or, just as an experiment to see how certain characters would use it if they had it or found it or, to have certain characters obtain it to grow her power for her and then once it's grown to her satisfaction she goes and just simply harvests her ripened power back from the characters.
      also the power that bison wields is not actually psycho power. psycho power is just a name that bison came up with to call it.
      this is a mix of information based on ingrids origins combined with ingrids street fighter alpha 3 max arcade story.🤔🤨🧐

    I was initially skeptical, since I didn't think that they'd have such a huge and cool concept being totally in the background when they're trying to sort of reintroduce the world like this. And then I saw those streamers on J.P.'s stage and just stared kind of slack jawed. Yeah, I'm not sure it's true but I want it to be true.
    I was initially a little disappointed, kind of hoping Gill's perfect world would be a bit more creative, but the more I thought about it the more sense it made. If he made a totally unique world with it's own physics from scratch he'd have to alter everyone's memories. But by keeping it the same and having all the changes occur subtly after the unification then no memory altering is needed. Also him intentionally making all the villains goofy is just really cute. Gill was already a solid contender for my favorite Street Fighter character, but doing that would absolutely clench it.
    I also find it funny that, by removing all the morally gray characters, they actually made it more morally gray. As right now there really doesn't seem to be any downside to the whole thing. It's just absolutely better for everyone that isn't Bison. I'm sure if it is the case it'll break in the end. Either the process will turn out to be unstable and they'll have to end it to save everyone. Or they'll defeat J.P. but not before he inflicts mortal damage to the Gate Of Harmony. Something like that.
    My guess is that we'll be able to train with J.P. but only after beating the story. I'd prefer if we could before, as he has a lot of moves I'd want, but it's the vibe I get. Going off this theory, my personal hope if it all turns out to be 100%. At the end we'll either side with Gill (or more likely some sort of reprasentitive of him) to preserve the harmonious world, or J.P. to break it. My guess is that it'll break either way, probably Bison going out of control, but it'll determine your allies in the end or something. And it could lead to unique dialogue when you do train with J.P. If you side with him, you'd basically be old friends. Whereas if you fought against him, he basically sees your talent and recognizes that you're not a bad person (assuming of course that J.P. is fighting to free everyone and so saw you as the threat to humanity). Total rampant speculation, but I find it really fun.

What we see is this transitional period now between G and Q where the corrupting influence of Bison is still minimal. Perhaps G can overpower Bison for now but I imagine Q is what becomes of G after Bison starts to get the upper hand.

    Cool vid, you’re all in huh. We only have bread crumbs from sf6 so far so thats all speculation. We do have half a book written in sfv and sf3 so if we step back and accept that as foundation, its a cant miss that G and Gill will be centerpieces in the sf6 story.
    Btw, Gill being blown up in sf3 is just Uriens ending, that didnt happen (in Gills ending he leads humanity to an island, also didnt happen). Gill lost to Alex and Alex let him go, thats what happened.
    So yup, 100% agree both will be back just cant tell in what format. Don’t think it’s as complicated as taking place in some ones head or alternate timelines though.

      Technically it's debatable, but most people accept that a mixture of elements from Ryu, Sean's, Alex's and Uriens story happen. Since Uriens is like the final event timeline wise, we don't have any as yet conflicting info to prove it didn't happen, but I think it's worth noting that it's debated at least. If you searched it up right now you'd find that even the multiple street fighter wikis debate the topic.

    I have a theory i made up watching this. Perhaps G isnt Q.
    In Q's ending in 3rd Strike, the detective that talks about him is hinted to secretly or possibly be Q himself, said detective also has dark skin that not only Q shares, but also JP. Perhaps JP is a continuation of that, a man that donned the mask and now he doesnt need it since he has gained control over Bison's soul.
    That is ofc if we ignore that G retroactively retconned that and HE is supposed to be Q. And that would leave the question open ofc, what happened to G.

    • @DarumaFGC
      @DarumaFGC  Год назад +2

      Well, interestingly enough, in design interviews they state that G was specifically designed to be a "ringleader" and that things got out of hand and the president of the world thing caught on. But clearly, ringleader is a term specifically used for conspiracies and controlling things behind the scenes. It could be that G is in some way Q's master, and that at least makes some sense in that Q doesn't really have any superpowers we know of, but G has Geomancy, so if G himself was Q he'd have to have lost the Geomancy somewhere. If he instead is say, replicating himself into cyborgs, mind controlling with the mask, or training secret agents (could be any of the above really) then it would make sense they share G's fighting style, but not his powers.

    • @DarumaFGC
      @DarumaFGC  Год назад +10

      Slight misunderstanding, the terrorist attack that (allegedly) took luke's father's life was like before even SFV, he joins a PMC to look into it since he doesn't believe his father's actually dead. But it may be the case that because of this he has an aversion to terrorism and is after ken. All of this is stuff that will be explored in the street fighter 6 prequel comic in may of this year. So maybe there is a timeline discrepancy and it was in fact ken thats involved in that specific terrorist attack, but that would have meant that this terrorist attack happened and they framed ken for it, Luke joined a PMC, left a pmc (sfv story for luke) then started his own gym, then sf6 starts, and ken would have been on the run for all that time. Which seems a little weird, but could be the case, we don't know yet. I've done comic reviews before, so it's not out of the question that I'll do the sf6 series when it releases!

      @@SonnyBCreative when I say during street fighter V there's basically 3 main situations that refers to - which would be the original story, a shadow falls, and "momentarily" after, that being the surfacing of G, we don't really know how long it's been but it's close enough after a shadow falls that whether it's days, weeks or months doesn't really matter. A mix of Luke's interactions with guile and a few winquotes at least mean he's already quit being in a pmc by that time, either just as G has shown up, or just after. While we don't know how long after G shows up SF6 happens, but it seems to be quite a drastic deal whatevers happened between these games. So there's at least a notable period of time between Luke quitting as a pmc, and beginning his gym. Recent design interviews also note that they want Luke's maturing to be slightly inverse, and to have him be fairly different personality-wise in sf6 than in 5. So I would at least assume half a year at minimum.

    • @DarumaFGC
      @DarumaFGC  Год назад +1

      This is an effect of a HUGE amount of events, if I was to address it as quick as I can, Rose in SFV cannot be Rose from after alpha, who has bison inside her, if you assume alpha to have happened. And also cannot be Rose from SFIV, who bison rips all of her power from. But is implied in her dialogue to be from alpha (zero) and to have been repeatedly trying events until she got to a timeline where Bison would be destroyed. Even ignoring her character story - alpha was still non-canon before SFV even released, because of an incredible sweeping amount of retcons in SFIV that make the events of alpha incoherent with the mainline games. And these would then be followed up by even more retcons in SFV. Even the events of alpha that are canon, like Nashes death, are actually massively changed and are not the event from alpha itself, since the way Nash died in SFV isn't the way he died in any of the 3 alpha games, for example. As a result you can no longer assume an event within any alpha series game to be canon until it is specifically referenced in a new street fighter game, and without that it should be assumed non canon, due to its treatment as such while Ono was leading the franchise.

This is supported by the capcom ransomware attack that show an original sf6 date for last year.

      A great deal of all 3 alpha games has been repeatedly retconned and isn't considered canon, not least of which being Nash's story, but also rose being killed by bison in alpha 3, and then him going on to inhabit her body himself, but in sfiv, he then goes on to remove her of her powers. Which she obviously still has by SFV and it's her only plot beat in that game. There's plenty of conflicting information in even the mainline games, so you can only really ever take the most recent mainline street fighter as what's considered "current canon" - and assume that anything that's not retconned is at least airy.

    • @DarumaFGC
      @DarumaFGC  Год назад +1

      It feels bad to give capcom flak for it, but a lot of SF is sorta poorly written. Not only are retcons literally constant, like a lot of SFV seems to directly contradict SFIV which is bizarre for two games in sequence both directed by the same person - but besides that even the concrete canon stuff is still purposefully doubtful, a lot of major fights the only actual canon information is "somebody won" - and while you can presume that to be ryu in a lot of cases, there are multiple times across sf2, sf3, and sfiv where ryu being the one to win a certain fight seems to conflict with other canon information. A lot of other fights, especially in sfiv and alpha are literally just endingless too, gen and akuma, and gen and Gouken are both just started and that's all we get. If you actually put the whole SF timeline together it's full of holes, but alpha in particular has by far the most holes, not only across each game, given the vast majority is clear non canon, but between the games too, Nash dies 3 seperate times and yet the events of Nash's death in SFV don't actually match any of them. Similar, but not the same, since guile survives (clearly) while Nash doesn't. As a result you kind of should only assume the directly referenced events from that time period are canon, and next to nothing else.

    • @DarumaFGC
      @DarumaFGC  Год назад +2

      It's a plot device to explain the many, many retcons from alpha, the designers have confirmed she's in a time loop and time travel isn't mentioned as though it's new to her, she's been repeating events to find a timeline where bison is defeated, which finally happened only to make things worse. But absolutely everything from alpha has been retconned to the point where you can't take info from those games at face value. Nash's story which is probably the most important part still winds up different since obviously in the mainline games, guile didn't die and Nash did, completely opposite to alpha. I can't really list every retcon here, just know that alpha is more used as reference for the mainline games, rather than hard facts, and has been cut from main continuity through a series of retcons in IV & V
      (Btw, roses story in sfiv involves bison removing her soul power and taking it for himself, which, may or may not have happened. It's unaddressed since clearly rose is still doing stuff during sfv and not just after)

    you can say "alpha got retcon'd a lot", but that doesn't mean it's literally an alternate universe that rose literally interdimensionally traveled from. literally all the retcons mean is that you ignore the things that got retcon'd, but not the ones that weren't.

    • @DarumaFGC
      @DarumaFGC  Год назад

      I never said alpha "was always" a completely different timeline, but nowadays (specifically, as of SFV, but at times in SFIV) it is more "borrowed from" than canon in itself. Not only is the vast majority of alpha non canon, but even what is considered canon is so heavily retconned it doesn't match what happened in alpha anymore. Instead of listing out all the canonical inconsistencies and retcons, and just focusing on rose, her story is now intentionally incongruent with multiple things, such as bison robbing her of her soul power in sfiv, but it is now part of her story that she is a time traveler. Replaying events multiple times to get to an iteration of them where bison is destroyed, and in fact the designers have even specifically mentioned her as being in a time loop, at the very least implying that the offscreen changes to alpha were to some degree her fault, and led to the events of street fighter V. Whether you want to call that an alternate timeline, or a parallel dimension or whatever, the effect ends up the same.

      Maybe G is fused directly with Gill, and in effect Gill is the Prison and JP, a representation of G, is the Warden. Or maybe G's relationship to JP and Marisa is seperate from Gill entirely, so he never fused with Gill, and Gill enclosing everyone in this fake universe is seperate.
      It's a bit of a useless thing to speculate on because there's too many possibilities and it being any specific one doesn't effect the end result, which is:
      Gill has embodied some kind of false world that has entrapped only "good" members of the street fighter cast
      G has an unexplained, direct connection to JP and Marisa
      Bisons soul is a manifestation of JPs, somehow.

      There like very clearly will be a follow up story at some point, theres already a post game tournament with the rashid update and at EVO the team confirmed maintained frequent world tour updates with essentially every character. So id consider the whole nayshall tournament arc an introduction to your player characters part in the story, and say the rest remains to be seen, because none of these plot threads i mentioned in the video were addressed at all, marisas geomancy, G's disappearance, etc

    Why everyone thinks that JP talks about M.Bison in context of 'vessel"? It's obvious it was about our custom character in World Tour mode.

      Even if the vessel is you, who was "he"?

    TBH... No one ever played SF for the riveting story plots,, am I right? I believe I heard they were trying to move the series forward, as not to fall into the trap of taking years to progress to SF3 and 4 and so on.

      I do think Ryus story is uniquely compelling among fighting games to like, Uber-casuals. I think most people at least have an idea he's not in it for glory, but to just face and surpass strong opponents. Whereas if you ask most people what's going on with Jin from Tekken, you're just gonna be met with confusion most of the time. So, id at least say plot is a *little* more of a draw to street fighter than other fighting games to the majority. But yeah, it's hardly done great at being the centrepiece of any game, so hopefully sf6 hits it out of the park

    Something that I have noticed in the character artwork is each character has some red or blue. Exceptions would be Ryu (grey, black, white. But the red is because of Ken's headband), Dhalsim in gold, and Juri is a mix with purple (chaos?)

      True, and those colours are particularly striking on the characters who have never worn either, like guile and E honda. Well spotted

    Okay, took a while but when you brought up the billboards and the red and blue motifs present in the game, got to admit I'm pretty much sold on this theory. At the very least see this be very plausible

    this makes me wonder how Q fits into this, why are G's moves soo similar to Q?

    • @DarumaFGC
      @DarumaFGC  Год назад +1

      There's a lot of fun theories for this. There's a suggestion in one sf3 ending that there's hundreds or thousands of Q's and not just one. A lot of people seem to think the Q mask is some kind of mind control device and that's what's going on with the boxes the mad gear gang wear on their heads.
      A fun thing I only learned deep diving dev interviews is that originally, G was designed as a Ringleader. Like a ringleader for a circus, which we can clearly see in his alt costume. Ringleaders a very specific word though that's often bundled in with ideas of conspiracy. So it's entirely possible he's behind some mysterious group we don't know about now SIN and Shadaloo are gone.

    Question:
    You Think Urien Will Be In Play Sometime In This Plot?

    • @DarumaFGC
      @DarumaFGC  Год назад

      Absolutely, but he'd be like an in-post thing. I have a pretty staunch suspicion that the SF6 main plot will just be winning a world warrior tournament as your create-a-character, only to be told the truth about everything by JP when you win. And then afterwards, in an "a shadow falls" type second story after release, presumably involving dlc characters, we'd do something to get out of the pocket dimension into the real world.
      If it's true that this takes place after SF3 in the timeline, but in an alternate timeline where Gill survived, Urien would absolutely want to stop him, and might even be on the good-guy side in whatever winds up happening.

      @@DarumaFGC I hope he plays some sort of anti-hero role in that case; he's too ambitious and active to just let sit offscreen while the person he hates most gets another one over him.
      Of course, I don't think he'll get exactly what he wants or become the new main antag; but I do hope he pulls some sort of W over Gill that goes beyond "I Killed Him In His Sleep lol"
      He has too much stage presence, it'd be a major disappointment without him somewhere on the field.
